You should have bought a pick when you had the chance. Now your missing out on big sub-1s winning.
Thanks for agreeing that this is P2W, and that is why I would like to hear a response from Anet on the subject.
I don’t agree it’s pay to win (I guess the sarcasm was just wasted on you). I just think you should have bought one if you think it’s such an epic amount of awesomeness. It doesn’t make sense to say the pick is full of win, then not take advantage of it … unless you’re just being obtuse.
The pick is here. It’s not going anywhere. It hasn’t brought people immense wealth or ‘WIN’, whatever that is. What kind of response are you actually waiting for Anet to give you? There isn’t anything to say. Maybe they could tell us how much revenue they made from the sales and compare that to operating costs, demonstrating how many months of funding it provided to keep this game free to play. Perhaps that would clear up the fit of ignorance some people are exhibiting.

I think their is an argument for ignoring it:
1. Blind spam isn’t all that necessary if someone wants to make a tanky build. Counter argument: We have to support our team … see point 2
2. Blind spam is not as useful in high HP mob fights, and it’s questionable for trash because it dies fast. If you have a mob of trash, that’s when it’s awesome.
For me, blind spam is nice but situational. I can see a case for having 0 in Radiance if it suits the build someone is after.

It’s too long and for the reward … I can farm Mithril and make more in the same time.
OH NOES! 1s! Let me check something ….
Checks to see if it still takes tens of thousands of uses for the sprockets to justify having bought this pick financially
Hrmm… yep. Still does.
Ah, the sky isn’t falling.
The above advice is good but if you still can’t get the zerkers going for yourself, don’t be afraid to come back and ask again … you’re not a failure if it doesn’t work for you.
Haha.. wow. This really is impressive. I wonder if this kitten will get media attention at one point, monetizing in video games is going borderline criminal.
It’s criminal? Care to explain? It’s paying for access to entertainment. Is it criminal when you go see a movie or a concert?
He said BORDERLINE. This is different from actually being Criminal.
It’s not borderline either … is it borderline criminal to pay to see a movie or concert? Qualifying a ridiculous statement like that doesn’t make it a less ridiculous statement.
paying for a movie would be equivalent to paying the $30 to buy a GW2 accounts.
Then paying extra just to have audio on the movie, paying extra to be able to swap seats in the middle of the movie without anyone able to complain about it, paying extra to have a higher resolution of the movie that other people cannot enjoy would be the equivalent to paying for VIP in this case.
That’s a flawed example. Audio and choice of a seat are not OPTIONS when you go to the movie, they are part of the movie purchase. Gemstore IS an option. You can certainly play GW2 without buying stuff from it. If you want a more valid comparison, the gemstore is like candy and popcorn.
The stuff in gemstore is added entertainment value that you can buy with gold or RL money. P2W or not, EVERYONE has access to buy stuff in there and it’s not like the example you cite at all. Again, you are skirting the issue … why does anyone in NA care if some dude in China can warp or ress? Where is the win in that scenario when we don’t compete with them? Nonsense.

I just had to ask because I had seen things said as far as “a support guardian does more harm than good” and I was sitting scratching my head as that just seemed absurd. Glad to hear my thinking was right. It may not be optimal but it’s an option.
Be aware that people will be willing to say whatever is necessary to convince others there is a ‘right’ way to do things in this game so more people adopt this style of gameplay, sometimes in opposition to how they wish to play themselves. Don’t forget why you like to play this game and you won’t be misled by this crusade to convert the ‘baddies’.

the title gets out of hand if you expect me to include every single little example on it, how about we leave it on a general tone? why that obsession over the title?
the resurrect buff well… resurrects.
things like guild bounties have a longer than 8h 10min cooldown
and I think your last statment is an opinion and that it depends largely on the speedrunner
Neither of those are p2w and frankly, who gives a rats kitten if it is? If it means I’m not pushed closer to paying a monthly fee, I don’t CARE who can do these things, as long as the money flows into the gemstore.
The p2w crying is a little ridiculous. Other than the fact that shortsighted people don’t recognize how gemstore benefits them, they also don’t get the fact that these ‘p2w’ items can b purchased by EVERYONE because you can not only get gems wtih RL money but ingame gold. The gemstore ain’t going nowhere. Might as well stop the QQ>

I’m hoping someone can tell US if one can target with the thumbpad while moving with the WASD on the Orbwearver …
Anyone?
You’re going to get alot of answers here and probably a bunch of people trying to tell you exactly what to do because it’s ‘right’ (to them).
Here is some real advice. I don’t think there is a best (your gear depends on your content and situation) but the most versatile would be Celestial. Guardians benefit from EVERY stat there, regardless of the build. It doesn’t give the best damage, or healing, or highest HP but if you are capable, it will serve you well for every situation. Augmenting with the proper trinkets can lean you towards whatever stats you are after (and it’s cheaper to swap them than it is to swap armor).
IF you don’t want zerkers, then just run knights instead? I’m all for people running whatever builds they like but to run something just because it’s not zerkers doesn’t make alot of sense to me. Unless you have a reason other than “just to be different”, the only recommendation would be to run something that isn’t zerkers.
Perhaps you can provide more context to what other benefits you are after or want to provide that you feel zerkers doesn’t give you?
I also have the Naga and I think we have the same issue … thumb pressing the side buttons and losing some cursor control. I just never got a feel for what ones I was pressing or if I did, I couldn’t grip the mouse comfortably to move around (I think the mouse is too small for me). I was thinking about moving to a Razer gamepad (with the thumb controller) but I haven’t pulled the trigger because I don’t know if the thumb can be used to move the cursor. I do think it would be superior for me playing this game, it may also be for you.
I can’t think of any good use for Cavalier …
1. Power isn’t the primary stat so if you want any reasonable damage with it, you have to pair with a power primary (zerker, soldier, etc…)
2. Of the primary toughness armors, Knights beats it because precision gives a better damage boost than crit damage
3. Crit damage is going to be replaced with Ferocity and the conversion rate of Ferocity is (from what I can tell from the Dev’s livestream) going to be made to LOWER overall damage output when that happens.
This is a very irrelevant armorset IMO.

please u have no reason to complain about not getting the rewards you want , thats random, thats life, its not ur birth right to get a scrap after the magic number 12 chests
either give up or keep trying but please stop complaining….
why, are you afraid they’re gonna improve stuff so it doesn’t make you unique anymore?
I don’t think anyone getting BL skin is doing it to be unique because they aren’t unique … anyone has the capability to spend money or gold to get them.
I don’t see what improvement is needed here. This is how Anet makes their revenue. I don’t think players should end up footing the bill with a monthly sub so more people can wave around skins they want.

Example: Mithril usually hovers at around 25-30c but has gone up to 80c.
75c during the absolute peak of the snowflake saga according to spidy.
Not exactly the thing to hope for.
You don’t need hope, you need patience. Perhaps my numbers were a bit off (Mithril has done this a few times) but the example is still valid. If you farm and wait for the right time to sell, you make quite a bit of money. If you just dump stuff at the end of every farming session, that’s just a bad idea. The idea here is simple … everything has ups and downs and spidy is an excellent record of historical value. Just pay attention to them and act accordingly.
Obviously this won’t work for the OP … he’s not selling his crafting mats but in that case, farming isn’t a profit making activity. Outside of farming, the most money I have made is simple Champ train.
(edited by Obtena.7952)
This is what I don’t get … gear (at least in Spvp) is different from PVE. Yet, we have the same skills, weapons and traits … WHY? Other than the time it would take, what is the barrier to separating ALL the elements between sPVP and PVE? I can’t think of any.
I digress a bit but if my crystal ball is working, I don’t think Anet is going to ‘unbalance’ PVE to get a good working balance for PVP or even WvW. The main story of the game is PVE. I believe that PVE balance is CRIPPLED because of PVP, not the other way around. This is unfortunate.
That’s also a problem … you’re not going to make much money selling JUST your salvageable gear from farming either.
Are you putting stuff on the TP when it’s worth something or just as you get it? That’s a HUGE part of why you have no money as a farmer.
Example: Mithril usually hovers at around 25-30c but has gone up to 80c. Of course you make no money dumping mithril at 25c.
Perhaps in WvW that’s true but in the 4th post, the OP indicates the scope of the discussion is about sPvP. I would think the biggest problem with balancing the Guardian is that each of the game elements have different issues. How does one go about fixing one without affecting the others? It’s a fool’s errand and I think the devs know it.
(edited by Obtena.7952)
Depends on what you’re going to use it for. Even a mace can be traited to deliver good sustained DPS as well as burst. Mace tends to get the thumbs down because you HAVE to put 20 into Valour to get the most from it and it’s special abilities are focused on the no-so-effective healing in PVE. That’s quite a bit of commitment in that line for any PVE build right now. For what it’s worth, I would take a Mace over Sword for open world PVE anytime.
I believe this is correct based on my own testing as well but that’s a long time ago. Still I find myself flipping between it and Smite Condition. I feel that jumping into a temple event calls for Purging and trash farming is more suited to Smite Condition. Any good farming setup will have a high frequency AOE damage skill for tagging anyways and shouldn’t use Purge in this manner.
(edited by Obtena.7952)
I don’t consider beta testing phase and changes from them nerfs because beta testing is just that … testing. It’s not the final product released to the public. I guess it’s semantics to you guys because you want Guardians to play like Warriors. That’s OK but it’s clear that Anet isn’t going to let that happen.
You can say HP is a lynch pin problem but it would be useful to say why. I claim it’s not because there are other approaches to deal with what is wrong that are actually inline with the Guardian profession and maintain the challenge of playing the class; more HP isn’t one of them.
(edited by Obtena.7952)
Enchanter class or not, HP doesn’t address the issues we have in sPvP. For me, this is one class where you have to work with others and offer more tempting targets for the enemy. It doesn’t lend itself well to Rambo-ing around the countryside. People that don’t do that either have to bunker down or die.
(edited by Obtena.7952)
Beta is a testing phase … obviously you haven’t learned that the fact they changed it to lower HP after testing means that Guardians with high HP had an unintended impact to the game.
Regardless, more HP isn’t the answer to the problems Guardians have in sPvP so waving some archaic facts around is moot anyways.
(edited by Obtena.7952)
Few people bite on this topic because they don’t consider farming open world mobs and events “content”. Regardless, I can help you because it’s 90% of what I do ingame and optimized my own approach.
This content is all about how many simultaneous damage effects you can bring to bear on a mob because 1) they die fast and 2) in an event, you don’t have alot of time to get the damage needed to tag for lootrights. Based on this strategy, I like 3 builds:
1. GS with 20/25/0/20/5 (Multiple skill rotations to get Bursty AOEs, yum)
2. Hammer with 25/25/0/0/20 (If you are hitting events more often and benefit from protection boon)
3. Mace with 15/30/20/0/5 (Fast, repeatable burst rotation)
I won’t specify the traits (I hope that’s obvious, if it’s not, I can elaborate). I’m typically in zerker gear with Traveler’s runes and run Purging Flames, Sword of Justice and Bane Signet. I HIGHLY advise traveler’s runes because most of your time is spent moving around so the faster you move, the more mobs you kill, the better your farm will be.
Another build I’m toying with is Scepter 20/25/x/x/x but I’m not as happy with it. It’s got more moving parts and range is actually not your friend in this kind of content.
If you are interested in other classes for this kind of farming, I would recommend Necro and Theif as THE best (I haven’t tried warrior or engineer yet).
(edited by Obtena.7952)
we started as a tanky class and had the same HP as warrior but they nerfed us to the point that we are an enchanter class except if you go full bunker
Unless I’m mistaken, we were never in the same HP category as the warrior. If we were, it was at best only a few months at release or it’s because warriors got a buff to HP. That’s not really relevant anyways because anyone that identifies HP as a problem for Guardians in the game doesn’t understand the class in the first place.
HP is not a problem in SPvP but that being said, Guardian isn’t exactly a faceroll class either.

There is a real world stock market out there for you to play.
I rather just play it as an adventure game.
But if you want to maximize the gold available in an MMO, at least respect the TP.
That’s the thing I hate, TP is the most rewarding aspect of this game.
That’s only true if the ONLY reward you get from playing GW2 is gold. Of course, if that’s the case, I have to flip this back … why are you even playing GW2?
So tell me exactly what people are being rewarded for doing fractal or doing wvw.
Fun, satisfaction, sense of accomplishment, etc?? I mean, I could go on but you get the idea. Sitting and making gold on TP is the MOST rewarding aspect of the game? Yeah, maybe if you don’t want to actually PLAY it.
I already know you are going to say that. Most pure WvW cant’ even afford to wear ascended gear. Fractal is somewhat gated by agony(gold) too. Not to mention there really isn’t much update in this game over the past 2 years.
Which is beside the point why can’t fun content reward gold. But only boring content can.
That’s sensationalism at it’s best. fun content does reward gold. What is ‘fun’ is subjective anyways.

Me too. At 50c, P2win with sprockets is going to take a long time.
You guys do realize that’s Obal’s DPS build right? (written all over youtube comments).
Think he should give him at least some credit.
I think people should recognize that Obal did not invent this build (To be clear, no one invents these things). He popularized it by promoting damage and meta for PVEl in fact he promotes MANY builds doing this, none of which his own discovery. While that’s commendable and appreciated greatly, he deserves as much credit for this video guide as a preacher does for writing the Bible.
As for the guide itself, I like it because he’s specific about talking about DPS builds. It’s a good VIDEO supplement to what Obal has provided … Obal should update his DPS thread with it.

I don’t like to see bad advice spread, but the forums have turned into a hug box of bad advice being good, and good advice being “elitist jerks” that want to enforce blah blah blah…
I’m wondering if you have even read the posts after reading this … what ‘bad advice’ was given? For the OP to use an armor set HE ALREADY HAS?
Your Mastercard will report your purchase in USD WITH the exchange rate but be assured, they are charging you the appropriate amount in CAN$ IF it’s a credit card with a Canadian financial institution.
This is not an Anet issue, it’s a “I Live in Canada, buying something in the US” issue.
But whatever, its not like you will stop drinking the “play how I want” Flavor Aid (which is what was actually used in the event that started the meme".
You too are playing “how you want”-even if that is “meta” builds. What gives you the right to look down on others for doing the same?
BINGO!
My point is pugs are randomly bad BECAUSE people are running terrible builds such as celestial.
Let’s assume this is true. I’m still correct saying celestial is a nice fallback armor for PVE because you have assumed that discouraging people from using anything but DPS builds means they will stop being used. Somehow that makes sense to you but I can assure you, it’s nonsense. Why? Because people play how they want and that’s REASONABLE and EXPECTED because it’s their time and money and their rationale for playing is based on THEIR OWN gaming values, not anyone elses.
So if you are PUGing, and there is a chance your team didn’t like the DPS flavoured Koolaid your passing out, in game or on the forums, it is NICE to be able to swap to a set of armor, like Celestial if someone finds they need it, especially in the case of the OP who already has that set. Schools out.
(edited by Obtena.7952)
One of the randomness of pugging is people run crappy for dungeons stat sets like celestial. By building expecting that pugs will be horrible you are contributing to the problem.
I don’t regard people playing builds they like and are comfortable with as a problem. You’re perspective isn’t universal, therefore I don’t feel I’m contributing to something negative.
Consensus building is stupid. I don’t care if you think you are contributing a popularly held belief, its still wrong and you can’t fix the math by saying otherwise.
So are what are you saying here … its wrong for people to play builds they like and are comfortable with, because they don’t meet some sort of minimum threshold or criteria based on what OTHER people value? And somehow that makes ME stupid to disagree with that? Let me be VERY clear to you. I think it’s good when people play to their highest ability AND the way they want. It’s what’s makes people play AND STAY playing.
I haven’t provided any misinformation … I gave a reason why celestial is nice set between PVE and WvW, you decided to tell me I’m wrong because it offends your sense of making everyone conform to how YOU want them to play. Politicizing the “PVE DPS ONLY” thing is getting a little old. (Take note .. the OP already HAS a celestial armor set so he’s probably not interested in drinking your flavour of Koolaid)
I would be willing to entertain the idea I’m stupid for thinking it’s OK for people to play builds they like in a game THEY paid for and play on THEIR time if you are willing to actually propose WHY that’s a stupid idea … ball’s in your court.

Too bad the “satisfaction from playing on his own terms” he derives is from false information.
Does it matter? If he’s happy playing, it’s really not relevant where it originates from. People figure out what they like pretty quick. Besides, he’s not being provided false information … he’s asking about a good tanky build for PVE. If it makes him happy to play one, he should.

There’s a big, fat sticky by obal …
Solo PVE? No offense to Obal but his guide misses the mark for solo PVE by a long shot, if I’m to assume that the OP isn’t talk about soloing dungeons but doing general open world events and farming when he refers to solo PVE. His guide is about damage, related to teaming in PVE. Damage on solo content is a completely different monster. The things that maximize damage killing trash or bosses/mobs at hundred man events is about stacking damage sources.
We have 4: Direct damage, Spirit Weapons, Burning and symbols. The best solo PVE builds think in terms of how to get the most and fastest application of these effects. Essentially, how often and how much can you burst for? The builds that are typically pushed for in PVE are sustained damage. Here, where things only live long enough to get a handful of hits, that means little.
When I solo PVE, these are some builds I run: GS 20/25/0/20/5 or Mace 25/20/20/0/5 or Hammer 25/25/0/0/20 (if you like a bit more survival). Skills are typically Heal Signet, Power Signet, SW Sword, Purge or SYG (this one depends on the zone I’m in .e.g., SYG against centaurs because of knockback).
(edited by Obtena.7952)
My advise on Celestials is that don’t bother for now. Anet is going to drastically nerf the crit dam on Celestials. If you make them now, you are just wasting your effort. Wait until the balance patch hits.
Let’s tone down speculation …
Crit damage is changing to Ferocity on all gear. Celestial is going to be impacted in a very unknown way because it doesn’t have secondary stats (which is what Ferocity will be). Even if it’s nerfed, it’s still going to perform relative to all armor sets close to what it will be today because much of the damage weight from Celestial doesn’t come from crit damage; in fact crit damage has the least significant impact on overall damage out of power, crit chance and crit damage.
What is NICE about celestial is that it’s very applicable to WvW and can be for PVE as well, due to the randomness of PUGing (if you do that). I think you have the right approach … Set your armor, make adjustments swapping trinkets and weapons. That’s the cheapest route IMO as well.

I’m the one that keeps your squishy pure dps class alive.
Dodging, blocks and blinds keep my squishy dps class alive while I see a cascade of numbers. You make it take longer for me to complete content.
Maybe, but his motivation to play isn’t to make you complete content faster, it’s for him to get his own satisfaction from playing on his own terms. It’s great when those two things align but they don’t have to.
(edited by Obtena.7952)
This would prevent tp manipulation and “playing the market”, but people who don’t do that and just play the game would remain unaffected.
You haven’t explained why this should be prevented in the first place. If nerfing it doesn’t affect people that don’t do that and just play, then not nerfing it doesn’t affect those people that don’t do that and just play either.
I have NEVER played a game where rewards are intended to be earned AFK, whether the coding allowed it or not. Take that for what it’s worth. Letter of the law doesn’t always take precedent. If devs are kicking AFKer’s it’s probably because their is a GAP in the code that would normally do this for them.
At least the new sickle got no bonus added…
Question is : Who on earth would “buy” the sickle since it has no bonus,
People that don’t have them that want them now.
what stops them from adding a new tool later that is a sickle WITH a bonus?
Waste of money in that case.
Nothing, but no one should have a problem with people wasting money so they can play for free.
I’m most annoyed by the fact that investing in Virtues gives no stat that improves their passive effect. Kind of stupid. While the passive is more aligned to self improvement, it doesn’t mean they should be as insignificant as they are.
