Why must the developers not make a similar item that all GW2 players can enjoy?

Guild Wars 1 players worked their butts off for some of those rewards.

I’m ok with them being added to the game, they’re a bit different to the Fellblade, but, it’s a slipperly slope. How long until all HoM skins are just rehashed slightly for self entitled GW2-only players to obtain?

Getting 30/50 was not really ‘work your butt off’. Hard, maybe, not overly difficult and pretty common. 50/50 and GWAM, that was ‘work your butt off’ to get.

I’m sure they’re used to this by now, Achievement rewards almost saved her… Almost. Now for real spvp fixups!

Achievement rewards did nothing if you consider that the pvp rewards from there are just generic tournament win chests…

Actually, the armor I am using now is 2 pieces of Achievement armor, 1 dragon helm from PvE event, backpiece from PvE event and the rest from gemstore. My weapons are all Zenith. I am literally not using a single PvP reward from a chest.

They are all far to common making them near worthless… and by near, I mean they are worthless. 100k+ worth of Glory sitting around doing nothing because… well whats the point of spending it.

You must be pretty kitten ed about Breath of Jormag, then. That’s just a reskin of the flame sword from HoM and it’s been ingame since release.

I’m not. In fact my warrior dual wields FDS main hand and Breath of Jormag in offhand. I did it on purpose. Icy and Fiery Dragon Swords were both in GW1 and IDS was not promised as a HoM reward.

Fellblade was.

Your missing the point…

HOM promised FDS as an exclusive – GW2 adds IDS for all to get that is LITERALLY an exact replica with different coloring

HOM promised Fellblade as an exclusive – GW2 adds a different weapon type with a resized skin with added effects

How at all are these different, and thus how at all can you be ok with 1 and not the other? If your going with IDS was GW1, Fellblade in GW1 was a 1-H sword. In that case you should be upset that the HOM rewarded you with something not even in the game.

No one has any idea where Jormag is. There is no proof at all he is closer to Kryta then anywhere else in the north. Not to mention that his minions have never entered Krytan lands and thus have yet to pose any threat to Kryta.

Interesting that you mention the ebb and flow of the centaur wars… cause during that we defeat the current centaur leader everytime. Whens the last leader of the humans been killed by a centaur? I think humans are doing just fine defending themselves at this point.

When isnt there disapproval by some for the actions taken by their leader? Good news is we know who was a prominent force behind it. I think at this point they have a pretty good handle on things on that front.

So again, why do humans need a morale boost at this point? They just finalized a treaty with the Charr which secures even more peach for their lands. They just defeated the only dragon to ever attack Krytan lands in the rememberable past.

Why?

Because the centaurs are still there, still killing people.
Because there are those for whom the scars of war with the Charr run too deep and still try to seek revenge and sabotage the fragile peace.
Because many of them have had loved ones die.
Because other dragons exist, and they don’t care about borders.
Because travelers come from these not so distant lands and tell tales of Icebrood and Sons of Svanir, of the Branded and other creatures corrupted.
And because they’re human.

1) This is Tyria, walk outside the walls of DR and giant wasps will even try killing you. I think these people are a little battle hardened already.
2) Yes, there are separatists that dislike the queens treaty. How is HER throwing a party going to help their morale?
3) Sure… loved ones died, I concede that one (though every race has had their struggles, I dont see the Asurans having a shindig in Metrica Province to cheer themselves up)
4) Again, and I dont know why you refuse to read this, the dragons have never posed a direct threat in recent memory to Kryta. Sure, the minions may not ‘care’ about borders but they still certainly arent crossing them into Kryta.
5) So scary stories have depleted the morale of DR? Right…
6) Human’s of Tyria are prided on their courage and their will, so I dont know what your getting at implying that they have low morale because of their race.

Better is a very relative term. To me the pink/purple inscriptions absolutely destroy that sword and make it much much worse. Also, really how many people do you see running around with the HOM weapons because they think they are prestigious?

I use them. But no I wasn’t talking about the pink because I think that’s a disgrace to the Fellblade (which was ONE of the better looking swords in GW1) I am talking about the smoke around it.

In GW1 the fellblade had mist inside the blade that was animated. The GW2 counterpart had like purple smoke bellowing off of it and you can hardly notice it. This new one appears to have great new affects surrounding it.

And it’s not about how many people run around with them. The rewards were exclusive to GW1 players who completed certain tiers of HoM. Does it not seem wrong that they’re introducing variations of those weapons in GW2?

I’m not saying I won’t use them if I get one, because I absolutely will, I just feel like it’s kind of a punch to the face to anyone who completed HoM. Who knows what’s next?

And the 2-H Fellblade remains unique and exclusive to players of GW1 who got to a certain tier. Should we be upset that they released a Charr mini pet because they are similar to the HOM rewards? Or more cat minis like the Orange Tabby from HOM?

And honestly, we need to get away from LA. Hopefully this is a good start, but not everyone enjoys pirates, pirates, pirates, more pirates, a few more pirates and a ton more pirates. I honestly could not care any less about the on going’s of LA and its people anymore. If I have to save those people 1 more time then they are no longer worth saving.

In case you forgot, it was at Dragonbash that one of the council members died. Now we’re having an election, and the arrival of the Zephyrites and potential trade agreement would be a nice feather in the cap for whomever secures it.

This is leading into the tenth anniversary of Queen Jenna’s rule so of course she’s going to throw a bash in Divinity’s Reach to celebrate and also raise morale in the face of dragons, centaurs and ministers with nefarious intents.

I agree all this festivals…WTH there are Dragons destroying the world and all Anet wants to do is party..Lame mini games and so on! How about something imaginative setting us out on a quest to get something done rather then jumping around for crystals or racing in some race. Anet seems to be implanting more Games within the Actual GAME! Get the “LIVING STORY” Living Already.. Please I beg send us out on Treks give us adventure NOT Festivals and MINI Games!

They are making us do more then mini games! They made us the janitors of Tyria while depthless NPCs take all the glory for our work. Dont you like to collect crystals, clean up holograms, destroy magical doors, find lost kites, or destroy random portals anymore? If you dont like cleaning up Tyria, your more then welcome to help track random and useless energy readings around LA and its surroundings with random detectors that magically serve the exact purpose we need it to!

Summary: Anet, this story is boring, the things you make us do are boring, everything is very predictable, you dont give us any substantial lore in game to make us care and at this point we are min/maxing to get our achievement points.

Is it going to include awesome cinematics that are completely unwatchable when using 3 monitors like every other event. If not for youtube I would have even less an idea of what is going on and why I am doing the things im doing.

Original cinematics up to Fractals work just fine… new story event cinematics gives me lovely closeups of random eyes, noses and lips.

The new cinematics look fine on my 1 monitor…..

Thats great? That doesnt help that people using multi monitor setups are completely screwed when it comes to cinematics.

Seriously, are they doing anything about that? I’m starting to think the dragons may have learned from the last time that eating everything completely wasn’t a good idea, and are just consuming in moderation…but that’d be giving them too much credit.

Or maybe they got bored and just send up their minions for amusement. Maybe they found “nirvana” or whatever and decided they didn’t need to eat everything to be happy.

Ok, in all seriousness, I am wondering when we’re actually going to do something about that, because it’s like the world has forgotten they’re still out there. Or do the dragons have to attack Lion’s Arch before anyone notices? Sigh.

“We could attack and wreck everything while they’re celebrating again…but that’s too much work. Leave it to our minions, they’ll figure something out.”

Bear in mind that Zhaitan rose over 100 years ago in-game, and Primordus rose over 200 years ago. These guys have been around for quite some time, so devouring the world obviously takes a while.

1) The benefit of splitting Solo Arena and Team Arena is that each can have its own rotation.

2) Random map rotation is coming.

3) Will get to when we can. There are a lot of little things like this that just constantly slip past each deadline because we’re busy working on features.

For #3 I wouldnt say losing out on half of your progression is a ‘little’ thing, especially for people who purely tPvP.

You all realize that Solo Queue is going to be exploited beyond belief right? People will all queue at once with the same leaderboard ranking to get in the same group to cheat the system.

This happened with Random Arenas, and it wasn’t against the ToS.

Yeah, they have to make sure that you can’t “sync” the solo queue or it will be abused. I don’t agree with the OP though. Find a 5th if you want to team queue. If people were allowed to queue as a group of 2 in solo queue even, it would completely destroy it and give the advantage to players that aren’t actually queuing solo. At that point, you may as well call it duo queue.

How will you find this 5th person in game is the question. Sure you can come to the forums or Reddit and post a LFG. Or spam Anvil Rock chat. But my team and my friend base were all built on random Solo/Duo/Triple/Quad Q and their connections and they will be removing that with this update.

Obviously this is a huge quality improvement and needs to happen, but the OP does provide a valid concern.

Well, you can meet people in the mists or scout hotjoins for people to add to your friends list that want a tPvP team. You can also do things like you stated.

Yup, not saying this is the only way, just responding to the guy who discounted the OPs concerns unjustly.

Sure, we play against soloQ’s sometimes but 90% of the time in the top 1000 I am playing against premades in a premade vs premade match and if I do face a soloQ team its players all in the top 1000 that soloQ so the advantage is not as large as this forum makes it out to be. To say we farmed our rank by playing against soloQ is insulting.

I’m sorry but you are wrong. You face solo queue a lot more than you are leading people to believe. The proof of that is in the top 100 win rates. In a good elo system, you would not have 75-90% win rates. If you were fighting mostly other premades, your win rates would show that and you would be looking at 50-60% win rates generally.

And to the guy who said im doing something wrong if Im losing to SoloQs. First, never said I was losing at any consistent rate to SoloQ players, what I am arguing is people come in here and say they are beating SoloQ players 500-0 every time and that is what they are playing every time, if you go look up those players they arent in the top 1000. Obviously those SoloQ players are doing something right to remain in the top 1000.

Yes, but many of the teams have much higher than you. There is an obvious exploit in the system where teams can force themselves into fighting solo queues if it isn’t happening naturally.

Most players I have seen with 65%+ ratio played very early when match making was an issue. They got their 100-300 wins while losing rarely and rode that to the top where they now sit. Because LB degeneration is extremely slow there they remain. If you look at the leaderboards most top players with skewed ratios have ~500 games or less, usually much less (around ~50 games).

Im not saying there was never an issue with SoloQ and match making, but since their tweaks it has been substantially better, yet people seem to not accept this because they need something to complain about. Look now, there is already a thread complaining about SoloQ being added.

This is what I predict,
premades will form groups of 4 or 3 whatever is allowed in solo que, they will become top 25 and act like they did it solo que.
Hate to be a naysayer but I know somebody is going to do it. Wont be that hard either because everytime I goto check to see what people do in anvil rock you got all these preps that think they cool sitting around they cant do kitten because theres not enough of them, but they could form a group and pwn in solo que.

Those people that you think are good at solo que, they normally have a friend or two with them, which makes them a lot harder to beat because they don’t party with bad players, so which in turn reduces chances of having bad players on there team because there friend takes his/her spot and places them on the other team which gets destroyed and makes you believe that that one guy is super amazing, which he probably is but its not all him. This is a team game, even those good players need other good players around them, hence why you don’t see good players 1v1 peeps a lot its mostly 5v1 in hotjoins, they don’t want to make themselves look bad.

SoloQ is purely SoloQ. They already said they would not allow any sized groups because if you allow a team of 2, why not a team of 3, ect.

history taught me this way. so im asking for more information on ladder splitting then there is now.
from game experience there were very few changes and as it looks im doing the same things after patch as i do now. i still have to play on a map for several days in a row and will still get more reward for hot-zerging.

Sure, we play against soloQ’s sometimes but 90% of the time in the top 1000 I am playing against premades in a premade vs premade match and if I do face a soloQ team its players all in the top 1000 that soloQ so the advantage is not as large as this forum makes it out to be. To say we farmed our rank by playing against soloQ is insulting.

The majority of SoloQ players that have had issues and come here to complain are in the 70-90% rank range. Thats the point where teams start to form and soloQ players begin to run into them. You also get the issue that bad players that have been carried to that range are no longer able to keep up bringing teams down.

1. Romek is right you can easily reach top 100 only by farming soloq with your team.

2. My team is facing soloq 50% of the time although we are pretty high rated.

3. I know tons of r500+ soloq players who play on a top 50 skilllevel. If a top 100 teamplayer decides to start soloq he will drop like 200-300 ranks within 1-2 days cause soloq players keep facing good r40-50+ premades with r5-20s in their team.

4. Stop feeling like a boss and forbid people to talk cause your a “top” player. This forum is made to discuss and improve things and your behaivor doesnt allow that.

1) Yea, sure its simple to get to top 100 IF you are playing against soloQ. In NA thats just not the case. The second you get into top 90% you are facing team after team with only an occasional SoloQ team so you arent farming these teams anymore, and those soloQ teams are filled with high ranked and highly organized players the vast majority of the time.

2) Maybe its just NA vs EU thing, but playing 10 games yesterday we faced 0 SoloQ teams and over the past say week I have played maybe 5% of my matches against SoloQers. My team is all around the 500 +/- 200 LB rank NA.

3) The SoloQ teams I do face, they are highly organized because at that point they have learned how to comunicate via chat, know which builds work regardless of a team comp and are able to provide fine competition. Not nearly the roflstomp this form makes SoloQ vs Team matches out to be.

4) I never forbade anyone from speaking, but if people are going to make baseless claims that are insulting to players that have worked to get better at this game and climb the leaderboard Im going to respond. And my rank and how I have gotten there has given me insight to the different Leaderboard levels and how matches on those levels go, atleast in NA.

Lol, people on here acting like CC played 7 straight hours against the very best of GW2’s EU community. We just going to ignore the fact they played stupid easy matches the first 2 rounds, and starting in round 2 had breaks between all matches while other teams played?

They played a total of 9 matches before facing TP, with an average game length of say 10 minutes they only ‘played’ an hour and a half. Oh boy! They are going to complain because they had to sit at their computers? Im sure TP was sitting there too for some time trying to find teams to warm up against and being ready to play when that side of the bracket finished, and they had to play the same “rigorous” schedule CC had to the day before. If anything TP being required to come back after an emotionally draining day and be ready to play in a single round that determines a winner of everything is far harder then playing 9 matches in a single day and then playing in the finals.

About the rule change. Sure it may suck because it didnt roll your way but I promise you this thread isnt made if CC wins. Not to mention you agreed to abide by all rules and rule changes decided upon on the admins of the tournament when you signed up.

About TP having a map advantage because it was B05, thats absolutely insane. If Forest was CC’s map, and Foefire was TP’s map the round STILL would have been decided on Khylo.

About giving any care about where a person lives and plays the game… obviously Anet approved and they should. This is supposed to find the BEST team, not the team that was able to win because on a technicality the top players were kept out.

About use of macros. In this situation does it really matter? If someone did use macros they are in for a world of hurt when they show up to PAX and cant use them anymore.

I think that covers almost everything I’ve read in this horrible thread. We talk about wanting to build a community and building GW2 as an esport. Who in their right mind would want to come join a community that constantly belittles each other, rages at each other and is overall pretty terrible?

Remember when anet used to boldly proclaim how proud they were about their iterative process? “if we don’t like something, we scrap it completely and try a whole new revision” or something along those lines. I agree with the op almost completely and think this is an excellent write up of what’s wrong with “the state of the game” right now and I pray they actually have a discussion about toning everything down next sotg, maybe it might actually bring great threads like this into their due spotlight.

The have actually done this iterative process. The old tourney system didnt work, it was completely removed and 1 round tourneys were added. They arent working because of team vs solo players so they are redoing it again with that split.

Maybe they are on a deadline and only have time to develop one fractal, and instead of them just throwing one out there, letting us decide on which one it gets to be.

They could be working on an expansion or something similar and don’t have time to be implementing all of the fractals they want to add.

I think the point is that if you only knew 1 existed you would be ok with it because its something new. Knowing there are 2 options and we get to pick, the people who wanted the one that isnt implemented will be upset because while they get new things, its not the thing they want.

Its like when your young and your parents always got you the same kind of shoes, or bought clothes for you. At the time it was just fine because you didnt know there were other options. But once you learn about your options that thing that was just fine before isnt alright anymore.

I think deathmatch would work Did some 2v2s with friends in my CA just for the funzies, and even bunkers went down. Not a gamebreaker if you take one or don’t.

Some reworked or new formats, doesn’t matter, I don’t think ppl want the exact same HA back, just a global tournament where winning a match actually makes you feel some kind of progress, the more you win the more rank points you get, many maps and game modes are maxed in a row, and the HoH winner team is broadcasted, gets into observer and has access to some kind of reward.

They had this with reward chests in the 3 round tournaments. People complained that they took too long to complete.

So which is it community – are you willing to play in a pvp match for a possible long time, or do you want shorter matches?

HA was global, 3 round tournaments weren’t. Also, it was the same gamemode just on different maps in a row.
Also, in HA you wanted to get to the HoH, but here after 3 wins the streak just ended. There, if you managed to get into the last map, it was awesome by itself, and if you won, you had the chance to hold it against others. It was a race against everyone else in the world doing HA at the moment. And that was awesome.

We arent getting more game modes. Its not happening. It needs to stop being asked for. Until someone actually comes out with a viable 5 man game mode that matches the required skill and communication that conquest does that works with GW2’s class approach you can bring it up again. So far, besides people crying death match, there has been no actual suggestion for an improved system that would work.

Though yes, tournaments should have been global.

There used to be and still are many many sugestions around. People even try to make custom arenas fit their ideas.

I have never seen a server run anything other than conquest and death match. Please, explain to me these other concepts that will fit with the GW2 class structure.

I know how to play my thief, don’t assume things you dont know.

P/D needs a reworks i agree but a greate way to start it will be having more access to sneak attack the only real attack this set has.

About positioning, god man don’t mix things, we need to be out stealth and in the area to cap, that makes very very vulnerable to a thief with no denfense or health.

And don’t exaggerate the evasion build, i also saw the video of this thief against 2 bad players winning easily.

If you play the evasion build you will see for real how much damage you get anyways.

I’am not saying we are the underdog of the game.
I’am not saying i want a buff because i cant kill anyone.

The only thing i say is that there is no reason to have 4 seconds revealed . . . if there is please let me know.

Why are you by yourself capping in the first place? Your a roamer, you should decap and out unless you know the number advantage everywhere and in both cases you dont need stealth because you’ll be alone.

There is a reason high level teams still bring a thief and thats because they are still effective. Just because you can no longer be in stealth and 1 hit a man down does not mean it needs a buff again to make the class effective. So sorry that bringing Thief on par with most every other class made it harder for you to face roll…

Also – I will continue to assume as you havent shown you know tPvP as a whole. You may know YOUR class but you clearly dont know other classes (BM Ranger and Turret Engi?! Really?!?!) and without that knowledge there is no way you can logically make an argument that your class needs a buff to compensate something.

I will be more clear then, because i can see you dont understand.

P/D: This build needs to constantly stealth for the Sneak Attack, its main bleed attack (actually the only one that really stacks bleed)

D/D: GC thieves now are really bad in SPVP, they die really fast because we have no denfense or health, any other profession can easily kill you in 3 seconds.

General:

1.- Stealth is the only real defense we have, evading works only with 1 build S/D and we still get a lot of damage because of our abd defense and low health.

2.- P/D the only one that can permastealth will not permastealth in SPVP because they need to cap, but we really need our defense mechanic back to scape to the 3mx3m fight area in SPVP.

3.- The difference between WvW and SPVP in the revelaed time is anoying, because is hard to get use to the timming differences (i already learn this but for most is anoying).

4.- Now we dont have mug, the burst damage we had is gone, there is no reason to be scare for a backstab now because is not that strong anyways.

5.- Other classes recieve greate things, like a guardian, virtually imposible to kill if they go full tank, and we dont complain, is his roll and i love that, but what do we have FOR SPVP?.

And there are more reasons but i know only that people that plays thief will understand.

1) Positioning is and should be way more important then stealth when in a fight.
2) If your fighting 3v3 then refer to point #1. You need to position better to be effective in the fight, not worry about your escape route if things go bad. (Also shouldnt need perma stealth to disengage something)
3) PvP != the rest of the game, thats just a fact
4) There are still other burst builds, you shouldnt have to rely on a single skill to be the way to kill someone
5) This is just laughable. Guardian was already pretty balanced and the update did not change that fact.

Based on your comments about an engi playing turrets being strong, you are either not tPvPing or you are very new (as that build would get demolished in high level play). Almost everything you mention you need stealth for in PvP you dont, its so much more about positioning so Im sorry to say this really sounds like a learn to play argument. Just because other classes get buffs does not mean Thief gets one just because… thats called power creep and is very very bad long term for the game.

The issue with threads like this where its all…. GW1 PvP was awesome port it to GW2 NOW!!!… is that while yes, GW1 did infact have amaing pvp, it will not work in the GW2 era because of lack of healing. For better or worse, because each class was created to be responsible for their own health a game style like capture the points is one of the only mechanics that would work.

Imagine your playing a HA game with GW2 professions. First round you come up to your opponents and the team fight occurs, 1 person gets burst down pretty quickly and now your team lost the team fight and thus the game. GG. A whole 30 seconds passed and the match is over. With conquest a team fight starts going bad and your team is able to then try and move for map control while you wait for your timed revivals to get back in the match. Death match with other mechanics ala HA/GvG just plain wont work.

Im sorry. GvG and HA will never work in GW2.

They had /resign in GW1 and it caused ZERO grief. Needs to be added. Same with a /gameend for servers before the match begins to progress the map. 2 biggest missing things when it comes to missing commands.

You all don’t get it. It’s new AND bad. Nobody said they don’t like new things. They don’t like bad things no matter how new they are.

More than Spirit Watch the map demands you play certain professions with certain builds. It’s narrow and any serious teams will gravitate towards the most minmaxed compositions because that’s what try hards do.

Demands you play certain builds? You mean… almost exactly like the current meta? Could it be that THAT is exactly why you didn’t like it? I think so.

Current meta allows for a wide range of options, it just fits under the same paradigm of roles. Yes, every team will have that bunker (and skyhammer didnt change that). Atleast in our current meta your team fight can consist of different combinations of elementalists, necromancers, engineers, thieves, and mesmers (even warrior/ranger depending on build and strategy) and your home point defender can be speced all sorts of different ways (1v1, bunker, hybrid) and thus allows for different class choice (mesmer, ranger, engineer).

Compare that to Skyhammer, which already mentioned in this thread allows for the compensation of player skill with cheesy mechanics. This locks you into playing either a class with constant stability or constant control, where maximizing the quantity of control skills takes precedent over anything else. The issue with this map is the instant kills which promotes taking only cc classes as they are far far more powerful then actually damaging and killing your opponent. Until other classes get equal cc as the guardian/necromancer/engineer this map will be unbalanced, and in adding ccs to other classes you ruin the overall balance of the game.

I love people coming in here that I have never seen playing in tPvP saying this map is fine for tournaments. Perhaps its now because you feel like you have an equal footing against better teams? Too bad that the game had to add a cheap mechanic to make up for your lack of skill.

A gimmick team will beat a team of skilled player playing as a balanced team 9 times out of 10. Thats not creating variety and breaking meta, thats creating a new meta on a new map to take advantage of overpower map mechanics which eliminates individual player skill to an extreme degree.

Seems people can’t learn to play. Too many 1 v 1 s and 1 v 2s on maps like Spirit Watch and Skyhammer I guess. RIP the best of the maps. These secondary mechanics really change the games up. No longer can players just focus on holding points and killing players but have to actually fight off point over a cannon or an orb. These are the things that make the game interesting. Hopefully more valuable secondary mechanics can enter the game unlike kyhlo, forest, and foefire.

Playing a build that ignores all stats and purely focuses on the skills effects does not make the game interesting. It focuses players to play gimmick builds to take advantage of the mechanics added.

Good sPvP map, terrible tournament map.

If you’re complaining about Warriors in Skyhammer, you probably don’t know how to play warrior very well because they can do some serious damage in the cannon room.

Also guess 70% of proplayers that don’t want this in turneys either should learn to play, too.

Nice statistic you pulled out of thin air, and yes they should learn to be more diverse.

Assuming we are considering pro players in the top 1000 or even top 500… then all of them I have talked to and played with, we all generally agree this map is terrible for tournaments. I was very sad to hear Mist League was adding it to their rotation.

Also – Im glad you think we should be more diverse… cause playing gimmick builds to take advantage of gimmick mechanics really shows who the better players are right?
