Gw2 is a masterpiece at it’s foundation. Content-wise however…
You guys are making some really good points, thanks.
Do you guys think this should be a higher priority than other changes? Why?
A proper dueling system would probably heighten peoples interest about PvP, and it would generally be really good entertainment while hanging around in the capitals (which is done a lot), both for the participants and for the spectators. (Especially since the combat in this game is so visual, and doesn’t revolves so much around your individual UI.)
I think that it would be a very strong feature and an important component in the game. But at the same time, it isn’t as urgent as some other things that needs to be looked over.
Why do you feel custom arenas do not work for those that want to duel?
The obvious, basically; A right-click on someones portrait and another click to start a duel is a lot more accessible and thus appealing than having to hassle with a Custom Arena. Not only are there loading screens… how many does really have access to a personal Custom Arena? Since you probably don’t, you might very well have other people disturb you while dueling.
A normal Dueling system is just miles better than the super-clunky alternative (CAs)
In terms of grinding? I’ve felt GW2 have been more of a grind to me than WoW was when I played it.
I disagree 100%, WoW was nothing but grinding, whether it was PVE or PVP.
I think your tolerance of grinding, as with most of us, has diminished with age. GW2 is definitely not more of a grind than WoW though.
With the potential exception of leveling, Gw2 doesn’t require you to grind in order to fully enjoy the game; If I play PvE, I’ll do whatever I enjoy doing, and since cosmetics are the incentive (instead of a treadmill) I can pick my goals and work towards them in my own pace.
If you, however, strive for efficiency, or are simply impatient, there will always be a way to grind.
I think this is a very terrible idea. Hotjoin needs to stay.
snip
I sorta agree with you, but I think you’re being a bit extreme.
30 secs on Gust with a slow telegraph, 40 secs on Updraft needing melee range.
20 points into earth would require a complete build overhaul unless the Ele was already running an earth build, most are running fresh air or water+arcana support : /
Indeed.
Some classes have significantly better CC that suits Skyhammer (knockback/pull/etc) than other classes. For example Elementalists have basically non-existent knockback or stability while Engineers can endlessly troll people with knockbacks and toolkit magnet pull.
On points A, C and Skyhammer Room there is actually no PvP going on, purely a competition of who can knock/pull someone to their death.
Then there’s Skyhammer itself which is absurdly overpowered – radius is bigger than capture points, hits hard, knocks down, can’t be dodged/blocked.
Good point. Elementalists have knockbacks on Staff and OH Dagger, and on Lightning Hammer. Armor of Earth has a really long CD, and even though there is a trait which gives you 2 sec of Stability upon attuning to Earth, It’s easy to imagine why people wouldn’t want to change their traits each time they randomly get into “that map”.
Some Professions definitely have a seemingly unfair advantage; “Fear Me”, which is unblockable , and instant cast abilities which knocks you off must be really annoying at times.
Because for a map that prides itself a PvP map, it has surprisingly little PvP.
It’s more PvE actually because the environment (and the gigantic space-cannon) is your biggest enemy.
Essentially it’s a map build around cheesing other players, rather than actually fighting them in a competitive manner. In that regard it fits perfectly to Guild Wars 2.
Essentially Player versus Player while utilizing and considering the interactive Environment.
2. I have mixed feeling about the cannon, but let’s say it could be somehow changed.
….
….Skyhammer forces players to play differently than on standard maps, what makes them totally lose their minds.
Still, majority of players enjoy Skyhammer, and they are simply enjoying it in silence.
So it would seem that some don’t like this… variation while playing sPvP? Seems wierd since a big chunk of the criticism towards PvP in GW2 is its repetitive nature (perhaps because there’s only one game mode?)
Perhaps it’s just easy to get used to something (repetitiveness?) that when something new and in theory more exciting gets added it’s rejected by some?
I guess that cannon can make this snowball as well; It feels to me like it simply denies your presence in its targeted location, which can be annoying (Somehow, I’m fine with Trebs though)
Good initiative. I don’t thing, however, that your #1 will work. Who would want to go from the team with the advantage to just watch the others have all the fun?
Sounds like a really nice mechanic actually.
You can 1 shot people with CC spam
Unblockable cannon
Not every class has the same amount of CC and stability
So, essentially the issue lies with the fact that people can be pushed to their death, and that the Secondary mechanic is too strong?
I don’t do tPvP, nor do I play SoloQ more than once in a while.
Enlighten me: Why is Skyhammer bad in SoloQ and TeamQ?
Please be objective, reasonable, and don’t go bonkers.
Nice! Really enjoyable, and I generally don’t enjoy watching sPvP
No…just no. Team Deathmatch is good for people that just want to jump in a bit and score some kills to let off some steam, but if they’re going to release a new mode, it needs to be something that encourages strategy and skill, not the ability to zerg and stack for kills.
I think that it can be competitive on smaller scales… 2v2-3v3 perhaps? Since all the weight is on the combat, the combat itself becomes more complex and strategic.
Edit: I think permadeath is required for this though. If the matches are too short, make it a best of 2 or 3?

Really adore this tourney – Mostly because the prices are so epic!
Don’t know why I was surprised to see around four threads wining about these prices; Just the nature of easy-access forums.
Imho legendary are not the good rewards for a tournament like this.
I mean, who wins this tournament need unique rewards.
I agree… but I think this tournament is an exception, due to the big reward.
Something that ties into this though, is that perhaps the “stone tablet” with the list of tournament winners should be more in the center of the Hall of Memories, thus being more impacting.

This thread is ridiculous. “I have 40 gold and I feel broke”.
In – deed
The money I have now is enough to buy a whole T3 cultural set for skins, but isn’t enough to buy a pair of nice looking daggers, to be specific we are talking about aetherpath dark-sylvari themed daggers here which is PERMANENT content and exists for months now.
This is a gem right here.
Can buy the whole T3 cultural armor and complain about being broke because he/she can’t afford the 3d(?) most expensive dagger in the game? (Incinerator, Spark)
Get it together people.
Yeah, saw that as well. Arcane builds became even more useless.
On the contrary? Arcana builds are reliant on stacking high crit damage? This sigil is really great for Arcana builds.
…. on a profession that has close to no defensive utilites and just an “upper average” damage output?
Elementalists have very good defensive utilities. They have poor basic defense (@Warr).
If you’re good enough at the Elementalist (nothing extreme or anything alike), you’ll find that you’re very, very hard to kill – even in full Zerker (I’ve always played with E.A. though)
look a complaint about a ridiculous gamebreaking bug getting fixed
Agreed. +1
Its past time they stopped the FGS against the wall nonsense.
No. I don’t think they should remove the wall running in PvE – Not until they abolish stacking as a “general procedure” (can’t imagine that to be relatively hard to fix).
Until then, if we are to semi-exploit PvE by stacking, the wall running at least adds a fairly interesting element, and makes Elementalists very happy and appreciated.
So basically, your 2d T3 armor would cough only costs you 30-50g instead of 100g, awesome !
Now imagine for cheap armors …
I can bet you a thousand quaggan tonics that this is not going to happen.
Elementalist still have the worst survival and they are a light armor class. My main is a Warrior and i have a Necro, Ele and Ranger alt at 80. My Warrior is superior in PvE content.
The Elementalist need a huge buff in survival. They have to sacrifice too much survival to be able to do damage or they have to sacrifice too much damage to be able to survive. Same with Ranger as well. Elementalist still has one of the best supports though. Necro is close to Warrior imo.
Edit: The Evade on Burning Speed is a good buff to Ele survival.
Armor of Earth which has a 90 second cd? that skill should have a 30-40 second cd.
ArenaNet can’t balance classes. A light class with a defensive utility skill has 90 second cd. At least they are reducing it to 60 in the feature update, but still.
Elementalist is inferior.
I think it’s entirely a matter of skill in this case; If you learn to use almost all of the Elementalist’s tricks I think you’ll find that it’s way easier to survive in PvE as an Ele than a Warrior. Takes a lot more button presses though
It’s “easy” to gain gold in this game – that’s why others have many of them . You just need to tune your activities into correct ones.
In other words, you can’t play to have fun or play as you want. The dev’s want you to do x,y, z, (all instances) and flip the TP. Everything else will keep you poor.
You can play as you want. You can choose to do things that make more, less or no money. You think this game ought to reward all activities equally?
Type /dance in the middle of the Vigil Keep and eventually earn 1g in 10 minutes?
this exactly….. im tired of people crying cause they cant make 100 gold an hour doing nothing.
and lol to the “we need to play the tp to make gold”
no you dont
not at alland im curious….dewolfe
how does someone with over 10k achieves not know how to make gold in this game?
Indeed. Something that I really like about this game is that I can work towards my goals (currently Shadow of Grenth) by doing basically anything I want. There is a difference in efficiency, but who cares about being totally efficient in a game created for entertainment? Where gold is at the moment is (subjectively) very good.
(Since sPvP is progressively adopting gold, this is even more true.)
I main an Ele.
I don’t think this is worth arguing about.
Buying a new Trait in PvP will probably cost gold, since PvP gives gold (no more glory).
I think 2 Gold per Trait, and please, PLEASE, make it ACCOUNT bound.
Pretty sure that the PvE Version will be character bound. Would make a lot of sense to make it account bound in PvP though.
Whatever the cost for the traits, I think it should be easy to acquire in PvP.
Can’t we make backstab a 1500 range attack aswell? And make it do just as much damage when in front of the enemy while you’re at it?
I can’t believe how unfriendly this game is to the casual player in concern to endgame content.
Just saw this gem. Wow.
Hope there’s an incentive for doing them on my 80 toons… Really, really like the new system though
Personally, I like the place gold is right now; Doing whatever I like in the game feels rewarding enough, and the phasing towards my goals are good.
Don’t hold your breath … the locker datamined show that you would have to pay through gemstore each and everytime you want to withdraw a skin …. PLUS apparently, pay also to add a skin to the locker …
This would make it pretty close to useless :/I really hope this isn’t true.
If something like this would be true, it would not be as dramatic as you make it sound.
I’d like to play SPvP without downed.
Yeah, what he/she said… I meant that.
It’s a new map only for custom arena, without soloq or teamq not a new gamemode.
However we put it, it’ll still function as a new Game Mode.
I like the way it works as it is. Hopefully it’ll be powerful enough.
Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts, MonMalthias.4763! This post is exactly what we talk about when we mention formatting and concise feedback. Even though it’s a lot to take in, you do a great job of separating the ideas and making it easy to navigate.
I will be passing this on to the team to think about!
Amazing! This is really good to hear.
Could we not have these extremely over-exaggerated titles?
The Title doesn’t agree with yesterdays livestream.
Though, that’s from an Elementalist’s perspective
I main an Ele and a Warrior, both full Zerk. I have a way easier time surviving as an Elementalist. Takes a lot of practice and time to figure it all out though.
I’d like to see the option to play sPvP w/o rallying.
Then what game mode are you talking about? it is just a map….
Hm, as I understood from the Livestream yesterday, they clearly stated that it was a TDM map, and that they where still thinking about potentially making yet other game modes on that map. The chat also went absolutely bonkers about “TDM”.
2-New map is not TDM, new map is a new map without capture points.
The new map is Team Death Match.
I Love the new map! And the game mode!
Good job ANet! It was about time.
That thick irony was hard to cut through xD
There is no irony.
I Love the new map! And the game mode!
Good job ANet! It was about time.
YES, I need 2 of those!! =D
This is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! ! !
I’ve wanted something like this for a long time and now that it’s finally coming, you managed to make it This kitten Good!
Such a refreshment! There are a ton of things like these that should be looked over, and it really feels like we (literally) have to wait ~2 years to see them change.
Might actually be my favorite patch of all time!
Thank you! This is the side of ANet that should never be turned away from us!
counter strike >>>> gw2
I kind of agree. But those are two very different games, so I’ll ultimately disagree.
OT: They shouldn’t think that this is ‘just fine’. If anything, they should rather reward us a bit too much, than. . . well, doing this.
ANet are a wonderful company, but I can’t take them serious most of the time. Wth?
Marvin this is what you’ll be having afterwards.
For me it is unbelievable how some people love so much the PvP in GW2, playing the same tactic and map over and over again for 1.5 years till rank 70.
I don’t get it, probably it is just a matter of taste.
Yeah, I believe that sPvP would see a massive increase of traffic if there was at least a few (and diverse) game modes.
Doesn’t this entirely comes down to the different lightning at different locations?
The Preview window has a fairly bright and natural light. If you go to Queensdale during the day, it should look the same I think.
Quite frankly, I like the Gem Store a lot. Some of the prices are (sometimes really) off, but due to the fact that you can transform gold to gems, the Gem Store gives me more to work towards in the game. And it’s a wonderful business-model.
(Though, when you look at which rate new content is released, it would seem that they’re a bit short of developers and thus aren’t making that much money off their business-model to hire more?)
According to NcSoft’s reports. ArenaNet have hired 50 more people to the company. I would say they waste alot of time at experiemnting with new things like LS. Such new concepts take time to try out and may actually get canceled which means that alot of their projects don’t even see the light. On the other hand, the biggest portion of the Anet team have been working on 2 specific projects and neither of them are released yet.
+1
But why the hell are they so slow at getting things done?!
… To stay reasonably on topic though, one would think that they adjust the price depending on how well things are selling (and how much they themselves thinks that the items are worth). Perhaps it generates more money for them to have some prices which seems ridiculous.

Stacking & skipping content (imo) means missing out on what’s actually enjoyable in PvE and replacing it with tedious and boring exploitation. (Molten Fractal is a prime example. Might be the wrong name on that one though).
It seems to me that people can’t bare to play the content in a fair manner, if there’s an easy (& cheesy) way of playing it with no challenge what so ever and most importantly offers an increase in their gold/time -ratio.
The only solution might be to fix the terrain. If that doesn’t work for whatever reason, then I can think of a solution, just from the top of my head: Adding lethal but easy to avoid AoEs. You can do a hellova lot by just adding a mechanic to the fight, while still keeping it entirely relevant for the fight.
Thank you! I’ll thoroughly check that build out! =)
Looking forward towards additional suggestions!
Depends on what you’re looking to play.
For PvE I’ve found that condition builds are troublesome, but that’s just me.
I’m not a big fan of ConD either. Mostly due to how the game design screws them over.
The focus is PvE. Probably going to spend most of the time in Fractals.
