Gw2 is a masterpiece at it’s foundation. Content-wise however…
Gameplay Explanation
Pretty much.
Which do you think is some of the hardest professions to play or master in PvP combat?
Perhaps there’s some specific build you have in mind?
Discuss…
Life itself is a game. It’s all meaningless and GW2 is as important (or as unimportant) as life itself. At least that’s my opinion.
I didn’t get your point. Are you saying that I shouldn’t use video games to fulfill my illusion of progression? If so, what is your reasoning? Do we really want to turn this into a philosophical discussion?[/quote]
Haha, good point! I agree.
I think that MMOs in general are designed quite heavily around player progression. At least for me, that’s where a big part of the fun comes from.
It’s not meaningless per say: I like what I’ve built my characters to.
It would be a great idea if it included a switch for this feature: If I want to teleport to a specific point, it might be a wasted cooldown if it doesn’t take me far enough.
No switch = No go, imo.
Really? No discussion on this one? =P
edit: How can it be so much more attractive to talk (ramble) about subjectively negative things about the game, rather than a thread as well written as this one?
Perhaps there’s just not all that much to add to it? It has already received quite a lot of upvotes, but there’s still just 2 people posting on this thread.
(edited by Phadde.7362)
8v8 is just chaotic and so tightly packed.
Courtyard would definitely be a great small arena type TDM.
TDM should never make it to Tpvp but should still have player progression.
“… would definitely be a great small arena type TDM.”
Isn’t it already? Do you mean that the game mode should be tweaked to become a “great small arena type TDM”?
I’d like to join the guild, if I may.
I’m quite experienced with the game, and absolutely willing to learn others.
I haven’t done any Fractals above 34, but I would like to; Especially with a friendly instructor.
Anyways, I play on EU, Seafarer’s Rest.
PASSS tried. I’m not sure how they’re doing.
Really? Are they on EU?
This thread would be a lot shorter if everyone who has their preference of how to run a dungeon does this:
Make own lfg: “Path(x) No skipping”
On the contrary (as in, it would be shorter if people didn’t keep repeating that solution =) ).
Have you ever tried this method yourself? It’s really a very poor and frustrating solution.
Maybe because it’s a waste of time and most people generally don’t want to waste time?
Let’s face it, you’re in the minority…..
….
The only thing you can do is to a.) make your own group and pray to the good heavens it fills fast, b.) ANet redesign the dungeon so it’ll be worthwhile to kill trashes, c.) ANet implement a rule to make players wipe out all trashes or face ban – which is a bad policy IMO or d.) accept your fate, which I don’t think you would.
Jup, I’ve noticed =)
e) Join/create a guild with like-minded people! I think that’s the best alternative.
Chest, leg, and boot are used. You’re fine without a helmet, shoulders, or gloves.
Good! So you don’t become any stronger from wearing the latter items.
I think this is a good idea; It gives progression to new players and I think that will nurture the game. I know I’ll enjoy it.
If anyone’s upset about this, I personally believe that you probably will change your mind when you’re used to this change =)
Well spoken! I find it rare to find someone that can express the good and bad in such a fair manner.
I fully agree with everything! I think most players do!
I sincerely hope that this reaches Arena Net’s attention. Probably more so than any thread I’ve seen over the last few months! =)
+1 +1 +1 +1 +1…..
Nope! Only with the ability to ridicule a game that, 2 years in, still hasn’t put up basic pvp infrastructure and multiple pvp modes, yet ‘aspired’ for espawts before it was even released!
That will definitely suffice!
… And I’d like to utilize that ability =P
No offense but if your unhappy take a break from the game. When you buy a bad game for your Xbox or Playstation do you keep playing it? NO! You move on to a new game or take a break. MMO’s especially I think its very healthy to take a break when the game is effecting you. Complaining and writing posts about how stuff sucks especially without any constructive feedback is just damaging to the community. Its great to read posts that have feedback and good suggestions for solving the issues and then engaging others to talk about it with a constructive and open mind. Problem is we don’t do that here on the forums very often. Mainly all I read is how I hate this and remove this. All is not vain and if you feel it is “take a break”
Well though! I agree =)
When this map is played 2×2 or 3×3 it is truly a great new “mode”. When it is played 5×5 8×8 or 10×10 it is only missing some door banging and npc guards, then it would be pure wvw aoe spam.
^
Think ANet should start making Courtyard servers for 2v2 or 3v3. Without respawns. Last team standing. (Best of 3 perhaps)
Basically because I’d like that concept tried out and then launched with it’s own ranked queue =)
im not saying using mortar in 1 vs 1 combat …..
Oh, I didn’t mean that =)
But a guild with your mindset is not a solution? Why just his?
What?
I’m quite actively looking for a guild like this =)
Another thing. New arena style map.
First really different map, it works fine…it should be competitive with a ranked que (even if no leaderboards are put in atm). Make it 2 and 3 player team ques. Bam solved the issue for players with only 2-3 people teams who want to be competitive. It is arena so, its all centered around team fights, you can have a lot more versatile builds…careful of 5v5 it will become AE spam fest…but suppose you could have that too.i would absolutely love 3 vs 3 or 2 vs 2 arena. That wasnt some custom arena locked thing. That map with a queue and ticket system (for respawns) could be epic.
This fairly much sums up by biggest wishes for the game =)
I don’t think it is ‘Conquest’ which is destroying sPvP – I have never heard anyone go ‘I hate Conquest’ ever in my 4900+ Solo/Team Arena games and we know if people actually dislike something then they will complain about it constantly like Skyhammer or Decap Engi. I still think more game modes may help though.
If ArenaNet want a competitive environment then it is all about “Leaderboards/Ladders” and we don’t really have that. ArenaNet also need to start rewarding the active players better instead of the inactive.
Conquest isn’t “destroying PvP”, the absence of alternatives is, I think.
It feels uninteresting to me, and actually playing sPvP feels very repetitive!
The fact that the gameplay in Conquest isn’t really my cup of tea (no matter how much I like PvP in MMOs) doesn’t help either.
(Courtyard in a more structured setting is by far the most fun I’ve had in GW2 though)
This thread would be a lot shorter if everyone who has their preference of how to run a dungeon does this:
Make own lfg: “Path(x) No skipping”
On the contrary (as in, it would be shorter if people didn’t keep repeating that solution =) ).

robertul, it is players like you that make me cringe. To those that suggested making my own group do you really believe I would be posting here had I not gotten fed up of making group after group only to have them fall apart because some dink decided that skipping is the only way they can play? I can maybe MAYBE get one or two group a month that wont skip, and it usually involves noobs.
Agreed!
The LFG Party Description solution is not a very good one at all.
A guild with your mindset is probably the best solution. =)
i just speaking the truth ….. i know some engineer players was able to beat thief and mes …. but it’s ONCE a blue moon
it’s not like 50 – 50 percent chance ….
Might want to check your facts on that one.
I have never used the mortar. Ever.
If it was a kit, does that still mean that you’d become stationary when using it?
Ah, kitten it! I thought I’d finally see a sincerely positive post on this forum.
… I think the map is awesome.
I’ve suggested before that perhaps Fractal instabilities could be added to dungeons, in effect creating a “Hard Mode” for dungeons. Instabilities are categorised into “Easy”, “Medium” and “Hard”, and you pick which difficulty you want before starting the dungeon. The instabilities are then applied randomly as you go through the dungeon (to prevent people from just re-rolling at the start to get “good” instabilities).
Rewards at the end of the dungeon are boosted by 20%/50%/100% for completing it with the various instabilities.
This^
I think that they should use the assets that already exists in the game in form of (easy) dungeons
-The lack of added permanent playable content.
….
-The lack of challenging content (Don’t say fractal is hard lol)
Agree with these ones a lot!
Doom, doom, doom, doom…
….. this constant “Fix the game, it’s unplayable” thing is very overblown…
Going to sleep.
And this!
Why conquest is so good and where many other formats fall short is that conquest doesn’t require you to win a specific fight. There’s a strategic level of setting up fights at multiple locations to give your team an advantage. You aren’t forced to engage in a full team vs team battle and aren’t required to consistently win it, as long as you can win elsewhere. The secondary mechanics are intended to aid in that.
Anything with a reinforcement/respawn counter is problematic in an MMORPG. Unlike most FPS games where everyone is the same or mostly the same, some classes in MMOs have a higher mortality rate than others. They may be squishier for a reason, or just not have ways to run away. It hurts “fight until you win or die” classes.
Yet, a game mode that actually fully embraces the concept of besting other players in head-on combat is extremely appealing to me, and I’m sure to many more as well!
I really love a challenge and I really love MMO PvP, but I can not find enough enjoyment in Conquest to keep me into sPvP. When I played Courtyard, I realized what I’ve missed, which was what I described above.
Some love Dark Souls, some love Starcraft.
Yet, the Arena game mode from WoW was the most appreciated game mode whilst I was playing the game, and there was a significant difference in skill.
This is not meant as a perfect example; the classes where actually atrociously balanced within a rock-paper-scissors approach AND the combat was based on the Holy trinity.
The thing that I want to put forward is that it still was very skillbased (assuming you had the gear, hurrhurr) AND it was fairly clear to me that it was widely considered to be most enjoyable to play 2v2 entirely without healers (the Holy trinity didn’t really allow it with greater teamsizes) which I find fairly remarkable since it was (unlike GW2) a game of the Holy Trinity.
I don’t see how GW2 wouldn’t be able to do this much better.
I don’t see the allure of team deathmatch or any variation of it (respawns or not), other than it’s simplistic. But that also makes it shallow and boring. TDM leads to build or group comp often determining the winner, with the battles revolving around the damage dealers constantly chasing around a player to force them to play defensive. To prevent that, conquest with respawns allows grouping and splitting to overcome that group comp disadvantage in a large team fight.
(I.e. 3v3 Annihilation:)
I wouldn’t call ones ability to interact and consider your teams total of ~70 skills + Traits while at the same time identify the build of the opposing team and interact, consider and respond with their teams total of ~70 skills + Traits as “shallow and boring”.
Surely, you could have a similar situation in Conquest. But I generally find that it’s more of a matter to outnumber the others or fight ‘til reinforcements arrive, except for the occational teamfights and one on one. (In my own, relatively limited experience though.) “Duels” in Conquest are rarely fair and quite often ends up with someone simply disengaging from the fight. (which you could do in Courtyard, but there isn’t very long to run and it’s quite likely that there are 3 people ready to catch you.)
The thing is that in a game mode that focuses entirely on combat, where your ability as a team to defeat the other team is all that’s put weight on, I think that the combat will become rather much more complex, in practice.
I’m actually considering to make a guild that is focuses on doing dungeons in more “interesting” fashion, like all must have summons, all must wear cleric gear, etc.. Of course no skiping even the trash mobs, all sorts of things.
DO IT! I’ll join Asap! =)
OMG! Are you THE dancingmonkey?! The #5286th ranked engi in NA and world’s last rank 80?!
It’s an honor!
Haha, good one! =)
…I don’t know if you’r being serious, but stop trying to brag every time you post. Being rank 80, especially after the last patch, doesn’t make you the best Engineer. Not by a mile. I don’t think anyone cares a lot about it, either.
I second this.
Oh, come off it! I think it’s charming!
Don’t break the spirit. =)
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Elixir
Elixir Gun skill type: Weapon Kit
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Elixir_Gun
Super Elixir (#5. Also Acid Bomb) skill type: Elixir
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Super_Elixir
Elixir B skill type: Elixir
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Elixir_B
In the tooltip, the #4 & #5 skill on the Elixir gun is actually listed as an Elixir, just like the other, stand alone Elixirs.
This is listed as a bug on the wiki: “Bug:
Although Acid Bomb, Super Elixir, and Healing Mist are categorized as Elixir skills in-game, they do not benefit from Elixir traits.”
No it is a kit. One of those misleading skill names.
Perhaps this wasn’t an answer to my question, but If it was I meant the #5 skill on the kit, not the kit itself. No weapon skill on a kit is classified as a kit skill. The #5 skill is classified as an Elixir skill on the tooltip, and thus it should work as an elixir.
Yea, all of the profession npc’s can stomp from the downed state for some reason, not just the ele.
They also all hit like a truck right now.
Yeah, they are a bit buggy in that regard.
Changing out your utilities a lot sure makes it more enjoyable to me.
Don’t really remember when that threshold came. I’d suggest playing with Static Discharge and P/P and building around spamming toolbelt skills…
This is more engaging i.m.o. if you choose toolbelt skills which shoots towards wherever your camera is aiming rather than directly at targets, as it becomes a game of quickly aiming your camera as well. Thrown Elixirs does this i.e.
Quickly swapping between kits and you weapon kind of like an Elementalist is kinda fun too; Quickly swapping to FT for a bursty Flame Blast, a Knockback or a Blind is fun.
The Big Ol’ Bomb is fun to time with Firefields and especially the Healing Turret Toolbelt skill which creates an evasive Waterfield since it takes fairly good timing to make the bomb explode at the right time.
The Elixir Gun’s Acid Bomb is quite fun to combo into those as well, followed by an immobilize from either the Rifle or the OH Pistol and some comfortable shooting from your newly gained distance between you and your target.
(edited by Phadde.7362)
Coated Bullets completely melts trash if you aim rather than using a target.
5 target cap doesn’t do much good if there’s 7 individual AoE explosions on each shot =)
Does Super Elixir counts as an Elixir? Surely doesn’t seem like it in practice, even though it even says it’s an Elixir on the Tooltip.
Hey Ele community! I’m a thief and was wondering if it is worth it to roll Ele? I like the thought of flying into my enemies and blowing things up with fire grabs and moving around as fast as.. Well… Lighting. So here are my questions, is d/d ele viable? Is power Ele still strong? Can Ele be a good roll for wvw roaming? Is the class as cool as it sounds?
Thanks!
-yodog
Sounds like you’re talking about a Thief…
Ele is awesome, but doesn’t fit your description very well.
I never play with teamsizes larger than 4.
Courtyard is easily the most fun I’ve had in GW2 since the first Beta event. Considering that I really love this game, that is a really big deal!
MMO PvP has always been my favorite thing to do whilst gaming, but even with this game’s great combat system, I couldn’t get into sPvP. I though this was because Conquest couldn’t stand on it’s own to draw me in; sPvP felt repetitive, small and a bit uninspiring.
Most of all I wanted something that focused much more on actual PvP combat; Decent fights (duels) in Conquest was few and far between. It was usually a game of waiting until reinforcements came on either side to outnumber the other, or it would end up with someone just disengaging from the fight.
I hope that they create a separated ranked queue for this game type, but I think it would be for the very best to make it something of a last team standing without respawns. And definitely with small teamsizes.
I’ve played in servers where people mimic this concept, and it’s easily the most enjoyable way of playing in the Courtyard for me.
. . . Perhaps it could be a best of 3? =)
’Es fine.
No fix.

Honestly though he wasn’t trolling…
> gullible <
(edited by Phadde.7362)
This annoys me a lot on encounters with small bosses… Captain Ashym in the Urban Battlegrounds fractal i.e: You can’t see anything once he’s lit on fire!
Especially with a small army of bulky Charr simultaneously chewing on him. There should be a slider to adjust the size of spell effects on characters.
I’m already in more then one guild, that is why I’m looking for group of people or individauls that aren’t necessarily in a guild. That’s why I didn’t post in guild section, since I don’t want guild.
Wouldn’t it be a lot easier to just gather up in a guild? =)
You can be a member of 5 guilds in total you know… I know I’d definitely prioritize a guild with friendly dungeon-runners that plays the game for the fun of it w/o stacking, before my current 5th guild!
The AA is a channel. Since the patch, all channel skills stack up like this. That’s the sum of all the damage dealt with that attack since you started channeling it; It took a long time for it to build up to that total damage.
The FT has fairly poor damage output.
Due to health being rapidly regenerated outside of combat, I think you shouldn’t be able to leave combat if played as a last team standing w/o the ability to respawn.
However, if played with respawns I think that you should be able to leave combat as usual.
I absolutely agree, if it was accidental then fair enough
…There is however a lot of short sightedness on the issue;
SR isnt OP.
-Stealth has never been an issue
ive not seen one 5v5 yet that occurs where people try cheesy 1 sided tactics.
That’s people responding to how they don’t believe fight resetting would be an issue. TDM will be far easier to cheese than conquest, it depends largely on how harsh Anet would be willing to be with skill restrictions.
I think calling out people like this from outside the thread is uncalled for and quite frankly insulting.
Okay, lets think this through. I think PvPers should be the RICHEST players… Why? We’re like the football (Insert other sport here) players of Guild Wars 2. PVE players are like the daily workers. They can grind away their lives but we’re the real excitement worth watching. When you want to hype someone up over the game you don’t show them a chump-train you show them a guy beating some other guys kitten in some BLOOD SPORTS ACTION!
So. Because I feel like PVPers, the blood sport-Hathletes, should be the most well paid, I suggest games are paid based on ELO/Rating.
- PVE heroes come in, do a team que, they get like 10s lose/20s win.
- Top tier players do a game in tpvp they should get greatly increased rewards per game like 50 per lose and 2g per win. AND contract bonuses… And a Ferrari. Why? Because we do something worth getting paid for.
Thanks for your time.
Hire me.I’m a PvE guy. I can solo Lupicus and Arah. I grinded out my legendary gs. I also decided to do some PvP with the new patch. Wow. I got my rear end handed to me on a silver platter.
I agree with a lot of what you’re saying. It’s just not fair that top end PvPers can’t make a fraction of what I can make in a very minor amount of time. While I don’t think that you should be making more than we PvEers, there should definitely be an economic balance there.
Feels like PvE players are overall more driven by gold reward than PvP players. PvP players deserve more gold, but I think it’s better for the game if they didn’t get more gold than PvE players
^ Well, it’s not terrible for me atleast. I’m having a ridiculous amount of fun in the courtyard! (With small teams)
Love MMO PvP, but purely Conquest isn’t really my thing.
I don’t think removing the tracks is a good solution, I’m mostly a PvP player and I love them. I think that bringing PvE and PvP closer together is awesome. It sounds really weird that people only farm chests and don’t care about winning. When you win you progess on the reward tracks faster (I think? That’s what it feels for me at least), and farming dungeons is a faster way to get those rewards, possibly except for those weapons because you get them all the time (on the dungeon reward tracks that is)
It’s nonsensical, really; If you want these skins you’re better off doing PvE anyways. If you win I’m fairly sure that you progress twice as fast on those tracks.
Feels like a small minority of PvE players. The tracks is probably going to bring a massive amount of people to PvP, which really are the building blocks for a thriving PvP
^ LoL has an insane population though. I don’t know if gw2 pvp can handle two gamemodes. Let alone that they start balancing in favor of both those gamemodes.
Atleast I will start playing a whole lot more Conquest as well if TDM stays in the game, since it makes me want to focus on PvP.
I’m quite certain that sPvP needs multiple game modes to really grow.
I’m in absolute bliss on that map! 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 is absolutely the most fun I’ve had in the game.
I think this game mode would be much better though if there wasn’t any respawns until one side is dead.
Perhaps you should try playing with a ~3 player teamsize! It’s all I do in that map, and I’m literally having my best time in GW2 doing it! =D
I think Water combat (if that’s what you’re pointing at) would be a bad feature on that map.
He did make some good points though. Some mechanics in this game have no counter which is counterproductive in any 2v2/3v3 death match format which is all about: Position, Peeling or CC, focus, and MORE IMPORTANTLY managing CD ( saving cds to counter key moves.), etc.
But still, once anet decides to fix it, I do think DM will suit gw2 perfectly.
Really getting hyped up about this now =D Gief Rated! May the best combatants win!
