Hi Henry,
Firstly, thanks for taking time out look into this. Whilst this has been a hotly debated topic in the past, it’s good to finally see some conclusive evidence on the matter.
I ran these figures again through my contacts in China and found much the same numerically. A nerf would seem like a legitimate response, if only to ease the concerns of ncsoft shareholders (who we believe regularly check this site).
Hope you also enjoyed your weekend, and we wish you the best of luck in your 2016 esports campaign.

Enough cheap talk. How do you intend to fight the decap abilities of a thief? Someone from the team constantly sitting on close? because short bow+shadowstep will traverse a lot of distance, it will be hard to counter that. I expect this to be a major issue in the upcoming season.
Nobody knows what will happen if thief gets into the tpvp meta, as this has never happened before.
Phaatonn, London UK
So I got infracted for typing “-1 this post” to some bloke complaining about a zerker meta..
So let me put this in a more ‘constructive’ manner.
Lame bunker meta is lame. People will be running marauder and the new power prec vit toughness ammy in the next one, which isn’t even that glassy.
I will probably continue playing rabid/wanderers engi, which means all these thieves will be 1v2d anyway. They are after all one of the few classes with clear counterplay to their cleanses.
Phaatonn, London UK
The big question is..
Will we get Leshreaver miniatures in 2016?
Phaatonn, London UK
Because it would be the go-to for lameness if they just removed cele+soldiers

big thanks to Josh for fighting the good fight
heavy handed but clear results
the only thing left is what to do about elite specs vs regular specs
Phaatonn, London UK
All that matters, is if they can produce viable builds in S2 that have some depth to them.
Please guys, everything else is getting better, but without a better direction to the skills and balance it’ll be for nothing
Start by raising cooldowns substantially on all these new skills.
Then introduce a trade off on choosing the elite specs (or just nerf the passive traits)
Lastly, make elite specs F2P in spvp only. Or at least released as a smaller package.

I think they should remove class stacking for ESL.
Is it the ultimate solution? No. But there’s no reason not to make ESL the best it can be given the circumstance.
Phaatonn, London UK
personally i’d like to see a reduction in the vanilla skill recharges.
faster skill cooldowns leads to faster gameplay, which is good,
swinging your hammer and then waiting 30 seconds for that skill to cooldown…is bad.
I believe these posts are connected.
The what (that elite specs are OP) is completely justifiable. We are in a capitalist world after all.
But the how is a funnier one – the new specs don’t feel rewarding when used against actual players. This I think is a genuine mistake, in no way intended by the team – or company.
Feedback like the quote above is understandable. People like to be kept actively involved (not spamming 1) and nobody likes being OOC ever.
But the truth is, one of the main (and possibly the only deep) mechanics in pvp is the following.
conservation of cooldowns
The idea is simple; players that hold off on key skills as long as possible will likely win the matchup. This in turn leads to players ‘baiting’ cooldowns, and calling them in team fights.
When cooldowns (I did stress defensive cooldowns) are lowered to a point this meta game devolves into players rotating through defensive skills, irrespective of how opponents are behaving. At this stage they are instead punished when conserving them for not utilising skills frequently enough. This is what most of us term faceroll, and isn’t rewarding pvp. That problem you can’t always put your finger on.
The fix? Raise cooldowns, hence the OP. Unfortunately this isn’t really a balance issue. My hope is that someone who already thinks this from the team decides to act on it and makes another pass on E-spec cooldowns…

Can I suggest you put this thread forward as ‘constructive’ to the forum manager…
The cooldowns on almost all the new weapon skills/utilities, particularly the defensive ones, are too short across the elite specs. They need to be raised.
Much like the (year late) shave of HS, I’m afraid the solution to this is fairly obvious here.
It’s likely nobody will comment on this thread. They’d all rather argue with a pve dude about legendary skins. But you, you hawk-eyed forum volunteer. Please flag this post as constructive feedback.
At least I can say I tried.

If you are winning as premade against vingador and 4 randoms 500:499 it should also get treated like that – meaning you deserve to lose pips.
Same like you deserve to win a pip when you are losing a close match against a team which actually should 500:0 you.
No pips should be awarded for any win versus his highness.
Phaatonn, London UK
They need to substantially raise the cooldowns on almost all newly implemented defensive utilities/ defensive weapon skills.
That, coupled with the proposed malyx nerf, would fix pretty much the lot.
You’re welcome everyone. I hope this post drowns in a long thread about nurf condis an buff teef survive.
Kind regards,

Don’t ruin it. We need more posts explaining why they are typing characters…

The toxicity here is strong. Its a step forward, and the changes are extremely conservative. Lets not jump on them in the one thread where progress has been stated.
I hope this continues going forward. If arenanet do start balancing their game iteratively, gw2 pvp certainly has the opportunity to reinvent itself.
There are some major MMO pvp games out Q1 next year however. I hope this mentality can gain some traction with the fans before then.

Dear Devs and the ESL team,
Just wanted to say nice job with the twitch advertisement on the loading screen yesterday. There was a substantially increase in numbers for a weekly cup, and no doubt those numbers will improve as other aspects are addressed and competition hots up. Little touches like that will add up quickly.
I know the balance team are having difficulties translating the sustain/support-incentivised PvE balance of various bunker builds to Conquest balance (lets be honest!). Aside from this however there were several nice touches to the weekly cup that shows there’s been a ton of work done to improve things in this area – even the removal of nasty wubwub!
Kind regards,
P

But why not? Because the developers arbitrarily attached reward A to content B? Why? Why couldn’t they open it up to several options, so that if you did want the Fractal backpiece, you could earn it by pursuing a PvP achievement line similar to the Ascension ones in complexity?
Can I make 2 points then.
1. If you really want to talk about about unjust rewards for playtime dude, can I remind you that EVERY pvp player that played the first 1.5 years lost ALL progression (they normalised all 50+ accounts to 80 then made rank points about x6 times easier to aquire) with nothing to show for it. No legendary, title or achievement. Absolutely nothing. Probably about 3k hours for nothing. Nada.
2. This is exactly the attitude which makes most modern MMOs bad. Everyone wants everything, streamlined, obvious and standardised. This removes all the magic of that kind of game. In vanilla EQ we couldn’t even find you’re way out of the starter city without help, now we want every reward from doing anything.

Well if you want the PvP legendary wings, you gotta do a lot of PvP unfortunately. It sounds like sPvP isn’t your favorite mode, so maybe you might enjoy the game more if you aimed for content in other areas, like the fractal legendary.
The Fractal wings are even worse, but even if that weren’t the case, they are two different wings. It’s not like “either/or,”it’s not like “the PvP wings aren’t your thing, so go for the Fractal Wings instead,” If someone wants the PvP wings, then they _want the PvP Wings," there’s no alternative available.
Now what would be a valid alternative is if you could earn Ascension Backpiece via other activity tracks that don’t involve the PvP Leagues, but that is not currently on the table, so instead I now have to spend a great deal of my time in game HATING what I am doing. GG ANet.
PvE logic. Deal with it.
If I _wanted fractal wings I’d have to spend weeks crafting time gated gear and auto attacking colorful scripted bad guys. But that wouldn’t be fun to me, and my wants in life aren’t overshadowed by a desire for virtual backpacks.

Guys I think we all want to see personal MMR independantly impact the amount of pips won or lost.
Rather than devolving this discussion into anecdotal toxicity, lets make it clear what the issue is (as Helseth did).
Without this tweak, when coupled with mmr abuse of the safety nets, the system could risk getting worse as people progress in leagues (they need to reflect actual ability)

Removing people from queue on map travel is a decent middle ground and should be easier than temporarily removing them from the queue. However, even teleporting within a map can have decent load times and hooking up warnings to every way you can leave a map, like Elwinson listed, is still a moderate feat.
The new player argument is obviously not an ideal one, but at the time was decent. I’d argue its more important now that we’ve removed the tutorial, but ideally should not affect where you can queue from once you know how PvP works.
The WvW queue behaves much differently from the PvP queue and cannot be used as an example or launching point unfortunately.
Increasing match accept times I don’t think is an effective or fun solution to this problem.
Maybe another tickbox on the PvP UI; ‘enable queue outside of the mists’ etc?

Honestly considering I am 1v2ing players in unranked at the moment with a very different thief build, I think maybe a video on it will help all but the very top tier thieves deal with the meta as it stands.
Maybe I’ll put one together tonight. Note that this is done only to try and help the thief community, and to give upper-mid to low tier players much more options on thief.

Defense GM – rousing resilience rework gain 1000 toughness while not attacking
Useless trait. I wouldn’t slot it.
Why… Ok cleansing ire… Make it master level though and it’s best in slot…
Phaatonn, London UK
So I just put this in the spvp forums, but may actually be worth suggesting properly.
As a warrior defector a long while now (but 7k games zerk warrior in the first year – ouch I know!) these are the sorts of things that would bring me back to the class.
Defense GM – rousing resilience rework gain 1000 toughness while not attacking
(Allows players a higher skill ceiling with stow weapon, also adds some resilience to burst whilst still having lots of counterplay)
Berserker GM – Quickness is100% more effective whilst in berserk mode
(Basically brings back a mechanic that every warrior at launch will tell you was great for the class – 100% quickness)
These are the sort of things that would get me to dust off the old warrior. Also cookies will be in the post.

teef is real strong right now, ya’ll are cray
Also some of these warrior suggestion miss the mark like a hambow vs players with eyes
Warrior needs an overhaul. The difficulty of landing hits vs the reward needs to stay, it’s just their defenses need something. It’s too easy to pick them apart, but passive sustain isn’t the answer.
Here’s 2 interesting trait ideas (come at me forums)
- player has 1000 increased armour when not attacking (rousing resilience revamp – stow weapon anyone?)
- Quckness is 100% more effective while in berserk mode (back to the glory days…)

I think no1 gets this..
Someone thought I was Teldo. I disabused them of this, and they responded by saying they would uninstall as they had waited 2 years for his return. They then went offline.
The funny thing is Teldo came online just before this all went down.

Winning 1v2s is certainly possible, but how you handle the first downed player is crucial. You need to run high dps, and unlike 1v1s have to make 0 mistakes.
With function gyro even 1v3s are possible, although has to be perfect..
Downed state is here to stay OP, if you stick around you’ll learn the various mechanics (we take it for granted but there’s a lot). Essentially if you’re 1v2 your best bet is to poison then cleave/interrupt the resser – any launches (on the downed player) are also very effective.

When has diamond skin not been a lame mechanic. Usually unviable, but makes me cri trying to 1v1 it on condi engi… It’s still doable but often not worth losing time over the standing around, autoattacking part..

By the logic in this thread we shouldn’t be receiving the bazillion champion bags we get, as they have no relevance to PvP also.

^ to be honest the new specs are fun and very easy to get started on, there’s never been a better time to make the jump from warrior.
Warrior is a bit like vanilla ranger, in so much as it really needs a redesign consisting of an increased skill floor + ceiling to be fun to play against whilst being viable. And I don’t mean just making it UP like it was back in the day.
Berserker is really just like polishing a t**d right now… Whether it’s OP or oki is another matter

Also the Devs do read and respond to posts regularly, when the forums aren’t toxic (they are right now by gw2 standards). I’ve certainly not helped with sarcastic posts, but they are always made with an aim to make the game better.
High toxicity is usually due to balance issues, or more pertinently people dissatisfied with gameplay, so be sure they are still reading for feedback.
