Why don’t GvG pay for a custom arena and conduct there GvG there?

Your completely equal there and no one can interfere with you?

Maps are far too small to fully make organized movements.

Now if they were to add GvG friendly maps to PvP this would make sense but the way that sPvP is set up is so each point is only accesable by various narrow lanes and each point has defensable points. Its not ment for 15 per side.

Also you cant get 30 people in a server.

Bunch of whining kids who think they are entitled to everything , nothing has changed. G v G ruins wvw for others and the spots taken by the guilds couldve been used by others to attack the enemies cohesively.

if anything its a fair advantage as 2 servers suffer the same penalty. In addition open field combat is not against the spirit of WvW which in turn implies a GvG is perfectly fine.

Please explain to me how this is different then the groups that form up and duel each other. They take up the space of other players to play ‘cohesively’.

Seriously you GvG guys are getting kitten annoying lately. You are constantly crying in
every stream, every third forum post, every post about bloodlust and now you can’t
handle an A-Net Dev who simply was standing around you and was watching you?
And all that for something you should have known prior to the game that it won’t
be included any time soon. Shouldn’t you try and polish your own image a little?
If this keeps on, GvG might really become a banable offense, and I doubt you would
like that, but this way I can imagine that the devs are fed up with this scene.

Are you missing where the Anet Tag says they are infringing on his game mode? Thats what the uproar is about. Not that he stood around.

If you want to have GvG supporters no longer posting, then lets also get all the PvE complainers, PvP complainers and everyone else with an opinion to stop posting too, and we will just leave GW2 alone as is because no one wants to read people complaining.

Morons try to play a unsupported game mode, get trolled by a quite humorous asura with power, come and complain to the source of said asura, because kitten logic.

Open field combat is supported in WvW. Hell they even give out points for stomps now to promote open world combat. Just because some people set up their own code of conduct on how they want to fight those open field fights doesnt make it ‘unsupported’. Under supported sure, but WvW is based on fighting both against towers and in the field.

If we are gonna call GvG’s unsupported then so is dueling – and by extension it should be stopped.

In Guild Wars, it’s quite important that representatives of Grenth and Balthazar took us into their respective realms. We didn’t exactly just open portals without their help; we won their attention (in the Hall of Heroes), and then they enlisted our aid.

Everyone is going to BG/SOR/JQ now, I can feel it in my bones. I hope the rewards for the league are trash and everyone regrets transferring. I can’t even comprehend the idea of T1 server fight some T3 server because everyone in T3 has left.

I’m almost sure anet must be laughing in glee because people started buying more gems (in cash) to transfer.

You say this as some of the bigger guilds have just left JQ and BG for such servers as FA… So yea… Fear unfounded thus far.

First i’d like to apologize if this had been discussed before, i’m new to these forums

I really like all forms of massive pvp in mmos, it started when i played WAR, rvr there really took me. WvW here is in most aspects even better, but some things bug me.

Why is there no collision at least in WvW? I understand it can be problem in PvE with crowded cities like LA, but collision in any massive pvp should be gameplay element. Just think how much more would sieges be epic, if instead of zerg steamrolling everything ones the doors of keep go down, there’s a shieldwall of warriors/guardians there to stop them. It would also unable blobbing.

While it would be awesome I see 2 things here:

1) The system is probably not written for their current engine so its not something we should ever expect to see.

2) Is collision for all things? If so whats to stop people from griefing their team by creating human walls to stop the people behind them. This also handicaps melee as there are only so many targets you can get to before extra people are literally useless. If collision only works against enemies I think youll find that 2 lines will basically form with people blobbed on top of eachother trying to be able to get into combat, in which case why is body blocking on anyway.

Cool concept and would add good immersion – just wont work with fights of 50v50.

I’m still skeptical about the future of the game but at least the primary offender has been brought in line. They needed to deal with S/D thief as immediately as the others and they didn’t touch it.

Spirit Rangers are probably the bigger problem of the two though, because you can at least see the S/D thief even though you can’t really target him that well. The zoo ranger floods the screen with fail and misery which makes teamfights hard as hell to participate in.

Your forgetting fire and forget fear necromancers which can stand back and dominate a team fight. Its not 1 or another on these broken builds, they all are far too overpowered and caused this meta to suck.

No, making it more balanced is exactly what we need.
That takes priority over “shake-ups” that could just re-introduce worse problems.

No one wants to play condi pressure anymore, not matter how balanced it is. It was broken, it left a bad taste in our mouths, we need a pallet cleanser of this meta.

And even so they touched 1 build! Where are the eles or the mesmser?! Necros are certainly still to powerful… Small changes are good an all, but Anet is already hemorrhaging their top players. Small changes will not do.

This update certainly isnt going to bring me back. Brought Spirits down (though didnt provide an alternative at all) and didnt touch the other classes which are broken. Mesmer still has no place, necromancer still is too easy to play. Not a worth while patch for PvP at all.

As rousing as this read was, words mean little to me from Anet anymore and its nothing against the Devs. Professionally I am a software engineer. I understand the rigors you go through and the pain of getting releases done.

That being said, this is the first time I have heard fancy words promising the world for an Anet representative on these forums. The time for words passed months ago and the time for action has slipped away for many. Its not just that content hasnt come, we certainly have seen spectator mode and we have received custom arenas, but its that the content we receive either doesnt match what the community needs nor what it really wants.

For example, Custom Arenas. Fantastic a place to create our own battles the way we want them just like we asked, right? Well… not really. We are still vastly limited in our options and we are even more greatly limited by administrative controls. Lets look at spectator mode, so the world can watch our battles. Again… not exactly. Instead if we arent one of the lucky few to get to watch matches in game like we wanted we are forced to flock to a 3rd party streamer who may or may not be watching the action we want to see. Another feature requested and delivered, but massively underwhelming compared to what was requested, promoted and hoped for.

At this point we are waiting for content that, based on recent history, very likely wont match up to the hype nor fill the need to the extent it needs to be filled. And further more we are still left far to deep in the dark on any time of time lines for when these kind of things will be released. Why should we as players expect to see this game fully featured and fully balanced when never in the history of GW2 has either of those two points been true?

I think at this point there aren’t any fair weather spvpers left. The people still interested in it have stuck through a year of this kitten, one more problem isn’t going to get them to quit, or at least not for long.

Despite all the problems, it was at least nice to see GW2 in a real tournament setting.

Even those dedicated are leaving. Hell, I officially decided to stop playing with my team (Spoons and Sporks) today as its clear the Devs are out of touch with what the player base wants, and are further hamstrung by clear lack of support in the company to do anything about it anyway.

Jumper left, Acandis quit. Lets see how many people from SYNC stay around. You only have about 4 real NA teams remaining outside of SYNC in RNG, Blacklisted, vVv and AL and trust me, at that level of tPvP matchups it gets real boring real fast playing the same 5 teams all night. Mist League proved to be a failure…

Its not a good time for GW2 PvP at all.

The warrior walked all over the ranger… because the rangers stood in AOE fire field which took out all spirits (something people have been saying is a counter for a while). 3 matches does not all of a sudden shift meta because 1 team was able to coordinate very well against a HIGHLY overconfident team which played very poorly.

Good thing the other condi builds destroy warriors right?

Force a warrior to pop his Zerk Stance and live and condis will do just fine against them…

How many times did Caed die 1v1 in fights he continued to think he could win. How many times did Twerp let CC back cap home point without any opposition. A 2 Spirit Ranger, Necro, Guard, Thief team comp is condi spam… Other alternatives… drop 1 SR for an Engi… still condi spam…

I don’t know if you noticed, but the team with 3 condi builds got kittening stomped.

Thats because SYNC’s strategy was horrible, and they got counter played hard. This game isnt 100% builds ya know.

Drop 1 of the SR’s who were getting out positioned by the warrior and replace it with an engi and we have a completely different game. Also, if SYNC would have done their triple push instead of far push or lose strategy it would have been far different. CC strives on large team fights where they can use their entire burst and keep the thief up. Split them effectively and it gets easier. Trust me, I played them on their NA alts and when we split them we didnt do too badly.

Today at PAX there was made reference to the fact that in GW2 if more PvP modes are created they fear that the player base will be spread too thin. Their only justification for such a claim is that currently with the addition of soloQ teamQ has been almost completely destroyed, however the addition of soloQ didnt actually add anything new other then a method for playing their current game type.

They tried to use failed PvP modes in GW1 as further justification that more game modes can be bad for the community, however lets compare GW1 to GW2 game modes.

GW1:
GvG
Heros Ascent (Hall of Heros)
Team Arenas (Defunct)
Hero Battles
Random Arena
Fort Aspenwood
Jade Quarry

GW2:
Conquest PvP
Large Scale Conquest PvP (aka WvW)

Now lets look at the populations for those GW1 modes. Heros Ascent, GvG, FA, JQ and RA all had healthly populations near the 4/5 year mark after release of the original game. Team Arenas was redundent and thus removed and replaced with the conquest style game Hero Battles. This should be clue #1 that conquest was not something that players of the GW games would enjoy as it failed miserably only being popular on the notorious Red Resign Days.

So, interesting, GW1 had 5 very healthy PvP modes years into its life so clearly the GW player base can handle multiple PvP forms. But lets take an even closer look at 2 of these specifically; FA and JQ. While FA was always moderately popular JQ was a barren waste land for the first year of its life, however an increase to the rewards this game mode gave quickly revitalized this mode and made it extremely popular as it was a fantastic way for both PvE players and PvP players to gain rewards. Lets compare that to GW2 conquest. The only rewards we get are skins, and they are only usable in the PvP world. Sure sounds rewarding!

So basically it comes to this. The first true conquest PvP mode (Hero Battles) was met with much hatred from the community, yet the only method of PvP in GW2 is that mode. Second, the player base is not interested in playing un rewarding content yet in GW2 the rewards are atrocious. So Anet… what on earth happened? Why are you telling us the community cant handle more modes? Why is the game (really in general including PvE) completely unrewarding?

It’s the only thing we can do right now. We don’t want to L2P unless the targetting system of this game gets some serious serious major rework.

I want to play Guild Wars 2, not Where’s Waldo everytime a kittening ranger and his stupid cat together with their happy tree friends are having a party with necro minions, mesmer clones, and engie turrets. Try to picture that one happening inside the Skyhammer room.

How is this at all fair? Your giving presents out to all characters that are 1 year old, regardless of if they have received one or not. This is like last November all over again where people who may or may not have done the Southsun event can get free loot which included a relatively high rate of precursors.

While Im only missing out on a booster really, this still is crap for people who werent ‘lucky’.

I agree yes and no with this. Clearly something needs to be done, but I think for a different reason. You state that people are leaving events, but I dont see this part to be true as the most heavily farmed Champion events are the Pirates, who upon completion spawn another event with another Champion. However, during these events the extra mobs are basically ignored and all focus is put on the champions themselves.

My suggestion would be the same as yours in theory, if you fail the event you get half of the amount of champions spawned chests (or maybe you only get blue or green versions… something) and if you complete the event you get maximum rewards which scale with your event reward of Bronze/Silver/Gold. However I put focus on completing the event over tagging champions. Anet promoted this game as something where you work together and where you dont steal kills, however if I am unable to output a significant amount of damage on a mob that I may or may not be able to target before it dies I get no reward. Tagging, to me, is as big an issue as farming itself.

Summary – Record the amount of champions spawned from the event, recieve scaled loot bags based on both the outcome of the event and your level of overall participation. Remove the individual drops from the champions in favor of the ‘bonus chest’ style rewards.

Solo Q. Look at ranks, pretty close i would say, no one was afk, so stop crying please, half of the threads here is just crying. L2P home skillets.

Given that most of them had 0 score, either the entire team was disconnected or they were afk. Yet you claim this is proof that rank doesn’t matter. Go troll somewhere else.

Just because you score 0 doesnt mean you were disconnected or AFK. 1-3-1 push on Forest. Far push wins 1v1 and caps, win 3v4 at mid point. Spawn camp. You can even tell this is what happened since one team has 100+ points for each player. If all 5 were AFK the max points each player could have gotten in that specific match is 30 or 40 (cap home, cap mid, decap/cap far) so obviously people were playing and dying.

Some people are truly Hotjoin Hero players and will get dominated in a 5v5 strategic match where they cant zerg to win and their own skill becomes important.

People keep telling me that “rank doesn’t matter”, but then when it comes around to it they decline my team applications because I’m somewhat low-ranked (r31 right now).

Although admittedly I was playing really badly in general my last application. I dunno if I was just nervous or what, I just kinda stopped caring after a bit.

I absolutely love the new map. Much better than it used to be, seriously, just get used to it and you’ll see.

Why should we get used to players being covered by buffs and points… and thats if they even show up on your map at all. Cant make logical decisions in tournament play without knowing where your team is at.

If you look back a couple of weeks on the forums, you will see that I was a huge supporter of a SoloQ where the key factor would be your skill at helping your team win against a team of the same rating. A match with a 50% win chance.

I was really disappointed when I saw the screenshots of the top people not having to play against each other in a 50/50 match, but rather against lower rated players.

I kept waiting for ANet to acknowledge the problem, explain it, explain what they are doing to fix it, or explain why they cannot ever fix it.

They are unfortunately, completely silent to explain all those screenshots.

I think it is good to keep this in focus on the forums so they will see that they are driving away players.

And I will say again, I win more games at the 800 level But I fear that if I go up against enough top 25 teams (perhaps on TS), I may be dropped to the ELO basement where the games are even more random and less competative.

So I am simply waiting a bit to see if ArenaNet fixes it so that top 100s play against other top 100 players most of the time to earn their win/loss record.

Your winning more in 800 because other people can compensate for you. At 35% you have to stand on your own and be the best to guarantee a win against ‘sub par’ competition and your not. To put it simply, in 800 rank matches you have to not mess up and allow your team to carry you to a win, at 35% you need to contribute since there is no one better to carry you.

You said yourself, your scared to play in the top 800 because of who you are going to face/play with. You clearly dont belong there and you got there because you were an early adopter before more people made the switch. How that is at all a valid data point in your mind is beyond me.

The real question is how long will it take to improve from 35% to your perceived skill level, however your results seem to indicate your right where you belong.

I’d be interested in the opinions of some people stuck in the bottom of the ELO, in the percentages, rather than from all these people who are well above 800.

Started PvP as a YoloQ player playing in the previous ‘unbalanced and unfair’ tournament system at 40%. Got myself up to the 80%’s, found a team and continued to get better. Im now top 300, usually top 150. Lets not assume you know the history of every person responding to you because you dont agree with them.

99% of the people state they have 50%+ of the time temple (with 6 maps in the pool)

87% of statistics are made up on the spot.

A thread called “Why is it always temple” will attract the 1% of the players that got Temple 5 times in a row. What is there to wonder here?

Yes, thats why there are other posters here saying they havent played Temple as often…

However, I have played a lot of Temple the past 2 nights. Last night my team played around 11 matches or so. We played 2 Khylo, 1 Foefire, 2 Forest, 6 Temple. Night before had a similar breakdown in maps played.

I am only replying to what you’ve told us. Basically: “I am too afraid to play on my rank 800 account so I bought another account and now I am 35% and can’t crawl out.”

Play 100 games on your rank 800 account then come show me its still not 35%

I said I bought the second account months ago because of the Team Q issues.

And I said I AM afraid of playing the 800 since the matches can be unfair and tank my rating down due to ridiculous matches with top 100 players, likely on TS.

As I said, I can see you want to insult me and put me down. Anyone can see it.

This is just wrong. If you are afraid of playing in the top 800 because of who you can be matched with or against then it means your not on that level. Its solo, not team, so if you join you have the same odds as getting the ringer team as playing against them.

The fact on your other account that you can’t carry a team at rank 35% playing against other rank 35% people means you probably deserve to be around there. After all, 5 35%‘s vs 4 35%’s and a self proclaimed top 1000 should result in a win by your team every time, right?

Its interesting to see people complain about match making NOW when everything is solo and your being paired with players around your rank. If you are better then them you should win most games since the other 9 players in the match are ‘below’ you.

Today when I went to purchase gems I got a message that said my order was ‘pending’ and I should receive my gems shortly. I have used this CC to purchase gems in the past without issue and thus far have not received the gems from this purchase. I see my purchase pending on my card.

I’m also dissapointed about it being all temporary but I’ll take a wait and see attitude towards it… after all, we don’t know WHY it’s permanent in the first place. For all we know kralkatorrik might show up and destroy the whole place leading to some new dungeons in the zone and stuff like that leading to an epic worldwide event (hey, the game was released on august 28th, the first anniversary will fall during this event).

That said, as Ursan said, Anet promised more permanent living world content 2 weeks ago, by then everything we’re seeing in this patch, or at least what will be released tomorrow, was most likely all wrapped up and doing some last moment testing and tweaking, and I’d be willing to say everything for the next couple of month of updates are probably already not only planned but VERY advanced into producton. If anything I think we’ll probably start seeing some more permanent content around october at the very least (that is assuming they didn’t have some planned to begin with, maybe for the anniversary).

I welcome you to go back and read one of my previous posts with a list of Colin’s quotes dating back to over a month ago where he explicitly acknowledges they will work on more permanent content. A blog post does not mean that is the first ever mention of something, in fact that usually means the work is to a point that there is no going back.

But there are people who HAVE seen this content or have been given more information then we had who are expressing the same concerns we are here. That the content is another clone of previous events with ‘scavenger hunt’ tasks and temporary content that is time gated and extremely difficult. Our concerns are not unfounded.

The specific “concern” Anthony addresses is the concern that the wait times for the Gauntlet might be too unreasonable. Which is completely unfounded, and the only mention of wait time by people who have previewed it is Dulfy mentioning “there might be a line.”

You shouldn’t take a Dev’s word out of context.

Any wait in order to play content due to a gated gameplay mechanic is certainly not an unfounded concern. Here are the facts: 6 people can play at 1 time max, the game time max is 2 minutes. 75 people can be in the zone before an overflow is created. That is a 25 minute (2 * 75 / 6) wait at peak. Certainly not all 75 will be queued, but certainly in a full zone more then 6 people will be playing the temporary content. There will be a line in that case. How is this disputed or unfounded?

Colin’s blog post was posted about 2 weeks ago. He started talking about permanent content during Secret of Southsun, which was only 2 month ago. We know the Living Story arcs take 4 months to develop. Why are people expecting such fast development cycles, again?

The new Champ loot including the new weapon skins and material bag drops are permanent. Oh and those skins: They drop off champs, not in the gem store.

The new sPvP solo queue is permanent.

The Account Currency Wallet is permanent.

Every update is going to have temporary content. Every update is going to have permanent content. The temporary content keeps the game fresh. The permanent content improves quality of life and gives us new armor and weapon skins and more options to our game play.

The new Champion content is going to see a LOT of use by players. There are really interesting Champion fights out there that no one really does because people just want loot chests. this update is fixing that permanently.

Again, the issue is none of that is permanent playable content. Everything you listed is quality of life updates, which while very important, do not add directly to new things to play permanently in the game.

Looks like people dont get what i mean. I don’t mean permanent changes. i know the dungeon changes and champion changes are permanent. But so what? Im talking NEW PLAYABLE CONTENT not changes

Im with you. Playable content is not the same as QOL updates.

I get you. You want the content focus to be all permanent content. They are doing that in the future which Colin has stated repeatedly. They are also trying out this two weeks thing. I personally love it because it keeps the content fresh. I play a lot so getting an expansion every year is not as fun for me as what they are doing with these two week updates. I also enjoy being able to do the meta events with all my guildies as opposed to other MMOs that make me play with a party only. There are other games out there that do the expansion content and then menial stuff throughout the year. Let’s be patient with ArenaNet and see where they take this 2 week update thing over the course of say, a year. There really isn’t any precedent for it and they are learning on the fly as they go.

The other part of me is tiring of all the incessant whining on the forums. No one has said, “Thanks ArenaNet for giving us the new skins off of enemies and not through the BLTC.”

At some point if people don’t agree with the core concept of where they are heading with game design, there are other options out there. I for one am excited for where all of this is going and ArenaNet to me is treating it’s customers great.

I can agree with you on a few topics, and I completely disagree on a few others.

On the case of 2 week releases vs expansion every year, which number is greater 10 or (2+2+2+2+2)? Its an interesting concept that some people like and dislike. From a content release standpoint, sure Ill take content more frequently, however I will not take that option if the content we receive will never be playable again. So while there is no precedent for this release cycle they have heard their user base begging for more permanent playable content since March yet we have received very little in that department. Which brings me to a topic that I completely disagree with you one. Anet has promised us the world, and has given us a tiny jar of sand. And its throughout the game. No grind turned into a little grind with ascended gear. ESports ready PvP turned out to be a game mode with little launch support. So many things we have been promised throughout development and after release have fallen through to the point that as developers they now fear to release any information until something is ready for release. This has a HUGE drawback of being developed without any input from the community that will be using this content. To me, that is hardly treating the customer great.

This is just not true. After it was revealed that Molten facility was not going to be permanent in March the outcries have come in and subsequently acknowledged by the development team. This is not a new issue that has only be prevalent since the latest Southsun event.
