Impactful changes to Warrior

  1. I don’t think that Final Thrust should be 1/4, considering that it has the same damage as Eviscerate if your foe has <50% hp.
  2. Making Whirling Axe evade during the animation would make it ridiculous in PvE.
  3. Not sure I agree with the Quick Breathing change. 4 conditions converted, along with removal of Immobilize, Chill and Cripple is pretty kitten strong. Especially if you start considering Cleansing Ire, Restorative Strength and Mending.
  4. I don’t like your Mobile Strikes. Ignoring Chill and Cripple will never happen. Simply because that completely supersedes Dogged March.

Viability of 1 handed Sword in PvE.

Olba.5376

Let’s get one thing out of the way: You can play the game with any weaponset.

Now then, in my opinion there’s two aspects to look at. First is Sword/X in relation to other similar specs. The Sword is a funky weapon, as its main purpose in PvE is conditions. However, in that regard, Warrior just plain sucks. Granted, we can get 16s duration bleeds, but the speed at which we put them up is just sad. In comparison to other condi builds, Warriors aren’t much of a contender.

Second is Sword/X in relation to other Warrior specs. Ok, right off the bat: It’s bad. Not only is it inherently disadvantaged because it’s conditions, but the damage it dishes out is far behind what you could get with some of our direct damage setups.

So if you ask me, Sword/X isn’t that good of a setup in PvE. However, it is playable. So if you don’t mind being a bit slower and contributing less to your team, I say go for it. Personally, I have the most fun in PvE with Sword/Axe with Furious.

I would like to see the experience at the crafter made available account wide.
Example my weaponsmith title says 158, regardless of who accumulated that experience I would like my other characters to take over from 158 if it needs a weapon.
I don’t want to have to look trough 8 characters each time I want to craft something.

Um, I don’t really get the issue.

Each character can learn every crafting, but they can only produce goods from two at a time. Plus, we have an accountwide bank.

If the crafting was accountwide, then you wouldn’t be able to benefit from crafting experience on any of your alts. That would upset a lot of people.

Let’s be serious for a moment.

There has been very little content that has not been absolutely destroyed by Dulfy’s guides. And even if they didn’t have one at release, one would pop up as soon as the dungeon was completed by someone.

And let’s also think about the playerbase. How many people do you think would be willing to take days, possibly weeks or months trying to best a dungeon… all for a title? A huge majority of the people in this game do things only for the rewards. Put in something that is not a tangible reward (aka something not worth money) and you end up with that content being ignored.

If you think that won’t happen, then take a look at the minigames. Most of the off-season ones are pretty much dead and the on-season ones have people who team up to farm god kitten achievements.

Hell, take a look at Fractals. They were supposed to be the holy grail of dungeons: increasing difficulty and increasing rewards, meaning that people who liked difficulty got what they wanted. And how well did that work, again?

For example when I first create my thief human I met this incredible thing : there is no old man skin or kind of ! I mean why my thief can be older than a 30 years old and why he can’t be ugly : he’s looks like a knight! I don’t want it look like a knight. I chose a thief to be apart.

That’s an artist thing. You want things to be beautiful. And there are some things that could go very wrong with the skins. For example, not all races show age that well. Then there’s the gender issue. I’ve never seen a game that had elderly women as playable characters.

Also the story is strange. I mean he’s a thief. Since when a thief love his country. Why I’m a friend of the queen’s team ? It should be this way: I committed a crime and the only thing allows me to stay alive it’s to pay a debt to my country. Not help it by pleasure. Do you understand my regrets ?

That’s a conscious choice by ANet. Your Personal Story is not influenced by the profession you choose.

The thing is, Guild Wars 2 isn’t a story about villains. It’s a story about heroes. It’s a story about various races setting their differences aside and uniting in the face of a threat that could kill them all. If you were to put in villains into the storyline at this point, you would have to pretty much write them their own portions into the Personal Story, because everything you do in the Personal Story is rather heroic. And considering how massive the Personal Story already is, that’s a tough order.

Also why everyone is so kind? Everyone is happy in this game and it’s a bit boring dont you think? I know it’s not important for the gameplay but it’s come on It would be more reallistic!

That really depends on where you are. There’s a lot of zones in the game that are, essentially, going through peace time. On the other hand, there are regions which are in a constant, on-going war. And it shows.

Has GW2 ruined other mmo's ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Olba.5376

Olba.5376

The one thing that my previous MMO (Perfect World) lacked was combat. PvE was essentially all about repeating the highest DPS rotation ad nauseum, whereas PvP was dominated by the cash shoppers with top gear. Even if you were in the minority who had the best gear (which, for the record, costs thousands of $$), PvP was a massive CC spam, usually lost by whomever picked the worse time to use their immunity potions.

Honestly, even if all you added was the ability to move around while attacking, that would be a massive improvement. But GW2 goes beyond that. Instead of healing and high uptime on damage immunities, you have dodges and actually taking advantage of attack range.

Other than that, the whole buy-to-play thing is another big bonus. I belong to the category of people who will not pay a subscription fee, not because I couldn’t afford it, but because I don’t think it’s right for me to pay for “access” to a game. Add to that the fact that most free-to-play MMORPGs come with a heavy lean on their cash shops, often resulting in the best gear being unavailable or unrealistic to get without spending money on it.

I don’t think I can go back to playing a game where your combat consists of walking up to a monster and using skills, being completely unable to move around.

Crit damage and precision [with math]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Olba.5376

Olba.5376

Yes, afterwards I will run the numbers for the different pieces, but for now I’m focusing on seeing if it makes sense first.

Well personally, I don’t think that your math makes sense, if you consider the gear choices with crit damage%.

Your math assumes that the amount of Power you have doesn’t change. You’re also talking about trading Precision for Crit damage%. These parameters exist in exactly two comparisons: Valkyrie vs Berserker and Cavalier vs Knight.

Well, if you’re willing to forego that flaw, you’re still running into the issue with difference types of equipment yielding different amounts of crit damage% per precision.

Also, your math does not take into account any amount of base crit % that you might have, such as Fury or the 4% that you start with (which turns into 5% after just 11 points of Precision). And of course, there are playstyles and traits which kinda make the math moot. For example, Thieves have Hidden Killer and Warriors have high uptime of Fury and Unsuspecting Foe.

And honestly, we already have the average damage increase charted, so honestly I don’t see a point in doing the math. Personally, if I was deciding on gear, I would first optimize the crit damage% with this chart and then move around pieces according to the damage chart.

What I am saying is this: You’re proposing adding a source of gold to a place that currently does not have a source to take out that gold. If you don’t add the latter part, then kitten yes it’s gonna inflate. You’ll have to do something. And somehow I don’t think that PvP people would like the idea of having to pay repair costs or other fees.

And surely you cannot say that the PvE players should foot the bill for the extra gold that the PvP players will be making. Because that would be ridiculous.

The thing is, PvP has no costs whatsoever. There are no repairs and no waypointing. Putting a gold faucet into something like that is asking for trouble. Because if you do that, you either watch as the inflation goes crazy, or you put in new gold sinks.

And those sinks? Well, let’s just say that if you pump up the sinks in PvE because PvP is getting rewards, you’re gonna kitten off majority of the players. And if you put the sinks into the PvP aspect, you’ll kitten off the PvP community. So either way, it’s not going to work.

So, since you cannot really put the gold sinks anywhere without kitten ing off a ton of people, I don’t see it happening.

Really, a heavy armor with support capabilities? That is the Guardian.

There are various reasons why there are no “tanks” in GW2. Aggro was mentioned, as there are no mechanics to keep aggro on you at all times. Similarly, a lot of bosses have attacks that kill you in a single shot, so tanking won’t make sense there either. And honestly, we have a mobile combat system, so having tanks would rather eliminate the need for dodging and evades, which would just bring us down to sitting in one spot and spamming skills.

And let me tell you, I don’t wanna go back into activating skills while standing still. That kitten is boring!

  1. All characters should have level 80 base stats and hit points. All weapons should have level 80 weapon power and all armor should have level 80 defense. A character should start with all armor pieces. None of these statistics increase with level.
  2. Weapons and armor still have stat bonuses (+10 vitality, etc.) that increase with item level, and their weapon power and defense vary with quality (masterwork, ascended, etc.). The player can spend trait points and skill points normally and still unlocks an elite skill at level 30.
  3. Monsters should be balanced by expected player skill and resources per area. Additional effects of level disparity (likliehood of glancing blows and critical hits) should be removed. Since the level scaling system won’t do anything anymore, it should also be removed.
  1. What the hell? If everyone has the same stats, then how do you differentiate a low level area from a high level area? How do you know whether someone is a rookie in a game where you can spend real life money to get your gear?
  2. So first you say that you should have all stats, then you say they shouldn’t. Really, that’s very incoherent.
  3. Ok, let’s get one thing straight. YOU CANNOT BALANCE AROUND PLAYER SKILL. That’s just not possible. And let me tell you something: Level scaling is one of the best things to ever happen to the genre of MMORPGs, it doesn’t need to go anywhere, it needs to be more common.

The thing is, the guild content was something that the level 80s asked because there was nothing to do as a guild. It was never something that you were supposed to be doing at level 10.

There is already appropriate scaling in dungeons and it’s in place for a reason. If anything, I think that it’s kittening awesome that a level 30 character can do a dungeon with a level 80. The thing is, dungeons are not newbie content. They were never meant to be that and they never should be.

Making condition damage viable

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Olba.5376

Olba.5376

My proposal: The game deciphers those individuals whom have the highest condition damage from gear and their build, and prioritizes their stacks over someone that is zerker specced whom happens to be able to throw up 5 or 6 stacks of a bleed doing inconsequential damage.

So basically you’re asking the game to have precognition. I am pretty sure that’s impossible.

Erm no. Not sure if you know what precognition means. Im not asking it to predict the future. Im pretty sure it can distinguish which player has more condition damage. After all, a lot of bossses in the game determine hate/threat based on toughness. This is a widely accepted notion about how aggro works. So by the same means, Im sure it can figure out who has more condi damage.

More condition damage does not mean it’s better. Or are you going to seriously suggest replacing a 12s stack of bleed at 90 damage with a 1s bleed dealing 120?

Not to mention that since there are bleeds which don’t last very long, such as Flurry at 2s base, the amount of additional calculations the servers would have to do is ridiculous.

And besides, there are factors which you just cannot use a machine for. For example, the playerbase generally agrees that Warriors aren’t that good with bleeds. Has to do with the fact that our bleeds are applied in stacks of 1 or 4, with the exception of Flurry. Takes a while to get stacks going on a Warrior, but they last longer than any other bleeds in the game. Meanwhile, a bleed Thief is the opposite with Sneak Attack applying 5 stacks but only lasting 4s.

vigor and Stability need to GO

in Suggestions

Posted by: Olba.5376

Olba.5376

I think vigor and stability are breaking the game. Some classes have ample access to it, some don’t. These 2 boons are breaking the game, they need to go. Get rid of them and I think you’ll find this game sooo much easier to balance out. In fact we might even see true balance…for a short time anyway until someone figures out a new exploit. It puts everyone on a relatively even playing field. Also, it would enrich pve content by making you actually think rather than mindlessly “stack and dps”.

Without Vigor, skills like Roll for Initiative and Withdraw would be way too strong. Not to mention that we have things like Signet of Stamina that would end up just about replacing Vigor. Not only that, but there are tons of skills, traits and utilities whose primary function is Vigor or evades, so you would have to rework all of those.

As for Stability, without Stability, CCs would be the supreme king. DPS wouldn’t matter for crap in PvP because everyone would be getting CC’ed to death. And then you would be forced to rework pretty much all skills that have CC on them.

So I don’t really see what would change. Mind explaining?

The thing is, your chosen weapons limit your damage quite a bit, as you will want to have Merciless Hammer, but that’s 20 points into Defense.

If you want more damage, you should consider taking 20 from Tactics to Arms and grabbing Unsuspecting Foe (50% crit on stun, very nice with Earthshaker) and Blademaster (10% crit for sword).

Personally I found that my personal favorite offhand with a Sword is Axe. Gives that little extra Fury and tons of adrenaline with Whirling Axe.

Can we change Adrenal Health's function?

in Warrior

Olba.5376

BP should be replaced with…

Gain Might for every bar of adrenaline spent…
either 5 stacks for 1s…3s…7s
or 1…3…5 stacks for 10s

This follows the idea that warriors should spend adrenaline, not sit on it.

HF should change to

Gain Fury for every bar of adrenaline spent…
Fury for 2s…4s…8s…

I have to say, I prefer this idea over the others. Personally, I don’t use either of the traits, so I wouldn’t be losing any damage, but the PvE dungeon meta builds would, since they’re already at 25 stacks of Might and near-permanent Fury.

Thus, those meta builds would lose out completely. In fact, you could bet your kitten that the meta would shift to something like 20/20/0/10/20 or so.

Personally, as someone who lives and dies with my constant burst spam, I’d welcome such a change.

What about just flat +%dmg (BP) and +%crit. chance (HF) without any adrenaline at all? Lower values of course. I think this could work, they are grandmaster traits after all.

Considering that we have minor traits for 10% more crit for bursts and 10% damage on bleeding foes, I don’t know.

Devs could add more damage to burst skills (or make them more useful). Then they can make BP and HF only to effect burst skills:
BP: Burst skill has 5%/10%/15% more damage while 1/2/3 bars of adrenaline.
HF: Burst skill has 5%/10%/15% more critical chance while 1/2/3 bars of adrenaline

I have to say no to both of those. Burst Mastery already gives +damage% to bursts. And we know what happened to Discipline the last time we had tons of +damage% on burst.

As for the Heightened Focus, there’s already a minor trait at 15 points into Arms that gives 10% crit to bursts, at all times.

A topic about stealth stomping again?

Let’s just go with the usual note. You can also do an uninterruptible stomp using

  • Stability
  • Mist Form
  • Invulnerable
  • Blind

And pretty much all classes have access to one or more of those.

Heck, you eliminate stealth stomping, you’ll still get pwned 1v1 due to blind on stealth or Black Powder.

Also, you have to think about what the stomping does. It’s a 3 second channel with a very obvious animation. It’s basically a big neon sign going “Attack me now!”. Most classes have the means to stomp safely, or have access to other measures of surviving. Stealth, on the other hand, is key to Thief survival. Well, you either build for stealth or you build for evades, and guess which one of those is completely out-of-the-question for stomping.

Also, if you ask me, Thieves being able to stomp from stealth makes sense. Thieves don’t have much in terms of team utility, they’re mostly about the bursts they bring. So having them able to not only down you easily, but to stomp you easily makes sense. Because that’s all they’re good at.

Can we change Adrenal Health's function?

in Warrior

Posted by: Olba.5376

Olba.5376

Good suggestion but I think Adrenal Health works nicely as it is. It’s one of the few really good minor traits.

The best way to supplement Adrenal Health is to have traits that increase your Adrenaline flow. Cleansing Ire, Sharpened Axes, Furious, Berserkers Might, and Burst Mastery. In PvP I use Cleansing Ire, Furious, and Berserker’s Stance, and I regain my Adrenaline very quickly.

The function of AH is fine. The function of Berserkers Power/Heightened Focus is not fine.

I agree, I love Adrenal Health, however it doesn’t really go well with our current abilities.

You get more healing from going full offensive and less healing going defensive… it makes no sense.

If it was a ‘5’ point trait I would be fine with it, because I could go 30/0/5/0/30, however it isn’t.

What i’m suggesting is to change its function, so its better with our current tree. We should be rewarded for using our burst, not punished.

Come on.

Adrenal Health is a minor trait. It’s not supposed to be a build defining trait, so stop trying to make it into one.

Adrenal Health does go well with our abilities, assuming that you’re actually going to take it. After all, if it doesn’t go well with Warriors, then neither do Berserker’s Power and Heightened Focus, but those are currently part of the “meta” PvE build.

If you want to reward Warriors for using adrenaline, you need to start from reworking Berserker’s Power and Heightened Focus, which are god kitten meta defining traits instead of dillydallying around trying to bully your way into free health regen for your current meta build.

I removed the healing amount from it because honestly its insignificant, the developers would make the healing, when I added it I put down the max I would make it, not what I wanted it to be.

I replaced it with X so the idea would get more attention then the heal amount itself.

I also wanted to fix some misconceptions to the idea as well, when I said “Gain health when you gain a strike of adrenaline” It doesn’t exactly have an internal cool-down, but signet of precision and Healing Surge will only heal for one proc, not 30 of them, that would just be silly and go against the idea of actually taking traits that give you strikes of adrenaline.

The biggest issue I see is that there’s just too big of a gap between the lowest and highest amount of adrenaline usage.

For example, some people prefer not to use their adrenaline and rather take bonuses from Heightened Focus or Berserker’s Power. For those kind of people, this change would be massive, as they wouldn’t be able to benefit from Adrenal Health at all.

On the other side of the spectrum are people like myself. I have 76% crit rate, I run with both Sharpened Axes and Furious. On a typical boss, it takes me about 4 seconds to go from Eviscerating all of my adrenaline to having a full bar again. If it stopped here, it would be all good. But I can just as easily swap my weapon to, for example, Sword/Axe, where I could use Flurry and Whirling Axe, going again from maxed adrenaline to 0 to maxed within seconds. And by the time all of this is done, I can swap weapons again, restarting the cycle.

We’re talking spending and gaining 3 bars of adrenaline once every 5 seconds as the other opposite of the spectrum.

You just cannot balance it properly with the options that we have. Either the extreme adrenaline gain builds get overpowered or you end up with a trait that is too weak without such a setup.

For me…
Champion of the Gods: 49/50 is in the first slot.
Hint Completion is in the second slot.

Neither of these can I complete as:
1) I no longer play GW1
2) I have used up all 5 of my Character slots with L80 characters so unless ANet decides to give me 3 more slots for free, I don’t think I should have to PAY to complete.

So that leaves me with one useable spot left in Nearly Completed.

Maybe a Hide/Unhide toggle would solve the issue.

Lastly, not sure if Historical Achievements show up in Nearly Completed or not but if they are no longer available, they should be excluded.

What does a new character have to do with hint completion? You can have a level 80 character and still not received all the hints. Check the hint window to see what you’re missing. My last one was the hint for full mailbox.

Profession specific hints.

No, don’t make it heal on burst. It’s in a good state right now. This trait is a trade off trait, you can have more sustain or have burst. If every single skill of warriors are tied to a single burst they would be godkitten awful to play as a class.

In this case move Berserker power and heightened focus to minor 15, bc it is a good tradeoff. Inst it?

So you want Fast Hands to be a Grandmaster Trait? You can bet it would kitten off much more people than when they moved Heightened Focus and Berserker’s Power to Grandmaster.
