What happens when you slot a dungeon rune into a Fine (blue) armor? Typically fine gear can’t be soulbound, so that might allow you to transfer runes between characters, albeit at the cost of a Black Lion’s salvage kit (or a mystic salvage kit if you want a cheaper, but slightly less reliable, alternative).

i can’t understand why people are so against them. with them being developed, resources aren’t pouring into more important things?

what utter BS. not developing mounts or capes for years now did didn’t help them develop precursor crafting right?

Well, look at it this way: content has been coming out at the current rate without mounts being on the plate, so diverting resources into mounts is just going to slow everything else down. Just because they haven’t delivered on previously mentioned features yet doesn’t mean they’re sitting around doing nothing, so another project would definitely have to suffer in order for them to work on mounts (much like how previous projects probably had to be put on hold to shift focus onto the April 15th patch and LS season 2).

It depends on whether or not you think that’s an acceptable tradeoff; while I think it would be amusing to ride a Charr armored bike around (seriously, if they have mounts in GW2 they would definitely need racial mounts), I wouldn’t want it at the expense of everything else that still needs polishing.

It’s very much like how armor skins used to be: they want you to spend pay price for each tool/skin for each character, because then it’s more likely you won’t have enough gold for gem conversion and roll your credit card instead.

Wardrobe made armor skins a bit better in that you still get dinged additional charges for using it more than once/on multiple characters, but the cost is only a fraction (and potentially free) of how much it used to cost. It would be nice if infinite tools got a similar treatment: pay full price for your first set, but get a discount for each subsequent set.

You can probably be reasonably sure your Amazon login information isn’t going to get compromised (and if it does you’re going to be alerted pretty quickly), but some fan/guild site whose admin stopped maintaining a long time ago? Chances are it’ll be compromised, if it hasn’t already, and someone will be trying that email/password combo on every MMO to see if they get lucky.

Outfits and the future of Armor.

Pandaman.4758

You never could mix town clothes and armor though. Before the wardrobe update you could mix and match town clothes, but only with other town clothes.

The lack of customization is a step backwards IMO, but in this specific case it hasn’t changed anything.

I think the argument is that resources are going into producing Outfits that are essentially worthless for customizing our characters’ appearances, but if Outfits turn out to be financially successful it might encourage more Outfits to be produced instead of new armor skins.

That aside, I still think ANet should have upgraded the Town Clothes system to allow clothes to be displayed in combat (with a toggle), then introduced the Heritage and ninja outfits as new mix-n-matchable town clothes; that would have given players the option to keep their town clothes look, made the new outfit assets more versatile (ability to dye individual pieces, ability to hide/not use oversized pauldrons, etc.), and (this part is a pipe dream) maybe, just maybe, make it easier to remove weight restrictions on armor skins (by transitioning skins to the Town Clothes system rather than remodeling each armor set two more times for each weight class). I understand it wouldn’t have been easy, but the Outfits system as-is makes none of that possible.

It happens with every new things. People buy it, wear it for a while then revert back to what they really like once the novelty has worn off.

Kinda suspected that, I can’t really see Outfits doing much better than Town Clothes if it’s driven largely by novelty; people are eventually going to look back at their wardrobe full of unused outfits, start regretting spending that much, and stop buying new outfits.

To be fair, it’s perfectly reasonable to expect a skin that you paid 1/5th the retail price of a full game to be reusable without additional costs, so I wouldn’t blame Sylent for making the mistake; that being said, wardrobe is a massive improvement in that we don’t have to pay full price for a set each time we want to use the skin (or part of the skin) on another character.

Of course, the problem is ANet makes no distinction between gems purchased with money or converted from gold, so there’s no way to flag a skin as “bought with real money, infinite use” or “bought with gold, ‘encourage’ them to spend real money”.

At the risk of going on a slight tangent to this topic, but has the popularity of the Ancestral Outfit dropped off? I did decently against the Mordrem champ as a ranger, but melee was definitely far more preferable than ranged: no vines to deal with and Lightning Reflexes was enough to clear the poison field it drops, though the sword 2 skill also worked in a pinch (when I’m not knocked by random worgs, that is).

Depends on your build, I’ve found that a lot of the achievements are a pain because they either require a lot of dodging or have objectives that keep popping up on different parts of the map (teleporting sylvari bomber, escorting exploding zombies, bouncing between mender and statue, etc.), which puts a lot of pressure on melee builds. Ranged builds have a much easier time about it, moreso if they have knockback/immobilize.

Most of my characters also carry a second set of armor, typically Berserker or Soldier, for situations like this one. I’d suggest you also invest in an alt set/build as well, so you can stick to playing how you want most of the time and switch out when the game starts penalizing you for that.

Possible Own Item Creation?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pandaman.4758

Pandaman.4758

This is only possible if the MMO supports streaming updates (meaning the game will update as you play, no need to restart the client to see new content), which GW2 does not; even if it did, allowing the community the ability to publish content freely creates massive server loads and connectivity issues, not to mention absolutely juvenile and/or stolen content popping up everywhere (do you really want GW2 to become Second Life?).

There was another thread where someone mentioned SOE started a user submission program, where you can create something, upload it to SOE, and let them decide whether or not it’s appropriate to go into the game; however it’s unlikely even that would happen because the chances of someone sneaking in a model that they stole from another game/modder are fairly high and it’s impossible for a moderator to catch them all, so that just exposes ANet to legal liabilities.

There’s even quite a few outfits that wouldn’t work as clothing, unless you packed a month-worth supply of double sided tape. Especially among some of the light armors.

Such as this one:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/9/99/Flamekissed_Light_Armor_Skin_human_female_front.jpg

Female parts would not hold that top up, unless it came with double sided tape, or was made out of a fiberglass shell. It’s like the designers never heard of straps, or just don’t know where to put them.

Don’t discount safety pins.

It’s a nice nod to the people who supported the game back in the day and it’s even nicer that they’ve kept GW1 for people to still get the skins. By all accounts getting the points for all the skins is fairly easy, it’s getting the titles that require lots and lots of grinding.

To be fair, the artists making these weapons aren’t under the illusion that they’re remotely practical, so pointing out the flaws isn’t much of an argument. A lot of people like these over-the-top designs (I’m not one of them, however) and that’s who they’re appealing to; if we want to see more practical and elegant designs, we just have to convince them that there’s an equally large (or large enough) audience to make appealing to us worth the effort.

No how idea we could go about accomplishing that, sadly.

"Consume All" - Quality of Live

in Living World

Posted by: Pandaman.4758

Pandaman.4758

Well, given that most RNGs use time as a component of its seed, a “consume all” option might heavily skew the results of opening boxes; it’s likely a majority people will get nothing, but a few outliers will wind up getting an exotic/ascended for every box opened.

Thats how RNG works.
With this feature you would have the option to use it, but you don’t have to,
if this breaks the “feeling” for you of opening rng boxes.
I’m just tired of breaking my hand by klicking through everything.
The same should be done with vendors, so you can choose how much of a
specific Item you want to buy, so you don’t have do klick million times for obsidian shards or items that even need confirmation each time (icy rune stones)…

Er, no, I’m not saying it’s a “feeling”, I’m saying “consume all” can potentially break an RNG.

Warning: long winded explanation incoming.

RNGs work by taking a seed and applying it to a mathematical formula to produce a wide variety of seemingly random results, but ultimately it’s still a formula; if you input the same seed ten time into the formula, you get the same results ten times. Almost every RNG uses the time and date as part of the seed, because it’s a number that’s constantly changing, and ANet’s RNG isn’t going to be any different (why reinvent the wheel, after all); a “consume all” function will cause all boxes in a stack to be opened with the exact same time and date, which means the results of the RNG will be exactly the same as well, which in turn means using “consume all” on a stack of boxes will likely give you the exact same loot for each box in the stack.

So the only way ANet can avoid this is if a) they use a non-time dependent, constantly changing value for the RNG seed or b) code “consume all” to work like the crafting queue and opens a box/use a consumable once per second; the former is highly unlikely while the latter can increase server loads in unexpected ways.

End long-winded explanation.

As for clicking things, the oft-suggested solution is to temporarily bind your left-click to the mouse wheel, though it certainly would be nice if vendors had an interface that allowed you to select how much of a good you want to buy and sell.

I’m not disabled, so I don’t share your perspective on disabled characters, but I never thought of Taimi’s disability to be some attempt at tugging at heart strings; it was an aspect of her character, which she manages by herself for the most part, and the only thing that really caused concern was her dogged pursuit of everything Scarlet. Every time Taimi stops to investigate Scarlet by herself, my thought isn’t “oh geez, don’t leave the disabled kid by herself”, it’s “oh geez, she’s either going to wind up a pile of ashes with a bow tie on top or go completely insane”.

As for Braham… that’s just dumb. Sorry, don’t mean to offend, but seriously: gentle giants are a cliche that existed long before the feminism movement. There’s nothing “feminist” about the stereotype, it’s just something that’s frequently used for characters who are either meant to be followers and/or not to be villains; being offended by something like that just makes you look hypersensitive.

I am nto really sure why bleeding and other conditions are capped to 25? Everyone should be able to deal hi damage and that’s it. But no, you have only 10 options for a build in pvp (10 amulets), you can not play a condition build because 200 ppl can only have 25 stacks:) load of xxx:)

I believe the cap is to prevent conditions from become too overpowered in PvP/WvW (it’s already pretty hefty as-is), but the downside is it basically cripples condition builds in group PvE events. If they remove the cap, conditions will become useful again in group PvE, but then PvP/WvW players will suffer when zergs instantly drop 100 stacks of bleed/poison and the DoT kills people faster than they can heal/cleanse.

I had to try this twice because one of the NPCs died and couldn’t be resurrected, but I believe the trigger for this bug is if you attack any of the mobs en route to Lindsay – once the PC damages them, they can permanently kill NPCs they attack, even if the NPC hasn’t spawned yet.

It’s a similar observation to dulfy’s, where the guide suggests you not attack mobs engaged with the NPCs because if you fail to save them they can’t be resurrected.

[Suggestion] Condition Burst

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pandaman.4758

Pandaman.4758

Due to various balancing and server load issues, it’s unlikely we’ll ever see the condition cap removed or separate condition stacks for each player, so I had a crazy thought: how about condition bursts?

The basic idea is that you still have a cap on condition damage, but once the cap is hit the condition stack will instantly “burst” for its damage multiplied by remaining time left on the stack (so that condition damage and condition duration would remain desirable stats); once the condition has burst, it will wipe the condition and allow players to start building stacks again (possibly with a short buff that prevents additional stacks of that particular buff from being applied for a couple seconds, to mitigate possible condition burst spam).

This would allow multiple condition build characters to participate in group events without becoming uselessly redundant, provide a means for said characters to burst those massive HP pools that bosses enjoy, and introduce a new cooperative dynamic beyond the standard combos.

Of course, I understand that this would make conditions even more devastating in PvP/WvW, so perhaps instead of a straight damage * remaining time burst, it can be a burst for a percentage of health (of which is determined by condition damage and duration stats).

Or maybe I’m just babbling and should get some rest.

Answer: No. As we’ve seen, Mordremoth seems to be going after specific waypoints, not all of them (specifically ones closer to ley lines), and Taimi’s already working up a way to protect waypoints from getting snared by it later on.

Actually, he isn’t going after specific waypoints, in both Concordia and Fort Salma there were powerful artifacts in proximity to the waypoints when the vines appear: the former had Krytan artifacts passing by, while the latter had Krait shards from the Tower of Nightmare.

Mordremoth is seeking out powerful magic items, just as Zhaitan did with his Eyes and Mouths, but it looks like he’s using the leylines/waypoint network as his “web” (borrowing the analogy Taimi used) and sending vines whenever an artifact gets near it (though it’s odd the Priory wasn’t amongst the first attacked then, maybe their artifacts aren’t quite as powerful as Krait shards and current-ruler amulet?).

It would not at all suprise me if inventory bags were subject to MF.

Is RNG Fun?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pandaman.4758

Pandaman.4758

The real question is whether there is an alternative that is better than the current system. The answer is no – without completely reconfiguring the game there is no system that would work better than what is already in place. There are small tweaks that can, have and currently are being made, but demanding sweeping changes to the system is futile, what you’re asking for will destroy the game in the long run, and only make the imbalance between casual players and grinders even bigger in the short run.

Actually, the PvP reward track is a nice example of a system already in place that incorporates RNG without ignoring effort. You can still get lucky with a precursor or ascended box drop, but there is fixed reward at the end you can work toward.

Alternatively ANet can just make a repeatable achievement with a reward box at the end, just like the repeatable activities achievements (Southsun Survival Regular, Belcher’s Bluff Regular, etc.); have one for each world boss and repeatable content (like Queen’s Gauntlet) where you are guaranteed a hoard after killing Teq a hundred times (that’s still over three months of effort if you do once a day, every day) or a Chaos of Lyssa after repeating the Gauntlet a thousand times.

Where can we spend Gauntlet tickets?

in Living World

Posted by: Pandaman.4758

Pandaman.4758

But when it was up, you could only spend them to run the gauntlet, which was both annoying and way too time consuming. It would have taken be hundreds of hours to get through all those tickets. They need a way to just convert them into something useful, even at an exchange rage of less than a copper per ticket.

Well, with four gambits five thousand tickets would have been a thousand fights, a Zerk warrior against Hamli only takes roughly 30 seconds per round (time on the catwalk talking to NPCs included, assuming you had an arena all to yourself with nobody else in queue), so the total would come to… 8 hours and 20 minutes. Even if you took a full minute per round that would still be 16 hours and 40 minutes, so it would have been doable if you slowly chipped away at it over the course of a month rather than saving it all up until the end.

Now if the blade shard vendor taught us anything it’s that post-event conversion will be an afterthought at most, so you can keep the tickets to do the gauntlet next time for a pathetically low chance at something decent, keep them in the vain hope there will be a ticket vendor (who will give you trash that isn’t worth the space you wasted holding onto the tickets for), or simply save yourself the grief and trash them.

Yet! The correct response it “yet”. I’m assuming that the dev’s have something in mind for the stat in the future.

Yes, I did bring up this possibility in an earlier (now deleted) thread, but that doesn’t change the fact it’s speculation based on circumstantial evidence and doesn’t change the fact that the Nomad set is in a terrible place right now.

I mean, really, they haven’t made the monk class yet, but that doesn’t justify me stripping naked and trying to punch Teq to death.
