I joined a group on my Warrior just the other day and I was only in my 50’s as well. I had never done AC explore before and was quite excited to go into it. I ended up saving a few of the 80s a couple of times, and even being the last alive at some points. It all depends on the people you can find to go with. They were all very willing to explain some parts to me before going in, and others told me just to follow the main guy and hit the called targets. Alas, we ran 2 paths and had an awesome time.

I used to run Twilight Arbor a ton getting tokens for my elementalist… The loot was horrible for the time spent. After recent patches I just started going to dungeons on my Warrior, wow what a difference… I am now getting drops my characters level that are good enough to use and/or sell for ~8 – 10s also getting tokens from chests which never happened before. And also made 70s – 1g in 2 runs, which is awesome considering I just started receiving World Bonuses, never got them since Beta.

I do not want to use greatsword… Nor do I want to waste 1 utility slot and elite slot to be 8% faster than only a few classes that have a passive 25% movement buff. What if we do not want to use signet of rage as elite, or use sword/greatsword combo just to keep up. I was mainly curious why all passive movements were boosted from 10% to 25% except warriors.

Why is warrior the only profession in game that is stuck at 10% movement speed. Everyone else recently got their movement traits / signets boosted to 25%, can Warrior’s get this too?

Lol is this a joke? Have you tried the class? Please go play one before making false posts. If you got owned by an Ele, you found yourself out played.

Edit: After reviewing a lot of your previous posts and how you feel thief is stuck into two builds explains a lot. Your post is not constructive.

If you are talking about survivability, Thief has just as much speed / traits / stealth / etc.

Elementalist require a knowledge of when to use what skills and combo fields. Almost all of our hard hitting spells have a 30 – 45 second timer. Again, unlike a lot of professions.

If you’re talking about Survivability, how about invulnerability every 8 seconds on a mesmer + distortions + free stun breakers on staff phase retreat.

A lot of classes in this game can be either burst damage or survivability, however, Ele’s have learned to tri – spec to 30 Healing (water/condition removal traits) 30 Arcane (to reduce Attunement swap to 9 seconds + boon duration) + 10 Air for Fury/Swiftness on Aura use. Which is on a cooldown of 30 seconds or more.

Again, being out played is no reason for posts like these.

Agreed… Killed 3 Champions in a row and got absolutely nothing for all 3. This was last week.

Thanks OP, that was cool. My favorite part was where you ran away from the downed Warrior who used Vengence, I love doing that because I can only imagine their rage as you just go about your business while they bleed out.

Lol yes, I love kiting Warriors who use vengeance just to watch them die after 8 seconds… I then /bow to show them I appreciated the effort of continuing the fight.

I’ve been D/D since Beta, but when the Flavor of the Month started showing up, I changed to staff. It’s a lot harder to use a staff and I find it a challenge to do so. Also, with the increase in Rangers / Mesmers, Staff has the Magnetic Aura to reflect projectiles, which is quite funny if timed correctly. Just watch a Ranger burst himself down (if they specced that way).

If you have another proc sigil, such as one that procs on critical, this will conflict and only one will work at a time.

Exactly what I was going to say, what is the other weapon sigil, because 2 on swap effects or a crit sigil, share cool downs.

With your current setup, I would presume you would be fine. The extra crit chance from fury would help your output damage and the Tough / Vit on armor would help you survive. As long as you KNOW when to use your skills and not just trying to put things on cooldown, you should be fine. I’m assuming since you are d/d you know all about dodging the big attacks. However, remember that in dungeons, there is a lot of aoe, so every extra bit of toughness / healing helps. Less healing = Need better tactics. All I can say is start with Rare items and if you like the play style, go for exotics. Best of luck!

I use Aura sharing to stack fury / swiftness on my group mates.

i am always trying to get waters 20% damage to vulnerable targets to work.
25 air
at least 10 water.
ice bow however does this combo without 25 air just as part of bow 2 which is pretty powerful on its own but 20% extra damage is pretty nice.

I have never really felt the need for the 10 extra charges.

maybe 25 water for +2% per boon
maybe 25 fire for +%10 to burning targets.

full power build could be
20 water for +20% to vulnerable and +10% while health over 90%
30 fire for +10% to burning targets, burn on crit, +10 charges
20 air for Damage to weak targets and auras.

somewhere around +60% damage using the bow.
Then im thinking dagger/focus weapons.

for non 80s move fire down to 20 for burn crit and damage
and then at least 10 water for +20% to vulnerable targets.

I feel without the + 10 conjures I burn through the attacks to fast. Could be just me though. Never really used them and trying them out now. I swapped out my Magnetic shield for the Fire Axe so I can burn targets upon conjuring it. Still having trouble in Orr though.

I’ve thought about a few of these builds using 20 fire for the +conjure trait with 20 water for remove conditions on attuning to water + soothing wave trait for regen on frost bow and 30 arcane for arcane shield, elemental attunement and evasive arcana. That way you can dodge in water for an extra heal or earth as a blast finisher.

Also using magnetic shield for some defensive options. Fiery greatswords whirl attack is also a free evade when timed correctly.

Frost bow adds some range. Lightning hammer is great for blast finisher / blind on attacks. Flame axe is also decent for melee, but I would stick with the Lightning hammer as the blind mechanic is very nice.

Don’t forget to attunement dance, with 20 points in Fire you will do aoe fire damage when you switch into it. Water will remove a condition and grant regen + if you dodge in water = another heal. Earth will give you protection + a blast finisher dodge.

I would suggest using a staff to start fights to set up an initial combo field and some extra range, maybe a meteor shower then swap into frost bow?

These are just general ideas I plan on trying myself.

Been trying to get this figured out myself. I have tested max toughness / 3k+ armor builds as an Ele, and no matter your toughness / armor, you still will be downed in 2 button combo. CnD + Steal + Autoattack Backstab. If you are focused on fighting someone else and they get the jump on you, you are dead.

I completely agree with points : 2-3-4, as ele I can say that you’re either built to take a beating for long times or you’re built to die the moment somebody sneeze in your direction, especially point 2 is the most complained about.
Talking from an ele PoW and for the majority of cases seen so far ( so not including the special snowflake who always appear), 70% eles go around with cantrips the remaining 30% use at least one signet, in the sub-forum the general consesus is :" go d/d tank ..or go home", people have started using d/d even in PvE.

As you have stated is either you’e built to die in 2s or you’re built to last 2s, in the ele case the number of times you die in 2s far outweight any other class built in the same way hence the reason why all you can hope to see is tanky d/d eles .

I’ve recently started trying staff in sPvP, just to try it. With my current build I can dish out okay damage, and decent survivability. Except versus thieves, still die in 2 button combo. CnD Steal + Autoattack Backstab. = Downed, but that’s a whole different story. No matter what spec you will still be 3 shotted by one profession.

Only complaint I have is the slow cast animations on Staff ele. I feel like I am in slow motion compared to all other ranged classes.

The Fire shield on signet is nice, but once activated you lose the effect of the signet without 30 earth.
Besides that, you only have 1 aura with Scepter dagger, so not really worth it. However if you had D/D you would have access to 2 – 3 auras.

Air 3, Water 4, Ring of Fire/Fire field > Earth 3 combo (fire aura)

An increased projectile speed on the auto attacks would be useful, but I fail to see what casting times (or in fact the ranger comment) have to do with anything.

The ranger comment: Recent patch changes for them. We would like something like this as well.
Not exactly 30% but something, nothing more frustrating having someone walk to the side of where your fireball hits and no damage being done without them having to waste dodges.

I have been messing around with a glass cannon build since the changes. I am actually having fun, dieing a lot, but still having fun, which is what I was lacking before. The person complaining was a warrior. When i told him to give examples, he rage quit, PM’d me then blocked me before i could respond. Told me im not worth his f’ing time. So i was curios about what buffs. I know rifle warriors who hit for 15k with their rifles. I must be crazy though.

The buff to Bolt to the Heart i will give is awesome. That was a buff, but it just seems to fit better. They had a few bugs with this patch like Ride the Lightning resetting attunements, but besides that it is giving us more options, imho.

Every sPvP game I have been in since the patch, people are complaining saying Ele got buffed this patch. Did I miss something? Because all I see is bug fixes, underwater combat, a worthless duration increase to 30 fire trait, and a 50% fall damage reduction which we have to spec 20 water to get just like other Professions…

So my question is, what “buffs” did Elementalist receive that I am unaware of?

Edit: On a side note, we get Fire aura by the leap finisher which should trigger our on aura abilities if they are specced that way. Now add in Armor runes with +duration to boons / protection + Arcane spec line for longer boon durations… It is a combo field / playstyle. They are known as Auramancers and can keep boons up for a long time. Anyone with boon stripping or Boon to Conditions is going to cause them havoc most of the time. They will also not be doing the best damage, but are built to wittle their opponents life down slowly…

The worst part is now these bots are not just running around automatically they are using hacked clients to teleport all around the world. Meaning in the time it takes 1 person to travel between waypoints + to pay for each WP used to collect materials. However, these bots are not paying for WP they are literally teleporting to every node and teleporting away…

Also, if these botters are using teleport hacks, what makes you think they wont sell these hacks to players to use in WvWvW ?

Botters / Hackers ruin any game, I don’t know why anyone would want them around?

Fire #2 needs to come after Earth #2 otherwise the Lava font disappears before the Earth #2 explodes = no combo.

Edit: When you see a thief go into that shadow circle to hide, look in that direction deselect target and use air #3 to blow them out of the circle. (staff only)

The 50% on swap endurance one is good, but not if the sigil of fire procs it now puts both weapons on a cooldown. Swap out the second one for a Bloodlust, Precision, Healing. Whatever your preference. I would suggest either Bloodlust or Precision. If you want more crits go with the precision, unless you have a decent chance with the +20% from fury, then I suggest Bloodlust for more raw damage.

I remember fighting Spectres for experience in Oasis from level 35-40. Then I found about the Dwarves in Butcher Block. Not sure what they have to do with Lightning Arc though.

Lol, the OP meant sceptre I believe, but this did make me laugh.

On topic: I only like the scepter for Earth setup with high bleeds. The downfall of course is 1 condition high stacks = easy to get rid of.

I’m level 9 right now, but whenever I fight it seems I always have just enough health to survive and feel like I’m just randomly spamming ability’s. Does anyone have advice? I want to know what combos there are and what skills to use. I really like ele and I’d hate to have to reroll.

Whenever you initiate a fight, if starting in Fire, do a Burning Speed, Ring of Fire, Earth, Earthquake, Earth# 2(forget name atm), Air, Shocking Aura, Air #2 (makes all non critical hits a glancing blow), Updraft is nice to knockback targets, if need heals switch to Water and use number 2 (unless you need to cleanse a condition first, then use #5).

Pretty much the basics. If in air do same thing except start with Ride the lightning, Updraft, shocking aura combo, then rotate into fire, earth, water.

The Fire > Earth will stack some good might while providing some defense because enemies will be knocked down. Once you learn the basic of how to stack lots of might and do self combo’s, it gets easier.

EDIT: If having a really tough time, start putting your points into Water or Earth. 5 points in water and getting some +Healing Power gear / weapons will help a lot at lower levels as you will regen most damage.

I think we can all agree that the entire point of being “downed” is to be able to fight back and have a SLIM chance at surviving.

But thieves and elementalists negate this basis. What I’m getting at is how thieves can finish in stealth and elementalists can pop vapor form to become untouchable. This is an unfair advantage that makes it almost impossible to fight back (yeslol I have elixir S – Doesn’t make me feel any better about it).

What I plead for, silently (except now) and personally is that activation of any form of stealth or invulnerability should block or interrupt finishers. We should all have a chance to fight back to our last breath, regardless of what class we are.

My 2 cents.

Necro stability on Death shroud, Engineer elixirs, Warrior stability, Ele has Mist Form and Earth GM Trait, Stability on swapping to earth for 2 seconds, Thief stealth…

A lot of classes can do the same things, Ranger has pet swap quickness.

Mist form is also on a 90 second timer, a few professions can avoid the mist form stomp, Ele’s, Mesmers, Thieves are the ones I can think of.

Hmm that would explain mist form rezzing too when no one dies. Smack a minion mist form and let the little Jagged Horror die? Quite possible… Next time I see a necro and I die I will test this further.

It doesn’t always work, when you use the heal, you no longer get the passive effect. I found this to happen 2 out of 3 times.

We don’t have anything viable besides heavy damage output, therefore thieves have to hit hard and then disengage, thats just the way a assassin works

I’ve actually seen some mean regen/condition thieves where they can hold off 2 – 3 people.

Thieves have medium armor =/= to lowest armor in game. That would be the Elementalist good sir. Lowest armor and Lowest HP.

Ok… Explain this, im not a glass cannon, 2800 armor, 2900 armor when in earth attunement, dead in under 2 seconds and never even see the enemy. This is why people left the game, this is what they need to fix. It wouldn’t be so hard to fight back if you could see them…. And no do not say L2P because everyone knows thieves can just stealth several times to stay invis until they fight someone. Even then, 2 – 3 seconds of “revealed” doesn’t give people enough time to see them as the “revealed” debuff is off as soon as they get enough initiative to go invis again.

Absolutely 0 time to use a Cantrip to negate any damage. Arcane shield never pops up when the damage is all done in a matter of 0.5 – 2 seconds.

EDIT::: Just did some more testing with 3k+ armor and 1k Healing power. Did not die at all 2 entire games (no thieves in game).
People were getting aggravated that they couldn’t kill me, thief comes in, starts burst, I use utilities to avoid burst, 3 seconds later, all utilities on CD, thief does second burst… 3 hits, dead. Steal CnD Backstab over 3k armor, instant death.

I truly enjoyed your video you got there….
First of all, you say no animation to dodge?
I see him cast both basilisk venom and C&D before using steal.
Watch your video again + the only burst he does is that part it’s not his 3rd burts or anything, it’s his first burst you die on due to the fact that you didn’t dodge.
Another thing, did you miss the other player? the thief wasn’t alone

I would not have died to burn as I still had my Cleansing fire up and 1k healing power (that’s 4k heals in water) And if you noticed my Endurance goes full because of my Sigil of Energy.

If you do not mind, please PM me explaining the animation on CnD. I understand stealth there is little black swirls, but in the video one second he is walking the next he is on me. There was 0 animation involved. I do not watch the top of the screen, I watch the health bar by the enemies head and watch for animations…

If they want to make CnD have a more vivid/noticeable animation like HB or Pistol Whip, then I think it would be easily avoidable. But no animation at all is kind of stupid..

There is no way to dodge what you never see, that is what im saying. I had 13.8k life in that video, he killed me in basically 3 hits. If the elementalist wasn’t there to Burn me, it would of been 2 more fast auto attacks for 1k+ dmg a hit to kill me. Still under 3 seconds on 3k + Armor…

Someone blamed me for trolling when I said Armor / Toughness doesn’t scale the damage on backstab combo, so the video and screenshot is showing you how much a difference armor makes. None.
