did you even read anything about the new elite spec stuff?
400 points required, and hero point challenges in HoT maps give 10 hero points, where everywhere else in Tyria they give 1.
also your suggestion makes no sense, you’re basically saying “I don’t care about the new content, so let me play the new content.”I don’t want to do those challenges because, like I said open world pve is boring to me, and the wvw way to get them is outrageously costly, 200 wvw ranks and 6000 badges per character???!!!! I want to have other methods of obtaining the hero points. I would not even mind a pvp reward track that gives them. Seriously anything but doing open world pve.
Start saving your liquid WXP, supposedly being converted to WXP boosters which will make those 200 ranks a little faster. Thank god I have so many birthday and celebration boosters that I never found a use for.
The mini gwynefyrdd will cost ten candy corn cobs.
Win.

Currently, just leveling to 80 gives you enough to unlock all the current lines. —I’ve been leveling an engi for the past two weeks, and every few levels you get a lump of hero points as part of the reward for leveling up.
For the elite, you can run hero points in regular pact Tyria, you can do hero points in HoT maps, you can buy them with new WvW currency (maybe there’s a PvP currency too, I can’t recall).
Really, it’s not that bad.
No, they literally tell you to run the whole Tyria and HoT just to get enough Hero Points to unlock Elite spec.
The number of Hero Points you get is fixed from challenges. You can’t get more from leveling.
There’s only 210 or so Hero challenges. Let’s assume HoT would add another 200 Hero Points. (Consider the size of maps is much smaller than the whole Tyria, that’s ALOT)
You need to go through the whole HoT and Tyria just to unlock one Elite spec.Imagine if you have 8 alts and 1 new Revenant.
That’s like asking you to run through the whole Tyria and HoT maps 9 times. You call this ok?
HoT has 40 Hero Challenges… Each gives 10 Hero Points… No need to do old Tyria if you do NOT want to.
In WvW after patch you will have to gain 200 WvW Ranks and 6000 badges to buy all 40 Hero Challenges for Maguuma Jungle which is the 400 Hero Points required for the elite.
The above has to be done for each character as well.
EDIT::: OLD RANKS DO NOT COUNT TOWARDS THE NEW CHALLENGES.
@Roy Cronacher, would it be possible to use this same type of system except a maybe 25% damage reduction on pets in WvW? Pets die instantly in WvW battles and it would help immensely to make some class features available in WvW… Of course percentages can always be tweaked until a balance is found.
This is not currently possible. For this change we made creatures, at the base AI level, look at what they are targeting and what they hit to adjust damage accordingly, it has nothing to do with player damage interactions. Doing this for WvW. adjusting outgoing player damage to minions, is not tech we are currently working on and likely would cause some perf issues as well. Players attack much much more often then creatures. So doing checks on each one of the damage targets from a player can become expensive very quickly. Though, that’s not to say that we won’t ever consider investigating it, but for now this change is specifically for creatures attacking player minions and we’ll be balancing it and seeing how it goes.
Couldn’t this be accomplished with a zone wide buff on minions in WvW areas with a percentage of all incoming damage reduced or greatly increase their mitigation in some way and just have the dmg adjusted as it lands? This seems like it may be a good low hanging fruit option. Because right now any and all minions/pets and even those coming with the elite specializations will be useless absolutely utterly useless in any large scale fights.
Things are rarely that simple. While you may be looking at that from a larger scale fight perspective and it would probably help there, it would create other problems such as making minions too strong and frustrating in smaller to mid scale combat with just a flat reduction always on them.
Maybe possibly look at the pets stats in WvW then… Currently they die so fast it is worthless… The new Ranger pets in HoT are a step in the right direction, they have more Hitpoints and seem to survive better with evasive techniques.
Otherwise a zone wide buff is in need… Maybe make it part of Bloodlust buff. 5% Reduced damage to all minions per Stack of Bloodlust… This gives Rangers/Minionmancers incentive to take the Ruins on each map…
@Roy Cronacher, would it be possible to use this same type of system except a maybe 25% damage reduction on pets in WvW? Pets die instantly in WvW battles and it would help immensely to make some class features available in WvW… Of course percentages can always be tweaked until a balance is found.

Supposedly the Jungle has enough Hero Challenges to get you all hero points needed for Elites. So 40 Hero Challenges in Maguuma Jungle. The old maps 213 Hero Challenges will speed up you process of unlocking Elite if you have them already. Otherwise you can just do the 40 challenges in Maguuma OR gain 200 WvW Ranks and spend around 6000 badges to get the Maguuma Jungle Hero Books from WvW.
Maguuma Jungle Hero Point = 5 Proofs and 150 badges x40 = 200 Ranks (Proofs), 150*40 = 6000 badges
Hello Chris,
I can to enter in game, now all work. Thanks lot!
Are you sure you were talking to Guild Wars 2 Support or a Phishing Email?
Hey all,
As we hurtle toward launch most of my time is locked into Druid and Scrapper changes.
After much tribulation I was able to make a change to WHAO to remove the static boon stack application on Might and Stability stacks being copied; this was actually a fairly difficult change to implement as we don’t really have support for copying boons with preset durations.
This’ll go in with the 23rd.
Hooray for Irenio! Thank you for undoing the knee-jerk reaction of others!
Hey all,
Since the third beta weekend there’s been a lot of great feedback – thanks!
Below are some of the more solid changes to the Druid since the beta weekend that were made to address some concerns regarding net damage loss in a raid, celestial avatar form feeling gated by staff and glyph reward scaling.
…
._
Now this is more like it! Great communication and thank you Irenio!!!
There’ve been some changes to Druid staff, glyphs, traits and Celestial avatar skills.
One change I can mention is that Ancestral Grace will now end as soon as you reach your destination rather than having to wait out the animation. We weren’t able to do this before with point-based movement, but an awesome programmer threw together a way for us to script it in.
As Belzebu calls out: You’ll have to check out the rest of the changes on the 23rd!
Why the secrecy with the Druid changes? Every single change to the other professions elites have been discussed… With the exception of Scrapper. Karl McLain has released changes from BWE3 for the Daredevil and the Dragon Hunter… So sealed lips is not mandatory at this time…
EDIT:: Wrong Post to many tabs open, sorry.

Why is retaliation damage so high…? Cast 1 Meteor shower on a zerg and it does 11k damage to yourself… As a class with a base of 11k Hit points this is horrible…
Try and look past your bias for rangers and understand the point I am making.
Anet has the ability to quickly fix game breaking bugs so they shouldn’t be left in the live game once they are discoveredI don’t like rangers in general, yes, but I’m still able to see things objectively and if you had read my post without prejudice you would’ve noticed.
Most exploits in this game are in game for a week or more. The ranger hotfix might be the only class related hotfix I know of, but I don’t know why it was that fast and why it isn’t with other things. I wouldn’t take that aimed at rangers, it was likely a coincidence.Edit: Spelling
I really think you missed the point… His argument was “Ranger got nerfed in 24 hours because of the ability to 1 shot players due to permanent quickness… But Warriors 1 shotting players for 3 days without a hot fix using a broken ability… Dragon hunters using a broken trap for 3 days… etc…”
On another note, still have perma stealth or “ghost” thieves killing players while never being visible, hot fix? Nope… Mesmers 1 shotting players with 20k+ health with bugged gs 4 ability, hot fix? Nope…
The reasoning: Ranger got nerfed within 24 hours because people cried to developer Roy on Twitter until he promptly nerfed it into a near useless ability. Better than pre-patch because it offered nothing then, but still one of the worse heals for a Ranger to take…
Incentives/Rewards are already in WvW.
Rank up Chests.
Perks to invest Rank Points into.
Experience/Gold/Karma for completing events such as Capturing a Point/Tower/Keep.
Loot Bags.
Beating someone in combat.
Coming in first at the end of the week.
Ect.If you want Reward Tracks, stick to sPvP.
The point is, sPvP has way better rewards, requires 0 gold to play in, and 0 time leveling / gearing…
What do you get when an Asuran mesmer makes clones?
Re-Asuran-ce (Reassurance)
What do you get when a Quaggon takes a Charr baby for a ride in a Charr-car?
A Qoo cat (cool cat) in a kitten (forum humor, think B****in) ride.
Why is Mordremoth all over AsuranTube (youtube)?
He likes to make Vines.
There’ll be more supportive damage for Celestial Avatar by launch… possibly from trait modifications or from skill changes.
An issue which should not be decoupled here is that Celestial Avatar felt gated behind staff use (and troll unguent), which left a ranger with one damage-focused weapon option and one support weapon. I’m making some changes to astral force rate gain to try to address this. Ideally it should be possible to build up your astral force without -needing- to run staff, but running staff should speed up the process by nature of the heals it provides. This would yield the option of running two non-staff weapons while still having Celestial Avatar available.
Celestial Avatar healing is the best available by a decent margin right now. One issue that came up is that the healing coefficients are so insignificant that running with healing stats yields very little reward.
The best healing in the game being available without using any healing power; this is not good for the game.
The berserker meta not be the only consideration requires that other stat combinations be rewarding.
Being able to run two more damage-focused weapons (if that’s your thing) and still have Celestial Avatar available should address some of your offensive concerns if you want to play a bit more offensively as a hybrid. If you want to focus on being the top offense then you probably shouldn’t be selecting the Druid specialization.
That’s all I’m going to say on the subject for now (though I will continue to read constructive feedback here and elsewhere) as there is plenty to be done in order to address these and other issues. /me ducks back to work on Scrapper and Druid.
Running a Druid with full Clerics and Cleric ascended trinkets, the problem I encountered was basically no healing increase. I was disappointed to see the 80 heal per heal of ally only healing for about 86 with 1500+ healing power.
Maybe add in some healing power to power conversions like that found in Nature Magic. The current one is 7% healing power to power, which is very weak since you give up so much damage to run healing. On the other hand, since Nature Magic already has a % healing power to power conversion, maybe add % healing power to precision or something to make on crit sigils viable in clerics gear? Also, I believe CAF #3 was supposed to have a blast finisher, but it didn’t work.
Thanks in advance!
Some recent Ele + Mesmer POV footage. some nice 100-0’s, 1v1’s, 2v4+’s. Enjoy : )
Can u pm me what setup u use for staff ele… That 1 shot thief from him heartseekering through lava font and instant downed was… amazing… I can hit them with full zerk and it still takes a few hits at least.
(TLDR at the end)
As many rangers know, pets are meant to be a rather significant part of the ranger’s DPS; that is made clear when comparing the weapon skills we can use compared to the other classes’. In itself, I feel that is a really good concept for a pet that’s our profession mechanic!
I do not remember the exact % of our damage they are supposed to represent, but I will take a guess that it is around 15-20%.With that number in mind, I’d like to have you take a look at one pet in particular, the new Smokescale pet. Most rangers I’ve talked to felt that the pet did a LOT of damage.
But is it really THAT much?
The main offender is without a doubt it’s Unrelenting Assault, the same skill Revenants get. Indeed, it doesn’t take much testing to realize that it can deal 8-12k damage in that single multi-hit attack.
That attack, however, has 24 seconds cooldown, with a 2 seconds casting time (I’m assuming the CD starts rolling after the skill ends, but would require additional testing).
Another characteristic is the multi-hit part of the attack, which divides it’s damage between multiple targets if there are multiple available. It stays true to the single-target-dps nature of the Ranger, while also being able to hit multiple targets for lower damage (think “Lead The Wind”, to make arrows pierce; instead of being lower damage, it is just harder to line them up with the arrows). An easy comparison would be “Rapid Fire”, Longbow 2 on ranger. It has a 10 seconds cooldown, dealing 6-8k damage without Might, depending on critical hits (Marauder amulet in PvP on a light golem). Which means 18-24k damage in 30 seconds. With Quick Draw, however, it is possible to do that skill about 5 times in 26seconds, with another weapon in the 2nd weapon slot. That skill alone therefore can reach 30-40k damage in 26seconds. In average, that is 35k Damage with that skill alone.
Adding the damage of auto-attacks in-between (or Barrage, LB5), it adds up to around 40-45k damage for the longbow in that 26seconds period.
Adding with the other weapon’s damage (I’ll assume 3-4k/2seconds for 10seconds using a Mainhand-sword’s auto-attack), we reach a total of 55-65k damage in 26 seconds, for an average of 60k on a SINGLE TARGET, which CAN be moving.Adding the pet’s auto-attacks during that period, which are about 1.5k/2seconds, as long as the target isn’t running (we know how much pets miss their targets when they move); assuming 1/2 attacks actually hit, that is 1.5k/4 seconds on a moving target, for ~20seconds, so 6,5k. On a stationnary target (when does that ever happen in PvP? And even in the little raid time I’ve tested, enemies were moving around a fair bit), we could assume it is 13k.
TLDR:
ALL OF THESE ARE WITHOUT MIGHT CALCULATION
Smokescale vs a Single Target over 26seconds:6-10k Unrelenting + 6,5-13k auto-attacks/other skills
Total: 12,5-23k damage, depending on target’s movement and crit. hitsRanger player vs a Single Target over 26 seconds:
40-45k longbow + ~15-20k second weapon (sword Auto was used for that number)
Total: 55-65k damage on single target, regardless of movementSmokescale therefore does ~22.5% of the ranger’s DPS in that same time. With the 15-20% number I’ve estimated, the Smokescale could afford being nerfed by about 10%, but anything more than that would land in the “excessive nerf” zone.
EDIT FOR THE COMPLAINERS, COPY-PASTED FROM MY 2ND POST:
On-topic, I created this thread because as a Ranger, the sheer damage difference between the smokescale and other pets felt huge. As much as I’d love for things to stay the way they are FOR THE SMOKESCALE, I believe such a high damage shouldn’t be exclusive to one pet. I said I was fine with the a 10% nerf, FOR THE SMOKESCALE.
I will also state, right here and right now, that this power level is something I would like for all “Damage Dealer” pets to be able to achieve.2nd Edit:
To be able to achieve, not in the best-case-scenarios like 25might +25Vuln AND TheEnemyIsn’tMoving, but off-the-bat, like those numbers I wrote about the smokescale.
Pet is supposed to be 30% of our DPS… So what is the problem?
All pets are unlocked… Hit K
So it doesn’t say in the tool tip, but the 5th staff skill is actually a water field. That means you can use the blast finisher of staff #3 on top of it for AoE healing. Not sure if this is intended or just missing tool tip text, but it adds a little more synergy between the weapon’s skills.
Celestial avatar #3 is supposed to be a blast finisher too, but currently doesn’t work.
Celestial Form > #3 Lunar Impact not a blast finisher.
Celestial Form > #3 Lunar Impact not a blast finisher.
Options > Controls > Targeting > Target Nearest Enemy
That is what it is set on… It still targets Yellow objects first. Go in WvW, stand by enemy tower and hit Tab. It prioritizes walls / doors / siege before enemies.
If you use Quickdraw trait and Axe 5 (Whirling Defense) the 5 second cast time is longer than the quickdraw trait duration, so it never gets the benefit of 66% cooldown reduction. This can be fixed by adding 2 seconds to quickdraw duration…
^^^ This
So I love the idea of healing but I also love bags lol so in WvW if we run around healing people we won’t be tagging anything so…does this mean we’ll get shafted for bags?
Well, from the stream I gathered this information… Ireno (spelling) was not using any Healing Power gear, and thus was still healing for a good amount. All the skills that heal, also damaged except staff #3 (needs confirmation). So tagging will still be quite possible, while supporting our friends!
At least the above is what I am hoping for.
Legendary Gear as rewards from Raids will have Switchable Stats as described at TwitchCon…
Same thing as legendary weapons thats been in the game since launch…. Thats not a power creep, its still ascended tier, with a quality of life perk…this type of stuff has been in the game since launch….
Actually it hasn’t… Ascended gear was added later on as well as the ability to swap stats on legendaries… I’ve played since beta
Edit: Also, I never mention a power creep. I was just stating a generalization.
Legendary Gear as rewards from Raids will have Switchable Stats as described at TwitchCon…
Currently Toughness is WORTHLESS… As a WvW player, there is no difference between no Toughness and 4k Armor. This comes from experience, go Toughness, lose all damage and die in 1 second due to all the damage / condi’s received. Go Damage, Die in same amount of time. Go Condi, Possibly do damage and die and down at least 1 enemy due to OP burning.
Oh yeah, P.S. NERF BURNING
In WvW targetting someone can be a nightmare with all the spell effects, names, and chaos going on… When a player hits TAB to Target Enemy, I would LOVE for it to NOT TARGET the YELLOW/NON-DAMAGEABLE WALLS/Gates/Siege and Prioritize ENEMY PLAYERS.
Can we please get a boon / condition par for out pet?
This gets even more important with the druid where we can copy all the boons of the pet to ourself.First focusing the pet to see how much might it has is really not practical mid-fight.
+1000000000000000000000000
Gail why do the devs dislike ranger? Is there a way we can get a dev to have more interaction with the community so that we can get this class fixed?
Kitty — you can’t believe that! If there’s a dev who provably “hates” Rangers, I’ll hunt him down and TP his desk! I’ll put Honey Nut Cheerios in his burrito! I’ll wreak havoc every way from Sunday!
I have talked to Irenio a lot, and I’ll continue to talk to him. And I’ll talk to, wave my hands in the air, and natter with any other dev who wants to get the feedback of a not-very-good-but-absolutely-passionate Ranger.
Why can’t we have nice things? I have seen the work Roy has done on the Revenant and was very impressed with all the changes… But to take personal tweets about the balance of something and knee-jerk fix it is wrong.
Give engineers healing bombs back, give Rangers throwable traps and moving spirits… Un-Realistic is not the correct reason for Rangers not throwing traps… This is a fantasy world where I can hurl fireballs and shoot lasers from a sword … Magic traps are not an unbelievable thing.
ALSO: On a side note Quickdraw needs a duration increase to make Axe 5 work… The duration of quickdraw is over before the skill cast time of Whirling defense, oh and make Whirling Defense usable while moving… This is a QOL change kind of like Guardian shield skill is now usable while moving.
Bumping for a fix, they Hotfixed we heal as one, so maybe they can add 1 or 2 seconds to this trait to get it Fixed…
and so, guard becomes useless once again.
Well, I guess i can still use it to travel until Druid swiftness comes out :/
why isnt protection being copied from my pet to me?
People moaned and complained to the Devs on twitter and they knee-jerk balanced it… So, it is just a heal again.
Look at all the red posts. Let this night go down in history as The Ranger Riots of 1328 AE.
And rightly so.
Nothing will turn eyes away faster than a riot. Don’t even go there! (Even if you were kidding, which I hope you were.
)
Let’s provide actual, gameplay-based feedback and look for changes in the future. But let’s not post to be rude, comment to add nothing, or repeat endlessly the same reactions. Give details, give solid input, that’s what we should do. And yes, “we” includes… me!
Haha yeah I was joking sorry. The change to WHaO originally was too much imo and I think that the current functionality is a nice little buff to a heal that was in a decent place before it received any changes at all. Am fine with the change.
I am sorry, but after 3 years the Ranger got a decent buff and you complained until it was changed within 24 hours… Sure it needed a little bit of shaving, but after 24 hours they destroyed this skill.
On the other hand, if Ranger is not supposed to boon stack by sacrificing 99% of condi removal, then why can elementalist stack so many boons and survive and damage.
Why can mesmers basically 1 shot people with a GS / Mind wrack combo doing almost 20k damage?
The way to fix this skill was not by making it near worthless, but by shaving it, SLOWLY… Funny thing is, I have played since headstart and ANet says they do not make knee jerk reactions to balance…
Well then this can be fixed easily… Increase the duration of Quickdraw to 7 seconds…
If you use Quickdraw trait and Axe 5 (Whirling Defense) the 5 second cast time is longer than the quickdraw trait duration, so it never gets the benefit of 66% cooldown reduction.
The way it was explained during the stream, he had no healing gear on… So this is to make it beneficial to Rangers/Druids to use the staff with their gear. I however will be trying it out with other gear.
Since this is the official feedback thread…
During the stream they said the new Shadow* pet that creates a smoke screen evades all attacks while inside the smoke field… However, if you watched the stream the pet clearly takes damage while the smoke screen is active… Takes damage 2×.
For all the Druid complaints I’ve seen, this thread seems to show that it is actually very popular… I for one cannot wait for the Druid, I have sooo much planned for him. My pet will be my DPS, I will be able to keep it alive pretty easily I believe. Good condi removal, constant 25 might stacks? Booya!
I don’t main ranger but the idea of a druid healer intrigues me that I’m going to give it a try next BWE/ maybe at HoT. Glancing at the pet list though, only the moa’s and fern hounds have any access to healing (and the former isn’t an f2 skill so is kinda random).
Looking at the new pets, wyverns are dps (fire = condi), smokescreen = evasion tank/ dps, brissle back = condi dps and I guess tigers will be felines so again dps.
Just wondering if fern hounds are the only option for healer speced druids or will there be other pets or have I missed something?
Personally I’d love a healing based wyvern… what? one can dream
Actually expect Bears to be prominent… With the traits that heal allies around you and your pet, combined with Shake It Off from bear… Condi removal and heals??? Lol. Honestly never used bear, but I may just try it… Bear will be able to tank while Druid heals / dps’ at same time. I have SOOOO many ideas I want to try.
During the stream they said the new pet that creates a smoke screen evades all attacks while inside the smoke field… However, if you watched the stream the pet clearly takes damage while the smoke screen is active…
As title asks, since you are making a dedicated healer role, will Healing finally give event credit/exp/etc…
Nice video man.
Please fix this before release…. https://youtu.be/xPRKaMTJDSA?t=4m20s At 4:21 Revenant uses Shiro utility to teleport through walls… He using his 8th ability or his F key 2 times. One teleports him to the wall, second teleports him up into the clocktower without any visible path… Is this supposed to work this way cause “walking through the mist” ???
Could you imagine doing this into WvW keeps / towers??
It has the same functionality as other shadowstep skills such as Signet of Infiltration on thief.
As long as it doesn’t go through keep walls, then all is good!

Well guardians, thieves, mesmers do it all the time now..let us have this power too :P
Those 3 classes also have Path checks I believe… Just like Elementalists Lightning Flash…
