Based on the livestream(which i know isn’t final) the damage numbers are waaay too low. Greatsword is slower than dagger and still seems to deal less damage? If they want us to be slow and hit hard then we really need to hit hard…. So when the final numbers come out then i’ll know forsure how i feel about it.

You are comparing the wrong thing to the wrong thing. Reaper shroud auto should be compared to dagger and even then with dhuumfire it should be about even/higher.
Pvp wise GS is better cause of the pull and the execution finisher of grave digger as well as the pseudo well on nightfall. The damage is only low in the video since he is using a settler amulet.

Reapers shroud looks like it might have potential but greatsword didn’t impress. Also I’m gunna compare reaper shroud to death shroud and greatsword to the other weapons as well. We haven’t really seen greatsword in pvp yet. So I can’t say it’s better than dagger, have you?… I think our offhands are pretty kitten useful, war horn and dagger moreso. I just see greatsword being blinded, blocked , interrupted, shadow step and stability being used to counter it. But if it’s gunna truly hit hard maybe that’s enough to make it threatening anyway.

The reason you do the cross comparison is since dagger matches Rs and DS matched GS functionality wise. Try to compare apples to apples instead of apples to oranges.

It has better tools to actually deal with being in melee and if you know what you are doing with it all the things you mentioned mathematically are not an issue at all given the skills we have been shown.

You could say the same thing about dagger comparison to reapers shroud tbh. dagger doesn’t have a leap but instead an immobalize and reaper’s shroud requires life force to use and even has a stab skill. With offhands and traits the funtionality differs even more. If you don’t think anything i mentioned could be a potential issue that is your opinion. What exact mathemetics are you speaking of?

Also being already in melee is not the problem i’m bringing up. It’s the potential kiting, interrupts and blinds. And the combo of reapers shroud + greatsword and losing regular ds that has a ranged option. All of this can change anyway and until we see it in action we cant really know 4sure. I’m still gunna express how i see it so far. Not stating any of this as fact until i see the end result, which you seem to be doing regardless.

I’m skeptical atm based on how necro has fared this far. Aside form wvw necro was only ever wanted once in pvp mode and that changed very quickly with more nerfs even after it was changed.
I still dislike the shouts as from my point of view we have other better utilities than them. I cant think of a good time to swap for any of these shouts unless you know you will consistantly be hitting 5 targets(wvw maybe?), or you want the lowest cooldown stunbreak.
Consume, wurm, walk, corrupt boon, lich, wells for pve>>>shouts atm.

Just checked out the animation. Plz revert the animation back for human females…. It looks soooo so bad. I’m sad if now if this is the way it stays :/ Not that i auto attacked really ever lol.. But before it looked epic even just running around auto attacking air with my frostfang.

Roe, How are you going to fight a ranger? How are you going to fight a Dragon Knight? A shortbow thief? a condi thief? pistol engi? nades?

My longbow ranger uses chill and cripple runes… I can see it now. Reapers are cannon fodder.

pretty sure the 33-66% snare duration will be staple in all reaper builds all they need is a staff and they can close the gap enough to get in range for the GS pull

Swiftness/25% move speed in RS. Infusing terror and the leap. Spectral grasp or the Reapers Grasp.
Sorted.

It might work if the other players are robots like in the video but when fighting others they can use blocks, blinds, stability, stealth or cc if your stab is gone. Or just blink away from you if you actually do pull them. Maybe staff could work but other classes like ranger and mesmer out damage us by a lot at range. Hopefully its enough to get us in close.

Not surprisingly i’m unimpressed by the shouts. I’m more bias though since they probably wont be that useful in the game modes i play the most(dungeons,spvp). Dungeons= most time spent on single target boss fights. In spvp since these shouts are only 600 range. When you fight a team that positions themselves I doubt you will hit more than 3 players aside from hitting AI. Like Holl said i wouldn’t want to lose wurm/walk/consume/lich for the shouts either. They seem to have potential for wvw though, snaring people with that elite could be fun if I played wvw at all.

The white fog effect around your body is also buggy, sometimes it shows out the mist and sometimes it doesn’t.

Really wish they would fix this. If your a dungoen runner, or do sw you see how much that aura bugs out(the most prominent affect of the legendary imo). It often feels non-existant unless i keep re-stowing my weapon( which is really lame for a legendary :/). Also on humanoid female characters howler clips horribly while in combat, the whole head part goes into your leg.

with the cool mechanics being shown by the revenant, I will be highly dissappointed if anet slaps some shouts on our class, coupled with a melee greatsword and calls it our spec.

Boring, took no brain power, and about as dull as bowling with gutter ball bumpers.

I agree. Our class in pve involves a lot of dagger one spam which is already boring. Giving us a defiance bar sounds really boring as well. Hoping for something innovative like chronomancer’s changes. Shouldn’t get my hopes too high though….

…you end up in 1vs2 or 1vs3 no matter what you do or where you go because your teammates are either perma-dead or fighting somewhere off point all the time

- when someone comes home at start with you to help cap (but if you leave, they follow you without capping????)

^These annoy me the most. Its even more frustrating if I solo queued and the noob team i end up with tries to pin the loss on me >.>

Regardless of our cc defence issues it sounds like something a warrior would get. For me a defiance bar would be so boring for necro :/. I hope we get something more interesting that will still help us as a class.

After looking over the traits there are 2 things I really feel anet should buff; reaper’s precision and axe training.
The new axe training almost feels like a nerf because nobody wants to auto attack with axe and now the damage boost requires cripple. I’d like to see this trait buffed to where you actually want to take it over chill of death if using axe. Axe really needs something, I hope they don’t leave it as is.
For reaper’s precision I think this trait has a lot of potential synergy, especially with death perception since you can get 100% crit. I personally wouldn’t want it removed, just buffing the numbers to usefulness and possibly moving it away from curses line could really help this trait.

Wanted to point out that along with the healing other classes can do while los we generally have consume conditions only. Other classes can also cause us to waste life force becuase of death shrouds cooldown. You can’t always just leave death shroud whenever you want. People can capitalize on you for leaving or entering ds. Even condi loses access to doom until ds recharges for example.

While sometimes marks can hit around obstacles, they sometimes can’t. Unholy feast and wail of doom are fairly short range but can sometimes be used.

Also the more they LoS you the more like his friends coming to “focus necromancer” and rekt you together.

That last part happens a lot too if your team is meh >.<.

Unholy Feast and Wail of Doom ignore line of sight as well.
Also, marks need los for the center but the actual mark can reach around corners, ledges or even trigger through walls.

As to your complaint in general, necros can use los to protect themselves just like any other class. So there really isn’t any disadvantage for us except maybe that other classes can use mobility to get behind cover faster.

They can also stealth, invuln, or block to make sure they can safely los; necro can only dodge, ds or wurm. Necro also can’t deal damage without los unlike mesmers, rangers or engis for example(except for our unreliable minion build). The marks can be used in some situations yea, and unholy feast too. Didn’t know about wail so that’s good to know.

Anyone else feel like this is a weakness of the necro? I’ve played both power and condi build and i find myself facing off against players who will los against necro as a gameplay strategy. AI builds are usually the biggest culprit cause AI doesn’t require los of the player to deal damage. I also run into rangers who will only come out from behind a wall to point blank shot then use 2, then proceed to los again. And also people who are near death will run around rubble in circles so i can’t finish them off and they can heal. What do you guys do as a necro against these type of players with our lack of mobility? I can cap the point and stand on it but i will eventually die if i just sit there taking their hits. If other classes have the option do deal damage without los then why not us? And plz don’t say minions with their terribad AI. I also run wurm and spectral walk on power build but the way they function usually doesnt allow me to “catch” people trying to los( on some rare occasions it has tho). And in general our stronger skills for both builds require los. I think life transfer is the only skill i can think of that doesnt need los.

Why not hire more people so they can get more done faster? In the end it will be a profit for them cause people wont get bored and start playing other games while waiting for the expansion. More people playing= more probable gem sales as well.

Hiring people costs money. You don’t know whether the profit will outweigh the cost of hiring additional people. Nobody except Anet would be able to quantify how many “more” actually means in real numbers, so it’s unfair to assume that … oh wait

While I don’t know the details of anets work, based on what I’ve read and having no new content lately anet is putting all its work into an expansion. I feel like they should just hire more people. That way they can have one team working on the living world and one team working on expansions(cause farming the same stuff is getting really old). And anet’s team can get all their vacations, breaks and not work so hard cause they have more people working on the game. Why not hire more people so they can get more done faster? In the end it will be a profit for them cause people wont get bored and start playing other games while waiting for the expansion. More people playing= more probable gem sales as well. They won’t be available to earn through SAB in the future? If thats the case ill never get them cause I avoid account bound rng stuff(because is sucks and always kittens me over). I’ll obviously be really dissappointed too cause i wanted to collect them all, especially mini assassin which i didn’t get the first time around(reason i want them now is the miniature change). It also eliminates my reason for going into SAB as i just wanted to collect the minis and not the weapons or titles. I know…QQ more? But the point of this thread is to let anet know that i really hope they don’t take away the SAB mini’s to earn through SAB itself instead of making them account bound rng(yuck).

I agree with u on that. Gotta throw mesmers in there too with their phantasm AI. The main problem I have with AI builds is they can still deal damage without los while certain classes can’t. Mesmer and ranger AI can even deal damage while stealthed and not be revealed, so fighting these guys doesn’t feel like a brawl but a game of cat and mouse as they constantly run around rubble and pillars(even in circles sometimes) to los me letting AI do all the work.

Just get 2 gearsets; 1 condi, and 1 zerk. Then switch between both depending on what your doing. Thats what I did anyway.

Revenant will probably be my second main after necro, i like the mysterious vibe they give off with their skills and armor. They seem like a mix of dervish, warrior and necro. But necro will always be my main and always has no matter how kittenty or meta of a state they are in. Even if they suck ill play the underdog and thats fine with me, i do it in other games too.

I really like dry top as a map cause of the non zerg aspect and its multi-level design that just looks way kooler and prettier than silverwastes. If they upped the rewards to be on par with silverwastes I would probably spend more time there than silverwastes( I could care less about the bug weaps and I alrdy have mawdrey). Make it happen anet?

Maybe make it so the higher tier map you get the more buried locked chests will appear during a sandstorm. I always try to find those chests and end up really bored and just leave because it takes forever just to find one. Especially when compared to silverwastes…

“Engineer, Necro, Mesmer, Elementalist and Ranger.”

You can make w/e build you want by lvling but to make it easier and faster for you here are some tips. It’s good to stack power early on as higher damage=faster kills and faster lvling in turn.
EZ mode lvling builds:
1. For necro you can use a minion master build, minions can do all the work for you and with all of them attacking its pretty difficult to actually die unless you are fighting mobs too strong. The build can be a little buggy at times and it sucks imo for dungeons but lvling it works really well.
2. Ele you will want to unlock lightning hammer asap for their faceroll lvling. It has blind on auto attack(so just do that) and most enemies attack so slow while lvling that it almost=perma blind(watchout for dredge though). Staff is a good weapon if you are fighting mutliple enemies. Also note that lightning hammer increases precision while in use. So ele is one class i found stacking precision with power during lvling actually worked out.
3. For ranger just go longbow and have pet attack for you.
4. Engi bomb kit is good for the blind field. With high enough power you can kill foes before the smoke field ends without getting touched.
5. Mesmer just keep your phantasm and clone generation up and keep enemies distracted attacking them while you deal damage. Use a stealth skill to drop aggroe.

You probably wont be able to use these strategies right away until you get more skills unlocked. But when you can everything becomes faceroll while lvling. While your lvlign still try out every weapon for your class so you can get an idea of what each one does for you. And for engi and ele lvling it is a good time to practice might stacking(once you have the skills). Learn your fields and blast finishers for later on :]

Hypocrisy at its finest^ Plz elaborate whats wrong with any argument beyond just saying they are wrong. And who are you determine what rightful salt is? And why does rightful salt mean you don’t have to make any points and can call people bad?

It’s been explained several times even in this very thread how teleport skills the way they are functioning as of now are an absolute necessity for certain classes to survive.
If you don’t know what’s wrong with the argument that keeps tossing this quite important point away, you either:
A.) pretend you don’t understand it
B.) overlook it
C.) actually don’t get the point

None of the aboves mean that me or anyone else explaining it the X+1 times will make any significant results.

I guess your also implying that mesmers can’t think themselves and must always fall for bait. And you also implied you can’t handle lich form yourself with the oversimplified example. I agree with bhawb the passive is very interesting. In team fights it can give condi necro firepower with its trasnfer on dagger 4 and staff 4. And ofc makes its own active stronger becuase of the condi you got from allies you can spike an opponent with plague signet after recieving a high bleed stack from a teammate or something like that. My only problem with the signet is it seems buggy. It has flat out failed to transfer conditions for me enough times to notice because it cost me the point i was defending >.< and i definitly had los and the stunbreak worked. Idk why transfer just fails sometimes :/

Its part of being immature….not part of the game mode. I’m not saying anything else should be nerfed here btw. I’m actually one of the people who don’t and never want ranger longbow to be nerfed even with all the cry lately. I also have and play ranger myself and only making these statement based on what i think would be balanced for the game. The down state is another story however.

And calling people kid isn’t being immature, while being passive aggressive. I’d use some simile here, but the moderators aren’t fond of that.

At this point the only people opinion on the balance of the ranger or any profession downstate is that of the developers so there isn’t really too much reason to continue this thread.

I’m not the one who went off topic to attack someones skill/team. The kid part was exactly that. Giving you a taste of your own medicine…. Don’t like it? then don’t start it in the first place.

Just as bad as the profession bias tear-down strategies or maybe a better name for it would be “Let’s Cry until Anet drowns Ranger”

But you are posting in the PvP section and they allow for certain level of personal attack as just part of the game mode.

Its part of being immature….not part of the game mode. I’m not saying anything else should be nerfed here btw. I’m actually one of the people who don’t and never want ranger longbow to be nerfed even with all the cry lately. I also have and play ranger myself and only making these statement based on what i think would be balanced for the game. The down state is another story however.

What are you using the interrupt it? I know Fear acts like you mention, but daze and stun actually interrupt it and you can’t use the skill again till off cooldown.

All the interrupts work the same as far as i can tell. Quoted from gw2wiki

“When fighting against a ranger, the only way to completely interrupt this skill once it’s been used is by defeating the ranger or its pet. If you attempt to disable the pet while it’s channeling, it will simply return to its master and resume healing once the disabling effect has expired.”

You can CC the pet sure but it goes right back to where it was and starts rezzing again after its free to act, without ranger even activating 3 a second time. The only way to stop the pet from rezzing for good is to kill it, stomp ranger, or have enough dps between you or your team to finish ranger. At the very least i think if you interrupt the pets heal it should not be able to go back and start healing again until 3 is recharged.

If you and your team are having trouble killing/stomping one guy…. That just says all it needs to in and of itself.

I’m not having trouble in general, just stating the options. But there are occasions when its clear that ranger will always win the downstate war and you might as well put down your keyboard until respawn. If pet can be interrupted this gives other classes a chance to win in a downstate fight. Currently if you down a ranger. Even if you down him fast and your still alive, if you happened to get downed after its gg assuming your team isn’t involved. Is this really fun and fair when you won the fight before downstates came into play?

Btw what is it with all these kids on the forums that resort to skill or personal attacks because they don’t agree?

Imo discussing necro 1v1 balance is pointless. It can be summarised as if you have anton of lf you can beat anything possibly and with no lf you are the worst class in the history of the game. As a result necro is very dependent on ur team mates. If you have to survive in deathshroud for longer in a team fight because your teammates missed their pin down or grenade barrage or immobalise then that snowballs into you having less lf for the rest of the game[/quote]

I agree with everything except mesmer can still beat necro even with deathshroud if they abuse their blink, AI and los you.

I’m assuming based on this post, that you are playing condi necro.
Mesmer is the weakest zerker when it comes to condi pressure, having 0 condi cleanse so not sure how you have problems with that. Without DS it is quite difficult (an everstanding necro issue regarding every class), but with decent LF bar, it is a stomp.

close the gap while AA’ing and thus building up condi pressure, use chill if trying to kite
force out the juke >> wurm next to him
(SoS if you run it) >> DP >> Fear chain >> gg no re

as for avoiding AI, dodge iZerker, it’s not rocket science

this is horribly oversimplyfied, but I honestly don’t understand how can you have difficulties on a condi spike class against a class with low base health pool and 0 cleanses.

How do you stack condi or auto attack on an invis, invuln, blocking, los target or while interrupted/moa? Every time i try to sos, chill or doom gues who i cant hit because of one of the above?(yet AI is still hitting me) When all his stuff is finally out and i have an oppurnity I’m nearly dead becuase of AI or im running away trying to live from AI damage since necros cant stealth, invuln or dodge a lot. Lets not forgot necros gap closer needs LOS so if you blink to some upper lvl your strategy is alrdy countered. And mesmers do bring condi remove usually mantra of resolve when im facing them. The only way i ever beat good mesmers now is by surprise attack before they can start stealthing, going invuln or los me.

It’s been explained several times even in this very thread how teleport skills the way they are functioning as of now are an absolute necessity for certain classes to survive.
If you don’t know what’s wrong with the argument that keeps tossing this quite important point away, you either:
A.) pretend you don’t understand it
B.) overlook it
C.) actually don’t get the point

None of the aboves mean that me or anyone else explaining it the X+1 times will make any significant results.

Cleave only wrecks stealthed thieves btw^ mesmers can ranged. And death shroud can’t be compared to an invuln that negates everything. Ds drains which means you can reset the fight and come back after the life force is goign down or gone. And you can play ping pong ball on necro which has no access to its utilities in ds

Also, recall that these teleport spots are buggy to begin with and only accessible to a few classes, this Gives the classes an unfair advantage that they Should not have.

BECAUSE EVERYTHING WITHOUT THESE PORTS IS SUSTAINABLE.

But I give up now, this post is full of bads who have 10 hours in PvP and think they know everything. kitten it.

Sure! Take away vertical attacks too. So longbow Rangers and power necros can’t sit on a ledge or roof and spam one. Because they take so much skill! It’s only fair!

Longbow ranger sure but def not necro. It needs los to land attacks(so you can hit necro back) unlike mesmer and rangers AI that never stops hitting you even when your hiding, and cant be hit yourself since you dont need los for AI to do damage. It’s not fun or fair… Its basically getting free damage on someone depending on the class they play.

I would love this. No more cheap wins from mesmers that blink on top and let ai do the damage. There is nothing fun about something that can hit you and you cant hit it back.

If anet buffs mesmers i hope they give necro a way of dealing with them. As it stands mesmer can completely destroy necro if played right. All they have to do is summon ai phantasms(condi necro is slow at destroying phantasms and cant waste its burst skills on them) and keep 1 or 2 up while stealthing, blocking, blinking to some obscure location, or invuln so i can’t hit them. If they actually get caught up and hit with some of my condi they can just stealth and moa you since you cant see it coming. How do you counter something that will never give you the oppurtunity land a hit on them, and have the power to avoid all your attacks? All while their Ai is hitting you… Tho i realize other classes dont have this problem as they can kill phantasms faster and stealth, invuln or block themselves.

sure, I rather have one of the least played class as a hard counter to Mesmer instead of a class like thief that’s played by 50% of the community…

Id rather there be no hard counters and everyone has a chance to win a fight given the right skill, if only…

Everytime I run hotw my aura still bugs consistently. I think the aura bugged 5-6 times on p1 with my necro ugh….. I see people mentioning animal footprints. Honestly i would hate if they did that since it would make howler almost a ranger specific weapon. I wouldnt wana use a warhorn on my necro that gave her animal footprints when she looks deathly and evil. Wouldn’t fit, so plz dont do that. Mist prints and auras can fit a variety of themes imo.

Thnx for the advice on medi guard, i’ll focus on making them waste his cleanses sooner and watch for tells. Sometimes the blinds and blocks can mess up my condition stacking too. But I have alrdy beaten some now, it was just a few legendary champ medi guards that got me >.<.I generally don’t have trouble with other engi builds or thieves. Just turrets cause some of the turret engis like to abuse los so I can’t hit them or transfer condi while their turrets hit me. But i’m playing more patient vs them now and keeping my distance from the turrets. Capping around works too, it’s still annoying dealing with them tho XD.

I would be pretty happy if they just made axe 900 range and buffed 2 a little more. Making axe auto splash aoe would also be nice. Basically what Balekai said in first paragraph^^ Overall it does feel pretty underpowered :/

I have to admit the amount of effort it takes to beat a engi/mesmer that uses AI to attack you while they go invuln, stealth, and run around pillars all day so you cant hit them is over the top. (sad thing is those builds require little to no effort :/) Makes me wish necro did have stealth in a way, although i know it doesn’t fit. That way instead of the opponent getting the satisfaction of watching me die to AI attacks while he is stealthed, invuln or hiding. I can just stealth too until his wears off so his AI cant hit me >.< I could also run away I guess but i can’t help but see it as hard counter for poor necro if they are forced to run. I agree medi guard also counters hard, They deal damage more quickly than necro and have so many blocks/blinds combined with all their condi removal it feels very one sided for condi nec. The other classes or builds i dont really have trouble with at least, including warrior. So i don’t think everything hard counters necro into uselessness it just comes off as rock/paper/scissor balance to me.
Anyone have any tips vs good medi guards or people who let AI do their dirty work while they hide or invuln?
