Excited to change things up, really want to finish up my Explorer title not gunna happen with FA Let’s keep it civil folks and see some great fights.

My predictions for the forums this week…

Friday : Everyone starts out being polite and sharing how fun it will be for some different competition
Saturday : “something about great fights with that one guy from that other server and I had a lot of fun stomping you over and over”
Sunday : Threads quiet, everyone running dungeons for a day
Monday : OG has now established their dominance on the forums as the best small guild EVER, constantly reminding any posters from other servers that they’re willing to fight below SS camp. Members of EB and CD begin to post videos where they claim “Bunzy ran away” from a fight… Bunzy denies.
Tuesday : “something about any party larger than 6 people is a zerg”
Wednesday : Paralda tries to calm everyone down but it doesn’t work and thread get’s locked.
Thursday : Every time someone loses a fight it’s because Shadow Refuge still screws with culling and they were zerged. Argument ensue, Paralda tries again to calm everyone down, doesn’t work, second thread get’s locked.
Friday : Everyone is bored with the matchup and looking forward to reset. A handful of congratulations are given out and a few more people claiming “Bunzy ran away” … Bunzy again extends offers for “fair fights” below SS camp after reset… no one agrees.

I think that pretty much sums up every Mag thread over the past month, so I’m guessing we’ll see similar.

There’s some identity crisis going on in Mag I think.

Something like that, some of us think we’ll have low enough numbers to make T4 fun. It’ll be impossible to tell until it actually happens. Anecdotally speaking, we had a lot less people on during the reset (two maps with low queues instead of four maps). It could be low morale (what I believe) or people leaving (what other people believe), but two queues is (was?) about the population size at reset in T4.

I still think we would faceroll T4 and then cry halfway through the week about not wanting to go back to T3.

Yea I try to speak out against the trolls who are critical of players learning the ropes. I think more just need to speak out.

I don’t know if trolling is why people don’t follow commanders. I think most old Maguuma players are just so used to no icons that we auto pilot on what we should be doing based on that map, so sometimes icons get ignored.

That does happen especially when the threat isn’t great. But often times, new commanders are shamed and embarrased publicly so that they don’t leave their icon on. THey don’t end up leading much and learning much. The server is then dependent on the playing schedule of a few well known commanders. This is just to point out that there is an attitude issue with some players on Maguuma against newbies and it hurts the server in the long run.

Commanders shouldn’t turn on their icons when they want to learn. They should turn on their icons once they know what they’re doing.

erm, that doesn’t make sense whatsoever! How can a commander practice being a commander with out having a tag on that attracts not only his guildmembers, but also pugs?

We have a couple of commanders, that where new, but really good players and our community seems to feel at ease when they see commander icons in BL. Now i agree in EB, it gets a little crazy as there are like 4 to 8 commanders on and some of them i wouldn’t follow, because i don’t really know them. If i don’t wanna follow them just join a commanders squad or do whatever u like. Let them have their tag. Tag doesn’t mean to blindly follow.

While I agree that that sentence isn’t right, I think his real point was that when people new to WvW come in with icons and are very assertive in what they’re doing, even when it’s plainly a bad move, they’re doing it wrong. I’ve seen a few of these guys pop out of the woodwork and it’s really annoying. You don’t need to preach to us that we don’t need to blindly follow icons because we usually don’t, but there are almost always people who do follow icons blindly, and that is a net loss for us. New commanders need to admit that they are new and be willing to take advice, and they also need to not be so unknown to the WvW population to at least inspire some amount of confidence. For example, Montzor from NOVA is a pretty new commander, but I’ve seen him around so long that I know he’s at least a reasonable person. Some of the others? Not so much.

I agree completely with this, I was just pointing out that not everyone is as reasonable as you.

However, I don’t want to cause any drama. I was just pointing it out.

This is actually true. I have 6 or 7 icons in my guild, and only 2 ever use them. Maguuma isn’t very friendly to new commanders.

No I just call it as I see it, you want to claim victory on the fact you are “superior in organization” when in reality it’s just numbers. Since the last time we were in t4 we lost 6-8 guilds. How many did you gain YB? YB skill level is about the same as Kaineing Pugs, get real here.

We had lost a few guilds to the bandwagon servers (DB, Kain, Mag) that moved through us on their way up but we did gain at least 3-4 new guilds (at least two Chilean guilds, one of a decent size) since then so we have probably stayed the same or very slightly increased in population.

Anet that was active during Gw1 before 2006~ was the best customer service I have experienced to this day.

It’s terrible that even Gaile Grey cannot communicate as she had in Gw1, either she is being suppressed from doing so; OR whoever makes the decision, decided that keeping an open line of communication is not necessary if your goal is to deceive for quick profits then back with false promises.

The gem store would have never happened in Gw1 because Gw1 was too busy trying to grow the amount of players in Gw rather than what will make more short-term profit.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Nexon has had some say in the customer service/press department…

Every other game I’ve played has been far more relaxed with their moderation, and somehow the world didn’t end. The forums were still active and enjoyable. The posters didn’t all turn into vicious savages. There is absolutely no need for the strictness of the moderation here.

Yeah. I played Darkfall… and the forums were much more enjoyable (probably the best part about the game). Even WoW has less strict mods.

TBH I think ANET has too much on their plate and I think we’ll be lucky if we get any feedback from them on the well your noted points. They are pretty good at keeping us out of the loop when it comes to upcoming changes that are in progress. Lets hope for a nice suprise in March for WvW updates, I really don’t think we’ll see much this month.

Oddly enough, they were the polar opposite during the betas. Hell, I still have PMs from guildwars2guru from Anet staff.

It’s not scientific, however, I haven’t seen anything that points to an improvement in culling aside from a small minority of players.

I feel as if mist people voting in that poll are either mostly upset (people with no problems don’t come on forums to complain), or are suffering from confirmation bias.

I could be wrong, but the difference in culling has been extreme. Perhaps it’s a rendering issue for those still having problems?

People who win all the time, or at least frequently, don’t have to talk kitten because they have been there before and its nothing new. I’m from Maguuma, and I’m pretty sure we hold the record for the most threads locked. I don’t say this to bait the mods (really, keep reading, I promise), or to kitten anyone off… but Maguuma really likes to kitten talk. As I’ve seen in our threads, so do a lot of other servers… however, on these forums, I feel like we’re almost set up for failure.

WvW is very nationalistic, in a sense. Tribe like, almost. You fight for your server and kill the bad guys. When you win fights, you want to brag, and when you lose, you want to QQ. Nowhere really provides an outlet for this, that I can tell. On these forums, if you talk about how you just wiped 50 noobs with half their numbers, you’ll get infracted. If you complain about an underhanded tactic, the same will happen.

I understand what the ToS says, I guess I just don’t understand why there can’t be a separate ToS for the WvW forums specifically. Mike Ferguson was a DAoC guy, and he should be able to relate to this… kitten talking is fun. Beating people is fun, even trolling is fun. Why can’t I brag when I win? Why can’t I rebuke someone else’s brag?

I’m not saying I hate the other servers… I don’t think anyone who kitten talks actually does. Maguuma is playing Fort Aspenwood and Dragonbrand right now, and I really like the communities on those two servers. I would, however, also like to be able to treat them the same way on the forums as I treat them in game, and I don’t have an outlet for that.

What else are we supposed to talk about on a forum like this, anyway?

Welp Mag 1.5 would likely still stomp everyone in Tier 4 if they dropped.

You guys beat Yaks by 414,000 points last time. Even in an absolutely worst case scenario you would likely still beat Yaks opponents by 100k or more.

If you want fights…Tier 3 is where its at for you.

Yaks literally decided to not log on after the reset, so I don’t know if that’s a totally representative score.

Our population has quieted down a lot since t3. We had hours of 4 queue reset, and we get maybe 2 for an hour now. We were doing 2 queue weekday prime times and we get none now that I’ve seen.

As long as the guys that haven’t shown up for a month stay away we’re t4 pop now.

Our resets are still really strong. If we dropped to T4, all of the fairweather players would show up again miraculously, catapulting us back into T3, then promptly would stop playing for another month.

I think we have to accept that T3 is where we’re going to stay, and try to encourage those fairweather players to play with us here, or we’re just going to bounce back and forth. It’s not like they’re going to pay 35+ gold to transfer.

This is true, although we usually split into 2-4 squads…sometimes coming together to form up and wipe a force that may be the same size or so.

ie. One squads runs into you head first, the other may flank around and do clean up.

Honestly though we are only 40+ on the reset/weekends. During the week it usually goes down…

It’s still very impressive, and leads to some good fights. Sometimes, however, playing against FA feels like the zombie apocalypse.

Considering Maguuma is 90% pugs, when we see guild groups bigger than half of an enemy zerg, we just lump them all together.

However, GODS seems to legitimately run with 40+.

As a guild leader on a very militia esque server, I wish I could run with a consistent 15. I only get those numbers on reset.

Or more so, when they just make match threads against the rules entirely.

Check out the BG/KN/TC Thread, prime example as to how Match Threads can go, positive mostly. Even SoR misses participating on the Forums with us, and other T1 server members would rather post in our thread than their own.
