All credit to them, but they are actually terribly slow when it comes to these kinds of things.

You’d think that it would be worth the time to just add an option to either:

- Show Kit-Backbacks
- Show Back-items rather than Kit-Backpacks
- Disable Kit-Backpacks.

. . . But apparently, it’s really hard to squeeze in. Or they just highly prioritize other things, some which we don’t know of. I guess it’s actually kind of hard to understand how this all works in a relatively large company. Could just be a fallacy, which they aren’t without.

Where in MMo history will you ever see or hear a dagger can output high damage close to if more than a hammer, axe, greatsword, sword, mace and a shield?

None whatsoever

Well…………only in Guild Wars 2

Warrior risk their lives (without having no access to Stealth whatsoever), for battle whereas Thief having access to Stealth can walk through a full army without any risks whatsoever and still survive.

Does this sound reasonable to you?

Example; how can someone not wearing any bulletproof armor (thief) and only carrying a wooden stick, can absorb every incoming bullets and still able to walk up to his enemies and kill them with a single blow?

Seriously, who came out with this Ridiculous idea and Absurd design for this class?

This is silly…

Having a dagger thrust into the spine at your neck surely does more damage than an axe or hammer to the leg.

Like most games, GW2 have a very unrealistic approach to damage. I.e., suffering from a “Headshot”, “Backbreaker”, or a sword, impaled through your chest is just a slight decrease of your health.

Thieves have the lowest health while Warriors have the most health of all professions (shared with the Necro). The Warrior is balanced in such a way that they’re supposed to be able to handle a head-on approach (by utilizing this health and Heavy armor), while Thieves relies entirely on evasion.

I was thinking of bringing up the argument about having the day/night cycle match the actual, IRL one.

But now that I think about it, I probably just want the night in GW2 to be darker, indeed; It felt like the night wasn’t immersing and I didn’t care if it was night or day – But that’s probably simply because the night barely differentiate from the day, aesthetically.

Oh, and the skybox etc. is absolutely gorgeous. Don’t mess with that too much… Guess this whole matter would be less of an issue if the camera didn’t face towards the ground all the time, so that the sky would take up a bigger part of your FoV.

PvD has to go

in WvW

Posted by: Phadde.7362

Phadde.7362

Actually this is the invalid argument:
“Defending SHOULD be easy with a 5 man team.”

Against a 50 man raid? Why? Because you put alot of effort in upgrading it?

…..

I’m not pro PvD and I don’t really care about it, I countered many such attemps with well positioned ACs, trebs or catas and player AoE. I dont agree on that 5 vs. 50 should be in favor of the defender.
50 vs 50 is in the favor of the defender.

…….

So take out PvD to win what?

- Because a Zerg of 50 is actually a lot more usual than a group of 5 defending a keep? You’re suggesting that it would require 50(!) defenders to defeat such a Zerg – That’s insanity! It’s hard enough to have a tenth of that at the time of the attack. They’re attacking a bloody fortress! It shouldn’t be something you just run towards head first.

- Tagging a keep by barely scratching it with a knife is ludicrous. If you manage to actually hold such a waypoint, then you should be able to use it without having it being disabled that easily.

PvE Zerkers.

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Phadde.7362

Phadde.7362

Part of the problem also stems from the fact that in challenging pve (for example fotm49) bosses will oneshot a lot of people most of the time, even in pvt gear. If you’re not oneshotted, if you are not playing properly you will die instantly as a zerker or within a few seconds as a tank. Take grawl shaman for example, during his add phase. If you don’t stand on a reflect when those adds spawn, you have moments to live whatever spec you are – so why gear for defense?

I’d like to see overall damage changed from 1 massive one-shot hit every now and again to multiple smaller hits, thus reducing the reliance of dodge/aegis/blind… but then implementing 1 fairly hard hitting yet dodgeable (or CCable – remove defiant stacks for a few seconds) attack every now and again. Uncategorised fractal ogre (harpy level, first boss) is a good example of this. This would increase the usefulness of mitigation such as toughness and replenishment of health via heals.

Wow! You even gave the best solution to the “CC & Defiant” -problem that I’ve ever heard of.

Isn't it an easy fix?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Phadde.7362

Phadde.7362

I’m fairly new to the Necromancer profession. While reading up on the profession, I found that the community seems to have accepted that the Necro does support (in practice) really poorly, since it comes of such a huge loss of Dps – A loss that isn’t nearly as big among the other professions. Even the builds that tries to focus on offence seems to be widely considered to, quite clearly be sub-par, since other professions can deal the same amount of damage but still gain party-wide benefits

I’ve quoted one guy that I found on the GW2guru, that has written extensive guides about the profession and who’s opinions seem to be accepted and shared with the rest of the community:

The criticisms on these and the official forums are, unfortunately, pretty well founded. In ideal settings, Necros fail to bring to the party what so many other classes can. Necros have excellent niche builds (Vuln stacking, soft CC out the wazoo), but those things often come “for free” on other classes. For this reason and for this reason ALONE Necro sits in low-tier. If Necro gets some party love, it’ll jump up to top-tier quickly. It’s already there for PvP.

The general consensus is that, since Necros bring near-nothing to the table to help a party they should be left behind. While I agree that this assessment of the Necro’s offerings for a party is accurate, I’m still a proponent of using them in dungeons/fractals if my group’s okay with it. . .

. . .In reality, a full GC Powermancer sits in top-tier when it comes to single target DPS. But because the Necro can ONLY bring single target DPS and no offensive group support, he’s left behind.

If these are the issues, if the Necromancer is sub-par quite simply because a lack of support, can’t this be easily fixed in the traits while also make the profession more balanced, when compared to others? Some examples that could easily be made party wide to resolve the issue:

Shrouded Removal: Remove a condition when entering Death Shroud.

Siphoning-Traits in general.

Foot in the Grave: Gain stability when entering Death Shroud.

Signet Mastery: . . . Activating a Signet grants Might.

Furious Demise: Gain Fury when entering Death Shroud.

Siphoned Power: Gain Might when entering the health threshold.

What do you think? Would these be easy solutions? If you do, why do you think that they aren’t in game already?

You don’t have to grind in this game, except for leveling to 80. Hell, you don’t even need Exotics to do dungeons (which where designed for the absence of them), but you’re going to get them quickly anyways.

Unless you’re an Min/Maxer, there’s never any need to grind. Grind is never mandatory.

Be sure to purchase the right kind of attributes for your armor! A Rare-quality item can quite easily be much better than an Exotic-quality item, if the attributes doesn’t match your build.

http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/81957-guardian-guide-index/

^This is a list of Guardian build-guides from the GW2Guru. Might be useful for you, since the builds are well balanced and more often than not comes with a good description of how to build your character in a synergistic manner.

The people above have pretty much nailed it all down.
You can purchase exotic-items from Karma-vendors in Orr http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Arcon_armor_of_Dwayna#Arcon_armor_of_Dwayna

Or with dungeon-tokens, awarded from Explorable Dungeon paths (this is also a great and enjoyable way to gain gold to invest in some nice items from the Trading Post!)

When does PvE get tough?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Phadde.7362

Phadde.7362

The challenging content in GW2 is not going to show up while leveling out in the world.

Fractals of the Mists is a Dungeon that has 50 levels of difficulty, it gets pretty silly. This is mainly only available @ level 80 though.

Then there are regular Dungeons. Ascalonian Catacombs is available in Story Mode(easier) @ level 30 and in Explorable Mode(harder) @ level 35.

In addition, Rangers are the easiest class to play. I can’t stand playing them for more than a few minutes, since the combat is neither challenging nor engaging. An Engineer or an Elementalist with the right builds is an absolute blast to play; I have to try really hard to be as effective as possible in almost every combat scenario. The difference is immense.

Dungeons & FotM requires a 5-man group. The best thing is generally to do them with guildies, as Pick-up-groups can include a lot of nasty people and rage-quitters (AC is the worst case, since it’s @ the lowest level)

Are fractals accessible to low-level characters, or should I have decent gear before trying?

FotM = level 80. If you’re going to do any dungeon, make sure to have Gear appropriate for your level. Higher-quality items is helpful, make sure to equip a full set of trinkets (more important that the former). If you’re dying a lot, equip more defensive attributes and so on. . .

It was an oversight in the original development of the game that they don’t know how to fix.

Like the condition limit…

I kittening hate that…

Either balance it so that Conditions are harder to stack, but are more powerful; Making each stack a lot more effective but harder to achieve and thus Conditions remains just as powerful as they currently are (except that there’s no limitation)

Or, invest in some better server-capacity, just for the sake of Condies.

everything you said doesn’t explain why everyone is kicked when the instance opener exits the instance. Let’s talk about dungeons or fractals.

Well, if you didn’t get kicked out, people would ask others to spend a minute to open the Dungeon or Fractal Level for them and then just leave the group so that the others could find a replacement, while not worrying about having the requirements of doing the Explorable Dungeon-path or the Fractal Level in the first place.

You get kicked to preserve the integrity of the design philosophy that your group actually have to earn the rights to play at a certain Fractal Level or in an Explorable mode.

The Charr as a race have abandoned their gods, yes. Doesn’t mean that you don’t harness the power of Runes of Dwayna, or use the Trait Dhuumfire, etc.
Besides, if you want to be a Charr with an awesome Grenth-armor, why would the Charr society stop you? If you don’t, just do not use the armor.

And the set would look absolutely amazing on all races imo.

Norn would make it look massive, sylvari would make it look like a human because it’s completely covered. Charr would look like a char..everything apart from cultural looks out of place on them..what do u expect from a horned tiger? And asura are supposed to be goofy by their nature. So everything would be as it should.

No. I mean that Grenth is a Human god.

Charr having their ‘’Charr have no gods’’ and running around looking like a human god will look ridiculous.

Norn having their animal spirits.

Asura believes in the eternal alchemy, seeing everyone else as a lesser race as well.

Sylvari is most likely the only one except humans themselves that would fit since Sylvari has taken the appearance of humans, and they are like children out in the world to learn.

What a slap in the face to the people who bought the regular T3.

Yes, you can sit in LA chatting with friends. Now, technically speaking, no other game is grindy either if you don’t want to grind.

. . . OR, you can play the game as intended with everyone else. =)

What do you mean by “as intended”? Because i see clearly that the devs do intend us to grind. A lot.

. . . Why do you need to grind? Surely, if you do things faster in such a way that you put the reward before the actual fun of the journey towards that reward (i.e., kinda grindy), you’ll get that reward faster.

If you take a few glasses of your favorite ale as an example: Either you enjoy your ale and drink it in the pace you feel like, get that deep feeling of the flavour and feel fortunate of how cold it is. After some pleasurable drinking, you and your friends gets drunk – This is the reward you where looking for, since you’ve all had a rough week.

Or you chug them all down, one after another, feel a bit ill afterwards. But boy, did you get drunk fast.

If you want to have full exotic ASAP, you’ll kinda have to grind. Or you can just take it in a nice pace, enjoy the journey towards the rewards without stress, and without freaking out because you’ve a new guy in the group that you’ll have to help out a bit and do some explaining, because he’s “ruining your tokens/minute -ratio”

This is what I think each and every time on the last boss in the Urban Fractal; you can’t see his animations due to all the particles that covers him.

They are developers, not entertainers or PR-people.

It seems like the devs just manages to get some time over to show us something that they think we’d appreciate a lot. I’m grateful that they do it, since I’m always interested in what they have in store for us!

. . . And it is a kittenarming to see them fail =)

Edit: I can’t say c h a r m i n g?

Why there should be a dps meter

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Nooooooooooooo. . .

I love the way it is; You build your character the way you want, without min/maxing (unless you want to). I think a DPS meter would provoke a more elitist community that’s a lot more hostile to fun/niche builds, or just anything but the best in general.

Never, ever support this, please.

Keep it the way it is. I don’t need some digital meter that scores my progress vs. others. I know I bring a lot to the group when I play with my FT/EG-Engi (i.e.) whenever we’ve somewhat less experienced players with us.

Yes, you can sit in LA chatting with friends. Now, technically speaking, no other game is grindy either if you don’t want to grind.

. . . OR, you can play the game as intended with everyone else. =)

You can play the game just as much as anyone else, even if you don’t grind. You might have to wait a bit longer to do high level Fractals though.

Should PvP Be More Integrated Into Game?

in PvP

Letting me use my pvp appearance in pve would be a nice start… Considering how long it took to get these ranks…

No, I don’t agree with this at all. Those rewards are a testament of your accomplishments in PvP, a very different part of the game.

In addition, you’d miss out on the journey towards acquiring those skins in PvE =)
If you already had access to them, the journey would be kinda ruined for a lot of people.

Should PvP Be More Integrated Into Game?

Yes, that is the problem. The majority of the playerbase, which are pve only players, care only about rewards.

There are no real rewards for them, so its impossible for them to get into it.

Imo, it would be nice (but nonesense) to give experience scrolls, like insta level or insta lvl20, but I’d have no idea for what they should be rewarded.

I’m still praying for a simple 1vs1 mode, where the reward would be some silver on a seperate leaderboard… Being higher on the leaderboard gives more silver to reward skilled players :P.

I assume making a duellig mode is simple, even though I know that assumption is wrong.

That, and they’re already working on a reward system. I wonder if those rewards are usable in pve… It could very well attract some attention.

Yes! I agree with this post very much! Got a bit huffy about “pve only players, care only about rewards”, but that is essentially what keeps us going. Even if we enjoy the way to the rewards very much, I think we still “need” the reward to keep us from being bored.

I don’t think that the issue with a 1v1 mode is that it’s hard to create, but rather because it doesn’t agree with their balancing-philosophies; People will get upset that some professions are overpowered in 1v1, because the balance is created around Conquest and 5-player teams.

Bringing the game closer together is something we’re actively working on accomplishing. We’ll be able to spill the beans on everything early next month. (I feel like a broken record at this point.)

But seriously. Beginning of December. All shall be revealed.

Thanks Grouch! =)

You don’t >need< Exotics to do Dungeons (Exotics where meant to be long time goals, but they screw’d that up completely, making it the “standard”)

There are parts in the game that are grindy, and those parts are meant for those who enjoy that type of gameplay. GW2 isn’t grindy, if you don’t want to grind. Compared to other MMOs, they achieved their goal of making a game where grind isn’t needed.

Although, if you really want something that requires grind, then you’re kitten out of luck…

…. And the manifesto-trailer… It feels like they where a bit ignorant (and frankly naive) about how some of the philosophies that they explained in that trailer, when it came to the crunch, might not have been quite possible to achieve.

Either because of a lack of time, or because they would end up damaging other parts of the game too much.

ughh why did you necro this thread? For a second I got excited and actually thought the devs were coming back to this forum to post again.
Q_Q

It deserves to be brought up again? Wouldn’t hurt the devs to be further reminded.

Why the Selfish Builds?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Phadde.7362

Phadde.7362

So I run dungeons pretty much nightly and do almost all of them. And builds that just seem to peeve ……..
……..
……. I understand the play how you want mantra but in something like a dungeon shouldn’t the goal be to play as a team?

Not everyone enjoys to support their teammates with their abilities. You choose how you want to build your character, and even if this means discarding some support that would’ve been a big advantage then that’s just the way you choose to play and enjoy the game.

I liked Crovack.3761’s idea

Their (non-)actions and the disbanding of the dungeon team show pretty clearly how much the devs care for dungeons: Not at all.

We’re all entitled to an opinion, so here’s mine: I hate this over-exaggerated critical attitude. They have chosen to spend time improving other parts of the game instead of getting this issue solved. No-one have to agree with their priorities, but it’s clearly in their best interest to keep us happy with the game.

Phadde.7362

Why are exotics (including weapons) dropping in fractals are account bound? If i get same exactly items dropped in any other dungeon or just in open world, they are not account bound.

Not sure, but I personally wouldn’t worry about the current FotM-reward system since it’s going to be overhauled in just a few days =)
