@All, reguarding 28/1 patch.

Not any game braking news. I will not alter any of the 4 builds atm, will have a look at new gear obtained thru monthly and give a update if its any “need to get”.

One interesting change, the duelist do good dmg again so the “Shatter Cat Original” build got a buff. Always good, was unsure if this was a nerf or bug, still feel I might grab my knight pistol and do some roaming tomorow after I sleept.

Tbh its a core trait for my original build and I spent many hundreds of hours with the trait. That they now increased the dmg back made the priginal shatter cat build a little stronger again.

Cheers ppl. It was not a easy deccision, love deso to the bone and the quailty of the random ppl you run into on deso is fantastic. You can easy hit a stealth, shout gather on meand get 5-7 ppl from randomg guilds to join a portal attack on deso, will miss that

We have thu got a fantastic wc on Gendara, we in their forum and start to get to know some ppl.

Still as you say we had our reasons, so far the fights in T4 been fantastic, the zergs are 1 /3 of the t1 zergs and you find alot of guilds to fight in open with using tactics etc. And I have a feeling the ppl on Gend geting more and more used to organiced fighting.

@Opacus, The cat leap have confused some ppl, I try explain it in text. The basic mecanics it uses is 1 swiftness buff from rune of air, 2 blink, 3 staff skill phase retreat 4 sword leap and optional 5 pistol stun.

The phase retreat ALWAYS portal you away from your target, this make its usfullness when fully understand its mecanic huge. Its one of the best incombat mobility tools we have and can be used to climb walls (see the elementalist video if you kissed it, 1 st page), it can be used to propell you towards a hunter by mark the hunters pet, place yourself between the pet and hunter and hit staff.

Same go for the so hated sword leap, I love the ability and often use it in experemental ways to climb rocks, shatter a clone and keep the position as a leep escape etc.

To do the “Cat Leap” thu as showed in the guide this is how you do.

Start with mark target, if you solo skipp this.

1 hit heal for swiftness

2 mark a npc, a rabbit, moscito, enmy player or what ever you can find ( this is why you shoud have name playes up on everything as a mesmer).

3 blink pass the target

4 hit staff phase retreat, now it proppels you from the rabbit towars the enemy.

5 If marked hit T, if not mark enemy,

6 use sword leap

7 leap to target.

8 optional, for the Shatter cat original build you use a pistol stun before sword if range is big, this spec is best mobility of al 4 specc my guilde include.

@Exavion, Yes I use 180 degrees turn to staff leap but thats to mark a npc/enemy/target behind me, then I hit staff 2 insta leav wiev and change target, I do this wery wery fast thu. Also, sword leap work backwards, so if chased by a thief, you can turn camera 180, mark theif, hit a sword leap who will cripple him, then change to staff blink away from the now crippeled thief and then use blink for even longer distance. This can be done stealthed aswell.

@HappyHubris, Yes I feel IP is wery usefull for dungeon runs aswell. Not only it provide some extra dmg but it offers a " stay out of death" free card and by have reset shatter at 50 % you can survive wery well in a spec and gear who on paper look like a fragile dmg dealer.

In some situations its just not possible to go mele thu and then you dmg with ranged shatters and phantasm etc. For this situations I carry a GS in my bags when I do dungeon runs. Thats why I simply LOVE the hybrid spec, its extremly flexible and applyable to different situations. Also the daze vuln stacking is a huge dmg boost to the whole group.

@Fay, good list, wery needed and helpfull for new and old mesmers. Small detail and sorry for be picky but the " Shatter Cat" guide is not only 10-30-0-0-30 its 4 different builds for wvwvw and pve so a more accuarte description would be : “4 builds for WvWvW and PvE”, or something simmilar.

@Sal, sorry “run IP” is Osicatich for " use the trait Illusionary Persona".

In general shatter spec is more effective in a mid range – mele build with juking in and out of target. They work wery good in Pve aswell ( have alook in my guide if you interested). The phantasm hybrid is a little more flexible for pve as you get the bonus phantasm dmg and on a stable boss who dont dmg your illusions can get 3 phantasm up to do steady dmg same time as it for other can let them hit 1 time then shatter em.

@Gallrvaghn, dw, I hardly understand myself sometimes. Anyway, for the perfect burst setup, have a look and try folow the cd,s and shatter sequence in first guardian and again later in the guardian by the vista. In general I only use this " perfect burst combo" on 1 vs 1 when im sure noone else is around. Reason is that it cost many cd,s. If its a 1 vs x save cd,s and do lest costly bursts and rely on steady dps to drag enemy to 60% before burst.

Fast question, you run IP and stay “in the face” of the enemy, or you send your clones on shatter from range?

Try send 2 clones on daze shatter, then insta cripple target, leap mirror and let a blade flurry + 4 sources mindwrack hit the crippeled and dazed target.

@Tortimer, I agree you not should use full berzerker, tbh in no of my guides do I recomend this. Still you able to reach high crit dmg without give toughness away, you using the rings I discuss wit Reyzen? As you see my toughness is rather ok, 1249 and still have high dmg stats, may I wonder what uour toughtness is with 82% crit dmg?

My first days as a Gandarian have been fantastic.

Sometimes you shock yourself after fought VZ in tier 1, like first night when we went with a 8 man team with zerg killing mode on, somone Shout “Zerg inc location x”. Ok comming….everyone get ready, stealth, escape portals up, time warp x 2 ready, blow everything!!! and 3 2 1 BANG spazzz wamp pow bang splat…. at our feet is a 10-12 man group wery dead, half low lvl,s who still have terror in their eyes…. where is the 60 man + zerg we expected?

Anyway, seen some extremly skilled players in this tier so far, guess its cause its more room for tactic, just as we want it. AR smal morning roaming team, /bow, some nice dmg and speed you got. Cheers, ty for a warm wellcome Gandara, rest, cya in the War.

@Reyzhen, Hi. The al stats is best for d/d eles in my oppinion. Of the fractal rings there is one set that beat everything else for Shatter mesmers. Its the 8% crit, tough and power. I use 2 of those for 16% crit dmg and 206 tough 164 power.

@All, I keep get PM,s asking for the stats for the builds. I rather give recomendations on what to aim for rather than claim you need a sertan exact stats. I will list my Phantasm hybrid stats thu as I get so many questions about em.

My gear and current stats for Phantasm Hybrid Shatter Cat 2013-01-27

With food and oil:

Power 1990
Crit chance 50% (with preci stacking sigil I get around 60-62%)
Crit dmg 100%
Toughtness: 1249 (2168armour)
Heath: 15800~ (with server buff 16500-17k~)

I dont have any tank builds but 1 of my burst builds is extra hard to take down with passive defense, high upptime on defenses and alot of acctive defense. As said, no tank/bunker build but a soldier mesmer build. No mantras thu but shatter heavy.

The thing that both weps is good, the difference is that they are good in different ways, demand a little different builds and playstyles.

Sword (OH) :

Have short cd,s hard single strike phantasm.
Block do high dmg, summon a clone at enemy and block a attack
2 clone summon abilitys for a shatter build

Have short range.
For block to work you need your enemy to hit you.
Tier 1 trait, easy accesable and need 1 trait to buff both MK and OH

Pistol (OH)

Long range, can be traited for even longer range.
On demand cc
Bleed procs x many

Easy for enemy to avoid some of the dmg from the phantasm ( dodge after 1st hit/s)
Only 1 clone summon ability for a shatter build.
No defensive ability vs stealthed enemy,s

Overall this make pistol and sword good, if you use pistol you have a easier time catch runners and put preassure on a enemy at range, still the pistols lack of a block vs thiefs make the user a little vulnebal and you need a little more passive defense. It do thu demand you to go deep dueling to trait, you cant play a shatter build without clone on dodge so 30 p in dueling if you want range and cd.

Sword have short cd,s and generate more clones. Its cheep to trait both oh and MH for shorter cd, simpley put 20 in dueling 10 for sword and 10 for clone on dodge. This open for a invest in vuln on daze and 15% dmg for phantasm, something that give a huge dmg bonus to the iswordsman.

Only a Mesmer can trick his own allies that he is actively in a fight, but hiding behind a wall waiting for CDs to clear. (Usually the Heal skill).

I so done that when the phone been ringing or I had a need to refill my cup. Summon 2 clones and a phantasm, hit autofire chaos armour and a chaos storm, then went afk while my little army doing its work.

@Pyroatheist, Hi. Im wery impressed how you combined the traits and overall build to synergice with eachother. Its obious you can follow a ability and how it get affected or affect al other parts of te build in a posetive way. I alos like the fact you combine passive survival (gear, boons) with acctive survival (staff, sword, 2 stealths and shatters).

Two questions, have you tested to add Vigorous Revalation in inspiration for more energy?

How do the spec work vs boon stackers, do it become 2 healing paladins in a end of days wow duel?

Intruduction Gude for the Shatter Cat Heavy spec

Pros Cons, it also illustate that the spec have hard kill/catch tank classes who dont want to fight you. Several fights is 1 vs x but end with the enemy after lost 1-3 players deccide its not fun fight a Heavy Shatter cat and leg it.

Spec is best in team with a burst direct dmg player in team, a thief or a shatter burst mesmer. This let you preassure enemy and your friend to deal big dmg.

Most ppl who use tortch use it for a stealth and aoe burn, the phantasm is at best a shatter fodder. In a condition spec with scepter and tortch as 2 nd setup you play 90% generaly with staff, switch for a 5 stack confusion, mabye a block and the stealth, after its eather throw image and back to staff or ignore image and back to staff.

@Blainers, forgot to mention, for a 1 vs 1 when you strugge cause enemy play a boon heavy spec (regen class) you can always change the 15% phantasm dmg in the hybrid for boon strip on shatter. Combinded with a daze is make wonders. Get 1 staff clone up, then a sword phantasm and a sword clone, hit swap(leap) do a daze+ mirror immage and sword blur. dodge ut and hit mindwrack.

Boons stripped, enemy dazed witch prevent alot of defenses, crippled and take big dmg, 20 + vuln stacks many confusion and a burst of mv dmg. Its lightningfast and as your clones and phantasm is at different range when you hit daze they hit in a chain, meanng long daze uptime. Same tactic but without boon strip is the common hybrid attack varied in different ways, see latest 2 vids for more tactic info about daze + burst combos with phantasm dmg mixed in.

2, cond duration is best obtained thru food.

3, both viable, overall torch is a rather weak wep but I use if in my condi build for a extra target drop and defense.

4, Tbh centaur runes is not a favorite for me in any build, especialy in a condition build as you even if you catch up with ppl (witch you cant in most cases anyway) you dont have dorect burst enought to kill them. Better then to swap torch for a focus if you realy want speed buff, your dmg will come from staff and shatters in this build anyway and you have enought passive defense to use a focus. Personaly I run in group mostly with condition spec when i use the spec, this sort my speed problems.

@blainerz, yes I just find that mirror immage have more usages, especialy in hybrid spec and original build it serv a on demnd survival, burst or daze. It can be dropped when running from somone to daze em, it can be used as a stunnbraker or a insta blink+4 source shatter on a fleeing target. Hit by a stun its superb stunbraker + 3 sec immunity.

For shatter cat heavy it would be a option but think null field is better for the build as it give extra chaos armour.

Dont take me wrong, by al means test and experement, see my builds as guidelines and suggestions but alter and mixture with em to find a personal style who work for you. I post the way I like to do things and whats work for me. I do thu test everything over and over again to find a good combo for a build etc.

@Umknown, spot on, on ,my guild runs I change utilitys after situation. Attacking a tower? Hello feedback and nullfield. Fight a smal group defending a camp? Mirror immage and portal here we come.

@Wppt, I added in the gear section a guide inside the gude who show what slots best used for big stats ( stst gear) and what best used for % crit dmg. The section also explain why so you understand why I do like I do and not only “make up” a favorite and claim its the best.

I think what Iron do in deso, recruting and organicing a non hardcore branch of the guild is supperb. This lead to more fun for new players on the server and overall more controll in wvwvw. If we could by this open up room fro the hardcore teams at sertan points by organice pve/casual wvwvw etc for ppl everyone gets happy. The casual players get friends to play with and organiced stuff to do, something to look froward to. And the hardcore team can communicate with the casual/normal section to minimice the risk of not get the team together in the wvwvw.

We need more guilds to open up for non hardcore players and work on the server organication overall.

Its good for new mesmers to find a serie of working builds, but also its a plattfrom for more experienced players to experement and find new ways to play the shatter mesmer. The builds and guides is under constant develop and it will be interesting to see where the wvwvw and pve evulution will take us in the comming year.

Not sure but think Embolist agree (who play condition build more frequent than me) that any pvp situation and especialy in wvwvw where its alot of open space to move, its hard to get somone down with a steady dmg output without spikes.

When hes health start drop he uses defenses heal etc or simply leg it. If your dmg have a spike here and there and best if its on demand you can more easy take somone down. The 3 clone staff dmg is good if they get a chance to stand and dmg, but a sudden shatter/wand confusion stacking or something else is often wery rewarding.

I also think condition set works best in group, here its extremly strong thu as your steady dmg and survival keep preassure on the enemy, and your teammate,s burst down the low health one. Also confusion is a wery strong controll tool. Even vs a experienced and skilled player who dont use abilitys it serv a role as it forces him to not attack/use abilitys.

Hi mate I undestand why you wonder this as the mesmer weapon setup in some cases get used for several builds and dmg sources.

Sword,s is best used for direct dmg builds, staff is core in condition dmg builds but also a core in most shatter builds due to its defensive abilitys and incombat movment.

Have a look at this sword/sword – staff guide. You notice that even if its a direct dmg build condition dmg play a essensial role aswell.

@UnknowFreak, Yeah happy it got stickyed, dont ean I will stop work on keep it uppdated But feel good, put alot of effore on make it more user friendly.

@Attic, Accualy I use 20-20-0-0-30 with clone on dodge, blind on glamour confusion on glamour. This keep me alive aswell as give strong support to the raid. I know a optimal support glamour build would be longer glamours but I feel the initial crach when the zerg run into that doorway is where al matters, first 5 seconds. Also a good clone generation and illusionary pers give option to confusion bomb with cry shatters on smaller groups, its hard for them to hit you when feedbacks etc is up and you can survive good with shatter nr 4.

Basicly, the less defensive utilitys, weaps, build etc you have the more you need to invest in passive defense. A Shatter build with 2 stealth, blink,illusionary persona etc need less passive survival you need. Still the skill cap increases when the passive survival go down.

If you just hit 80, try test around on builds etc and when you have a build you like start gear for it. MF is lost stats that you will spend time and gold on replace later.

Centaur runes is not worth the stat and dmg loss in my oppinon but that is depending on my playstyle. This go both for solo duo and group play, for instances its even worse and better for the group if you use dmg.

@Season, Its not unviable to use another sigil and in no way do ppl have to folow my guides builds exact to preform well. I use the setup I found work for me best after testing etc.

I will thu explain why I find preci stacking on staff so strong. First of all you need to understand the diferent modes in a fight, steady dmg defensive mode. This is whene I move away tfom the enemy, deal a steady flow of dmg and slovly wear a enemy down. in this I use staff. Staf deal dmg but also keep me alive and mobile. A enemy who have hes hp ticking donw in a sertan pace feel secure.

He feel “ok I take dmg but if I lose this hp every sec I can last untill my next heal/defensive cd” and he let the hp fall a bit, trying to kill the target. Then al sudden I switch mode, go to s/s or s/p, juke in offensive and deal a burst of dmg. If enemy who felt secure with 60% hp might go down, if he dont he instead in many cases panic a little, do a few misstakes and hes so secure feeling turns into unsecure.

Stacking sigils is the only sigils who you can keep on your staff and still get benefits when you switch away from it. The offensive mode will use the stakcs and it still carry its value to next setup. So when you attack you attack with the power of 3 sigils.

You dont need to get 25 stacks for preci to be worth it. Even 8-10 stakcs is a major buff for your offensive mode and can be grinded in 30 sec on cayotes outside spawn. Pull a pack of 5-6 cayotes on you, get some shatters up and a chaost storm and in 30 sec you have 10+ stacks

@Juno, yes mirror is a fantastic ability, alot of enemys get supriced it also is a stunbraker, sunned target suddenly is unstunned, pop 2 clones and dodge, in dodge a 4 clone MV hit.

@Season, this is why I often consider this guide as a ressult of the mesmer community rather than my personal work. I do misstakes and sometimes misses something. Ty for point out the description of crit bonus. Fack remain thu, the overall bonus in rating from stats is bigger if you use the “big” gearparts for pure stats bonuses. Example chest for knight, and uses glowes etc for crit%. Also jewelery for %crit dmg.

For toughtness I feel that use the % crit dmg and toughtness ring from fractal with the knight gear etc give enought. 1100~ This is for the hybrid spec. Shatter cat original want a little more passive defense.

Oh one more thing, while testing on golems, I have a feeling you might been having a sigil of air on a weap aswell? Note sigil of air on wep have same animation, and the combat log say same (lightningstrike) but the rune prock when you get hit, sigil is a prock when you crit. Also, sigil hit for maby a third of the dmg a rune hit for.

Rune is nerfed sens a few weeks back, but it still crit for 5-6k+ regulary.

@season, first, the gear, 4%flat is wrong, sorry, I used my own weard spread sheet and messed in the air runes 2% crit dmg. Still the gain of normal stats is higher compared to the % crit dmg you gain. Chest and helmet is better stats /%crit dmg. Just look at gloves and helmet, samer %crit dmg on berserker gear but more stats. 34p24prec2%crit dmg glowes, 45p32prec2%crit dmg. A knight helmet and berserker glowes give a better overall gain than a berserker helmet and a knight glowe cause of his.

Save your burst mean dont spend al at once ::) Mv have short cd and can be used, but daze have long cd and should be used if you a going for a kill, or planning to resett your shatter cd,s.

great example of preassure untill enemy down, first 2 fight is full bursts. dee the difference.

Rune of air do more dmg in wvwvw than in the myst. you cant get so high crit dmg in the myst as in your wvwvw gear. Also air runes are used for the mobility as mouch as the dmg, why they better than divinity for the spec,s.

Torch, feel free to test, you will lack alot of dmg thu, but gain some defence. I dont like the torch in any way exept a target drop thu.

Personaly I find the best way to handle conditions is to know your enemy, use LOS, stealth and when is a situation you feel/know they will try apply conditions usea immunity.

Also Sigil of generosity is a winner.

Feel free to see my latets video, firts fight is a duel with a d/d 0-10-0-30-30 ele, a class/setup whos conditions is a threat. Later Its a necro and a 1 vs x. LOS, stealth immunitys and sigil of generostiy al used to handle survival.

@Darx, the abilitys so far I can say for sure after my observations is that the nr 1 attack, block, daze throw, blurred, and leap (99% sure on last, might been me hit a nr1 after leap moved me) transfere a condition. Not fully sure but shatters carry the 5% dmg bonus of force, might also proc sigils. I will test the shatter part and come back to you .

As its 60% chance to transfer a condition and my crit chhance usualy in battle is 60% + I tend to proc on regular basis.

Clones and Phantasms do not proc sigils exept the stacking ones, they do thu carry crit chance and +% dmg from our stats.

Also the sigil renew the full duration, look at the poison in the theif fight, when it gets transfered it get a full long duration.
