Asura’s are the nerdy ones, the intelligent ones, the ones that study stuff..
makes sense they know all this threats first and then comes the Norn/Charr/human captains acting kitteny and pay no attention to the warnings offered by said Asura and LA suffer the consecuences..!!and “Wintersday” is also about presents.. what’s a norn gonna give as a present? Lion tooth necklaces? lol
Why couldnt a Sylvari have visioned it. Why couldnt a a Charr/Human/Norn stumble upon one of their shells, or be part of a pirate crew that came from the island. Again, it did not need to be designed around Asura. As for presents, the Norn are also known for their craftmanship, so it is perfectly reasonable for a Norn to craft toys. Nothing says that these gifts have to be technologically advanced.
Except that a Norn couldn’t create a mass manufacturing toy machine. Especially one that would not start creating crazy/evil toys. I’m kinda fine with it being Asura each time, since they are the smartest and loudest race.
I will say this again: Mass manufacturing of toys, Wintersday being about gift giving now, its all design. It did not need to be designed this way. Im sure they could have found a way to incorporate a different story to go along with the holiday. And Im not saying this event can’t be Asura lead, but then why was Halloween and Lost Shore Asura lead? The lack of variety is quite annoying.
http://www.twitch.tv/parisalchuk
Are you guys really that oblivious? It’s clearly a typo and the “today” is meant for the 14th. Nothing related to the Wintersday patch is going in until the 14th. This kind of incapacity for comprehension of things is just astounding. I’m honestly not trying to be rude at all, but obvious things are very obvious.
“You guys are idiots, Im honestly not trying to be rude, but your idiots cause you read a page and expected what it said to be true.” Thats all I got out of that post. To counter your statement, most likely portions of the Wintersday update is already proloaded to help keep the size of the new build as minimal as possible. So its not out of the realm that these items could be in the BLTC before the 14th. Now the fact is the page was advertised to contain information about the event by Arenanet. It would then be ‘obvious’ to assume that the information given is correct. The page states ‘today’ so why is it obvious that they mean the 14th.

I’m not ready to judge the Wintersday event yet as we don’t know THAT much of the backstory.. give it some time huh? Also it is kind of hard to discover a species unseen for a very long time without very advanced technologies
We already know Tixx is the main character that Wintersday revolves around. For this argument, that is all we need to know. As for the unseen comment, see my response above.
http://www.twitch.tv/parisalchuk
For Halloween it said that the Asuran was simply the one assigned to it… Thats mainly Priory. For the Lost Shore; Do the Norn, Humans, or Sylvari seem like they could figure out fluctuations on a reading? They’re too embattled to even care. Yes a Charr might have fit in here but they’ve got their hands full too. now as for Wintersday: Who else can fly around Tyria in that time? Hrmmmm?
This further exemplifies the point that the events are designed around the Asura. The Karka could have been discovered without using fluctuations. Same with Wintersday, why did it have to be a flying ship (which by the way is not purely asuran tech, as described in the story since their ships were combinations of all the race’s tech. The Charr, for example, have their tanks it is not out of question that they could have their own ships.). The event for example could have been a Norn, which fits much more with the theme of winter, going to each of the cities bringing gifts he makes in a workshop.
http://www.twitch.tv/parisalchuk
Am I the only one getting bored/annoyed at the fact that every event in this game is lead by an Asuran? Halloween – Asuran priory member… Lost Shore – Asura leads the way giving warning to LA. Fractals – Asuran. Now Wintersday, an event dominated by cold weather and snow – Asuran toy maker.
Can we get a little variety with the NPCs?
http://www.twitch.tv/parisalchuk
Anet has continuously shown their favoritism to Euro. NA gets Daily resets in prime time, get server maintenance prime time, start of events (especially one time events) occur during business hours… Its quite sad.
http://www.twitch.tv/parisalchuk
I realize they have separate teams.. but maybe they need to reallocate some of their resources (team members) to get some of these bugs fixed. Just my opinion though.
Throwing more people at bugs does not fix them. Coming from a profesional software engineer, trust me, more people is not always better.

So the premise is to salvage top tier items from chests, which gives me slivers, which I then use to make different items of the same tier in the forge?
Like trading several items for a more aesthetically pleasing item?
Basically
http://www.twitch.tv/parisalchuk
I just hit rank 20, and can now access the Dolyak rewards. What is the best way to go about getting arcane slivers to obtain the tier three set?
Do I buy a bunch of chests (do I get copper, silver, or gold?)?
Or do I have to make items in the forge, salvage those, and then make new items from them to get the slivers?
I’m confused about how this works.
Sliver tier items will give you slivers, so making things in the forge to salvage is not a good idea. Gold gives you the best odds for top tiered items, but obviously cost the most. Find what you feel comfortable with doing. Personally I like using silver chests, though slivers are hard to come by.
http://www.twitch.tv/parisalchuk
Adding PvE rewards will not grab ‘farmers’ who will only farm min/max locations. So long as dungeons/events/fractals gives better rewards they are not going to come into PvP. Its one thing I liked in GW1. I could have fun playing Fort Aspenwood all day and still be able to get XP and some money since I could convert my faction into money (zkeys).
http://www.twitch.tv/parisalchuk
All of us who were expecting the live stream to happen. Well, it’s been cancelled. I think, I’m sorry to say, I am not surprised.
And by canceled you mean the stream broke so it can’t be shown live, but an upload is coming supposedly tonight or tomorrow.
http://www.twitch.tv/parisalchuk
FINALLY got my Hunter. However, I’m quite disappointed because it clips into the ground when in fighting stance. I’m also bummed that the legendary is simply out of my reach, ha ha!
But seriously. Now that I have my precursor, I realize they are the least of problems when attempting a legendary. Seriously. Check out the mats!
But if your someone like me who is closing in on finishing all the other gifts (80%, just a few more lodestones and runestones to go) then precursor is all you care about.

Necrid, while its true they have other bugs to attend to, connection bugs SHOULD be on the top of their list. This is why I am so very unhappy with how this is being handled. Its mid day PST and we are still waiting for a reply for what should be one of their highest priority bugs.
http://www.twitch.tv/parisalchuk
Sad fact is you cannot have events dictate effects on the world. Because there are different instances of the server which can all reach different outcomes. So there cannot be a side effect of our actions that is not already laid out.
http://www.twitch.tv/parisalchuk
This is why most MMO’s do 1 boring content update every 6 months. When they try to do something fun and exciting a small group of people just have to go and ruin it for everyone.
They announced this event 3 weeks in advance. They sent out emails, forum posts, facebook posts, twitter updates, etc.
If you didn’t attend the event it is your own fault not Anet’s. If it really meant that much to you then you would have planned it into your schedule. 3 weeks is more then enough time notice to plan these things. Most important events in real life don’t even get 3 weeks notice.
Yes the end chest got good items. You know why? Because you same people who come and complain about everything spent the last 3 weeks since Halloween talking about how the event rewards suck and you got nothing worthwhile. Well guess what, Anet listened to you and gave good rewards to everyone, now you are complaining that the rewards were too good and you want other people to have crappy rewards and only YOU want the good reward.
Finally, there is no possible way to give EVERYONE the same good reward. You know why? Because if everyone got 2 named exotic weapons those weapons would be completely useless, they wouldn’t even sell for the amount they salvaged for precisely because EVERYONE would have one. The ONLY way to make something valuable is by making it a rare drop that only a few people get, that’s how the market works. Heck even if they straight up gave everyone 100g in the chest, that wouldn’t make anyone any richer, it would just increase the price of everything on the market. What you people are proposing as “solutions” would destroy the economy, make everyone have a crappy reward and you’d all come right back here to complain some more.

Happy customer here!
Im glad you dont work a job on Sunday’s and live in a timezone that was applicable for playing. Quite a shame many cannot be as lucky as you…
They clearly told everyone when this was taking place. If you couldn’t make it for the event it’s not their fault.
Your right, its not their fault that people live in other countries or have working commitments that keep them from playing. That doesnt mean they have to schedule events in such a way that these people cannot participate. 3 weeks notice isnt going to change that people live on the opposite side of the world. 1 time instanced events (just like story) available for a limited but extended time do fix that though.

(edited by Parisalchuk.9230)
I’m disappointed in their “if you snooze, you lose” mentality and approach to these. It’s not right that dedicated players get snubbed because their world doesn’t revolve around Guild Wars.
Even those whose lives do revolve around GW get hurt if their timezone is wrong. This approach is quite simply wrong.
http://www.twitch.tv/parisalchuk
We feel that everyone should have the ability to contribute no matter what time of the day it is. How we’ve came to this conclusion is that no player’s time is more valuable than another. Everyone has different off peak hours for whatever reason. Players should not be punished or unable to experience and view the same content as everyone else because they play at a different time. They too are paying customers.
The above quote was taken from the WvW forums regarding “Night Capping” by Matt Witter (Game Designer, ANet). Please apply the same logic to World Events, especially if you’re giving out drops like legendary precursors. Please stop the “one-time” events tied to a specific time of day. There are lots of suggestions on this forum about how to get around it. Implement phasing on a character/account basis, let it run repeatedly for a week or a month, etc. The rest of us might not be playing during peak concurrency hours, but we’re paying customers too.
Thank you.

Or the people disagreeing know what an MMO is meant and designed to be. Maybe, just maybe… the idiots are the people trying to bend and twist an MMO to be something its not.
How an MMO is supposed to be?! An MMO is a game that is ment to be enjoyed by everyone who payed to play, not some real life simulator like you keep wishing it were. If that were the case a single wound could kill, once you died the game is over and you only get one character. So please take your own advice, stop being an idiot that is trying to bend and twist an MMO to be something its not…
http://www.twitch.tv/parisalchuk
And precursor prices are rising again..
Sadly I got none. And I’m upset I didn’t get The Hunter after getting frustrated and throwing all my savings in the Mystic Forge again..
Anyone have tips? Is Fractals a reliable means of money?
Fractals gives you drops. Im not quite to lvl 10 but so far running normal dungeons or cursed shore still gives you much more money.
Best bet is to wait for this new scavenger hunt and hope its actually something reasonable and not just more RNG.
http://www.twitch.tv/parisalchuk
I think one-time events are an awesome idea – they should just last for longer. I would say a week at a minimum, and the “Phases” like the Investigation stuff should be phased or instanced like the personal story is and not be only on certain days.
Having the large group events is fantastic but I think the non-group events like the Investigation should really be up to the player to do on their own time.
Thats all really, just stretch the event out for a few more days.
So do exactly what they are doing, but make the in between parts longer? That solves nothing.

I was so disappointed at this event.
Why should I have to wake up at Monday 5:00 AM?
I let it off at Halloween, it was just fun movie. but this was not.
It is the same as nightcap of WvW.You dont HAVE too. Its optional. Just like I didnt HAVE to book off work. Stop crying for no reason.
You got a 20 slot bag that cannot be attained any other way. That is reason enough to complain.
the point of things like this are a way of introducing content, would you prefer they just released the content like POOF there it is.
personally as a long time MMO player i love the immersion that is given by the opening events for add-ons and expansions.
it gives a reason and story about the new content, pick one:
POOF “heres the big evil enemy that’s never actually done anything!”
or
“here’s the big evil enemy that invaded our homeland, fight back!”
Why does the fighting back have to be a single world event? Why cant waves of enemies attack over the course of a period of time. Seemed to work for all those DEs out there with attacking Risen.
http://www.twitch.tv/parisalchuk
I hope they DONT get rid of 1 times events. This an an MMO people, a LIVING and BREATHING world… things will move forward as you are not there…. people started playing MMO’s way back when for THIS type of gameplay. Dont like it? There is the freaking door to RTS/Shooter/RPG/etc…
Its a real living breathing world? Geez, those BL Traders sure can stand in one spot a long time without moving….
This argument fails quite quickly when you consider for some people, there is this dragon Zhiatan alive, and for others he is already dead, yet we are all living in the same time and place. Explain that please.
http://www.twitch.tv/parisalchuk
i disagree. i think it’s exactly those one time events that you will remember, it’ll be the stuff that you’ll look back and say “i was there”. making it just standard content defeats that.
as for the people complaining about the rewards being too good, no. just no. rewards have been sucky in GW2 forever now, this is the first time we got a big, sactisfactory reward. it’s not that big of an advantage (how will a couple extra gold suddenly make my character better than you?), it’s just rewarding players for all their effort throughout the weekend, with unique items as well as some quality “standard” rewards.
Honestly killing the Ancient Karka was boring (reinforcement parts take forever… more HP != more fun) and Mad Kings 1 time event was a cinematic that was over hyped. What I will remember in this game is playing with my friends, not the events.
GW1 had ‘one time’ events which lasted a day, and even those are not my fond memories of GW1. Community interaction is far more lasting than an event where the community is segregated based on play availability. Im more likely to remember Karka for being highly bugged (enemy culling anyone) and the end chest disconnection issues then any ‘fun’ I had.
yes, the reinforcements segments were annoying, especially because the lag spiked during them, but i found that, aside from that part, the entire thing was really, really cool (especially once the lag was gone).
and i don’t know about you, but i was playing the event with friends. sure “i remember playing with friends” is fine, but that doesn’t mention any specific memory. “there was this one time where we filled this giant crab’s nest with bombs and then had to push it back inside it with mortars and rockslides and geysers, and then we broke the ground under the nest so it would fall on lava” is a much more specific memory, and makes for an awesome story.
and if you consider all the changes you made to the island as you progressed, it makes for an even better story. “that bridge? i helped build it. that giant dead crab on the lava? oh, i killed it”.
I vividly remember defeating the Lich with my friends because it was the end of the first game. I vividly remember getting my Luxon 15k armor set while playing the economy of GW1 at my friends house over one night. I vividly remember learning to farm Gates of Kryta, my first ever farming location….
Some of those relate to events (though all events were repeatable), others dont, but none of them are specific to a single one time only event. Thats the point, you dont need 1 time ‘epic’ events to make memories in a game, and if you need 1 time events to make lasting memories that is quite sad.
I like the idea of one-time events, as they make the world feel alive and give it some cool lore, but that is ALL they should do. maybe a unique skin but that is it. And yeah, they should run a whole day as there are many international players, and players who can’t play at one specific time. That should also help with the lag.
Over all though, I say kudos to Anet for doing this at all. Not to mention remember ppl, they are trying new things, seeing where they can take the genre: you can’t expect them to get it perfect on their first try. I’m happy they have the courage to try these things. Keep at it Anet! I’m sure it’ll be even better next time!
Halloween was their first try. People didnt like it then, why would they like it now? In fact it got worse from Halloween, at least that event was purely a cinematic that had no chance of giving other players unfair advantages due to their availability (like this end chest did).
http://www.twitch.tv/parisalchuk
This math is so bad. You cannot use the amount of sell items on the TP as many people are going to keep theirs to use or keep them waiting for the prices to rise. You also have NO idea how many people opened the chest. You cant even estimate it. My overflow started full, by the time we finished half had already left due to the time requirement and lack of enjoyment or any other reason. You also dont know how many people started the event to begin with or how many logged in that day.
The chest DID have higher precursor drop rate than other chests because it gave out only exotics (similar to forge but FREE of charge). So please, take your bad math and bad projections elsewhere.
http://www.twitch.tv/parisalchuk

We always skip the swamp. The fact the tree wall changes during the run of the event makes completing depending on less on skill and luck of the draw. The trap reset is also way too fast.
So much in this game is ‘luck’ based its disgusting.
http://www.twitch.tv/parisalchuk
I didn’t get a reward, and even I am not freaking out.
People, seriously. It’s a game. A game that is 3 months old.
ANet is still trying to figure out the best way to do these things. Settle down.
Using 3 months old as an escuse for bugs… sure, you could make an argument for that. 3 months old as an excuse for poorly designed mechanics that were implemented after release, sorry, that doesnt cut it. They already received backlash during Halloween for their one time events, and instead of addressing their player base’s concerns, they instead added 2 more one time events.
Arena Net is over 12 years old. Their decision processes and ability to modify their decisions based on their player base should be better, but instead they are slow to respond and slower to change (Look at precursors, long ago they addressed it was an issue then when silent until last week).
http://www.twitch.tv/parisalchuk
Also if a “one time event” lasted all day, then it wouldn’t really be considered “one time” if it’s being repeated throughout the day.
This has no bearing though. They dont need to be “one time” to begin with.
Its a promise they cannot fulfill really, just like we will never make a lasting change on the world based on an event we complete. Why? Because there are multiple servers and multiple overflows all that could have varied outcomes, which do you choose to be the outcome that will last?
http://www.twitch.tv/parisalchuk
Hello everyone.
Just a quick reminder: try to stay on topic and avoid personal battles or off-topic posting as this does not bring anything meaningful to the other people writing in it.
Thanks!
I’m so fed up of coming to posts hoping to find that a member of staff has somehow responded positively to this quite frankly very important topic, only to have it be the same thing every single time; “Just a quick reminder”. Seriously, you’ve clearly been reading this, don’t you have anything else to say?
That response is the kiss of death. Once its posted no Dev ever post in the thread. Its basically a big “We Dont Want To Answer To The Players” sign, and sadly comes up in most important threads.
Making it one time just makes it feel more epic and alot cooler. I thoroughly enjoyed it. To those that didn’t get to do it, that sucks but I see no reason to get upset about it. Sometimes you just can’t get everything you want. Once you realize that, everything is much more enjoyable!
We may not get what we want, but I would like to get what I payed for. Weeks after launch they set their standard with “everyone is equally important” and starting at Halloween they broke their standard. I payed money for this game on the promise, among other things, of continued content. And now because of whatever real life constrictions a person may face they get to break that promise?
Make these ‘events’ either cinematics like Mad King, make them instanced so people can only complete it once, or make it repeating with the reward only being available once.

I dont understand why they implemented it this way. My dungeon team is destroyed since 4 members were on 1 server and 1 on a different. Normal dungeons this works fine, but no, not Fractals…

Precursors have been dropping like mad today with that Ancient Karka special event chest.
You can see the prices of the precursors tumbling big time on the TP!
It will only be temporary though. The chest is not persistant.

This is a known issue. I’m going to follow up and see what progress we’ve made.
Someone needs to be held accountable for these disconnect errors. I have been virtually unable to do anything in this game because of the frequent disconnects. earlier today I got DCed after completing the Maw in FotM but because I didnt collect the chest and return I didnt get credit for finishing the level.
I work as a software engineer, if I caused issues that would cause our client base to be unable to consistently connect I would have lost my job by now. Its been 10 days. We didnt have these kind of quality issues in GW1, why are we getting them now?
http://www.twitch.tv/parisalchuk
This is horrible then. Not only was I ‘gifted’ 2 bags of gold resulting in a lovely 3 silver total, now I wont get another chance at getting fractals until lvl 10 difficulty?
Its starting to sound more and more like Im never coming back to Fractals. Horrible rewards for semi-fun content.
http://www.twitch.tv/parisalchuk
Who needs to salvage, you can farm points if you have access to EotN. Just transmute over and over and over and over.
http://www.twitch.tv/parisalchuk
People, from the picture of Ascended items you do not get some magical 100 times better stat items. Not to mention there are only accessories and back slots. The numbers you see on the items have an upgrade already included because you cant upgrade them, only add infusion.
But please, continue to whine and complain about something not released yet.
http://www.twitch.tv/parisalchuk
Lol, yes because getting 1000 tokens from something like Arah would be so easy…. Notice how I didnt put any quantities for any of those. They could set it to 1000 needed skill points, 1000 tokens for each dungeon, some supre high amount of glory.
You make it sound like farming gold is oh so much harder when it is just as easy. Also, the majority of players are NOT chasing legendaries which is directly contradictory to a major part of your opinion. Precursors are not ment to be a gold sink because only a small percentage of users will actively try to get these items. Not to mention, please tell me how RNG is ‘Legendary’ at all. Its not, its RANDOM. Atleast my method gives you a way to show that as a player you are ‘legendary’ because you have done such a wider range of game aspects.
Fact is, if the ‘quick’ way is to use the Mystic Forge people are going to keep doing it and the price of these precursors are not going to change. Since my suggestion uses 0% of the TP no prices are effected.
Those arent realistic values at all. If this was added the forums would be 10x as full of complaints as it already is and you know it.
Aside from WvW and sPvP, most players are either waiting on new content or working on legendaries after they hit 80. I think you underestimate the number of people working on it, why do you think theres so many people farming Orr? And this number will only grow as more people hit 80.
And in my opinion you’re wrong about it not affecting the TP but Ive already explained why that would happen. Its obvious that we disagree with eachother so I guess we’ll just have to see what happens.
When I farm cursed shore and talk to the people there, most are just massing money and waiting for content. Maybe 5% of my servers Cursed Shore farming base are actively chasing a legendary. And the majority of the player base of this game are not the ones in Cursed Shore, instead that is just the most dense populated space.
About 1000 tokens being unreasonable, it really isnt. Considering it takes over 500 tokens for an armor set and you can get 180 if one was dedicated enough it would not take long. But that is also the point, a crafted way needs to exceed the ‘ease’ of using the Mystic Forge, otherwise I agree everyone will take the single path and the market would crash.
On the TP, yes we both disagree, and have laid out our opinions, no need to bicker. I respect that completely.
http://www.twitch.tv/parisalchuk
Sure I understand. The only response we have ever gotten was that they are monitoring prices and will adjust accordingly. Like many important topics on these forums the Devs remain invisible.
http://www.twitch.tv/parisalchuk
I figured it would be more noticeable than having the question lost in a sea of complains on the stickied thread.
More noticeable than the thread called, “November 15th Massive Update: Precursors Addressed?”
In a sea of complains on the stickied thread
Just repeating that again.
And that thread you mention, also a sea of complains there too.
There are a sea of complaints always following this topic. Those with precursors dont want their ‘accomplishment’ diminished, some people want hand outs, and others want a way to track progress that is not another RNG grind (since we already have clovers). Regardless of if people want change or not, to begin with it was a terrible system, and by designing it this way the have polarized the majority of those people chasing the weapons.

Hipp, the sad fact is a lot of people did achieve their legendaries from illegal activity. Not saying all, I know a few people who got theirs from help from friends or purely luck, but I also know more people on my server who have gotten them from ‘frowned’ upon methods.

You guys with the suggestions of making it acquired through a test really dont understand human perseverence. When you put a final reward (a precursor) at the end of a chain of events, Most people WILL do those events until they get that item.
I GUARANTEE someone will have it done in a week no matter how hard Anet makes the quest. Then come the guides on the internet, people would be farming the quest, and then everyone would have a precursor in a matter of a few months. With the RNG aspect added in to the legendary quest, it makes people weigh in just how much theyre willing to risk to get that legendary, and like in most cases in life, people dont want to risk time and money on things that arent likely to happen. Thats perfectly fine, they can save up for one on the TP or not get a legendary since its not required to play the game.
The current system is alright as it is. The economy would be ruined if not for the bittersweet existence of the Mystic Black Hole.
You mean the same way some people grind a real long week in Cursed Shore/TP to make money to buy the precursor. Or dump a credit card at it and get it right now? I also dont get why people are not allowed to get legendary items if they want them? Should they be hard, sure. Should they rely purely on a RNG for 25% of the final product. No. Clovers were a nice addition that forces you to use the forge and play the RNG game. The precursor should not be part of that.
I made the suggestion in the threat that is up top, but Ill put it here to get more exposer since a lot of people against changing it often site no tangible suggestions from those that complain.
Make a ‘Precursor Token’ that is account bound and craftable by combining these things:
1) A dungeon gift which is created by using X amount of tokens from each of the dungeons. This forces a player to show ‘skill’ by playing every dungeon.
2) Another item based on skill points. Either make it another bloodstone shard, X amount of crystals or X amount of stones. This shows you have dedication to play but does not restrict location like farming for max profits does.
3) A token that you receive for finishing the story line. This is good because it gives reason to beat story line (like Pact token).
4) An item that is purchased with some amount of PvP glory. For an item that requires you WvW and not even venture into PvP seems weird to me. In addition you get a good amount of glory for even losing, so this would not be overly difficult to get.
All 4 of these are items that cannot be purchased from the TP, and by keeping the old method of acquiring precursors, those that started to go down that path are not hurt and no markets are hurt. People generally argue that we that want a different method want it easy. This is just not true, we want progression that is guaranteed, not another RNG game.

1000 hours is 12.5 hours a day. That is not healthy. That is more than a full time job. Even as a young kid in school thats way to much…

I dont see how a do tasks to receive an item based system for an account bound item destroy the economy. Make a system where no items in the ‘recipe’ version can be purchased from the TP. As long as the method is ‘harder’ than RNG (lots of dungeons/other content) those people that want the easier route will continue to only farm gold or try the RNG method while the rest of us who likely would not purchase the precursor from the TP to begin with get out own method to get it, but since its account bound we cant flood the market.
If I were to put out my own suggestion it would be making a recipe which requires dungeon tokens from all dungeons (quantity unknown, that would be up to Anet to decide ‘difficulty’ but makes people play all dungeons) in addition to a quantity of skill points (which provides the ‘time’ grind showing ‘skill’). Add a token for finishing story line which proves you are worthy (in game wise… since right now all that legendary means is willing to grind) and the final item would be something you trade for with glory.
I think you make it take that amount of work, but spread the requirements to dungeons, storyline and pvp you will get happier people. It makes it so players dont have to either know how to play the TP to get money, grind Cursed Shore for cash or get extremely lucky from RNG. And by creating an item that cannot be sold on the TP and requires no items from the TP you keep the economy intact.
Edit: I should clarify, you trade the 4 items (Dungeon tokens ‘gift’, skill points item, token for beating the story line, and item traded for with glory) for an item similar to the mystic forge stones. The item will then be used in place of a precursor and would be defined based on what gift (ie Gift of Twilight) you are using.

Zoom your view to 1 month.
Next time, please look at a chart before you talk. No, I never proclaimed Dusk to be stable in price, or precursors period, but just looking at it now, it is actually massively more stable than many other items.
For something in such high demand with low supply, I’m in awe of how the price stayed as steady as it has.
2 Precursors that have been wildly less stable over the last month, and are much better examples, are Chaos Gun and Energizer. But because neither one is dusk no one noticed and no one cares amirite?
From its last price jump (October 12), the average for Dusk sell has been around 375g.
Even taking the recent spike to 430 as an absolute indication of value fluctuation (irresponsible, but for argument’s sake), the variance is 55 gold from the mean ‘stable’ value, or in other words 14% variance in the positive direction.
The low mark of 310 sets it at 17% in the negative direction, since 10/12.This is INCREDIBLY low variance, for a time span (almost a month) that is a little less than half the total time the game has been out (2 months and change)
For your enjoyment, here are some other common items, and their peak fluctuation ranges since 10/12. Selected at random:

Platinum Ore: 23c -> 44c peak, or 91% increase.

Vial of Thick Blood: 40c -> 65c peak, or 62.5% increase 40c -> 20c low, or 50% decrease.

Omnomberry: I’m not even sure what happened on the 24th.I’m incredibly glad you guys enjoy taking sound bites and trying to turn them into points of argument. Parisalchuk, that IS in fact what politicians like to do.
The reason I continue to put the work in to break apart and look more closely at people’s claims is exactly this. You need facts to back up what you are saying. I expect dusk to be instable/increase in price moving forward, given the market demand relative to supply. However for one reason or another, it seems to be rather stable. My best guess is that the ticket price simply prices out the majority of the market for it. Price spikes will follow when individual wealth catches up with price, so it wouldn’t surprise me in the least. This is the nature of inflation in games, and will happen to most if not all sought after items that are in short supply. This “problem”, if you regard it to be one, is not isolated to precursors.
Frankly, I think if ANet regards the price as a problem, the fix is as simple as improving the particle effects on all the legendaries that aren’t Greatswords, or equalizing the importance of underwater combat (an underwater equivalent of Plinx will be all it takes). I really enjoy it when people say “precursor” but they really mean “dusk”.
Did you know the cheapest precursor is about 12g? A great many are still available under 100g.
Your numbers are only persuasive if you look at the numbers relatively. But when it comes to the actual amount of money there are probably no greater fluctuations than those of Dusk. A change from 380g to 430g is 50g which is huge. Even when you look at items like platinum in bulk you don’t get those kind of numbers soon. A person would have to buy 23809 platinum ores at 44 copper in order to suffer the same gold loss from the price increase as if he were buying Dusk. That’s why it’s a lot more normal for cheaper items to have greater fluctuations. Comparing examples like platinum ore and Dusk is completely ridiculus.
I doubt anyone here who’s trying to buy Dusk will be comforted by the fact that they’ll only have to pay a 14% variance increase when that variance translates into 50 gold.
And yes, not every precursor is as problematic as Dusk and I’m sorry that we keep saying "precursors"instead of “those particular precursors that are extremely expensive and are rising in price”. It’s semantics but it doesn’t change anything. Even if there’s a problem with only one precursor it’s still a problem and it should be resolved.
I like this guy and support what he says!
(Edit: Since you insinuated I was acting like a politician a few responses back I will respond in kind)
My name is Parisalchuk, and I support this message.

They have said all they need to about precursors at this point, which is that they are watching prices and will make changes if they see fit. Since prices haven’t changed all that much since that statement, I’m not sure what you’re expecting from them now.
Being active in the forum community isn’t the same as replying to each and every one of the dozens of new threads started by people complaining about how gosh-darned expensive precursors are.
Dusk jumped 100 gold last night… yea that sounds like prices havent changed at all…
http://www.twitch.tv/parisalchuk
All things equal a precursor is a crafted item, if you put enough supply in you WILL get one out. Now it comes down to average cost to do that +/- a relative cost of risk. Now if it truely costs 300 gold worth of exotics to put into the forge to get a precursor out, then people are not going to pay 600 gold for that precursor just because there is little supply and high demand. Instead people are gonna take that money saved, buy exotics and make it themselves.
Your whole point of inflation makes no sense when you consider that while the price of supply is relatively constant and the price of the product increases. Instead people are now coming to realize it takes more attempts thus costing them more money, and thus the sell price rises. This is independent of the fact that players wealth is increasing. Inflation only works on items that a person cannot produce for themselves. So unless the price of cheap exotics inflates (which it currently has not done yet since their demand is matched by their supply) the price of precursors should not being going up.
This is all truely unrelated to the point that legendaries are supposed to be items which show your skill and dedication to their game, something RNG does not prove. Being able to farm wealth (something that, while they claim to support, they actively try to stop) does not show skill or dedication, especially when the best way to make money outside of the market is through Cursed Shore Farming… which means you have a lvl 80 character and can do any AOE damage to tag a mob.
I dont know where the misconception is that people who want a recipe want it to be cheap. Make the recipe cost 100 gold to learn. Make it take ridiculous items. Then you can track progress. RNG does not allow that.

I just want to know if they are gonna do something let us know. If they are thinking about doing something let us know. If they arent going to do something let us know so we can get on with our lives….
Anet promoted that they were gonna be active with the community on these forums. The only threads which get any attention are posts on the main board that are along the lines of: “Yay I love guild wars. Thanks!” or “Awesome game, so glad I bought it!”
They also respond to some bug posts aswell. Ill give them some credit there… but seeing as they are split by teams, why isnt anyone covering this section more?
