While I understand that injury slows a person down, I also think that snare conditions represent those sorts of injuries.

I think perhaps ways to disengage from combat effects being built into abilities should exist, such as many abilities with swiftness, stun breaks, pet commands, etc. on some select level.

Don’t forget utility infusion slots, as long as they keep combat stats out of it.

Also on the subject of legendaries… they used to have the same stats as exotics as well. If the subject’s about what ascended should’ve/could’ve been, it would affect what legendaries should’ve/could’ve been updated to match.

Players who don’t have all the time in the world not having a gear disadvantage in wvw is a real concern for them. You can say it’s not required all you want but in the end when one player has a handicap over another in direct competition it has imbalanced consequences.

WvW may not be intended to be balanced in the first place and currently it isn’t. There’s no reason to make that imbalance grow even quicker.

I do think ascended is a logical step to make gear progression very slow through small baby steps with the infusions, but the initial step from exotic to ascended isn’t is in no way a small step. It will have a significant impact for many months to come. It may get better after that, but the future is still cloudy.

I’m seeing two schools of thought behind the arguments on each side. There’s a discrepancy between those who want wvw to represent the legacy of their server’s hard work, strength, and experience versus those who just want a fair, perpetual pvp experience on a grand scale. Anet’s current design greatly favors the first. Over time, many months when ascended has settled in place, the two philosophies might see a little more eye to eye, but right now they are in contention.

Of course, this could all be made less dramatic if Anet would lighten up the godawful grind to ascended. Arguably, most of Anet’s demographic probably came to GW2 with WoW as their big mmo experience. WoW has level and gear progression to grind with every expansion… but by the time you hit max level for each expansion you can afford at least on of their max level pvp sets from battlegrounds and not be far from getting the premium set from arena points. in WPvP, the closest experience it had to WvW, this is a very competitive set with exception to maybe one or two pve cooldown pieces. Anet lead people in to believing GW2 would eliminate the grind, and all they did what make it worse with ascended gear. A lot worse. Unbelievably worse. Holy hell is it worse. BLTC inflation, terrible rewards with ridiculously unfavorable probability for anything useful making it even more dauntingly worse. My point is, there’s a lot of core issues making Ascended gear unrealistic for some people more than others.

… Well enough rambling. I’ve been watching a movie while typing so idk where this is going. xD

Act with wisdom, but act.

Tarnished Coast has the best carnished toast. We have an RP community as others have mentioned, but I’d also say the non-roleplay community is also the best around. It’s a fairly “jack-of-all-trades” server in that it isn’t THE best at PvE, WvW, or PvP, but it has strong representation in each. Leveling here is also about as good as it gets. I’ve never experienced a deserted zone of any level.

Being judgmental and profiling people is completely inappropriate and is very distasteful.

Any context where anyone would dress in such an elaborate, sophisticated outfit that is also that bold you’d probably immediately understand that it’s part of a production. GW2 makes annoyingly inefficient use of hardware. From your descriptions I’m highly doubting it’s your internet at all. Is your internet staying connected (websites, email, etc.) when you get disconnected from Guild Wars 2?

Do you hav a video card? Most popular games I’ve found can be handled by graphics controllers in your CPU, so the absence of a video card won’t be obvious unless you’re fully familiar with your computer’s hardware specifications.

Simple solution to the personal story… make it unavailable until you choose an order. When you race change, remove the personal story of your character and get rid of the quests, keeping only your order. Cultural armor could be changed to the new race’s of the same tier.

It’s not something I’d ever invest in personally, at least not likely anyways. I just think it’s not as complicated as people make it out to be. There’s point in trying to convert someone’s personal story from one race to another. Just 86 it.

“RNG complaint post, Week 96: random is still random.”

Fairly certain the OP didn’t throw 200 greatswords into the toilet because he thought it was the recipe for something. He knows what rng is. His complaint is that the odds of getting anything of any remote value seems abysmal. Getting other peoples’ experiences is a way of gathering statistics, to paint a broader picture of just how abysmally low the probability of getting anything of value is beyond his own experience.

The thing is, the rng doesn’t randomly generate just any number, there is a high and a low. Computers cannot generate infinite possibilities. Therefore, the chances of getting a specific number is 1/x, not 1/?. Thus, we can deduce that the odds of getting something could potentially be figured out through statistics. Granted, the sample you’ll get from a forum is small, but so far the consensus indicates that the chances are abysmally low.

Some people would go on to voice an opinion on just what abysmally low means, that it’s unjustly low, unfairly low, inexcusably low, and so on.

Condition vs Power/crit problem

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Oniyui.8279

Oniyui.8279

Condition alone is as bad as power alone, you need cond duration to make sure the damage will be on the target and to get big bleeding/torment stacks, also you need to be able to re-apply conds constantly (or because target is cleaning it or the duration) and most condition need crit% to proc.

Besides all that, condition damage is only useful if you are alone, if another player is also causing condition damage they are pretty much canceling each other, while with power they only add.

EDIT: But I agree that make defensive builds using cond damage is easier and more effective.

They created the whole problem when they put in Dire and decided you can have full tank and spank without having to sacrifice anything.

The problem has been here since launch and it is a big problem.

There is a reason why condition builds dominate amongst roamers and duelers, because they only have to invest into 3 attribute lines as opposed to 4/5.

1. Condition damage
2. toughess
3. vitality (or healing)

VS

1. power
2. precision
3. crit damage
4. toughness
5. vitality (or healing).

Condition duration really doesn’t count since there are so many ways to spam conditions (bleed on crit, etc). You can get a massive 40% boost from pizza which would be the equivalent of something like a +300 precision, +30% crit damage food for power.

Bleed on crit you say?

Regen actually scales really well with healing power… I do think it should scale better for other healing abilities but as far as regen goes I’ve never had issue with how it performs. Just don’t expect to tank damage on regen alone.

Don’t expect to tank anything at all. ANet broke tanking twofold. first off they removed any semblance of aggro control. Second they added spiky damage that you need to use some kind of in game mechanic to avoid rather than passive stats, as they will overwhelm even the highest of stat combos.

All in all, GW2 is more action game than RPG.

By tanking damage, I meant to imply not tanking aggro control, just all the tools a traditional tank use to survive damage. Apologies if that was unclear.

GW2 Becoming P2W

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Oniyui.8279

Oniyui.8279

Actually, putting the t3 human cultural in the gem store is perfectly consistent with a typical vertical progression game like GW2.

In a horizontal progression game uniqueness and exclusivity are generally reserved for gear skins. The high-end skins are what take the most grind and/or effort. But as of November 2012 GW2 officially became a vertical progression game. And as such, it’s not the look of your gear that matters, but the stats on them. High-end gear is now defined by MAX stats, NOT by unique appearance.

And while it’s true that in games like WoW or LotRO (and now GW2) max stat gear typically also has unique skins as well, it’s also true that the appearance of that gear is merely a secondary reward soon to be rendered meaningless whenever the next tier of max stat gear is introduced.

So given that GW2 is in no way unique to the MMO genre, and merely represents the latest incarnation of typical vertical progression games, offering popular skins in the gem store is perfectly in-line with the games new (but traditional) philosophy.

OP, “Pay to Win” in this game, just like WoW, would be the introduction of higher-stat based gear in the gem store. What you’re thinking of is a horizontal progression game, but that’s not GW2.

They never put a reskinned HT3 set on the gem store, they put a reskinned HT3 skins set on the gem store. It did not come with HT3 stats. It was something you applied to your gear to keep your gear’s stats with the HT3 appearance. This is how skins work in GW2.

Also, WoW doesn’t have any P2W content in its core development levels. It’s P2P, which means you pay to play… at all. The only P2W content they have is at pvp brackets where one person’s expansion may be inferior to another’s. Additionally, they sell mounts and non-combat, non-battle pets for real world currency.

Horizontal progression is also unrelated to gear. Horizontal progression is using your character, without progressing in levels or stats, to continue battling through new content releases. Vertical progression ends at 80 with ascended gear.

Now, there has been vertical progression implemented in fractals with the new agony mechanics. At least… it seems that way.

Still, none of it is P2W

Now, when ANet puts a leaderboard in the Black Lion Trade for who has the most gold… trololololol

Have you no concern for the affected? The problem is not your fictional “exclusivity” (I actually agree in that I don’t think Flamekissed should have been T3 model-based in the first place), but that the current solution is a)a bait and switch and b)players will lose the look of their old armor, even those Human characters who transmuted their previous, REAL T3.

This doesn’t concern me, but it’s obvious when something is wrong, and you don’t wrong people to appease other people who only think they’ve been wronged, but never actually were. This forum-pleasing solution is much worse than the perceived problem in the first place.

Again-restore pre-skinned armors, along with refund. Nothing else would work, and I myself would consider stopping playing if a Support representative told me I was only going to be given a gem refund, especially if I trashed my expensive T3 skin in the process of getting this “new” skin.

So agree.

THANK YOU for your post.

Except, well, support representatives never told anyone they were only going to get a gem refund, and never told anyone they wouldn’t get their old armor skins back.

You’re just adding fuel to the fire. I can understand why people are upset. I don’t understand why people are spreading rumors and creating needless panic about how their refunds will work.

It’s a digital world where nothing’s set in stone. It’s as easy as editing a forum post. There’s no reason ANet wouldn’t be able to restore anything you previously had, especially given that it’s so recent.

If you used a credit card you should be able to get your credit back. If you used a gem card or gift card that’d be about the only complication that would prevent you from getting your money back.

I wish you all the best of luck in getting the best of support.

Anet has never said the refund would be in gems, they said it would be through contacting their customer service. There’s obviously a lot of complicated issues players are going to have going into processing their refund beyond the 800 gems, and so far Anet has shown that they are listening, it’s not out of the question that they’ll refund the $$ to gems, recover destroyed armor/xmutes, etc. The only complication I could see coming up is for getting a credit refund is if you used a gift card or redemption code to get your gems.

I wish everyone luck. Have patience. Voice your issue so that it’s heard, but have patience.

Thank you Anet for listening.

Multi-functionality weapons class: Elementalist (attunements)/Engineer (toolkit)

What a golemancy class could have to fill those roles:

Golem minions
Golem suits
… innability to swap weapons due to heavy armor having integrated golemancy compatibility augmentations.

I think the elephant in the room here is WoW. I hate to bring it up but it is essentially the comparison being made, even if it hasn’t been mentioned yet.

The reason people say there’s no endgame is because they miss WoW endgame content, especially the early days before Blizz did something they didn’t like, and they bought GW2 blindly thinking it’d be a WoW replacer. GW2 developers were pretty clear on what they hoped to deliver, especially on what they wanted to set them apart from other MMOs.

Oniyui.8279

Every weapon, for every class, should have either a field, a finisher or both depending on the circumtances (does it makes sense, is the weapon 1h or 2h etc)

I disagree. Combo fields and finishers add a layer of complexity in making your build, and shouldn’t be handed to every build freely. A player has to decide how they want to get combos or if they’re even going to use combos, weighing the advantages and disadvantages of each choice.

Plus… the sheer amount of combos going off if everybody was laying fields and finishers would be ridiculous, and make thoughtful use of combos obsolete. They would just be thoughtlessly spammed for just being off cooldown, and connect anyways. Not to mention classes that do rely on and utilize combos as core of their utility, like elementalists, would get more overshadowed by classes that rely on them less, such as necromancers and guardians.

If you want combos, make the appropriate build decisions to gain access to them.

On the point about making combo tutorials… that I definitely agree on. Or just make it part of the daily regularly so people will try to figure it out to complete that.

ELEtism

in Elementalist

Posted by: Oniyui.8279

Oniyui.8279

Well, i disagree to an extent. I’m talking more along the lines of wvw. A full dire geared ele, with d/d, is pretty amazing. I can apply every condition available except for fear using runes/sigils.. give me 3 seconds and ill load you up with more condis than a necro could dream of. and i can reapply them really fast, every 10s.

Now, probably matching a necros output of condis, i also have more healing, much much more mobility, and 20k health with 3k armor. condi eles do exist, and theyre good, dont put them down. if youve done a s/d-f condi ele, youve done it wrong obviously.

There is no way you have ever played a necro and make that statement. It is impossible for a elementalist to match a condition necros output. Engineers and Necro’s are on another level when it comes to condi pressure. Necro’s have a signet with 6 conditions 5 with a base duration of 10 secs and 1 condition that lasts for 5(blind). Every rune or sigil you can put on necro can put on and necro’s condition duration trait line is pretty good and their condition damage line is pretty awesome unlike eles earth and fire lines.

I play both classes though ele is my main I can kill people in less than 10 seconds on my condition necro and that burst is back ready again easily in another 15 seconds.

^ This. Exactly this.

@ Game Slayer: As I said, condi ele’s can’t hope to match condi <insert other class here>, so don’t even try. Ele’s have good burst, so capitalize on that. This is talking PvP/WvW, since it seems you agree with me that condi ele in PvE is simply ridiculous.

Condi ele in pve is redundant. dont you dare under-estimate a condi ele in wvw. in spvp its simply o-kay.

Im on borlis pass, so , if its possible, ill duel anyone who thinks condi ele is bad. ive won the last 98/100 duels, all from different people. (ofc i BS’ed the number, but i cant honestly recall the last time i lost in a 1v1)

But if you say a condi ele in wvw is bad…. or cant do what im telling you it can do… you havent tried hard enough with the build… nor have you seen a condi ele.

You are using perplexity runes. Prepare the oncoming kitten from ele’s that died from perplexity.

oh. LOL. i could have any rune in there. confusion is like a cover condi.

The torment sigil has its own ICD atm I believe so you could use another on crit sigil and they wouldn’t affect each o ther. Depending on how hard perplexity is nerfed I may try scavenger runes or orrian.

but its AoE and i often get two torment stacks due to 7scd and condi duration. its definately a cover condi, no doubt, but it helps a lot. consider it the other sigil is doom btw, which isnt a on crit sigil, so its not shared. you could use geomancy, whatever floats your boat

on crits share ICD with swap sigils

This could actually explain a “bug” I’ve been experiencing…

Oh well. Guess I have something to test out now.
