My only complaint, and I’m sure someone has posted this already, is that I wish Anet would decide for the skills to have either CDs or energy bar but not both.
This, if the Revenant might have a system that resembles the thief it’s going to be a huge improvement. Other issues that need te be enhanced or revisited:
- Conditions on you: When you play with a group it’s kinda frustrating that you get conditions on you to improve your damage and then a condi cleanse comes. I see Revenant as a gambler (big risk for a big reward) so what about a trait or skill that makes the conditions applied to you can’t be removed?
- DPS: Everybody said it already but I equipped mine with Mace/Axe, Scholar Runes, full zerker and sill was pretty lackluster. Guess Sword/Pistol and the Shiro legendary stance will boost it.
- Too many leaps: I know they’re hard to program and the animations are cool but if you’re gonna keep them reduce cast times. They’re pretty slow.
- Rite of the Great Dwarf: Reduce cast time. Adding retaliation would be a nice touch and will make it more useful.
- Vengeful Hammers: I loved it and was one of my decent damage sources as I tested Revenant in dungeons, was cool having the Reflexive Summon trait. What if Releasing the hammer would give you some boon or damage on release?
- Taunt: Needs to be longer. Even when traited it’s not pretty useful.
- Echoing Eruption: Reduce cast time. It’s a great skill.
- Temporal Rift: Make it pull the enemies to you.
As I said before, it has potential but needs work. I know that devs might not want to make an OP class for an expansion as it is what it usually happens on game expansions but it needs MOAR COWBELL!
(edited by NumenorLord.6539)
Has Potential
But needs work. Some good synergies like drawing conditions to you and more damage for each condition you have is good. Hammer needs more damage, moar cowbell. Mace/Axe has been fun but no place in a meta dungeon party atm.
Am I the only one that feels that Guardian seriously sucks now at PvP? Good effort anyway but gotta tell you, I made a simple Hambow build (no metabattle or forum build) on my Warrior and it’s way smoother to play, more damage, more sustain and doesn’t melt when slightly focused.
There are a set of dungeons that can be done pretty quickly and are beginner-friendly:
- Ascalonian Catacombs – AC (Located in Pasmatis Corridor, Plains of Ashford): All the paths are easy, especially 3.
- Citadel of Flame – COF (Located in the Baelfire, Fireheart Rise): Path 1 is one of the shortest dungeons in all the game. Path 2 might take some work in a couple of parts but it’s also a fast run.
- Sorrow’s Embrace – SE (Located in Tribulation Rift, Dredgehaunt Cliffs): Path 1 is pretty easy and fast. You might have problems on the Golems if your party doesn’t bring reflects. Path 3 is not harder but it’s longer. Both paths require some skips so if you can’t go in with someone that already knows them, try watching some youtube videos.
- Honor of the Waves – HotW (Located in Watchful Fjord at Frostgorge Sound): Path 1 is pretty easy and fast but it’s not a very popular dungeon. Might have problems with some traps that are located in a hallway before the 2 final fights. Bring DPS, bosses have a huge healthpool.
Some people might say Twilight Arbor but I don’t like that place. Give it a try (Up path).
Final advice: Start dungeons once you are level 80 unless you are going with some friends or guildmates (or you are really close to hit 80). If you are using the looking for group tool (LFG) that open with the “Y” key avoid joining parties that state “full zerker” “speed run” “only exp” and try joining parties that say “All welcome” or “frist timers”.
1 from the forge (Dawn), 2 from TP (Zap and Rodgort’s Flame)
That was the punishment Pocahontas received when she left John Smith and decided go adventuring in Tyria: As a last act of despair and with a broken heart he glued her hair to her back so she will never Forget about him.

Hi! Welcome to GW2 first of all.
About your post: Yes, most of speed runs and meta users avoid Necros and Rangers. That’s because there are very few players that play this classes “correctly” and even when doing so, they are outshined by the other classes because of utilities, boons and active defenses. Now, have in mind that you have 5 character slots on your account and you can try several classes and leveling is pretty easy compared to other games.
What class to chose? I’ve been playing heavy classes (Guardian and Warrior) since release, they’re great, reliable and always wanted in PvE. Also, they do pretty good in PvP and WvW. But I started playing Mesmer not long ago and must say i’m in love with that class. First of all, it’s the only class that’s exclusive from this game, you might find every other profession (or their archetypes) in most MMOs and RPGs. It’s a class that will show its true potential at lvl 80 and mgith have some mechanics that seem hard to master but it is really fun and rewarding. Right now they’re really good in PVE, PVP and WVW. They do have one problem and it’s mobility but you can take care of that equipping a Signet (Inspiration) or armor runes that give perma speed (Traveler)
TL;DR: IMHO for your first character Guardian or Warrior (Easy Mode) or Mesmer (not that easy, bit hard to level but unique in my MMO experience).
Which goes better as a guardian
PVE: Retreat!
You have the chance to get 20% Damage bonus of Unscathed Contender if you are hit, the CD is lower than SY and Swiftness never hurt anyone.
PVP:
Meditation: None.
Bunker: Save Yourselves but watch out for nasty Corrupt Boon from Necros and Warriors that might have triated increased dmg for each boon on you.
WvW: I don’t play much, guess Retreat! will do the trick if you’re roaming and not using Traveler Runes. SY on a zerg vs zerg fight is an instant suicide.
I’m glad it’s finally working. It should give 20% as it’s nor permanent unless you mix it with another trait (Writ of Persistence) and use certain weapons (Hammer, Mace and Greatsword).
Zeal has always been a traitline with unappealing GM traits (even before the specializations) and should be reworked because, in this moment, it pigeonholes our choice.
I hope it takes awhile. I don’t like the feeling of being in the mid of a pixel victoria’s secret fashion show.
Due to its current unintended behavior, the Symbolic Avenger trait has been temporarily disabled until the next scheduled release. If you were using this trait, we suggest you select a different one until the trait is re-enabled.
Thank you for the heads up Gaile. May I suggtest that while the team is fixing Symbolic Avenger to consider boosting Shattered Aegis damage so it becomes a viable option too? Giving Sword a % dmg or a speed buff modifier when traited would be appreciated too because the current Right Hand Strength (20% reduced recharge on Sword skills) is not useful compared to the old trait.
You know the new Right-Hand Strength still has the +15% crit chance for MH weapons the old RHS had, on top of the 20% cooldown reduction on sword skills?
you know that mace is way better now right?
You have a symbol on the skill number 2, that symbol can provide vulnerability, +20% damage (when they activate SA again) and the symbol will have +15% crit chance too.
And the skill number 3 is amazing in some fights, that block can save you and save your party members sometimes.
Sword right now is trash (if you do dungeons and fractal, PvE exploration whatever, it is ok), the auto was the responsible for the damage and now they removed powerful blades. The second skill it is situational and using blind doesn’t put vulnerability anymore. And sword doesn’t have a symbol, so you lose those +20% dmg.
Yes, Mace is now Meta in PvE (will be once they fix symnbolic avenger) but I would really like to see some attention for the Guardians who use Sword in the Zeal traitline. Shattered Aegis could be merged with Communal Defenses (keep the same damage and be a GM trait or lower the damage and be moved to the Master trait in Valor) and we could get something like the Warrior’s Dual Wielding when using Sword.

Im planning on running full soldier’s gear (from temples) with a full set of dolyak runes
If you use gear bought from temples and put runes on it you won’t be able to salvage it and recover the runes in a future, Dolyak are not expensive but still you won’t be able to recover those 2 golds (I think???)
If you’re positive about using Soldier stats buy it from dungeons or craft it. This link might be useful
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Equipment_acquisition_by_stats
Tip: Try Knight gear, lot of toughness (Tanky) and way better damage output than Soldier wich is reserved for WvW zerging.
Hi! Well those are my 2 favourite classes so I can tell you that there is a very nice way to help your wife and it’s by using a Pahlanx Strength/Empower Allies build (PS/EA), it will help both of you kill things faster and go through PvE content (open world and dungeons) pretty smoothly.
Main Idea of the build is to share the Might boon you gain with your allies and improve their power so you can kill mobs faster. In dorder to activate Forceful Greatsword’s Might you need to land a critical hit so Berserker armor is optimal with Strength Runes. Weapons are Greatsword and Axe/Mace (Warhorn for exploring) both with Force and Battle Sigils. Skills would be Healing Signet, Banner of Discipline, Banner of Strength and For Great Justice! Battle Standard will be your Elite.
Here’s the build: http://dulfy.net/gw2traits#build=AggBrAT8Bbg~
You can always change Brawler’s Recovery for Inspiring Battle Standard if she’s going down a lot.
Feel free to contact me in game if you have any questions.
I’m talking about the statistics and data visualization we got after the first year. It was a really nice way to show us how Tyria is composed and compare it to some countries and world data.
Anet has shown 2 thing with this:
- They are an avant-garde team, never seen this before in an MMO and inclusion is a must in today’s society.
- They’re great at marketing! This is done because they know it will get a lot of people (not only players) to talk about GW2.
A Big hello to the LGBTIQ community in GW2, you are a great part of this game and I’m happy to share Tyria with you!
Just to make things clear, I’m not the OP of this thread (he deleted and was complaining about being countered by every class in PvP). Carrion sounds fun, think more testing has to be done because what we are gonna play will depend on the other classes builds. One thing is for sure, hybrid or condi damage, burn will play an important role in our builds.
It should get you to this page https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/external?l=http%3A%2F%2Fdulfy.net%2Fgw2traits%23build%3DAgICpAPoBWw that warns you that you are going to a site outside forums. Maybe copy and paste the link? Security settings on your browser prehaps?
Here’s the build anyway if you can’t access:
Radiance: Right Hand Strength->Radiant Fire->Amplified Wrath
Valor: Focus Mastery->Strength in Numbers->Monk’s Focus
Virtues: Unscatched Contender-> Absolute Resolution->Indomitable Courage
Skills: Shelter, Judge’s Intervention, Contemplation of Purity, Smite Condition and Renewed Focus.
(edited by NumenorLord.6539)
Engis? Are you for real? They have always been easy when you stack conditions on them now with brun they get to the ground pretty easy, range them and don’t get near turrets, use teleports wisely.
Rangers are a piece of cake, Shelter when they rapid fire, teleport to them and they die instantly, run for cover when they’re shooting from above.
Necro got buffed and most of them are playing tanky builds now, so they’re not the easy free kill they used to be. Good for them they’re a class that needed that kind of buff. Still pretty killable if you time your condi cleansings and burst.
Ele (good ones) is a class I’ve always had problems on 1v1 as a Guardian, still have long fights with them and they flee/reset when they’re losing.
Mesmer is a matter of timing Shelter, dodges and Renewed Focus if you are using it. Target the Mesmer! He is the one dodging!
I’m on tier 6, Guardian is my prefered class but I don’t consider myself a hardcore PvP player. Only played for 4 hours yesterday, still testing builds but been playing with this http://dulfy.net/gw2traits#build=AgICpAPoBWw~
Sword/Torch Scepter/Focus Zerker Amulet and Flame Legion Runes (I know there’s still some improvement I can do with this build but I’m still testing like everyone).
OP Maybe test some builds? What are you using now?
I wasn’t convinced by the new trait system until it came live and all started making more sense. Some builds will have to dissappear, some adjusments will have to be made but I join the OP in saying thank you and not only to the devs but also to the art team that pulled a great work with L.A. imho.
possibly the best trait we have now
Indeed it is, I have to say I am surprised in a good way, crits are a good damage boost in dungeons when a PS warrior gets you to 25 Might stacks. My choice for Zeal GM.
Theorycrafting is dark and full of errors… But the NERF burns them all away. Give us your light lord of NERF!
Yesterday I said goodbye to my Guardian. Went PvP and killed some Rangers… Did a full CoE and CM run… You will be missed old friend
Only procs on crit will be empowering might and it’s not that good. Warriors and even Eles are WAY better at building and sustaining might.
Reason: Damage.
Suggestion: Don’t look for new build, look for a new class.
All I’am going to say about this is:
- I’m Happy I already have the Champion Paragon title because it’s gonna be impossible to gain after this patch.
- I’m happy to have a PS/EA Warrior for PvE because as someone else said before, Guardian is becoming the new peasant in dungeons.
- Time to think for a new class in PvP already have Elementalist and Engineer that seem to always get buffs so i think that will be the answer.
- Nerf Guardian and you have a huge amount of persons who will start looking for a new heavy class to play… Oh! Revenant is coming out in expansion, what a coincidence! Guess orphan guardians will have to buy HoT. (Ok maybe too much conspiracy theory but… Who knows?)
Personally I’d love some type of personal quickness buff that proc’s on critical hits.
Something like
“Zealous Speed” Gain quickness when you critically hit. 4 second duration, 15-20 second CD.
That would be good with pretty much any weapon and be really nice in PvP.
As for shattered AEGIS, they could just move it to a minor and merge the other 2 minors.
Hey Ragnar, long time no see. Agreed with you, anything besides the 2 options we’re getting besides symbolic avenger. Quickness would be really nice indeed. Could also be a damage boost what about 7% extra damage while you haven’t activated any of your 3 virtues? Spirits Weapons and damage on Aegis are very lackluster.
Shattered aegis breaks stealth if you step into an AoE or get hit so …
Wow didn’t know that… Well it makes it suck even more. I seriously think we should ask for a different Grandmaster Trait, we are being forced to go with symbolic avenger. Zeal used to have Kindled Zeal (now Master) and Amplified Wrath (now on Radiance).
We should ask for Kindled Zeal being Grandmaster (buffed from 10% to 15%) and Shattered Aegis moved to Master (doesn’t matter what they do with dmg)
I know there’s a lot of people against symbols, they’re only good in some situations in PvE (FotM Hammer) and they suck in PvP are we supossed to be like “hey, please stand there there so I can get a 20% damage buff”. This HAS to be changed, Guardian with symbols and traps is becoming even more a static profession.
There are a lot of players, including me, that don’t want to run with Hammer or Mace because:
- Light fields constantly messing up Elementalist’s en Enginerr’s fire fields for Might Stacking.
- Slow attacks.
- Both rely almost exclusively on auto-attack for optimal dps.
- They’re weapons related to support.
Because of the “great” idea to make us go only with 3 trait lines I see Zeal has 3 skills to offer in Grandmaster:
- Expeditious Spirit (no thank you)
- Symbolic Avenger (don’t want to play Hammer and/or Mace)
- Shattered Aegis (only viable option for me)
Now, Shattered Aegis was an Adepts trait and now is Gransmaster. It’s never been too useful so all I wanna say is: It better do A HUGE DAMAGE!
Edit: Typos
(edited by NumenorLord.6539)
I see 2 new possible builds now for maxing damage:
1. Will still use Zerker Scholar Runes and rely on symbols so it will use Hammer and/or Mace combined most likely with GS and Focus as offhand.
2. Will use Zerker but with Flame Legion as Savacli said or condition runes (maybe Balthazar) and will use GS and probably Mace with Torch as offhand.
My guess is burning will add to your damage but Zerker will still outshine it, so going full Rampager or Sinester won’t be a thing. Maybe a mix of Rampager, Zerker and Sinister will work but it’s all theorycrafting.
I use swordxtorch/GS myself. Your not the only one getting the hilt with this upcoming patch.
Glad to know I’m not the only one. Sad to see Sword is now useless and the effort of the one that made a Legendary or some other Swords that require a lot of effort (Infinite Light for example) is going down the drain.
I play Condi guardian right now which is quite strong. It’s getting huge buffs with the new traits. It uses GS and can use sword (although I prefer scepter) I’d try that.
Going to write a guide for it with the new specializations.
I tried condi for some time in PvP, was not really my thing. Don’t know if the condi buff will be enough to make it viable in PvE, if so I will be happy to read your guide ^^ and contribute if I can.
I feel you OP. They want us to play hybrid Crapdians instead of Guardians. I won’t be part of that.
But I don’t like butterflies. Besides that Mesmer with a GS in PvE is a no no. Guardian is my main but have been playing Warrior a lot lately (might stay warrior now). It’s sad not only because my legendaries but because besides boosting othger classes they’re nerfing us hard and giving little/no choice.
I worked my derrière off making my legenday Greatsowrd and legendary Sword. It was no small task, as most of you know it’s the ultimate crafting item and a test to your patience if you don’t want to invest real money in the process. I got one precursor from MF bought the other one.
I play the current Meta build for PvE that’s why I decided to craft those legendaries.
Now it seems that DPS guardian is forced to include symbols as part of his build and it seems to me that this new type of traitlines doesn’t add any diversity and makes it rather stiff with no variation when it comes to PvE. Right now, if we want optimal DPS, we can chose between the GS/SF build and the Hammer FotM build. Also, we can chose between sword and mace for 1h weapon as they have similar DPS in auto-attack.
Being forced to chose only 3 traitlines is restrictive and becomes even more restrictive when most of the traits that are DPS related are getting nerfed and, once more I say this, we are forced to play with symbols if we want optimal DPS. I want to play with my lengendary GS and legendary Sword, I worked hard for them.
I’ve never asked for anything on this forum (I think it’s useless to do it) but I really think that the game devs need to sit down and analyze what’s the direction where they’re heading the guardian. Between this and the Dragon Hunter I might start looking for a new game to play.
TL;DR: I don’t want to play with symbols because I have Twillight and Bolt. New Guardian build (optimal DPS for PvE) is restrictive and dreadful, DH also sucks for what we have seen. Guardian going all the way the downward spiral!
(edited by NumenorLord.6539)
There you go. Won’t happen, no matter how many posts you make about it. In the light of new events we might get Focus nerfed if you keep asking for Shield boosts.
Don’t chose weapons for their looks. Chose them for their utility. I know some might look lame but you can change them once you get to 80 with a transmutation charge. Here are some focus and scepter skins
http://dulfy.net/2013/02/06/gw2-focus-skins-gallery/
http://dulfy.net/2012/12/28/gw2-scepter-skin-gallery/
Now, if you’re into dungeons know that you’re gonna be asked to melee most of mobs/bosses with both Guardian and Warrior (some exceptions are Imbued Shaman, Lupi -with Guard-, and Bloomhunger). Once again, my advice is to test each class and see what you like but LB is a subpar weapon for PvE with low damage.
Robert Baratheon (Battle of the Trident): Norn Warrior Using Tier 3 armor with Stag Helm and Hammer (yay!).
Prince Oberyn: Trap Ranger.
Lady Brienne: Meditation Guardian Sword Focus/GS.
The Mountain and the Hound: GS Warriors
Lady Melisandre: Necromancer Minion Master (or Ele? Dual-class?)
Ned Stark: A Quaggan with beard! OoooooooOooooo must be honorable and loyal OoooooooOooooo!
OP:
I hope you keep getting trashed by Medi Guardians ^^

In GW2 if you’re going to chose a class for the weapon’s looks you might have a bad time. Let me give you a quick comparison of the weapons you say you like aesthetically:
Hammer: Guardian It’s part of the Meta for Guadian when playing Fractals (end-game PvE content) and PvP, some builds use it for WvW. Warrior it sucks at PvE and some builds use it for PvP (Hambow).
Sword: Guardian Meta uses it for guardian cause of it’s auto attack. Rarely used in PvP because scepter is often prefered because of it’s immobilize and range. Warrior Great for covering long distances when used with Warhorn and Greatsword. Used as offhand in some solo builds or fights where it’s not important to take down defiance stacks. Used in the PvP Shoutbow Meta.
Shield: Guardian The worst choice you have in PvE because of Focus utilities and Torch’s #4 DPS. Used in some PvP builds (very rare because Focus is again more useful). Might be useful in some WvW situations (skill #5). Warrior Not very useful in PvE but Warrio’s Shield skills are way more useful than Guardians. PvP used in some bunking builds for it’s blocks and I think it has a place among some roaming WvW builds.
GreatSword: Guardian PvE Must have. PvP some Meditation builds use it but I prefer Hammer because of it’s soft CC. WvW used by a lot of builds. Warrior PvE A must have in most builds. PvP is rarely used and WvW it’s a weapon used for mobility (roaming builds).
Information taken from http://metabattle.com/wiki/MetaBattle_Wiki
Now, if you’re new to the game test the weapons and play both classes to see what you like the better (you have 5 character slots!). GW2 is pretty different form most MMO’s and you might see that currently Warrior has more a support role than Guard (Phalanx Strength Build) even when Guardian is the class with most active defenses (blocks, blinds and reflects). Staff is only a good choice when it comes to WvW or PvP bunker builds. You might end up using Meta builds but make yourself your own opinion!
Enjoy the game, discover what you like and don’t rush. I wish I could have that feeling of exploring and discovering skills, weapons and classes alll over again.
Dud do u even engrish?
On topic, try this 2 for supportive role. Someone made a post not long ago about a Celestial Bunker, might look into that too.

http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Guardian_-_Virtue_Bunker
I think there’s a really small chance (around 0.001%) it was because of what you posted as these changes have to be tested and undergo a much more complex process than satisfying requests posted on forums. This was a thing being asked a long time ago by the Thief community. I don’t think that it will make the class stronger against Guardians because seasoned players know that you must block/Invul while the initial burst and then immbilize for an easy kill.
Still, PvP is a matter of skill and context (other players, recent fights, location, sigils procs etc.). I’m happy for you and hope you can take advantage of this.
Thanks for the tips, have gone with a Sword/Focus + GS combo with Speed sigils for the swiftness, I find it keeps me engaged as I run around the maps, picking off odd mobs along the way to maintain swiftness. Currently using mischief for the other sigil, which gives extra blind, but might swap these out for something else.
Also went with the snowfall runes for fall damage reduction, so much fun being able to jump almost anywhere
Still working on traits + skills,.
Give Traveler a shot if you have some spare gold.
For traits you can go 2/5/0/2/5 with Protector’s Impact in Zeal for falling damage (no need for runes). In Radiance go Blind Exposure for stacking might and vulnerability and killing fast trash that is what you’ll find the most in open world, Powerful Blades for Sword and Spear damage (underwater areas). In Honor pick Superior Aria for Retreat! Every 32 seconds (have in mind it will last longer with Traveler runes-boon duration bonus). Finally for Virtues go with Master of Consecrations (use PF for condi cleanse) and Indomitable Courage for stability when you get knockbacks (No need for Absolute Resolution in open world). For the remaining Skill go Bane Signet or Judge’s Interventio for another teleport.
For food Omnomberry Cream for Magic find and boon duration, Sharpening Stone for Damage. Good thing with this setup is that it can be used for WvW areas (change traits for Meditation Guardian Roaming Build).
(edited by NumenorLord.6539)
Berserker (faster heart completion) with Traveler Runes (perma speed boost) is what I used. GS (Leap of Faith and dps) and Sword/Focus for teleport (Flashing Blade). That armor can be used later for WvW roaming. If you don’t want to invest in those runes you can run with a Staff and swap to sword when completing events and hearts
That is a nice budget, look for the GTX 970 , you can’t go wrong with it.
Thank you, it’s a bit over my budget but seems like a really good choice
Thank you sir, I’ve been thinking about getting the GTX 960,those are some useful reviews. Thanks again!
Hello community. My 2 year old video card crashed and I’m thinking of buying a new one. I have a budget of around 300 USD and wanted to hear some suggestions from you. I had my fill with ATI and wanted to give Nvidia a try. I play the game on max visual settings so let me know what you think. I’m at work right now so can’t post my PC settings. Advice is welcome
Noticed the same with Harpy Feathers and Order of Whispers Spy Kit yesterday on CoE trying to pass through the undead after blowing the door in P2 while playing on my Guard. So the bug (or nerf) is not to thief but to stealth.
This should be fun in pvp with Scepter/Focus-Longbow Berserker amulet
http://dulfy.net/gw2traits#build=AgIBnALUBrg~
Sigils Fire and Air on both S/F and LB.
Utilities I’ll go something like WoR, Test of Faith and some condition cleansing.
;_;
That was all of i can do. TYVM . Love is real after 3 years.PS: Robert \o/ You are my favorite desinger just now.
I’m glad for you. I main a Guardian and the first alt I created was my Necro, after getting the Champion Phantom Achievement she became my “bank character”. Reaper looks like a really competitive spec for PVE (Finally!)
Nothing, because specs of other classes are not at all playing similar roles to secondary professions.
Agreed they’re not, but anyway there are skills that seems inspired by, like the pull from the Reaper on the video looks pretty much like Binding Blade (at least works like), I was refering to that not to playing other profession roles (even when DH apparently resembles a lot to a Ranger).
