My post wasnt targeted solely at just you, and I have been claiming the prices arent stable since the beginning. But thanks for trying to use me to make a point….

The beginning of the game? Of course they aren’t stable from the beginning of the game. NOTHING is.

1 week in, the richest player probably has 50-70g. A dusk generally cost an extremely wealthy player his entire bankroll.

Fast forwarding to today, it’s about the same. The price is a reflection of the economy. Sought after items increase as wealth increases. Is this foreign to most?

I said that beginning. I ment since we started this discussion on RNG ruining legendary items and the prices growing to outrageous amounts.

Those who said it would be fine and nothing should change pointed to the market balancing out and becoming stable. Last week when I brought up this point that prices still had climbed in past weeks I was ridiculed and told prices we stable and this was were it would stay. That 300 seemed to be the average a person had to put in in order go get a precursor out. Certainly an over night jump of 100 gold on the item puts those statements into question. We shall see if the price comes back down or if 450 is now the new norm.

And your point that item cost increase as player wealth increase is a false statement. Price will be reflective on how much a person put in to get an item in addition to current supply and current player wealth. When people first got precursors at the start of the game they priced them above how much they put in so they could make a profit. At this time the RNG rate was completely unknown due to the fact those that got these items early got very favorable generated numbers, so the average person who got these items only put in 20-50 gold so selling for x2 profit seem smart at the time when that player considers the supply of gold to the population.

Now up to last week it was hoped that the average person was only going to have to put in 300-400 gold to have a reasonable shot at getting there desired precursor, and that will cause the market to stabilize to that cost (no one is going to pay 500 gold for an item that only costs 300 to make), however I see that with the continued research of players showing it takes the average player many more attempts then we originally had hoped, and the starting of a rise in price of cheaper exotics due to lower supply due to lower farming since Halloween has ended the price will tend to go up… as it did last night.

Next time, please look at a chart before you talk. No, I never proclaimed Dusk to be stable in price, or precursors period, but just looking at it now, it is actually massively more stable than many other items.

For something in such high demand with low supply, I’m in awe of how the price stayed as steady as it has.

2 Precursors that have been wildly less stable over the last month, and are much better examples, are Chaos Gun and Energizer. But because neither one is dusk no one noticed and no one cares amirite?

From its last price jump (October 12), the average for Dusk sell has been around 375g.
Even taking the recent spike to 430 as an absolute indication of value fluctuation (irresponsible, but for argument’s sake), the variance is 55 gold from the mean ‘stable’ value, or in other words 14% variance in the positive direction.
The low mark of 310 sets it at 17% in the negative direction, since 10/12.

This is INCREDIBLY low variance, for a time span (almost a month) that is a little less than half the total time the game has been out (2 months and change)

I’m incredibly glad you guys enjoy taking sound bites and trying to turn them into points of argument. Parisalchuk, that IS in fact what politicians like to do.

The reason I continue to put the work in to break apart and look more closely at people’s claims is exactly this. You need facts to back up what you are saying. I expect dusk to be instable/increase in price moving forward, given the market demand relative to supply. However for one reason or another, it seems to be rather stable. My best guess is that the ticket price simply prices out the majority of the market for it. Price spikes to follow when individual wealth catch up with price. This is the nature of inflation in games, and will happen to most if not all sought after items that are in short supply. This “problem”, if you regard it to be one, is not isolated to precursors.

Frankly, I think if ANet regards the price as a problem, the fix is as simple as improving the particle effects on all the legendaries that aren’t Greatswords, or equalizing the importance of underwater combat. I really enjoy it when people say “precursor” but they really mean “dusk”.

Did you know the cheapest precursor is about 12g?

this method doesnt excatly work when you are trying to get a staff or greatsword precursor as far as i know, i could be wrong just quickly brushed through tp.

In theory you could use this method to amass wealth and use any precursor made as gold to purchase the desired weapon.

I get the impression that the mursaat are not showing us their full hand. You have to remember, this civilization both survived the first rise of the elder dragons and completely annihilated the seers, even though the seers had knowledge of the secrets of infusion.

The scenario I find most likely is that the mursaat are alive and well on the isle of Janthir, hiding themselves from the elder dragons. With Abbadon defeated and the titans destroyed, they have no further need of the Onyx Gate, and no further need of the White Mantle to provide them with sacrifices. I’d speculate that their interests in Kryta, following the events of Prophecies and the White Mantle’s fall from power, simply were no longer worth sustaining.

The mursaat encountered in the war in Kryta were possibly just the last holdouts of their expeditionary force.

I also subscribe to this theory. With their ability to phase and their sheer ability to survive the last dragon awakening I dont think they simply through themselves entirely at the Shining Blade during the Guild Wars Beyond content. It just doesn’t make sense when they have the ability to phase out, and only a certain few have the ability to see them (Ascension).

Secretly hoping the Nov 15th content is related to them if the whole ‘Island’ rumor is true. Isle of Janthir was my 2nd most desired location to visit during GW1, and though Orr (my #1) was hugely disappointed I still have faith!

What is stupid is the 5 years he spent in denial concerning his role in Snaff’s death and the failure of the assault on the Elder Dragon, which is reflected his whiny “It’s not my fault” tone that’s in every conversation he has up to a certain part in the story.

Actually, the complete opposite of this. He’s keenly aware that his absence cost Snaff his life (not necessarily true – as said above, even if he were there, there was no guarantee… but the odds would have been a lot better). He avoided the others because of that guilt. He stayed in Divinity’s Reach because he had to justify (to himself) the decision he made.

He felt guilty, and not undeservedly, I will agree – what he did not feel, was sorry. He knows that if he had it to do over, he would still have chosen Jennah. He feels remorse, but not regret.

But, let’s turn this around: Let’s say he stayed. Would it have really been the better choice?

- There’s still no guarantee they’d have won, although I’ll assume for the sake of argument they do.
- Ebonhawke, last human holding in Ascalon, would be destroyed.
- Jennah would almost certainly have died. If she survived by some chance, she’d be stranded in Ascalon (the gate would be destroyed with the fortress). As awesome as mesmers are, she can’t mesmer her way all the way back home.
- Having died without issue, the throne would either fall under dispute, leading to civil war, or the government would pass to the Ministry, essentially putting Caudecus in charge.
- With Ebonhawke fallen and Kryta weakened in the transition, the Charr would have seen no need for a truce, since there is, after all, a mountain range between them and Kryta.

True, there would be one less Elder Dragon, but the world would be in a weaker position regarding the remaining ones.

Logan could not be in two places at once. He had to make a choice. He did. And he had to live with it. His primary flaw is not in the choice he made, but in his handling of it. He hid, avoiding having to confront the others over the decision. He clung to his role as Jennah’s protector, justifying his choice by continuing to safeguard her. She was his “comfort zone”, and as long as he held on to that, he couldn’t truly get over his issues.

Eventually, he learns that he cannot run forever. He still does not regret the choice he made back then, but he is learning to move on, and not let its specter loom over the rest of his life.

I was gonna come and post this when I saw the thread was bumped. You hit it perfectly, the long term consequences of the queen dying are unknown, but likely could have resulted in the eradication of humanity from continental Tyria by the Charr.

Changing it now in the way you people are suggesting would be a kick in the nuts for some players. I mean, I have already thrown in almost 4000 weapons in the forge, that’s almost 1000 tries, with no luck. The cost of that would go close to 500 gold (with selling the exotics I got from the forge, so a rough 250 starting gold). To raise the grind to another 500 hours would be a drag and would make all the effort previously put into that to waste.
I’ve had my luck with precursors, to be honest. I used to do it for profit and got 2 Sparks, 1 Dusk, 1 Dawn and 1 Leaf of Kudzu, fairly easily. Now that I actually need it (it’s the last thing I need) my luck has run dry. Should be a lesson :P

While I do understand that it would upset those who put in the effort and got on, there are far more people who put in the effort and have been rewarded with nothing, including myself.

I challenge Promega and LFK to tell the rest of the user base wait they are crafting, from looking into it, I cannot see anyway that they are crafting 4 exotics weapons for 1.3 gold.

I checked into this and they are full of it. It’s a minimum of 2g for 4x level 75 exotics and it can easily give you back a junk level 80 exotic worth less than 1g.

They’re probably just trying to get suckers to buy their inflated level 75 exotics.

Heh. It doesn’t really bother me whether you believe me or not. I have no idea who promega is, we’re not trying to cook up some conspiracy. When did i say anything about level 75 exotics?

You seem indignant enough, but you still haven’t given me an example of a “western RPG” that you are considering to be the gold standard. Of anything you consider to be the ideal system.

While I am not the one this post is purely directed at, just because there isnt a standard that is better doesnt make this a good alternative automatically.

i’m currently buying a lvl 78 daggers for ~40s each. That means an attempt costs me 1,6g. I will get a lvl 80 exotic back, even if i dont get the precursor, they are 95% of the time worth more than 1,6g. You can even get some weapons like Usokus Needle which goes for 10g+.

What you do is filter for exotics, lvl 75-80 and then sort by the cheapest. Now you will place BIDS on the cheapest one available on the AH.

Thank you, I understand this concept. If this is indeed what he was implying then I stand corrected. However I was confused in his use of the word ‘materials’ then.

The precursor is not the legendary though. There is still so much more you need to do to craft a legendary than get a precursor. What seems to have happened is that so much emphasis is put on purely getting the precursor that the rest of the process is forgotten.

Well, it was just a suggestion. As someone who’s invested 100 hours (after world completion) purchased 60 dollars worth of boosters, has almost used them up, and is barely close to 100g savings, I feel the price for dawn is a bit much.

Even after all of this I have like less than 8 armored scales, powerful venom etc etc. I’m all up for a challenge but this is just unfair. This is a game, not real life.

I agree with you, I think after all the other costs involved with a legendary the precursor should not be one of them.

Trust me, precursor is indeed your last problem. All the others mats (especially if you need Charged Lodestones) will take you about 4-500 gold the least, and you need a ton of Karma and whatnot. Get everything else, and by the time you have those, you’ll prob. have earned enough to even buy precursor straight

I have gotten almost everything else and I do not have the money for the precursor. Yes, the rest is also cost prohibitive, but thats not invitation to substitute skill to get an item for pure wealth.

Human magic- the next evolution

Humans I think are often portrayed, at least in this game, as the Wild Card race. It seems if we put effort towards it, we can become a force to be seriously reckoned with. This doesn’t just go for Magic Mind you, because it should be remembered that even Palawo Joko when he was on the brink of conquoring all of Elona for the first time was laid low by a mere mortal soldier named Turai Ossa. When pushed into Corners, humans seem capable of pulling off some of the most terrifying feats. This is seen with the Vizier Kilbron who upon seeing the Charr horde at the doors to Orr took it upon himself to read the forbidden scrolls to try and stop the assault.

So while I agree that human efforts seem to be on the surface underplayed, I think the fact that at the time of the story the Humans are fighting multiple wars on different fronts. From the Risen among other Dragonspawn (destroyers are afterall appearing in Human territory), to Centaurs, to having up until now also been holding back the Charr from taking Ebonhawke.

Also I’m not entirely sure if Magdaer and Sohothin are human crafted weapons. They are relics of the Ascalon Kingdom to be sure, but truth be to told they could have been found similarly to how Rytlock somehow managed to stumble upon Sohothin. I don’t think any lore has been released concerning the origins of those Fiery Dragon Swords.

The swords were were crafted in Orr before the Exodus, and given to the Ascalonian royalty as a symbol of good faith and continued peace. The fact that a certain myth exists—that if a descendant of King Doric returns to Ascalon with either blade, the ghosts will be put to rest—might mean they’re as close to god-like/blessed as you can get.

As for humanity, there’s a lot of theories on how powerful they can truly become. My personal theory? The current pantheon started off as mortals, too, and usurped their positions from former gods from a distant world that’s now lost between the pathways of the Mists.

I mean, if Kormir could do it… and the past does have a way of repeating itself.

While I do have personal agreement in part with your ‘Gods were once mortals’ theory I do take issue with one of your statements.

History does not have a tendency to repeat itself. Instead people have innate desire to rationalize and fit things into patterns. While we can use the past to help lay out our future, a literal repeat of events is not likely to occur.

Prices have actually dropped and stabilized from not too long ago. The whole “the sky is falling cause precursors are going up in price uncontrollably” was so last weeks popular cry post.

On average from the release of the game the price has seen increases in short bursts followed by ‘stabilization’.

This quote is 100% wrong. My material cost going into the forge for example on one combine I do is 1.29g. The average selling price for the combines that dont result in a precursor is over 2 gold. Even after the TP 15% I still make money.

Sorry bro. I can’t help you if you refuse to acknowledge that what you are doing is not the only way to go about things.

So you are basically saying that people are using the forge with money that they make from playing the TP. How is that any different then someone using the forge with money that they make from farming? The source of income is the only difference. You use the money you make from the TP and dont spend your saved money the same way that I use my money from dungeons and dont spend my saved money.

No one cares that you spend the time playing the TP and make money. Attempting to use the forge to make a precursor WILL lose you money since statistically you are not going to end up with a higher worth item then the combined worth of the first 4 items.

Just some math. If the percentage odds of crafting a precursor is 0.01% using rares then it takes 10,000 forge uses to statistically hit 100%. Say we can buy something like Carrion Krait Slayer for 15 silver (which is below current price) and we know each attempt takes 4 swords then it takes 60 silver per forge attempt (15 * 4). At 60 silver a try needing 10,000 tries that is 600000 silver to statistically hit 100%. That is 6000 gold.

Yes, you will get 1 free attempt every 4 tries so lets say that cuts out 1000 gold, we are still at 5000 gold. And lets say we are happy with 50-50 odds, then we are still at 2500 gold.

Now in a game that punishes people for farming (Yes, I still get DR when running events in cursed shore, and I still get DR because I can clear your dungeons faster than you would like) how is a player supposed get that much money, and how is that representative of skill and not purely based on a random number generator which is run by a computer… something that is inherently unable to provide true randomness.

Listen to your player base, make it a ‘recipe’ item. No one is asking for a handout, we are just asking for a chance to actually get one of these items.

Zeki I think you’ve missed the point entirely. No one wants it to be ‘easy’ – they just want it not to be a random occurance. This is the main issue.

If you don’t think people want it to be easy, you haven’t been reading.

People want it to be easy. Let me give you an example of a suggestion:

I saw someone suggest 500 of each dungeon token + Dungeon Master title.
500 * 8 dungeons = 4000 tokens / 60 = 67 runs.
Taking about an hour a run with a competent group (average, and this is generous. This counts both faster ones like TA/AC, which take me ~20 mins, and Arah, which takes longer) … that is about 67 hours.

A good group of dedicated players could get this done in a week.
A hardcore player? 4 days.
Even me? About a month… easily.

Next example:

After buying recipe from special NPC ( like Claw of Jormag’s npc) for 10-20g
First Step = 50 x Dungeon 1 Token + 50 x Dungeon 2 Token + 50 x Dungeon 3 Token + 50 x Dungeon 4 Token = Specail Dungeon Mystic Forge Token
Last Step = 5 Scroll + 100 Coins, + 200 Orichalcum Ingots + Special Dungeon Mystic Forge Token

100 coins at market price = ~4g
5 scrolls = 250sp
200 orichalcum ingots = ~8s each (market value from gw2spidy) = 16g.
200 dungeon tokens is negligible.

so… this suggestion puts the value of a precursor at about 40g and 250 sp. This isn’t easier? From just playing the game for a month I had 340 sp sitting around, in excess of purchasing every skill, including all the elites.

People want it to be easier. I’ve yet to see a suggestion propose something that would take a dedicated player over 2 months.

What about something achievement based?
100% completion of achievements, aside from the legendary equipped achievement.
Exclude limited-time event achievements.
Includes PvP and WvW. This would encourage people to play in other facets of the game.
Change only implemented after world transfers no longer free.

This, I could get on board with.

This argument is flawed. Any player can put 4 items in the forge and get a precursor in 3 seconds. The fact is people want a specific goal to reach so they can track progress. The current system does not account for that and is a big reason why people quite frankly just dont care about legendaries anymore. I have the vast majority of the rest of the gifts completed but Im certainly not going to go after a precursor because quite frankly I already spent several hundred gold I dont need to spend more on another single item.

Anet is going to lose more serious players because of RNG then they are going to keep. This issue needs attention put towards it and its sad that the Devs have seemingly ignored player requests on the issue.

Well, when you think about it, much of what we saw in the mists were corrupted fragments or the realms of gods. I mean Fissure of Woe was built to Balthazar’s liking, the Underworld to Grenth (since he changed it a bit after Dhuum was enchanted), the Realm of Torment was literally a prison for a god who went insane and warped the place to his vision, and the Hall of Heroes which was a location for the greatest of heroes. I have a feeling that places like these will eventually be released back into the game eventually, but at the moment what we are seeing are merely memories of Tyria. It may be that the other areas are impossible to get to without the permission of the gods that rule over them, or without ascension (which was required for Hall of Heroes).

By the release of Factions ascension was no longer needed to reach the Hall of Heros.

Right, as I said, that statue is of Melandru. But it’s not of Mellaggan. The quaggan simply… renovated it, so to speak.

What is it you don’t understand? I am saying the same thing as you, you are just repeating my point while adding nothing further to the conversation.

You clearly stated that Mellaggan = Melandru and there is a statue to prove it, which is not true. So he is not repeating what you are saying, he is in fact correcting you.

That is exactly what people are doing though. They go to a place that requires jumping to get, or better yet stand on the Cauldron and set up their table so that the pumpkins will drop down on players. There is no way to retaliate as the only way to reach them without dying is to leave costume (which causes you to lose points) and go to where they are and fear them (assuming you have the costume). That is what is wrong, you answered it yourself.

Who cares if the color of the weapon name is purple or gold? The stats are gonna be the same and the skin is not going to change. By having items made in the forge Anet made items have a real and measurable cost rather than purely RNG drops which are then purely set by supply and demand. Dont worry, your ego will be fine, people will know what it took to craft the weapon even though it doesnt have a purple name.

Just like to clarify some things. The Stress Tests were put when they were because it was during business hours AND it was during peak Euro play time. This is the exact response people got from Arena Net when asked. Secondly, Euro players actually had it better for BWE finales than East coast and Midwest players in America because the finale events started at 3 am and 2 am respectively. Finally, we get the short stick every day with updates happening right in the middle of prime time. This includes resets in our Daily achievements and our dungeons so lets not act like Americans are so favored as this is not the case. Instead everyone gets screwed.

I got so tired of the tables being set up on the jumping platforms that I exited the Costume Brawl and planted my character in front of the table, so the griefer would only hit me and get nothing out of it. Then, when they moved to another platform, I moved with them until they left entirely.

The fear effect wouldn’t be as bad if it didn’t have the possibility of running you into the water, which resets everything.

Being feared into the water strips you of your costume only, all your Costume Brawl stats remain.

Im not saying people HAVE to buy it, but a lot of people complain that they are getting beaten by these costumes and there is no way to compete. Sure there is, if you cant use the normal tonics to compete (which is very possible, people dont give the tonics enough credit) then buy the costume. Obviously griefing is griefing, there is no good way to combat that as a player and buying a costume so that you can then go grief is not my points intent.

You have taken everything I said and twisted it for your agrument.

1) I am not ‘forcing’ people to use the table. I place it so I can use it in an open space (Note, Im not jumped up somewhere unreachable and spamming it). People see me and obviously want to take the table out, when they come running to use it or attack me I dodge away and then come in using my AOE to mop them up. That is called strategy, not griefing.

2) Being able to buy mad king is completely relevant. Im not griefing. Im not taking advantage of broken mechanics. I am using my skills as they were intended. People who complain that this is Pay2Win is who this comment is intended for (something you completely missed or more likely ignored). If people dont want to spend the gold to buy exotics that is their right but they then cant come in and complain that they arent as efficient in PvE because they didnt want to spend the money. Both Exotics and Mad King costume can be purchased through in game gold or real world money. This is a perfectly valid comparison.

Just to continue to copy your posts format, I could care less if everyone has the table. I never once supported griefing of the table by placing it in hard to reach locations or stopping anyone from being able to participate. As stated in my original post, people reading this thread are starting to equate anyone in a Mad King costume as a griefer. This is not true at all, we simply decided to purchase a costume for use in the costume brawl and though in some cases some people use the mechanics to exploit, this is not 100% the case.

People need to make the distinction that using the table and using the table to grief are 2 different things… Yesterday I got so many PMs about griefing and ruining the fun while using a table on open ground where anyone can attack me. Its not my fault that I know how to manage my bar to draw people to the table and use my AOE to then attack. Thats akin to saying that people shouldn’t use their best skills because they are too good.

We should make this clear, everyone has access to Mad King costume without spending real world money. This is not pay to win. If you dont want to farm out the money then dont complain that you dont have nice things.

Draconic is the highest used because it is by far the easiest to get since you can easily buy it from the TP for cheap or craft it if you are an armorsmith.

Why is TA considered the starter EM dungeon when AC is the first dungeon you can get access to both SM and EM?

Frankly, all EM dungeons should have a “cheese” path, a medium path, and a hard path… with the rewards corresponding to the difficulty (from quality of drops to token amounts).

This is dangerous. Even with DR people will still min max. If I can make for sure 10 silver and finish a path in 10 minutes because its easy I will do that over a path that gives 50 silver but takes over an hour. Not that its a bad idea, just needs to be implemented correctly.

I would like to just point out Anet promised access to Stress tests for all people who preoreded but were scheduled during the US workday so we didnt get to play. Really, why is this any different? My group was able to easily kite the boss, even moving with no speed boost you are able to outpace him and keep him from attacking. Whoever currently has agro swims in a big circle, the rest go after him.

Path 3 is much worse with the end boss. He typically seems to pick 1 person to sink with a rock and will do so every 5 to 10 seconds. Makes for a real boring fight. Not to mention underwater sucks already.

How is ANYONE getting it first when it will globally be released at the same time? Is it cause you will be sleeping? I missed all those stress tests here in the US because they decided to put them during EU prime time and didn’t complain about it. I get to have my daily progress reset right in the middle of working on it.

Here are the facts. Both player bases have been screwed by the system and will continue to do so in the future. Arenanet is a US company and can decide to launch their product at a time of their choosing. Get over it, move on, play when you wake up.

Its not Anet’s fault you made plans on information that clearly did not indicate a start time. I dont understand the surprise people have that this is occurring when it is. Since release their typical patch goes out Monday at 5pm PST… just like tonights patch which kicks off Halloween in GW2.

This is a GW problem. I know they are aware of the issue as it happens all the time in WvW and during large Champion fights. I get this aswell which has led to me always play GW2 muted.

@ parisalchuk , i can understand why you are having problems with the reset times , but then nobody else is allowed to have a complain? this is the first time i complain about the game . i just wanted to say that i dont understand the way they do this. seperate starting and ending times for usa/eu would be much better. i am someone who loves to be there from the start till the end ,but its made imposible . @kasama :P the middle of the cake is the best .
and i checked times again and MajorMelchett is right , the ending is earlier then i said in my first post, sorry for that . but maybe its a idea to make times more clear for everybody. so people in all differend timesareas know when it starts/ends.
This morning i woke up and thought YES ! halloween event today YEEEEY . untill i was told it starts at 1.00 then it was QQ.

Ive already tried to have this discussion with a Dev about separate or better placed reset time. They weren’t very receptive. So the fact will remain, 1 party will be upset no matter what. I just find it funny that when I complained about this plenty of EU players jumped on me saying it wasn’t a big deal and that I should just deal with it, and now here the same player base is complaining about the exact same thing.

I’m not challenged by time-zones, as you can set in-game clock to server time.

The part that’s frustrating here is we get ANet employee coming in and saying “past” midnight… so does that mean 12:01 AM or 1 AM or 2 AM or ? all of those are “past.”

AT what time will it go live?

Deliberately vague? Or just really crummy language skills?

Arenanet is always very vague. Annoying to the player base since its all guessing, but keeps them from getting complaints if things dont get done at their ‘advertised’ time.

Really, again an EU player complains? American players get to have that lovely 5pm PST reset on our dungeons and daily counters. You know what that means, every day we have to wait until that time (8pm EST/7pm CST… right in the middle of prime time) to run dungeons again. And didn’t finish your daily achievement cause you were at work, sorry we reset it while you where playing. We deal with this every day, you can deal with it the like 5 times there is a holiday event.
