Glad you enjoy the Mesmer, yes its alot to it and its alot of different moves and outs we got. For shatters there are endless of variations with diferent skill combos + cc,s to use. Bets is just experement alot.
A good start thu is to know how to do “the perfect burst”. When you know this its just to chnage things after situation to better work for the situation.
Some times its better to do a “haflf burst” or even a fake burst (leap + blade but not shatter) to trick the enemy to use survival skills.

I always stress that my oppinions in my only and not the absolute truth, if you founda way to use phantasm sec in a mobile way in wvwvw gratulations, in my oppinion phantasm spec is strong in wvwvw but unpractical as its not felxible enought. It simply take o long time to move the power and as soon the numbers fluctate its strength fade. Shatter are more effective in fast bursts on smal or big groups in my oppinion, and alot more moble spec. In wvwvw romaing mobility is everything.
@Fadeaway, Staff is what keep me alive while roaming, in the dmg/support spec I drop my perosnla survival and let the mass of ppl around me keep me alive plus more defensive stats. For solo/smal team roaming staff is ALOT more mobile and thats is core of effective roaming. It was not the dmg loss that hit D/D eles so hard for roaming by the latest patch, it was the mobility loss. As it look now, a cd lowered staff mesmer can blink every 8 sec, ad normal blink + some skilled use of terrain and sword leap + stealth and you practicly impossible to catch.
@Hikittenshi, make sure you use daze shatter firts if you specced into domination, this add big % dmg. What make the shatter burst is teh combination of crit dmg and % bonus dmg So you need to stack % dmg skills, voulnebility, 3% dmg/clone, 20% dmg on mindwrack. Then stack % crit dmg on top of this. 50% is spvp stats, still you should get alot more than 1,2k mw crit. Consider your crit dmg in wvwvw can be up to 105% without drop to much survival corectly geared.

@Sebrent, As it look now you see the phantasm mesmers mainly in 1 vs 1 arenas in spvp. This is for 2 reaosns,
1: They are close to unbeatebal especialy after fortressed up aka have 3 phantasm up, and the new on cd.
2:This is the only enviorment they this effective. As soon the fight turns to bigger numbers the focus skills of the phantams get less and less effective. This is the reason you not often see them in wvwvw.
I Think that equaly skilled there phantams mesmer win in close to 90-100% of the cases.
This make the spec WERY hard for the developers to balance. Wth intruduction of spectators and custom arenas we now have a spvp 1 vs 1 arena population. In this its get more and more obious that phatasms mesmes are in the top tier of effectivity. But still how do devs balance this without make the spec who is rather uneffective in other parts of the game even less effective? And phantasms are used by the shatter specces aswell, how do you balance 1 vs 1 phantams effectivity without weaken the rather balanced shatter builds? Time will show, mabye Anet dont even thik there is a need to balance phantasm in 1 sv 1 as thats not a inteded part of the game. Join some 3 vs 3 arenas kittenter and feel the joy!

@Hookerjack, as Zen said, just change the 20% cd on blink to 3 % less dmg / clone, have a gs in bags and change to berzerker grear.
@Knackykanve, In 1 vs 1 wvwvw as I guess we discussing here I had duel alot of this players. Generaly its about neglect the effectivity of their ranged attacks and force em to go mele. Reflection shield, staff decoy and massinvis let you put a steady preassure and avoid most incomming dmg. If they super tanky they cant range kill you and will go mele where you can preasure harder. If they berzerkers you can kill the pets, first 1 then the other. whne both down preassure the ranger to max. Also dont use focus, you need the sword block from oh sword for the extra dmg.
In wvwvw bigger fights focus ther targets first, then a few ppl gank up on the ranger.
In 1 vs 1 spvp arenas use phantasm spec, its the dominating effetivity spec for any class in here. In spvp not 1 vs 1 focus other ppl first then mark the ranger for kill.

@Zen, I so understand why you love to command in te Mist spec, as you say, the Mist mesmer is wery hard to kill. I prefere the earring as it work for al builds, if you want to go heavy setup with a oh sword and 2 chavalier rings you suddenly almost a tank, if yo want to go 2 zerker rings for instances you still have a nice amount of passive survival etc. But as said, this is just my oppinion everyone is free to experement as mutch as you want with the build and noting make me more happy than when somone change stuff and fin a better way to do things.

@Fadeaway, The phantasms will always die fast or get shattered, the bigger the fight the faster they die so the regeneration thrait is more a little bonus if it proc. The phantasm i want 1 attack out of but as they in mele range often a fast shatter can in many cases be more beneficial. This go for al shatter spec in group combat.
The curtain reflection is a flexebility option for the build. in the fights on the vid we in al cases are agressors towards a team we wery early force down so there is no reason to let the curtain be up for long times, better get a sec or 2 reflect and then a knockdown, but the option is for a siege or more static situation to drop the curtan to defen the team for a loonger time. Same if we retreatig.
So What do we gain from inspiration that I realy want in the build?
20% less cd on 2 glamour skills, Feedback and Nullfield/portal. 20% less cd on temporal curtan for knockdown speed boost, mass cripple and situational reflection. Iwarden(phantasm) 20% less cd. 200 vitality (opening for knights gear instead of valkyre), retaliation on phantasms.
Most of this is group utilitys and making the build more beneficial for group play, if the build had been a smal team setup there is alot options who is more beneficial but when the lagg kicks in and the whole screen suddenly turns red at a battle in bay the option to kick in 2 glamours, mass blind and keep reflection up the the best you can do for your team.
The blinds trait is not the strongerst in smal encounters but when your team get ruched by a organiced team of 15-20 players 2-3 players spamming blind fields and glamours lift a HUGE amount of preassure, this is extra notable if you GvG some in 10 vs 10 or 15 vs 15.
I guess the video dont realy show this part but it was more made to precent the ability setup, not the teamplay in it self.

On side of that, yes 6 clone work but now as a dmg multipler, what he mean with the combo is that the fist clones hit and cause vulnebility, nect shatter hit a target for extra dmg. Alot like the classic "perfect burst* used by 20-20-0-0-30 spec in close range.

@Moinomutante, I have a new build incomming, hardtetsing it atm and so fair its pure love for group fighting. Its a support dps build with GS and some more, superb dmg, tagging and survival. Also extremly focused on be good for the group (no solo glory build, we already have Mist for that). I release more info in short.
The condi gear, save it. Im sure Anet in the balancing cykle will some day buff our condition builds to viable lvls compared to direct dmg.
@JollyApple, This is how I use the builds atm:
Solo roaming / roaming with pugs: Mist
Roaming with tanky guild group & Pve instances: Phantasm hybrid
Roaming with mele team or with glascannons:*Heavy**Mist*
Spvp: *Original**Mist*
Tpvp:*Heavy**Hybrid*
Note thu, most of my builds dont need you to change gear (its inteded as its kitten stressfull to respec/regear for everything you doing, just change a few triats, utilitys and weps in most cases) This will be the case for the new build incomming aswell. It will fill a hole in my Shatter Cat builds, bigger group fights 10-15+

@Raiz, for 20 vs 20 when not playing glamour I in the past favoured shatter cat heavy and stay in the mele train. For zerg vs zerg when not play with guildes I took the role of thef/rogue and helped em pick of weak players.
Now to your question thu, what to fill the role of the glamour mesmers range dps for group fights, I do experementing with a spec for this, its a direct dmg GS spec and I so far like it alot, It also have good group fighting utilitys, using feedback/reflections + mass blind enemy teams. I will give more nfo later on this.
Gs is a wery good range weapon.
For torch I have tested it, it was a weapon of choice in my first shatter condition build, I think it has potensial but the image need to be looked at. If it instead of cast nerfed confusion could cast a 1 sec stun or a 2 sec immobelise it would fit perfect into several different builds. Not al our offhands need to do major dmg to be usefull, more interesting if they let the tortch be a utility/controll weapon, the fact mage cast confusion show this light been Anets idea but as confusion is weak as it look now better give image a controll attack.

@Dkzombie, this as phantams spec are at its max effectivity when you got 3 phantasms up and can controll a peace of land, almst every attack is single target aswell. In wvwvw in a roaming team you sudenly need to change position long distances, a shatter spec can be at max effectivity in a few seconds instant as we jump out of a portal or change plane. There is no rampup of the burst.
Also if you fight a nice 2 vs 2 and suddenly jumped and it turns to a 4 vs 2 the fight get alot more chaotic, especialy with target drips, phantasm hit stuff left and right while you kittenter focus one target but your aoe everything else.
Same reason a phantasm build is better in spvp the lesser ppl you fight, its close to unbeatebal in duels 1 vs 1 in spvp, but in a mass 10 vs 10 spvp game its alot less effecive.
This is just my personal oppinion thu, feel free to dissagree.

@Cell, alternate between offensive mode and defensive/preasure. This is odne by range juking and phantasm generation. I swap to s/s when I go for offensive, deal burst and then swap to staff for defensive. Alot of ppl die in 1ts cykle, tougher targets take sevaral cykles when you drain their defensive cd.s
The on/off is around 8 seconds. Burst, then swap for 8 sec preassure etc, then assult.
This is a old video, 4 month old and buildand gear is the first shatter cat original build. Still. go to the fight starting at 1:30~ and start clock offensive /denfensive pattern. You soon se its ~8-10 sec between the offensives.
@Gorma, In strat you dont know alot about how they build, tanky etc. I genraly try preasure both targets in a 1 vs 2, as soon I notice some of them take more dmg than the other its my target of choice as it will deal more dmg if i leav it alone + go down easier focused. Also, ANY fight in a 1 vs 2 mesmer ele combo I would move the battle to a place with as many terrain obsicles as possible.

The best part of the mesmer community itseslf is the big amount of helpfull players like BAS, Kylia, Pyro, embolism and many others who gladly answer new players questions. Theoretical its wery high number dmg you can get, but to crit all is rather unlikley. On a fragile target Mv full combo critted land somewere 3,5-3.8 ( 9%,9%,6%3%) x4, rune of air 5-6k.

@Varzul, No the hybrid is fantastic just cause it combine the preassure dmg form phantasm and burst/survival capabilitys from pure shatter setup. What I mean about Phantasm build not enought flexible i mean pure phantasm build (10-15-15-25-5 or simmilar). The 3.2 Shatter Cat Hybrid in my guide can adapt to the situation after need and I use it regulary.

@Fadeaway, Phantasm build is fantasticin 1 vs 1, close to op in spvp duels. Its alos extremly good vs bosses in pve. It lack flexibility and ability to move its force fast from 1 place to another in wvwvw thu and if jumped by several enemys its hard manuver and counterstrike / escape. Ot just do are flexible enought for me and y playstyle.

@Mrsmiles, I swap staff for GS when doing fractals, sometimes I also change sword for focus (example the knock down harpyes in one fractal where you try jump up, a iwarden defend vs bolts), some bosses I even play the weard staff/gs setup.

Also, this is why illusionary perona is so extremy stong as it give the dmg of the clone, so 1 clone mw = 100% bonus dmg of ip. I often dodge into somone with low hp and mw, lucky you se 2 big crits.

@Fadeaway, again, have a look, not on spec but on stats, in zerker gear you can get around 125 %+ crit dmg, not sure about power but FAR more than in spvp. add on normal % dmg. Then compare to your % crit dmg in sPvP.
Thing is that crit dmg scale like crazy while condition dmg go up rather static. This is the reason burst shatter builds are so deadly in wvwvw. I had mv who hit for ~ 4 k each in my burstiest build in wvwvw.

1: Mesmers speed is not sutch big problem as in wvwvw where the area and ability to move long distances in and out of combat is important. .
2: The dmg of the proc is based on crit dmg, % + dmg and power. The gear in wvwvw can bump your % crit dmg to 100-124% + while you in spvp dont get close to that by the berserker amulet.

@Its in fact Shatter Cat Mist, old build I us here, reason is cause the sword block give the little extra dmg I need to down him without me sacrefy defensive stats to gain more offensive. I play same setup when I fight a regen Ranger with good skills.
I have a habit to always carry 3-4 exotic swords 2 exotic staffs a focus and. a Gs when I roaming, food can be changed in combat aswell, its not the kind of gamepöay I expect ppl to play, enjoy or even pull off but if I face somone/some ppl and I notice, jesus crist they both play bleedstacking pistol build etc I portal out, shatter clones and leav combat, change to focus eath condi lovering food and jump into combat again.
@PH Law, Shatter cat Hybrid so a ton of dmg as you noticed by now, its weakness is capability to fast escape combat or survive landd bursts. Facing a thief thie usualy mean one of you will die and who it will be is based on how well you land your attacks.
Tipps is, use daze shatters to interupt stealths and heals. Use staff defensivly and to gain area. Remember its a hybrid. 1-2 iswordman phantasms and you can basicly movearound, as soon he hit they jump him. Use RUNE OF AIR
Sword block is a winner and with some timing a rune of air + swordblock + shatter is enought.
Also, see this vid, not same build (Its Shatter Cat Heavy) but combat style is wery simmilar as he play stealth dagger.

Even I I agree on pyro that warden as a shatter tool have its limits I still think as a romaing weapon focus shatter can be wery effective. I regulary swap beween weapons when roaming but feel Shatter Cat Mist 2.0 with s/f work wery well. It also make stomping, healing ressing etc easier as you can start a lightningfield on the downed enemy, summon a iwarden and start a stomp, is somthing try to interupt you jan pull without stop stomp, if something try range stop you warden prevent that + you wont get conditions due to clensing bolts.

@Herb and @ Carighan, you cant say that just cause you dont use portal as a solo tool or own benefit, only to get supplyes etc its useles as a solo tool. Its juts a matter of lear how to use portal and its one of the absolute strongest solo player utilitys we have as mesmers.

@All, I agree we dont have a passive speed boost, but fast remain. Correct specced Mesmers are the most mobile class in the game, atm even if its not wery known we are one of the fastest and hardest to catch roamers in game.

Did a duel session BO5 versus a Ele from Red Guard, Intigo. I say for sure, this is the best elementalist I EVER faced. So impressed. He kept preassure up and landed attacks on me in stealthed and tricked me to interupt wrong abilitys.
He beat me first 2 duels with have not happened versus eles in ages. I won the 3 after so a close 2-3 favour mesmer.

@Sibe, There is two major problem with the pack runes, 1 its not on demand that make it unreliable in pvp. 2 its random, making it less interesting, the random boon system have a tendence to laught at you and proc the exact boon you dont need at the wrong time.
Also, there stats can not compete to the dmg from rune of air proc unless you are in a pve situation.

Hi,
Toughness crit power and precision is core in the Shatter Cat builds.
Mist 2.0 have around 1550 toughness.
Still, notice its not a tank build, its a aggressive roaming build.
Shatter Cat Heavy is a frontline group shatter build, 1650 toughness, no tank build eather and as you see in vid doing good dmg.

Tbh Devilsmack, warriors need al buffs they can get vs us. I dueled several today who in general are skilled players and win vs many classes and other good players in dules, and they still accualy need to land thos hits to do and dmg. Dont see warriors buffs as major threat vs us.

I have a build ready for you, power/crit based roaming spec with staff, focus and sword. Chaos storm is used mainly for controll, startegic purposes in wvwvw, A stake/stomp or res is alot safer with chaos storm and chaos armour up. The staff is the core of the build but not its dmg core.

If you after a more dmg based build enjoy Shatter Cat Phantasm Hybrid. Only build I ever had a 10k blurred frenzy in wvwvw with.

To understand the use of staff you need to understand see its role for what it it.
It not suppose to give instant rewards in terms of big numbers, even if you spec for deep condition its rather hard in wvwvw to stakc enought high conditions to accualy deal dmg with the staff. What it do provide in dmg thu and in offensive conditions thu is preassure. You dont kill the enemy with staff, you preassure him. Between your bursts you want to stress the enemy, make him defensive and general keep him low, when your cd,s are ready again for a kill in a few secconds you go for the kill by swap to sword / x
What staff lso give is the best mobility by any other mesmer weapon. It also have the strongest defensive cd,s in game for mesmers. Plus it have a EXTREMLY high clone generation, our most important resourse.
So how do you get anything usefull of your staff, you dont use it for kills, you use it for :
-Mobility and chasing ppl down (yes you can catch runners by use staff)
-Defensive juking
-Build preassure on enemy
-Team support/own booning up for a kill
When you want to kill someone swap to sword /x. When somone want to kill you swapp to staff.

@Nevseyy, for general roaming 10% crit 100% prec, for GS + sword/focus 30+ ppl vs 30+ alt zergdiving with guild Precision + toughness food, for dueling -40% condition uptime 70 vit.

@Kudos, I usualy use the condition lovering runes or divinity in spvp, I also use the vitality, precision, power nec in spvp.
@Nevseyy, 2 reasons,
-1 cause the buide use several chaviler parts, meaning it get high crit dmg, toughness and keep power, but lack some in precision. I compensate this thru precision sigil and food.
-2 Precision give a more spiky dmg setup, power give high dmg but more stable. For PvP i prefere bursty/spiky dmg as it are harder to handle for the opponent.

Hi.
This is a wery good thread, it take up a important matter that we need to work on for next patch. How shall we spec/play to be effective in bigger situations than the 2-7 man roaming teams where we al know shatter mesmers shine like bright stars.
For medium teams (12~ppl) I in the past played Shatter Cat heavy and found it effective.
For bigger fights I will most likley where I in the past played glamour now will play a GS / Sword-Focus setup with 1650-1750 toughness, feedback veil and portal. I tested this in a few of our runs lately and feel im happy with the setup, not 100% sure on the exact spec yet but I tested 10-20-10-0-30 and 0-30-10-0-30.
Have no video of the gameplay but might add some later, It wont be part of the shatter cat builds thu unless I change my mind. I never added the glamour build I play in the guide eather, or my dueling build I use as a hard conuter to GS/shortbow rengen rangers (work fantastic
).

@HunterP, How can you claim it only have those two uses? It one of the absolute strongers solo gameplay utilitys a mesmer have and make us one of the most effective solo/smal team roamers in wvwvw.

As wvwvw turning atm organiced groups lost a strong tool to be effective versus number 1 spamming blobs. I understand it felt unfair that one class would be the only to carry a tool to counter enemy zergs. Even if its sad to lost several viable and fun build and see two 1 h weps become unviable I have some understanding of the other classes, frustration.
Still as it looks now the mindless blobbing gets close to impossible to counter unless you have a simmilar blob of nr 1 spammers.
To keep wvwvw interesting its time to remove the AOE cap, this would force guilds to use more advanced tactics, spread the attacking force over a wider field and use a front force and a defending tail instead of one big pile. A smaler force would be able to keep a larger in chocke points ala 300 style and the terrain would have bigger impact.
It would also be a reason to use long distance aoe forces and keep em guarded in the back or on high ground versus big enemy teams.

@MightyMe, Shatter nr 2 still do alot of nice stuff. A 3 clone shatter nr 3 will give 3 stacks of might for 10 sec, apply 8 stacks of confusion and deal ~2-3k dmg so deffo worth use.
The f1 f2 f3 in some situations is usualy for some extra confusion yes a little tip of dmg and I iften try end with a daze to avoud counterstrikes. The f3 end is sweet
I will not change any rotations, I use the same seup with good ressult in spvp atm. This nerf mostly hit the builds who mainly use confusion for spikes.
Note thu, the state of mesmers will ALWAYS be based on hpw we stand in compare to the other classes. As it look today in a random situation in wvwvw the one who is a threat normaly is -Thiefs, Condition engis, other mesmers and d/d eles. Al other we can avoid/kill most of the time. Of this enemys next patch buff Thiefs, mesmers are a mirror, d/d eles get al heavy hit with the nerf bat and condition enginers will be ALOT easier. So in the end our life will be a little easier tbh exept the thiefs who will remain a class you NEED to practice alot vs to feel secure vs. I duel thiefs 1-3 hours / week, it help alot.
Moa is to solo focused for wvwvw in my oppinion, mass moa mabye next patch?

@Pyroatheist, like you suggested just had a look in the ele forums, face palm idd. I guess a wery viable tactic fighting a d/d now thu is blink away to the bbzbzbzb miss.
@All, anyway, lets now be mature. Drop the qq, we wont get Anet to change their mind. Lets theorycraft and make what we mesmers do bets. Be flexible and find new ways to toll the GW,s to the max. A serious buff to mantras might open new doors.

@Varzul, we looking at a total dmg nerf of 50% to al wvwvw confusion dmg. Making it practicly unviable to gear and spec for confusion dmg spikes and direct dmg far better. As our other condition is short lived and unreliable I dont see any reason to gear and spec for condition dmg as a mesmer. They effectly killed every condition spec for mesmers ( Glamour, shatter or staff bounce). The Torch and scepter is also subpar already and now they thave no room in our arsenal.
Note thu, this is not a doomsday, just made the number of builds that we can play less. I cant say I agree with arenanet on this, we seen wery loud QQ,ers (ARM,s) about confusion dmg and I guess this show they do listen to forum warriors.
I would thu agree with the changes if they added alternatives and changes to condition builds so they not simply killed al condition spec. Its like if they made al necros deal 50% less dmg with power builds, the ressult would be al direct dmg builds would be lost and the build who most already play (condition) would not only be dominating but also the only resonable build.
