The forums are about the worst place to look for opinions on a game.

- General look at the forums gives a very good impression at both the community and quality of game. What are they talking about? Is there excited discussion about the game or are the players criticizing faults of the game? How much are the developers responding and what kind of answers are they giving?

I tend to disagree with your statement. The population sample is significantly skewed. People who post on the forums are people that want to voice something.

In my personal experience, people are far more likely to feel the need to voice qualms than contentment or joy. It’s as if qualms have a way of prompting people. It’s not even that the game’s full of negativity, it’s just full of activity.

That the forum is active with complaints and suggestions is also misleading. You cannot always tell if the criticism is out of dissatisfaction with the game or coming from someone who loves the game and just wants to nurture it with new ideas and/or fight for representation in their favorite part of the game. Or it could even be that there’s a thousand things about the game they love and one thing they don’t, they don’t feel a need to write about the thousand things they love.

Any chance we’ll ever see more of these for sale? Would love to get Destiny’s Edge announcers, or Scarlet or Faolin or Taimi or anybody, really. Just anything to swap in place of the default announcer.

It’s such an easy sell, too. Look at the success of announcer packs in Dota 2.

If it's not a thing anymore, get rid of it..

Last time I checked both NA and EU ToL 2 winners had 2 engis. If stacking engineers is balanced then I don’t know what to say.

Class stacking = imbalance in my opinion. Because obviously nobody will use 2 of the same class if its garbage. People will stack the overpowered one.

Source?

From what I saw NA didn’t stack anything and the EU finals saw 2 guardians stack and cheese mode’s 2 ele 2 war 1 engi comp

I’d like to see a 5v5 tri-lane map and a 3v3 dual-lane map with minions, towers, roaming jungle with small objectives, like a MOBA. Kill for tokens to purchase siege, jungle for resources to build siege, something like that. Could be Skritt minions vs Hylek minions or something along those lines.

If you want to play MOBAs why did you buy an MMO?

Same reason I enjoy king of the hill pvp games and bought an mmo.

There’s actually quite a few genres I’m into, silly kitten. GW2 just seems like it’d meld well with the moba format and bring some much more intense combat to the equation. There’s a lot of elements of mobas in wvw, too, just waiting to be expanded on.

A shave to celestial might stacking

in PvP

Oniyui.8279

Celestial’s in a good place IMO. Ferocity could use a slight buff to make up for some of what crit damage was lost in the spring feature patch (which significantly hurt the dps of celestial while raising its survivability via normalizing all the stats – crit damage was way high on it, right up with zerker)

As for might, personally I think the maximum stacks for it on players, as well as stacks of conditions on players, is too high.

at least that’s where I’d go to tinker with nerfs.

Cheese comp… lol. Cheese implies using a minimal effort pattern repeatedly to defeat opponents regularly identified as vulnerable to that pattern, and depending on that pattern. Celestial bunker… is like the opposite of cheese. Zerker rotation-oriented builds… now there’s where to look for cheese.

Lol , nice joke thx for the laugh.

If you don’t know the meaning of cheese don’t use it. Not every meta/OP build is cheese. A build would literally have to run minimal defensive stats and rely on a burst rotation, be it zerker or a condi build, to be even considered for the title. They also often consist of heavy CC and lock players out while they’re being burst down making them great for cheesing noobs and a narrow range of builds with impunity.

The term originated in classic arcade fighting games where players would cheese their friends by repeating the same move or combo repeatedly to win, knowing their friends were inexperienced button mashers that would have to get extremely lucky to stop them.

Communicating with you

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Oniyui.8279

Oniyui.8279

I know some are concerned about whether ArenaNet is communicating with you and listening and responding to your feedback. As you saw with yesterday’s announcement, we do. All of us at ArenaNet play the game with you, chat with you and read your forum posts, and work on the things that we think will most delight and entertain you.

We’ve set a clear policy in the past year: we don’t talk speculatively about future development. We don’t want to string you along. Creating fun is an uncertain business: sometimes things work out and sometimes they don’t; sometimes we go back to the drawing board over and over before we get something right. If we make optimistic promises and then can’t deliver on them, everyone suffers. So when we attend a trade show or give an interview, we’re there to talk about what we’re getting ready to ship, not to speculate on what we might ship someday.

Don’t read that as meaning that we don’t want to talk with you about the longer-term roadmap. The intention of the CDI threads is to talk with you about the roadmap. We want to talk design philosophy with you and hear how you want to see the game evolve. When those discussions trigger development, we’ll work internally until we have something we’re proud of before we’ll announce it.

A lot of the questions I’ve seen posted this week are as simple as this: does ArenaNet have an agenda to never do something? That’s almost never the case, and if it is the case you deserve to know and we’ll make sure we get more clear. In general the simple truth is this: when we’re not currently working on something, it’s because we’re working on something else instead that we think is more important for the game and community.

Our developers post on these forums on a voluntary basis, and in addition to developers, we have a community team who can clarify and be the bridge between players and developers. They’re ready to engage you on these topics. And I know it’s hard for the community team to engage players across all the forums and sites where these questions are being discussed, so I’m going to support the team in consolidating and focusing as necessary, so that we can be clear to the community where you can go to get a response.

See you in-game,
Mike O’Brien

If I tried to make posts like this to solve my relationships ruined by playing too many video games… well, I guess I can’t knock it ’til I try it.

Addressing a misconception about AP

GW1 = more build diversity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Forcing players to cut skills from their build and make choices neither strips diversity nor creates simplicity. Developers streamlining abilities into fewer core choices for each profession eliminates redundancy.

There’s still a ton of complexity and diversity that players fail to recognize.

Comparing 10k+ to 4k+ AP is a pretty ridiculous metric. Both players have the necessary experience. If you’re looking for someone who knows all the tricks of the speed running trade, make a guild for it. If you’re looking for players that farm all the AP boosting events they can, make a guild for it. If you’re looking for players that can bust up a zerg in wvw, make a guild for it. If you’re looking for players that do all 3, expect mistakes and don’t be a kitten about it.

I’d say hang in there and wait for the new living story to kick in. The boss grind will be gone and people will likely have events they’ll enjoy a couple times rather than spending all their time repeating for tokens, and then they’ll hop back into wvw.

Though, the tournament meta achievements definitely bring in a lot more people.

5 – 30% chance of getting supply from looting players & caravans.
12 – Renew weapon buff duration when harvesting plants.
30 – 60% chance of getting supply from logging & mining.
60 – 60% chance of getting supply from looting players & caravan dolyaks.
100 – Renew food buff duration when harvesting plants.
150 – 100% chance of getting supply from logging, mining, looting players & looting caravan dolyaks.

Ruining the Fantasy of Abilities

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Oniyui.8279

Anti-Cheese Mechanics are Ruining the Fantasy of Abilities

In particular, the mechanics I’m referring to are the strict patching of blink-style abilities and invisible walls protecting enemy npcs from being knocked off a cliff. These types of things, imo, ruin the fun of abilities when you just want to have a chuckle or try something a little too awesome.

Regarding jump puzzles being made too easy from improved blink mechanics’ pathing, I don’t think it would ruin them much. Made up data has shown that 37% of players just take portals from mesmers anyways, up 12% from the last survey. Engineers are already using their rifle to make awkward-looking jumps that they can’t get a good camera angle on, as well as skipping a few jumps here and there.

Battling NPCs and using blinks to escape to high ground wouldn’t break fights, imo. Besides, it would be an insignificant amount of fights you’d break with it, and big boss fights could always obnoxiously reset if someone’s fighting where a boss just cannot get to them.

EOTM bridge toll keepers could be made less susceptible to knockback abilities with a bit of stability and possibly moving them… not that it matters though since recently fabricated studies show that 92% of the time it’s just a karma train world anyways.

So, Anet, please let us launch unfortunate baddies off cliffs and blink up ledges and over gaps! There’s so much lost fun to be had!

Now, I post this in the forums for discussion purposes. What are your thoughts on these mechanics, as a player?

in WvW

Posted by: Oniyui.8279

EotM is a beautiful competitive map with fantastic competitive mechanics that are wasted on karma trains that completely ignore and discourage anything that would get in the way of exploiting their easy rewards system.

Anet should just make a Facebook game that links to your gw2 account and provides lavish rewards for minimal work, with a little avatar to display the fancy clothes you earn.

Then when half the zerg that was only in it for the easy and efficient farm leaves, perhaps rework the rewards of EotM so there’s rewards for holding ground & for winning.

edit: also worth considering… mirroring the map in spvp for a larger scale spvp format. For siege… use the existing resource nodes for gathering a currency to purchase siege with.

The only change I don’t understand is making trait start at lvl 30 instead of 10, and ridiculously slowly acquired after that. It was already hard enough getting new players acclimated to gw2 coming from other games, & this is another setback to those of us trying to pull new friends into the game. It’s really rather upsetting that they went that route.

Everything else, I’m happy with… a little miffed about the awkward megaservers interfering with community but willing to see where it goes from here.

People were annoyed that once they got a character to 30 there was nothing to look forward to until maxing. Now they give us some progression after 30 people are complaining about that. The trait change is fine if you really think about it.

They didn’t give any progression after 30, they just pushed progression we already had back to 30.

On top of that, leveling characters have to repeat progress they’ve already made. Not as big an issue as making the start of the game’s progress slow to new players, but still tedious.

No, leave them how it is.. do you know how many times a Warrior has placed his banners right on top of a stack and i have had to pick it up and move it to the side because it makes ressing people (or picking up the cultist hammer in Frac) incredibly annoying when you got banners stuck on top of you.. ! Too many times to count !! (Even when you tell them not to place it on the stack but to the side)

Although I’m against the proposed change… this reason’s just bad. If they made it so you couldn’t interact with the banner then it wouldn’t give you any more trouble.
