As school and work is starting again, and many of us won’t be able to log in until later, can we get some more score updates?
Anyone want to do a fight club in Mag bl SS camp?
Sorry for the bad fights in eternal the past couple hours, SBI/CD. I was kind of commanding on autopilot and hadn’t really eaten breakfast/woken up yet. Hopefully we can give you better fights later.
Glad to see how much you guys are still playing, normally when we drop to T4, it’s not very fun.
C’mon guys, don’t play unfair or we’ll start actually playing.
Maguuma is continually repairing a wall that’s being trebbed… Yup, it’s blowout week.
Yay alt level week!
I can’t command this reset, so please keep score updates and whatnot coming.
I’m very interested in this match. Please keep this thread updated.
Also: Paralda Hax :>
(DB’s Spawn^^;)ww
Pfft. Everyone else is just bad at dodging.
So… we had to /join on their commander to tell them the wall was down while they built open field trebs and arrow carts…
Please try to take SM again, TC. We’re getting bored.
Mag isn’t even close to the skills we have faced. I doubt you will get the response on the forums you are looking for. Most of us find these attacks rather funny.
This.
And the same can be said of lower tiers.
I agree. The only outlier is Mag.
Comical, your groups seem totally incapable of understanding even the simplest of tactics like might stacking.
Maybe if a few of you spent more time in game and less telling everyone how amazing you are on the forums you’d fair a little better.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen TC stack for might… or have more than 20% of their zergs be level 80.
Not many on Maguuma really record video, but here’s a pretty good one.
This happened last time we fought Maguuma, even when we were on CD.
They pull the “lol we never die and pwn you guys so hard” card out. Then they talk about how bad we are.
And then when they actually go up against organized guild groups they all get dominated and promptly leave the BG while blaming numbers.
Guys, it’s getting a bit tired.
Yup, that’s what always happens. Please, tell me more. Because CD never did this! Oh no no no.
It is what always happens. When I first heard we were going up against Maguuma again, I told my guildies that we would be seeing the “we never die!” card being thrown out again. Sure enough, there it is.
Why don’t you guys stop trolling the forums and try playing the game for once, you might actually have fun.
Until then I am going to keep RP’ing. I like collecting badges while dressing up like a pretty pirate.
No way! Maguuma is in the same situation and you guessed that we would react the same way?! Please teach me, sensei! . It’s not hard to guess how forums warriors are gonna act, just as how we know how TC and CD acts. Nothing changes. If you’re tired of it, go have fun.
But the fact that you’ve been trolling as well kind of makes you seem like you should be practicing what you preach.
I love TC, I really do. But this.
If you find yourself writing a mini novella in response to something here .. hit cancel and go take your dog for a walk. In the history of the interwebs, nobody manages to convince anyone of anything they don’t already believe. Trying only makes both parties involved look silly.
I can also appreciate how my offbeat attempt at comedy as I ventured into this thread may have been misconstrued. We were so used to doing it as the underdogs in Tier 2, that it kind of became a fun and silly way to relieve some burn out and stress .. plus make some friends along the way.
While I don’t think we’ll ever hit the level of friendship we had in our recent T2 matchup thread, I am still hoping we can at least muster up a bit of respect for each other.
Without the cartoons, you’re pretty cool. I don’t want to be friends with you, but I’ll toss some respect your way.
TC survived in T2 and garnered the respect of BG, SoR, KA, SBI , guilds and other guilds from the T1 bracket in game and on the forums. We are proud to have been able to be so competitive and create friends from other servers. That is already something great that we’ve accomplished. We all need to improve, we know where we need to improve, and we’ll improve on it. But the thing is, do we really need to go all super try hard trying to improve and lose ourselves in that? We’d rather have fun and improve along our own pace which may be a faster improvement or a slower one, who knows.
I dunno, I just want some good fights. Even if I’m losing to FA, I can have fun fighting them. Playing against TC while losing just isn’t fun.
Next understand that TC as a community has a lot of militia presence spread among lots of small guilds. If as a guild group you are priding yourself on the back of wiping mixed-militia groups then you are easily pleased. Do fight our established guild groups then make an assessment, we have several good open-field specialist guilds who would gladly help in maguuma’s ‘evolution’.
P.S. 1pko
Thank you for admitting that TC has more players than the servers you’re facing.
You pride yourselves on your militia (which Maguuma just calls “players”), but then you mention that you have organized guilds who would stomp us. Who and where are they? Maguuma doesn’t rely on any one guild to carry a reputation. If we ever organized an actual gvg fight (lol not 30v30), you’d see a mix of guild tags.
Also, to whoever said we claim to never die, I die quite often. I think you’re trying to incite a flame war which is against the forum rules.
Yeah, I don’t understand the whole “militia” thing. Our players rarely have more than 5 from one particular guild together… If you guys don’t train every player, how are you going to win when there’s no guild events going on?
Super servers like SoS/HoD/JQ/ET etc all relied on guilds to have coverage of everything… when one of those guilds didn’t show, they would get stomped, and if one guild transferred, the whole server would collapse. You don’t want to rely only on guild events, I think.
TC, your coverage and population is great, but if you guys want to win in T2, I really think it’s your open field combat that hurts you.
You are right though. There are a lot of situations on TC where people are afraid to fight in the open. But the thing is, I don’t think my fellow server mates want to win in T2 – they just want to have fun. That is why we moved to TC – because we might lose a lot, but the main focus of this server is still to have fun. We could have bandwagoned to BG or SoS a long time ago, but we stayed on CD until a few people on TC finally convinced us to switch over and start having fun.
So we have a few guilds who are really coordinated and great at PVP, while our militia (numbers) will keep playing and having fun. I don’t see it as a bad thing. None of us want to be a superserver, because those superservers are toxic.
I’m glad to hear that about you not wanting to be superserver, because I agree. However, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with trying to help your server improve on the open field. You can’t rely on “militia” forever, if they’re untrained. No one likes getting wiped over and over again, even if the score is like this.
Yeah, I don’t understand the whole “militia” thing. Our players rarely have more than 5 from one particular guild together… If you guys don’t train every player, how are you going to win when there’s no guild events going on?
We call our players that keep showing up and fighting back despite not being in a big, organized guild our ‘militia’. They find it a bit more gratifying than just being called ‘pubs’.
Why differentiate at all? A 30 man of Maguuma players is just as good as a 30 man of any organized guild we have on the server, I think.
Last night in eternal, I had 5 PYRO, 5 ME, and 25+ randoms. We destroyed in the open field… it doesn’t matter who we have. We don’t treat any of our players like second class citizens.

Guys, it’s getting a bit tired.
The only large guild I remember dying to from CD was KOME, back when they had hundreds active… but okay.
It’s not all about numbers, really. I’ll admit that we haven’t been showing up as much as we’d like to, but you guys are doing yourself a disservice by not trying to improve your open field combat.
Watch some VOTF videos, learn new strategies, give me good fights please!
If anyone wants to work on 1v1s, 5v5s, 10v10s, 15v15s, even 20v20s (I can probably pull in some other guilds, I doubt I’ll ever get 20 PYRO outside of reset) just pm me anytime. I’ll be gone Monday-Wednesday morning, but I’d be willing to set something up tonight.
I find the hardest thing about fighting Maguuma is keeping my bags from being full.
Probably should upgrade from 4 slots.
In all seriousness, though, I really find myself having to ask for merchants be dropped 5-6 times per night. In the 3-4 hours I was commanding last night in eternal, we had to drop merchants 5 times.
The new loot tables are great.
^ See, we can keep dancing in this tune all you want. Who has more kills, who has more skills, who has more brains. It’s always gunna be like that in every thread…. Cept maybe for the former T2 thread. :p
See, I don’t think this is entirely a bad thing. If you guys really want to improve, you have to be willing to take criticism, even if it is just veiled kitten showing. I legitimately try to change my strategies based on what other servers say about us.
FA pretty much changed the entire way Maguuma operates in the open field.
If you cannot stop a 80+ person zerg auto attacking doors something is clearly wrong on your end. (2 arrow carts.)
I’m pretty sure we have less than 80 people in all of WvW right now, so yeah, something is wrong on our end.
i quit when our big guilds like kitten tanked our last fight with fa and db so we could go back to t4 where we do not belong pretty sure that week in t4 killed our morale good job guys
What big guilds tanked fa and db?
did you miss the commanders in map chat telling people not to take stuff for the last 2 days of the match?
Lol no one did that. I did Olympics a few hours before that reset, though, but things were already locked.
Sorry I thought you didn’t like T3? Anyhoo, yeah I am out of the loop disregard all that then.
We might not like t3, but Mag is way too big for t4. The ideal scenario is shrinking magically overnight and going back to t4 until the end of time, but the realistic scenario is db/mag/yb.
Honestly, I’d rather Ebay and CD/Yaks just get bigger… we’re not that much larger than we were in T4.
TC has been punished routinely. I am pretty sure the BG/KN/TC matchup last two weeks counts. Basically it went DB late night, followed by BG until about 3:00pm PST. Holding the northern section of our Borderlands was a treat we had to bust our kittens to enjoy.
In an Ideal World:
T1 – BG/JQ/SoR
T2 – KN/TC/FA
T3 – SoS/DB/Yaks
T4 – Mag/SBI/CD
T5 – ??? no clue beyond this point
You’re kidding. We destroyed SBI and CD every time we’ve played them in the last 2 months. Same with Yak’s.
Nah…
SoS will probably fall below T3 and DB/Mag/YB will most likely be the semi stable T3.
That’s interesting. Is SoS continuing to lose guilds? And do you think a DB/Mag/YB match is likely to be a close and competitive one? I don’t think I’ve ever played against YB, although I’ve heard nothing but good things about them from my fellow TCers.
SoS lost 9-10 guilds from reports. And judging by their point loss… any current T3 or higher server probably would not get that kind of point loss in that match up.
YB and Mag are probably relatively close in size. I believe we (Mag) have a bit more manpower than them. We blew them out when we last faced them but the 3rd server was one who got killed by transfer. Any time it is 2 live servers and one dead server, the second strongest live server is easily focused. So that match up was an aberration for them.
Yeah, I think DB/Mag/YB is probably the best possible match up for T3 at this point (Unless SoS still is able to compete in this Tier)…. I believe the problem is there may be 4 T1 servers and 2 T2 servers. Kain/SoR/BG/JQ…. and FA/TC (so FA/TC will get pooped up on when SoS gets sorted out).
I wouldn’t consider Kain T1.

SoS had only ever lost in T1 twice in their history, and it caused them all to transfer to blackgate. Now that they’re losing in T2, I imagine we’ll see a similar exodus.
T1 players have always been the same, even if the servers have been different. It’s pretty pathetic, if you ask me.
What about anything Paralda posted gives you any reason to believe what you just wrote?
This is World vs World. Note the ‘versus’.
We’re not here to be nice to each other. We’re here to compete.
Hi everyone, please let’s reserve the energy to fight on the in-game battlefields and not on our forums as explained in this rule reminder.
All inflammatory, rude, and disrespectful posts will be removed.
Thanks for your help!
Can’t we be polite without being nice to each other?
All good advice for small scale fights, but FA’s AVTR guild runs with necros spreading the confusion via epidemic, and glass cannon hundred-blades warriors to damage you while you can’t attack.
I recently switched to pure of voice (guardian trait that lets shouts convert conditions to boons for yourself and allies), but I can’t isolate the confusion with it. The blinds on glamour and vuln from the necros kills me, plus I can’t expect everyone to run with at least one pure of voice guardian.
I’m thinking staff for guardian might be the answer, because of the heal and the might stacking. Just heal/might stack while confusion is on, then push when they’re all on recharge… but those warriors really hurt. I’d love to hear AVTR’s opinions on this.
Not a matchup thread, I just like you guys and wanted to discuss WvW strategy.
What’s a good way to deal with glamour confusion mesmers?
Mag BL tonight had a queue bug, I think. We had probably 40 Legion players in TC BL, and enough randoms to make a queue, and when I heard Mag BL was outmanned, I tried to move over the 40 Legion, but we only got about 10 in… and had 30 total players on Mag BL while DB had the same number but had the outmanned buff… so TC had at least double us, probably 60+, and we just gave up.
I don’t know what happened in eternal, but after Legion left TC, that quickly went to kitten. Came back an hour or two later to try to take some keeps, got on the lord room of three different keeps with only PYRO, and would get zerged down at the last second. 15 vs 30 I can do… 15 vs 40+ hurts.
Anyways, could we stop with the off-topic/probably copyright infringing cartoons?
Anyone want to do fight club? PM me in game.
Your updates are weird and unwanted. Don’t waste the effort.
I’m glad you are only speaking for yourself.
Jayne, everyone loves your updates but this person. Keep them coming please.
I don’t like Jayne’s updates.
Hate to break it to you .. Kaineng is just as silly as we are now
Not sure if you’re talking on the forums or in the game… They were always pretty silly in game.
Naw, they’re pretty formidable on the field … but lovely people on the forums.
So, on average, you’re saying Kaineng’s players are more skilled than TC’s?
Ay mag? Didn’t you enjoy t4? Why you back? lol
Are you kidding. Home is wherever DB is… Kind of miss FA, though… Particularly since next week they’ll have sent Kaening down to meet us.
Kaineng will give us a proper match up thread. Look forward to it!
I can still hear the QQ from that thread.
I miss Fort Aspenwood.
They were more fun.
The goal is 5.
Maguuma chooses no celebrity commander.
Culling is absolutely a fixable problem, and as Habib mentioned in his MMORPG interview, we are planning to completely remove it from the game in march.
Why is it taking so long? Well, I think the best way I can describe how we’ve had to approach this problem is that it’s almost like changing a flat tire on a car that’s still moving. That’s a really rough analogy, but hopefully it helps illustrate just how difficult this would be in terms that are easier for everyone to understand.
Something like the way players render is extremely core to the engine and any change to that sort of thing could cause all kinds of other issues throughout the game. There are a lot of really complex technical problems that we needed to solve, then make sure that our changes don’t actually cause any of those odd side effects.
That being said, we’re confident that been able to solve those problems on the technical side. We still have a bit more testing to do, but we’re not expecting any major issues to pop up at this point, so we’re really looking forward to flipping that switch and getting rid of culling for good!
We’ll have a blog post coming up sometime in the next month to go into more details about the culling fixes and what you can expect.
This is awesome to hear, Mike, and as a Commander I’m really looking forward to it.
Have you guys considered implementing a public test realm? I know a lot of crazy problems pop up when you implement large changes, so it might be a good idea to allow for large scale testing with a PTR before patches. Plus, it’d let people get used to the idea/balance of new content, and they wouldn’t be so whiny each patch.
Just a thought! Thanks for all the great work.
Chris.50245 hours without a post? What’s going on here?
I miss Maguuma soo much…
We always knew you cared.
I’ll just pretend that I’m a part of this matchup.
DB is full of PvDoor! FA just wipes a lot and throws 5,000,000 bodies on a keep to take it! BT makes a lot of videos about stuff!
Yeah. That felt good.
25 seems a high number to not trigger orange swords it seems. I think 15 would of been a better number. Oh well.
I was hoping for 15 as well. 25 is enough to flash build 5 guild golems.
Mag will be back in T3 soon. Couple of my friends already transferred off the server because they hate T3 so much, and considering the Mag fairweathers make it so I can’t even enjoy T4 on the rare times we are here, I’m starting to think they did the right thing. Either that or it’s time to get back into spvp. Don’t like the game mode, but at least I can find good fights in tpvp.
Sorry to hear that. Honestly, I really enjoy t3. Either way, though, I try to play every week, regardless of tier.
Maybe roamers will have a new role as scouts/counter scouts since the changes to map swords.
Boring forum is boring. I miss Maguuma.
<3 DB. I even kind of miss FA.
YB needs to step up the QQ and craptalking or leave this Tier.
Their play on the field is fine, but their forum skills are lacking!!!!
Maguuma #1 forum pvp. Can I pretend this is our thread? The t4 one is boring.
Boring forum is boring. I miss Maguuma.
<3 DB. I even kind of miss FA.
People are too obsessed with winning. I’m 99% sure that Maguuma is about the same strength it always was, and yet a formerly average server is now T3. It seems like everyone in the game bandwagoned to the upper tiers.
SF got an influx of players after they dropped to tier 8. but now they’re stuck here… makes me LOL when you guys keep saying “omg you losers would get ROFLSTOMPED if anyone else dropped to that tier with you!!!!!1!!1one!!” seriously. if we got paired up with a server with similar numbers, it would be a much more even match, like the first two matches when SF FIRST dropped to tier 8.
learn how screwed up glicko is before you say stuff like that, please. glicko is a hot mess, and we’re stuck with it.
who would i want to face? at this point, ANYONE ELSE. that about cover it for ya?
There is no one with a lower pop.
I remember something mentioned in press beta about each borderland eventually being unique. If that’s still being worked on, maybe the march patch will be new maps.
It’s a silly idea to decide not to play any week period if that reason has anything to do with what Tier your WvW is in. I’d rather fight outmanned and outgunned in Tier 3 then do the opposite in Tier 4. I’ve had some awesome fights here in Tier 4 though, nothing against anyone here.
Agreed. I guess what sucks is that we’re stuck somewhere between tier 3 and 4 and until something significant changes elsewhere, we’ll never have even matchups again.
Sea of Sorrows is falling apart. Maybe they’ll be worse than FA.
Our oceanic consists of 10 players. And not because we have no one on. It’s because the majority decided to stop playing because they don’t want to be in T3 anymore. I’m not one of those players, but at the same time I’m not just going to sit there and try to solo zergs. The pvp in this game has become stagnant.
This makes no sense to me. “I won’t play this week, because if I do, I won’t play next week.”
At this point, people are effectively quitting the game.
This is actually hilarious to me.
Here are my stats/build: http://gw2buildcraft...6b.k38.5|39.7|e
It’s pretty much a jack of all trades build. Works relatively well in duels (I can beat or tie with most d/d eles), and excels in large scale fights (passive heals everywhere from altruistic healing). Plus, I hit like a truck. My biggest problem is dealing with confusion/condition mesmers in small fights. In a large fight, I can be mostly shielded by others so the conditions don’t really hit me that hard, but when it’s a 1v1 or 5v5, they hurt pretty badly. Even if I run smite condition (which has a 16 second cd on my build), the removal just isn’t quick enough, and the confusion destroys me.
I also get kited pretty badly in small fights, because I’m melee only (with staff in big fights). I have a lot of mobility and control with judge’s intervention/greatsword/hammer, but mesmers give me a ton of trouble. Thieves do to a lesser extent, just because they always run away.
I’ve considered a possible remedy is to get rid of my 15 radiance (which is a lot of my might stacking/heals in big fights) and just go for a cookie cutter pure of voice/shout build. That would take care of the confusion, but shouts have such kittenty utilities. I would just become a stats box, and that’s not really fun to me.
Does anyone have some advice as to how to deal with condition mesmers without me having to completely change my build?
Since my build site doesn’t let me put down my utilities, I use Signet Heal, Judge’s Intervention, Save Yourselves (or smite condition), Signet of Judgment (or Hallowed Ground for big fights), and Renewed Focus.
