With natural healing, you could say the fern hound is almost like having a second “we heal as one”.
Moas should heal for even more, but split up between their own heal and the one on demand on F2. Natural healing doesn’t scale as well with moa as the fern hound though, their Harmonic cry only goes from 3,250 to 3,340.
I’d say the circle is according to the pets F2. Pets with an aoe on their F2 have a radius of the circle that represents the range of their F2?
(edited by OGDeadHead.8326)
How do you guys feel about the range of the skill?
It scale according to the pet hitbox. The bigger the pet the bigger the aoe. It does scale with enlargement.
I was wondering about that. I was dueling a ranger last night and his Drake Hound had a huge radius around him when firing off BW. It looked like 400-500 radius.
Can this really be the case, or is it just a graphical glitch? Seems rather strange I think.
Yeah for pvp, it’s hard not to pick Beastly Warden. Still, that aoe chill on such a short cd is pretty kitten sweet for axe builds.
So, most thought this trait would be pretty bad pre-patch. Personally, I love it. It seems Winter’s bite with this trait is able to interrupt, can anyone confirm?
What wasn’t mentioned in the patch notes is that this trait reduces cd of axe skills as well, and yes, that includes offhand axe.
Good stuff imho.
Edit: Make that 6, 824 if you equip Natural Healing.
Invigorating Bond was buffed from a 1,482 heal to a 2,580 heal. Total heal done by a Fern Hound post patch (including regen) = 5,530 health, or ~276 health/sec. AOE – up to 5 targets.
Thoughts?
How do you guys feel about the range of the skill?
Pet stats
According to patch notes – “All ranger pets now gain an additional 150 power, vitality, toughness, and precision at level 80.”
They don’t. Checking stats of pets in game post patch, with status of pets on the wiki (pre patch stats), they haven’t recieved an increase to their stats at all.
bump
I’ll keep bumping this thread so that you guys know where to go and post about bugs. Please try and confirm any findings with other players first before posting. Also, don’t doublepost on an issue that’s already been reported, unless you can bring more info on the topic.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Ranger-bugs-9
I kinda like that 25 players are hit with every boon though…
Yeah, happens for me as well on my R9 280x toxic. Especially the first screenshot. This is something that’s been reported many times before. Hard to tell if it’s a game issue, or something with the graphics card/driver to be honest.
Don’t think Anet will look into it.
Natural healing before patch:
Functionality according to wiki (how it used to work):
Your pets have natural health regeneration.
Health per second: 125
Also affects the ranger, healing for 133 every 3 seconds.
Only active during combat.
Compassion training will increase the heal to 177 every 3 seconds on the ranger.
Bug before patch: Description
Natural healing post patch:
Only heals the pet
Heals for a tiny amount (might be that it now only heals for 125 health every third second?)
Current status: Bugged (most likely) – revert it to how it used to work, fix description.
Dev’s in “our” thread now in the bug section (link above). Keep’em coming guys.
Hey all, I’m looking into these!
Good, thank you!
Be sure to get back to this thread, we’ll fill it up with more!
Reported this in the bugs section, please feel free to bump that thread.

I just love placing a bunch of HS all over the place
According to patch notes:
“All ranger pets now gain an additional 150 power, vitality, toughness, and precision at level 80.”
This didn’t seem to make it into the patch, since by comparing stats with pets in the game to pets on the wiki, the stats are identical. Please verify.
You’re correct. At least according to the wiki. The stats are exactly the same, so pets overall are missing out on 150 base stats compared to before patch when going Beastmastery. Another bug that must be brought to attention, sigh…
Lol! If at least one of the boons would have been fury, it would have nice synergy with Remorseless. Now? Trash. Back to the drawing board.
Edit: It’s decent in combination with Fortifying bond though…
Lol I bet this is that sort of trait that got nerfed because they didn’t really have a clue how it used to work, not even after three years. It wasn’t an op trait at all – Anet, fix it please.
If Empathic Bond were to be given the ability to transfer up to 3 conditions from the pet onto a single-target with [F2] commands, it would add some active play to the trait and provide a way to relieve some conditions from the pet, along with the reward of using those conditions offensively.
I like this idea.
I’ve had my fair share of situations with the Wolfs F2 not working, that I can confirm sometimes it’s simply borked.
I wouldn’t say only in critical moments when you really need it to go off NOW, but it’s those moments we tend to remember. I’ve had my wolf within melee range of both me and my opponent, and pressing that F2 simply does nothing. Press it again, still nothing, press it a third time, still nothing. You don’t have time for a fourth time.
Even tricks like F3→F2 won’t work.
I can’t recall that the exact situation you describe , Wusel, ever have happend to me, but like I said, we’ve had our moments for sure.
The wolf is an awesome pet in pvp. At the same time, you won’t get so frustrated with any other pet when it simply doesn’t do its thing – that’s in the nature of the beast.
<snip>
I’ve got 24 gigs of ram – feel free to make good use of it!
Don’t camp – move your kitten .
Pets cap out at 300 condition damage right now, and that’s WITH traits.
Show your pets some love – give them some might stacks for a nice 1100 condition damage max.
Nothing changed but the channel time. DPS is identical.
That would depend on how you think about it. If you think about DPS from the moment you press Rapid Fire to the moment the skill is available for use again then yes, DPS is the same (Edit: that might not be true either – do the cd of the skill start when the channel is complete, or from the moment you press the skill?)
If you on the other hand count the actual channel of the skill, DPS doubled when they changed it. Since the channel time were cut in half, that also opened up for us to use other attacks (and/or utilities) much sooner, so I personally tend to think of the actual channel of the skill when I talk about dps, in which case it was doubled.
If we talk about total damage done from the rapid fire channel, then yes, it’s identical to how it was before. That’s not dps though.

Please go ahead and report these things in the bugs section.
The only weapons that can attack a target behind you, afaik, are Warhorn (hunter’s call), Great Sword (crippling throw) and Shortbow (quick shot). I sure wouldn’t mind a few more options.
Yeah, that’s something I want as well.
I would like to have an option where my pet is stowed automatically when out of combat. Reason for this is NOT because I won’t to get rid of pets or anything, but rather for easy triggering of traits such as Might Swap, Vigorous Training and Zephyr’s Speed upon pet activation (since activation counts as a swap).
There are of course some drawbacks with a function like this. For example, long lasting boons on the pet will be lost, as will Master’s Bond stacks (unless they rework these things), hence why I would like this as a toggable option.
Thoughts?
I’m not sure EB needs to move anywhere. But I would like to see some sort of condi cleanse in other lines, for example when swapping pet.
The false law of man, aka Survival of the Fittest, I don’t really like – at all. Yes, you get condi cleanse on demand, but the logic behind this trait is… disturbing. Where’s the logic connection between using a survival skill (other than the fact they’re called ‘survival skills’) and cleansing a condition?
I see SotF as a band-aid solution. Illogical and poorly thought through, they just gave us something.
Seriously Anet, you can do so much better than this. GW2 traits and skills in general have so little of what once made your predecessor, the original Guild Wars, such a great game.
Is it only point blank shot you have a problem dodging, out of all abilities over all classes? Or is this just another ‘nerf ranger’ thread?
If you plan on doing dungeons, sPvP or WvW later on, I would, like TP, suggest you get a sword and learn it, paired with anything OH.
This.
I wish I would’ve used the sword from the beginning instead of dual bow, since it’s the hardest weapon to master (I still struggle with it).
You’ll most likely die a lot more by going melee and using sword as your primary weapon, but you’ll be greatful for it further down the road.
+1 Heimskarl
Fyi Justin’s doesn’t say anything reasonable he is a troll.
Funny. I’ve come to the same conclusion.
The lack of the animation is why I don’t use the moa, the one pet whose 2nd ability we can’t easily control. It’s unfortunate because it is one of the stronger skills.
Pretty much. But we are rangers, we can’t have nice things, and having the moa actually show, clearly, when it’s using harmonic cry would ofc be waaay op…
</sarcasm>
Wow! I’m heading there right now!
Overland PvE, go for power imho. Conditions are too slow.
In short, go zerker.
Nice vids, and you really make use of that water field through blasts and leaps – good stuff.
OP? Possibly, but fun!
I guess that would depend on how much you would be able to ‘bend’ swoop. Being able to jump around a corner would be nice though, lol! More quake 1 special moves to the ppl!
;)
Same total distance was what I was thinking.
Topic. I would find it nice to be able to slightly ‘slide’ to either left or right when using swoop, in a curve-like pattern.
Thoughts?
Lastly, before the spring goes out, leap through it with greatsword for extra healing.
Nah I prefer not leaping healing spring. Its just not my style as it feels too cheese.
Lol wut?
Remove the freakin scoreboard already.
Buff movement speed, attack rate and projectile speed of pets, and I would be happy with that, to start with.
EB is not worthy of GM status as it stands right now.
Why is it not worthy of GM status? Almost every viable ranger build was running EB before SoTF was introduced. Rangers used to complain that they’re locked into the Survival trait line for condi clears.
I see it more as an alternative to SoTF for those that don’t want to run Survival skills.
Yes it’s an alternative to SotF. Still not GM worthy as it is now. It used to be, when it cleared all our conditions without giving them to the pet. That was op though. But now, we still suffer from the conditions when we’re supposedly free from them, and that’s one of the reasons this trait is not worth a GM spot.
Just look around at other professions and compare.
- Search and rescue: This was decent if you knew you had a group of clowns that would go down often. It was also decent in pvp. However, they nerfed it to the ground and six feet under.
Should probably be reworked completly, as in a totally new function.
- Protect me: Decent sort of “invulnerability” skill that breaks stun. Still, I rather take SoS if this is the kind of skill I’m after.
Should probably be reworked completly, as in a totally new function.
- Guard: The skill itself is trash. May find some niche use i wvw since ppl think it’s good, even though there are better options out there even for the folks that actually think the skill itself is good. It’s never seen in pvp because it’s crap, and i pve you don’t need it. I think that the ppl using it uses it for the trait that triggers on shouts rather than the skill itself.
Should probably be reworked completly, as in a totally new function.
- Sic’em: Our best shout skill by far. Used to be better before the huge nerf to pet damage. Would need a change to allow F2’s to be used while it’s active. Also, imho, I think it would be more interesting if this skill would allow the pet to track and attack a foe in stealth, rather than apply reveal. The duration for tracking/attacking enemies in stealth should be at least 15 seconds to be worth it though.
My suggestion: Grant quickness to the pet for 6 seconds, increase damage dealt to 25% (down from 40%) for 10 seconds, pet gains superspeed for 10 seconds and are able to keep track of (and attack) enemies in stealth for 15 seconds.
All this seems may seem OP – if it were granted to a player! Here we’re talking about an ai, and we all now the drawbacks of pets/minions by now, so no, it would not be op.
EB is not worthy of GM status as it stands right now.
To my surprise, I couldn’t find any large discussions on shouts here, and I’d expect the community to be bursting with ideas and asking for changes.
Oh, we’ve talked about shouts (and evrything else) numerous times alright, since the release of the game. It’s just that after a while you get tired of providing ideas, since we don’t get any feedback from the devs. They don’t tend to hang around in the ranger forums much (as in, not at all, more or less).
