Seriously, each 10 games 1 or 2 feels balanced and are fun to play,

The rest are either imposible or boring,

Many times I’ve faced 3 or 4 guys on the same guild with ranks between 40 and 50 against 5 pugs with levels behind 20, (and i’m saying many times),

A random matchmaking would be even better than this, not allowing people to choose their teams, it would be fair at least,

That’s how good is your matchmaking system, worst than random,

I’d like to recomend a handicap system to avoid high queues, but the result would be hilarious take in consideration the actual matchmaking system you did guys,

I come to realize that anet caters to premades, you have to realize that the people on sotg are premade players and don’t solo que.

Most of the complaints here are from solo que players and you have premade players coming here saying “oh ya I’m loving the change, I face so many solo que’ers and win now, hope it stays like this forever because I don’t stand a chance against another premade”

Actually, coming from a player who IS facing those top players, often times they are playing in solo or duo q. I have played against players on the top premade teams but I have NEVER faced a full top premade team.

I think the area of issue is the 70-80% range of rank where premades start to form and bad soloq players remain. Past that range the soloq players are better, communicate and play builds that arent trash and below that players are generally more ‘experimental’ with their builds and there are fewer premades.

This are is especially dicey because as premades from this range get better they start going up, but because they face tougher competition its very easy to drop back into the 70-80% range due to a string of loses to better players, while bad players can get carried pretty easily into the 70-80% range where they dont belong and they finally are too much a burden that the team cant overcome it.

To counter your statement, I think its not premade players that are happy with how its going because they are beating soloq players, but bad soloq players that think they are better then they really are losing games and not liking it.

And its biased why? I was that player. When leaderboards where introduced I played my old builds, thought I would still be good and fell to 50% leaderboard. Quickly raised because at low ranks its mainly soloq vs soloq. Got to 70-80% and was fianlly forced to review my build and become an actual good player. Then joined a new team of people of around the same skill level, we bounced around until we finally started to play better as a premade and moved into the 90% range and have since stabilized there (the update has only made it that much better with regards to stabilizing position rather than some huge influx because we lost 2 games).

When were the times I was anti match making and getting frustrated? When I was forced to consider what I was doing and stopped blaming everyone else on the team as the reason we lost. When was that during the 65-70-80% ranges. Im willing to bet if you found the vast majority of players who are complaining about balance they would fall in that rating range. That range is a transitional range, its going to be tough and there are going to be mismatches.

People get to caught up in little numbers next to each others name as an indication of skill, both the rank and the points total. As an example – my Rank 7 alt account is rated 990 right now in NA.

I Predict someone will Rank 80 in about a year and a half from now. Great posts in this thread though. I agree with most of them. There should be a real tournament and it shouldn’t be all Conquest all the time. I also feel that you should not be able to gain Glory in Hotjoin AND that you should only gain Glory when your team wins in tournament sPvP. But they haven’t implemented tournament sPvP. What they call tournaments are single round Team Arena vs Random Arena.

As far as PvP is concerned they haven’t done a single thing right. I saw the GW2 box in Gamestop yesterday. It had the nerve to say that the game has “World Class PvP”. Can you believe that False Advertising? World Trash PvP is more like it. I used to be one of ANet’s biggest fans too……

While yes there should be better tournament formats, you need a player base to populate those tournaments. So it becomes a bit of a chicken vs egg question.

Do you implement better tournament structure (which by the way they already had and removed due to low population and complaints of length of time to complete) and hope that attracts more players risking development time and money for something that may not work, or do you wait for the population to grow and then implement features when there are more players to use them risking the population never growing?

Based on the fact they had a better tournament system, people complained it took to long and so they removed it, they are clearly making the right choice to wait for the population to grow by advertising the 3rd party tournaments. And personally, its posts and opinions like that which are hurting the community. Claim they cant make decisions or do anything right while begging for them to add something that we begged them to get rid of in the first place… so really, who is the ones that cant make decions? (Spoiler, the answer is the player base)

There is no way they would say anything about anything other than on patch day, when they release the notes.

Anet is under no obligation to clarify anything because it wasn’t posted by them. There is no link between Anet and those notes, so they have nothing to deny.

This is what it means to have the right to remain silent.

Lol, the right to remain silent does not mean that the public doesnt get to judge and make an opinion. When people came out saying the pricing of arenas would be X amount we heard Anet come out and say no, the information is wrong. When the new PvP map was data mined what did Anet do, they came out and confirmed its existence but gave no details because it may change.

Now in this case, skills were leaked. They have set a pretty good precedent of coming out and straight denying false information. Yet they remain silent. Its very easy for a company to come out and deny something false when the patch is going to come out and justify their claim. So when a company regularly denies things that are false stays silent, a flag should be going up.

Now they arent going to come out and confirm that the leak is true. Why? Because if even 1 stat changes people will be out here complaining that they confirmed something and it didnt turn out to be true. But they confirmed the new map, you say. They confirmed it exists, no details beyond that. What will they do here, confirm the patch is coming? We already know that.

Based on all the information we have at hand, and the precedents Anet has set, the conclusion seems to be pointing to the leaked information is far closer to correct then to false.

it looks like all GW2Hub did was reformat the leaked notes and take out any non-trait-specific information.

There is no notice of confirmation from Anet, not a single dev word about them.

Proper gaming journalism sites like Massively and 1UP haven’t committed to these notes either.

I doubt they are real.

Silence from Anet implies quite the opposite. Its easier to ignore a leak that is true then to deny it and then look stupid when its released and found to be true. There is no way they would confirm the leak before incase things change in anyway from the leak, as people would then jump on them that the information they released doesnt match the patch notes.

Instead we are likely to see changes extremely similar to the leaked notes which slight number changes since the notes were probably an earlier revision of changes then the ones being released.

I’m pretty sure they said they will be reworking the reward system.

Though gw1 did have something similar with the hero title, the first player to reach max rank reached it after a few years of dedicated playing.

The difference is, it actually required skill and competitive play. The only thing these both titles share are the animations, nothing else.

Skill or not it still took what, 6 years to reach Phoenix in GW1 and that was from a dedicated player. If your playing casual as OP said then you shouldnt reach the max ranks.

Still not quite working better. Que times seem to be increasing since the new algorithm was introduced.

I am seeing a lot of this as well. I know they are going by ranking, but in reality, I would feel a lot better if they were by PvP level first, THEN by ranking. The current system allows for a lot of mismatches.

Yesterday a group of us, all in the teens, got placed against a bunch of 30+ some almost 40. Needless to say we got destroyed. Hard.

It is absolutely no fun at all when you are mismatched from the get go.

This makes no sense. PvP level is an artifical statistic that has no bearing on your ability in tournaments. It should have NO bearing on who you get matched with. The issue is that most r10- dont have the skills to play yet with high rated players, but I have played plenty of teams whose r30s and r40s clearly came from hot join and didnt belong against my team either. That is why rating is far far far more important. The issue is when new players start to tournament where do you rank them. That is the system they need to improve so that players with say 10 tournament games arent going against players with 200+.

Practice Times: Typically we play tournaments during the week and scrimmage other teams on the weekends. We usually start playing at 7-8pm EST though once we fill the team we will set a firm schedule.

Amount of members: 3

Class(es) you are looking for: Versitile mesmer with great communication and above average portal play. HGH Engineer with high knowledge of map locations for maximum use of grenades.

We have our own dedicated and private Ventrillo server. You MUST have a working mic and must communicate as this is the most important part of PvP. An ideal candidate would be around 80%+ on the leader boards with 150+ tournament wins or Champion title for your class, though we will try out anyone interested. Our goal is to not only be a good automated tournament team but also participate in Mist League and other outside tournaments.

No warrior buff mentioned.

Its hard to disagree with op.

Directly from the post: “…warriors will have an option to remove conditions when using burst abilities.”

We’ll see how it’s implemented and what other changes are made, but I’m pretty sure this could qualify as a Warrior buff.

This thread is fairly ridiculous, seeing as there are only a handful of changes mentioned in the post, and they’ve stated that this is going to be the largest balance patch in the history of the game. At least wait until you know what’s actually happening before you call it a fail. It may very well be a fail, but for now, the claims are baseless.

Also, calling Torment on the Mesmer’s Scepter now. Not sure where it will fall for the Thief, but I’m betting on an underused utility or weapon set.

That option strongly suggests a gm trait, like we had our buff last patch with destruction of the empowered debacle.

Now this torment coming and the weakness buff means we must get more cond removal meaning sacrificing damage and/or defense. Leading to an even weaker warrior, while mesmer and thief are getting an easier time.

I can see it now, greatsword warrior forced to use the burst skill just to remove torment so that he can chase a thief… Warrior OP now… lol

You can’t go to State Of the Game, say that u want warriors to be able to force enemies to stay in melee range, and then give that condition to thieves and mesmers, don’t troll us so hard!

The same way they cant promise us more permanent content in PvE and then in the next update add yet another temporary dungeon? This company has either no communication or no respect for its player base… so long as their bottom line looks good.

Really?

Condition damage and burst can not be attained at the same time, with perhaps the exception of an Engi’s ability to stack Might and to a much lesser extent Ele. No backstab Thief on the face of this planet will be able to incorporate Torment in to a build.

Even if thats not the case, that they will be 100% unable to burst a character down with the use of torment, if the goal is to add variety to thief why do you give the class that is one of the best at disengaging more disengage power. Look at the warrior now. Already had no good gap closer besides Bull’s and now they have to deal with Torment on top of that? What is another top tier class at disengaging? Mesmer you say… wait they get Torment now too?

This scene was absolute garbage on 3 monitors. Normal cut scenes work just fine, they scale down to the center screen. This cutscene cut the frame down to my center screen but decided it would be just awesome to assume my resolution’s width would translate to its hight like a normal 16:9/16:10 monitor.

Lets just say… it was fantastic getting pictures of zoomed in lips and noses.

Hey Mezereon, have you tried using any of the custom arenas from the PvP browser? It might be better for you guys to practice that way!

The custom arena’s are either dueling servers or zergfests and due to them only being in beta, there aren’t a lot to choose from anyway. This might be a band-aid for when custom arena’s open to the public but it doesn’t fix the matchmaking.

I personally think each class should have it’s own ranking as well, instead of it being account wide, but I’d rather see the basics done first.

I don’t know what region are you Chesire but at least in EU we have some decent servers, of course not all are god but, if you are worried about zergfests use the filter to only show servers with max 5 players for each team, about dueling don’t join the servers that show 1/2 players. The best solution for me was that at least a player would need to be glory rank 10 to enter a tournament, but that will put some players apart and I think Anet don’t want that. But i don’t think is right for players that usually play tournaments to get players on their team that just got the game 1 minute ago.

Another point the most people forget in spvp tournaments – glory rank is not using for matchmaking, being rank 40 doesn’t mean that he is better than a rank 10/20/30

The NA scene is quite the opposite regarding servers. Either private team servers, duel servers or Glory Farm servers.

Overall Anet needs to stop handing out things to the privileged. First arenas to top players, then casting ability to a select few…

Thats the point, the playerbase is too low for a split que, we all saw it during the paid tournaments were online, huge queing time until game start.

2-Team Tournament Map Rotation

I personally like it, and a lot of people seemed to enjoy it when it was released.

Its a fine map in general, but it does not lend itself well to a competitive atmosphere like tournaments. It promotes far too much of class segregation as classes with instant move modifiers (thief, ranger) are able to score points far easier then other classes that rely purely of speed buffs.

You misunderstand basically everything I have said…

Im not saying get rid of hotjoin, let people that enjoy playing there play there. That however will NOT help a new player learn how tournament games are played even if you force people to try and replicate a tournament setting as not everyone in that hot join is going to be trying to also ‘train’ for tournaments. Only playing in tournaments will help you learn how to play tournaments. Playing intramural soccer isnt all of a sudden going to make a good soccer player in a team setting where communication and positioning are key… something that, like hotjoin pvp, is lacking compared to competitive play.

How do I propose to fix that issue? Make matchmaking better, something they are continuing to do. Hotjoin should not be a prerequisite for tournaments in the exact way that PvE shouldnt be a prerequisite for PvP. They are completely different game play styles. If and when matchmaking is working correctly new players will play other new players in tournaments instead of being put with higher ranked players creating a mismatch in current skill. But expecting a new player to go into hotjoin and ‘learn’ how to play in a tournament setting is a joke, its just never going to translate.

Edit: You also have claimed that I have turned this argument into an issue of personal rewards… perhaps you should look at who you are responding to before making such claims as I have, aside from this post, posted a single time in this thread never once mentioning personal rewards as any type of issue.

there were a “tournament training” achievement line which offered rewards and titles for successfully engaging tournent specific needs such as…

- an achievement for 25 wins for each map in rotation (each)
- an achievement for 100 kills vs each profession (each)
- an achievement for time spent within x range of an enemy node under attack
- an achievement for time spent within x range of a friendly node under attack
- an achievement for 250 over all kills while assaulting/defending
- an achievement for 25 revives

once all achievements are earned, the “tournament ready” title unlocks, and said player can queue for tourneys regardless of rank

this could be a series of challenges offered by a drill sergeant npc, and make a viable platform for progression based rewards

since you brought this back (and thanks!) i should also add – having had time to think more about it – that Anet could even restrict earning these achievements to hotjoin servers in the 100+ range which are all set to 5 man teams, ie: pseudo-tournaments.

Lets make it so that the already small player population of GW2 doesnt grow by adding unneeded restrictions on joining tournaments. Not to mention nothing in hot join resembles what a tournament will play like, even 5v5 man servers.

That suggestion implies that players should learn how to play PvP in a different format before they are considered “good enough” for tournaments. While we are at it why dont we make them have all sorts of PvE titles too since that will translate just as well as hot joins! Or… we could just continue to improve match making and grow our player population so that players who are new will be more likely placed with other new players.

What annoys me now is the lack of volatility. I played for 4 hours yesterday, went 11-3 and went up a whole 2% playing against people of rating higher than me on most occasions.

While I agree before it was far to wild, now it seems like me playing and winning has no effect on my ranking.

The only top players that received them were QP leaders. Otherwise, anybody who has received them expressed that they were planning to run a tournament.

And it just so happens that top teams consisted of players with top QP points. I never implied you gave servers to top teams, just that a bi-product of the initial distribution method has caused a bit of a rift between established teams and teams trying to enter into true competitive play.

Thats what we do right now. The issue is trying to schedule around their practice times, and that makes things difficult to setup. It can be hard to get together a team to play against, potentially finding a caster for better VOD review of the matches, and then find a time that works for not only all those parties but also now the team’s server you are borrowing.

Anybody can extend the life of a server, whether they are the owner of the server or not. If your friend has a server, you can apply your tokens to it if you want to keep using it.

We are open to sending kits out to folks who want to host a tournament during the beta, but beyond that, you will be able to use the tokens when we come out of beta.

My team would take one if your giving them out! We keep trying to set up scrimages but we dont have a perma server to play on. Right now we have to rely on one of the guilds who has a server letting us in during their off hours.

Really it kinda is hurting the community as good teams get servers and can practice while new teams are stuck either trying to get into a hotjoin with another server playing on maps that arent used in tourneys or playing tPvP which isnt real good practice for actual tournaments. Good teams keep getting better, new teams cant even become effective.

They’re not giving them out to guilds who want to scrim.
But if you’re trustworthy and hosting a tournament with prizes and shoutcasting you can probably rent a server.

Thats not the point of my post. My point is that they gave these servers out to top players and select other members. Those top players created their servers, locked them and now use them to run scrimmages and practice so that they can get better.

Us newer guilds did not receive any arenas, can’t reliably practice, can’t reliably scrimmage and thus cannot actively get better like the top guilds. Now you look at tournaments – typically the same teams playing, teams that have been together for a long time and teams that were ranked high enough to get servers to practice on.

What happens when a guild with the capability of practicing tournament situations faces a team that can only practice in tPvP games? Scores of 500-230, 500-76, 500-74 and casters that are angry thats the only matchup they could set up due to the small team base.

My point is that they need to release custom arenas to more players so that the community can actual grow equally. Not have the best teams get better and the new teams have to look at suboptimal ways to practice.

It is exactly the same as any other event skin guys. It is not a matter of “that even had nothing to do with PVP”.
That skin is connected to the vent. No event, no skin. It was the same for Halloween, it is the same for Rox and Braham weapons.

Really, then why do I keep buying Wooden Toy Daggers and Swords? I guess that means Wintersday is still on going? News to me.

Difference between F&F and Halloween – Halloween items in PvE and PvP were both RNG based. This time literally anyone with a day of little effort could get their guantlets in PvE, while people who played tPvP (like myself; 100+ wins, no gauntlets for any class) did not get them at all. If your going to make it pure RNG in PvE then make it that way in PvP, if your going to hand them out like free candy in PvE you better be doing the same in PvP. Make it limited time, I have no problem with that.

To be fair, they were a RARE item. Not everyone was supposed to get a pair, that’s what makes them special to have if you were lucky enough to snag a pair! Don’t worry, there’ll be plenty more “rare” items that you can shoot for in future events.

What this guy said, and point of an item being rare or unique is, you’d have to be around during that timeframe to earn them.

And no they aren’t that rare, cuz I rarely open my chests and guess what I have ALL THREE OF EM plus 1 on my toon for a total of 4. Still got a lot of chests stashed for whatever is next. BALLA kittenES!!!

I was around, I opened 100 boxes. According to you I should be swimming in gaunlets. Care to explain why I have none? Oh cause RNG stands for RANDOM number generator and your experiences doesnt mean everyone will share in the same results? I thought so…

The event of Molten Alliance ended.
Gauntlets disappeared.

It is perfectly logic and correct. They said it before and everyone knew it.

That event had nothing to do with PvP. I didnt see any dredge popping up during my pvp matches, so what exactly does the running of the event and the availability of the item in PvP have to do with each other?

You can get most of wintersday skins almost free from TP. Except the ones from gem shop ofc.

Getting fused gauntlets in PvE took me about 40 minutes. Somehow there EVERYONE could get them with next to no effort.

This. I can understand removing stuff from the gemstore, since it’s not RNG….but removing loot from victory chests without introducing a recipe to craft it? bad bad decision.

Not having the recipe to begin with was the bad idea. Add rare drop for those that dont want to craft, add the recipe for people who didnt get it from chests but have an excess of materials from playing. Remove both RNG and recipe at the same time.

Atleast then its still rare and limited but you dont leave it to be a reward for only the lucky.

How did map points not get an indicator bar for capture? One of the most requested things by casters, something that is vital to see to really get a sense of how a game could turn, and it gets ignored.

Id like to preface this with Im not asking for free rewards. Leave them as RNG, but if they are going to be RNG atleast give players a chance to get them. Otherwise add a recipe so that we could craft them. Make it take tons of glory and tons of tokens, atleast Im not left out.

Terrible decision for a game trying to get people to come pvp now.

If anyone is familiar with Runescape and the Completionist cape (both regular and trimmed) know that is the “end-game item achievement”. This takes YEARS of grinding and 1 of the items on the checklist takes 5,000 games of a mini-game at 20 minutes each. I agree with Vol. Any Precursor checklist should be long, it should be hard, it should be a grind.

Legendary weapons should be legendary. Pay the cash or do the time for your precursor.

Your last line is highly contradictory. What is at all legendary about forking over cash?

Mr. Johanson is being very careful here, indicating only that they “plan to do it” and “have started designing it”. That’s a far cry from beginnig to write code, which probably means not this year.

On the plus side, precursors from WvW chests should put some downward pressure on the TP. Congrats to everyone who sold at 600+ gold, they likely won’t trend up that high again.

The same way meta chests and Guild Missions did? Yea… about that…

“Some small parts of that comprehensive plan for game reward systems are already rolling out this month with the updates to WvW rank rewards.”

That directly implies they have an overarching design and have begun implementation. If I had to take a guess I would imagine it will come out on the 1 year anniversary of game release.

What needs to happen is that a temporary dungeon is added for these content updates, and when its completed it needs to be added to fractals with its end chest changed.

Fractals has gotten stale with the same set of fractals. It makes it so people who missed events get to replay them while keeping the rewards unique.

Lvl 80s who have done most of what this game had to offer need more things to do besides the 1 day worth of new content to finish achievements every 2 weeks. Old dungeons are old, we need new permanent things.

I know, I know… mix of permanent and temporary content… still waiting for the permanent stuff.

I dunno — I was one of the people complaining about MWF being temporary, too, but right on it’s heels came Southsun and there really isn’t time to regret MWF being gone. If something else comes on the heels of Southsun and something else after that… well, the content is always new new and exciting and there is plenty of stuff to do. Stuff that I haven’t already done. Those other dungeons are part of the static personal story — they remain. These are part of the dynamic living story — we affect the world around us, some things stay, some things go. That is incredibly cool in an MMO.

It took 2 hours to complete the Southsun content moving at a slow and enjoyable pace. Stretch that out to a day maybe, what about the other 13? I could be destroying remaining vacated weapons facilities. Instead Im sitting logged off contemplating if I really want to invest any more time in a game that 9 months later still has some very glaring flaws that has not been addressed at all.
