This unlimited sickle ISN’T COVENIENT in its present state, it takes 2 secs longer to harvest per use…
This bothers me the most about the sickle – this is just lame.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Is it confirmed, or is it a hoax ?
I agree, it’s a bit puzzling.Seems really subpar, regarding the job Anet made on the molten pick.
It has been no official work at all from ArenaNet about the sickle, so I am assuming it is not ready and was supposed to come with todays patch.
It is already on the gem store.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Well, there’s tonight’s patch – I wonder if any of these things made it into the patch…
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
This is the item that I would have gotten if it would be a sickle.
I don’t mind spending money on a videogame and helping ANet out financially, but I do feel a bit let down. First the 8-Bit crafting stations lazily being relabelled “Consortium” and now the sickle that is actually a pick-axe.
This is not fun.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Sad… I was looking forward to this – Was so excited about what the animation could be…

Why do you guys feel the need to be kittens about this?
I support the OP’s idea. Spamming any key (be it w or 1 or whatever) should cancel chat mode. Why the heck not?
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
New weapons are cool and all but I’d much rather see crossbows.
I love crossbows. If you were to create a thread for crossbows, I’d hop over and support you.
This thread, however, is about whips.

It was some sort of sky scape, hardly matter me and a guildie took turns rezing each other over and over and over again.. so much fun. I expect given your Sig you breezed through it without a hitch and due props on that. C.
I’ve only started on fractals and haven’t seen all the different paths yet.
But yes, if there was a path out there that I haven’t seen that has a jumping puzzle, that would make me happy.
GW2 is full of opportunities for mindless slaying up to full-on zerg in PvE and WvW; I’m happy that other parts of the game give us more things to do, beyond fighting…
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Hostile spells could be set to use their “actual” colours for PvP, and appear coloured for allies and PvE
This is an excellent idea.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I think that would be pretty cool.
Of course the meta boss fights are a lot easier than dungeon runs, so it should take longer to get the armor pieces. Also, so we really need more different types of tokens cluttering up the inventory/bank?
I’d prefer if it was a random (but fair) drop chance; same as with other items that already drop the same way for specific bosses (Ulgoth’s Tail, etc.)
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Wait, which fractal has a long string of jumping puzzles?
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Why would you do so many dungeon runs if you already have the best gear?
I can think of four or five reasons to run dungeons. I do it for fun! If it wasn’t fun for me, I’d go play something else.
As of right now, the living story is tons more interesting than dragon fights (both the meta bosses and personal story).
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Have you revisited the Chantry of Secrets? That fixed it for both my boyfriend and me, despite us having been there before. (Both characters had already completed their Order of Whispers stories, too.)

There really hasn’t been any previous sign of any hand to hand based professions in gw1
Yes, but the monk looked like one, so nobody noticed.
not all monks practice martial training(real life i mean) and the monks of gw1 were more or less just priests with a different name for their profession since all they really did was heal and smite in the names of their gods.
I know, but they looked like martial artists, and that was good enough for many players.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Hmm, I think the idea of the dailies is that they should be available to players of all levels, so that rules out all boss fights other than maybe the ones in starting areas.
Of course most players already do many boss fights every day, so it would be kind of pointless, too…

I agree for the most part but I don’t think anyone could complete the Giant slayer with working for it.
Well, yeah, Giant Slayer being the exception.

I’ve been in SAB once, didn’t like it and never returned. I’ve played crab toss for many hours and loved it though (and still do). Tastes differ, deal with it. Nobody forces you to play it.
Of course tastes differ.
The question is: what’s the taste of the majority vs. the minority of players? (ANet’s approach with GW2 so far has been to be very inclusive and cater to many playing styles.)
Surely a new mini-game being enjoyed by 80% of all players is better than a new mini-game being enjoyed by 5% of all players… right?
I have made suggestions that would have made Crab Toss more appealing to a larger range of players, thus making more efficient use of the time spent to develop a mini-game.
I don’t see why you would have a problem with that.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I would love to see a comprehensive guide on this (lots of pictures, or a video)…
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Usable By: Necromancer
Warrior
RangerOw Common!
Only classes suitable for a Scythe would be
1) Necromancer (obvious best choice)
2) Mesmer
3) Elementalist
Please elaborate on why the scythe would be a good choice for ANY of the classes (outside of necro, which, as you state, is obvious).
I don’t see the scythe as an obvious choice for any of the other classes, but I would love to read the excuses* people come up with
(* “Excuses” not meant as a criticism; I did the same in the whip thread (see link in my signature))
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Hello, I just started this game, and I am pretty lost lol…
I tried do the the world vs world I teleported into 1 of the choices, and it was empty…so I tried another, also empty…I don’t understand this..
TC WvW should never be empty.
Make sure you have /map and /team chat enabled; this way you see in chat what’s going on and where and how to get involved.

I also think the human T3 is amazing, and if I would have done ANY research before creating my characters, I would have created a heavy armour human female JUST so I can wear this armour. As it stands, I have no slots (or time…) left and already two humans (medium and light armour) so it’s clearly not going to happen.
One of the first things I went to armour websites for though was to look up the name of that armour to see whether variations of it were available for my Norn or other races. Alas, the answer was no.
Now I have to go without it for the foreseeable future and that makes me pretty sad.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Totally with you.
I want to spend more of my gaming budget on GW2 (well deserved money, if you know how much I’ve been playing recently) but I will make sure that I only buy non-rng items. Rox’ and Braham’s weapons looked awesome, but were nothing I wanted for my own character. But I can see myself buying stuff like that. Also to encourage ANet to give us more hard value for our cash.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I like that there are achievements of both kinds.
The repetitive ones (slayer, weapon mastery, …) will come naturally, although when I get close sometimes I feel like crunching it, even though that makes little sense. You can work towards them, but you don’t have to…
The skill based ones (jumping puzzles, SAB completion, dungeon master…) I also do, although if all achievements were so hard, ugh.
I also like the fact that you can basically just play the game and some achievements will randomly pop up. Overall a good balance, I think…. (Even though some weapon mastery ones take forever, especially on a class withough dps as a main focus who when playing in a group, more often than not won’t be the person to deliver the killing blow.)
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
See, but I like PvP and STILL think Crab Toss could have been 10 times better. Ot is not that simple, so no /thread.
For a start, in sPvP I can create a roster, which would have been great for Crab Toss, too (I wrote it up there).
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
When you can sell crafted goods for profit, more players craft and profit goes down. When it isn’t worth it, players stop crafting, and demand/supply changes a little towards making crafting ‘worth it’ a little. There are exceptions, but I wouldn’t say they make a huge difference.
Overall, it will always equal out this way.
So crafting is good for levelling, for achievements, personal satisfaction/independence from market, but not for making hard profit.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I suffered from a graphics bug for a long time that occasionally made water (or the water/land border) invisible. It was like flying.
So I expect that flying would feel pretty much exactly like diving under water.
Think about this: air combat would be exactly as much fun as underwater combat.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I cannot confirm this.
Last year I logged in from various places in Europe, the US and Australia due to travelling a lot for work.
At home I use VPN, using IPs from US and EU countries.
Never had a problem, outside of having to authorize the respective network (email link).
Based on my experiences, you will be 100% fine.

The bikini is “old-timey”. There are mosaics of Roman women wearing bikinis dating back to the the 4th century, and I vaguely remember something about evidence coming from Catal Huyuk in Turkey, which dates to more than 6000 years BCE. You don’t get much more “old-timey” than an 8000 year-old fashion.
They’re also shown wearing bangles and flip flops, for that nice old-timey feel.
No, wait.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Is this a joke?
It must be.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Yeah, there was one day where everything was fine for me, but yesterday again, broken. Super annoying.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
There’s already a button that allows you to skip all dungeon content, including those annoying end bosses.
It doesn’t give you the reward and achievements for the run, though.
… and if I quit my job, I wouldn’t get paid anymore. With good reason.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I am also personally against the idea of modern swimwear in the game. Whenever I go to Southsun Cove, and see tourists wearing modern style swim suits, it breaks immersion. It has been said a few times that IF swimwear was to be added, it should be old timey style.
Search for 1900’s – 1920’s swimwear in Google for an idea of what I mean. I think it would better fit the look and feel of GW2.
In the end though, I would like to see them put more effort into proper town clothing, and leave the modern swimsuit to Second Life
This ^

Don’t know. Since release, my boyfriend has had regular dye drops, while for me they’re very, very rare. You would think that over the course of so many months it would even out, especially as I play more than he does. But no.
I am now convinced that “dye drop chance” is a hidden stat on our characters. :P
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
It’s been suggested by a number of people in other threads .
I think flying would be fun, but I still don’t see why mounts, personally.

You really can’t compare both
But you can compare them. Seeing how popular the SAB was, I think you should compare them, because Crab Toss (imho) could have been a lot more successful if it had used some of the SAB principles.
SAB:
- Difficulty modes, players could progress at their own pace
- Varied achievements, something for everyone
- Play with/against friends – friendly and fun environment
- Guaranteed special rewards, plus chance for weapon skins
- Very popular
Crab Toss:
- Steep learning curve, high potential for frustration
- Few achievements, catering mostly to players who succeed at Crab Toss already
- Play with/against strangers – risk for hostile environment
- Guaranteed ordinary rewards
- Only half as popular as it could have been
My conclusion: with some minor adjustments, Crab Toss could have been a lot better, or at least a lot less of a source of frustration to half the GW2 population:
- Difficulty modes for learning to play(number of players, or karkas on/off mode)
- More varied achievements (denying, evading, use of tools…)
- Option to play with friends to avoid risk of hostilities
- Tokens and/or chance for sklerite skins, or other exclusive rewards
The last point is obviously inspired by wishful thinking, but even without it, Crab Toss would have been so much better. Exclusive rewards makes people suffer through more frustration, but they don’t alleviate the frustration, which should be the primary goal.
A longer, more thought out version of this ^ is here: What we can learn from Crab Toss – and I would love some more feedback on this, so anybody heading over to that thread and and sharing their thoughts is my hero.

Two more players here. Server crash?
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
The unofficial roleplaying servers are:
- Tarnished Coast (North America)
- Piken Square (Europe)
As far as I know, both have a relatively high population and relatively mature and helpful communities. (I’m on TC and I like it here.)
Here’s the World versus World rankings in case you’re really into that:
You would have to decide for yourself whether you would want to join “the winning team” or “the underdog”. (I’m not very active in WvW myself but I think I’d go for the latter.)
I haven’t been able to find a list of servers sorted by population, but in general, transferring (permanently) to en emptier server is cheaper than transferring to a high population server.
Useful info on transferring and guesting can be found here .

There are definitely some Sylvari out there that strike me as volatile personalities. I think of Sylvari pirates as Sylvari who get easily bored, and want to experience many different things; so they join whatever group for a while and “try on” different personalities.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
+1 to both these things.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I would be open to this.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
The whole point of having different types of tokens for different dungeons is that you have to replay the specific dungeon to get the specific armour.
Darkace has a good point, too: it prevents people from going the path of least resistance all the time and getting bored in the process.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I’ve had an engineer as my main since release. I have tried most other classes, but the engineer is still, and by far, the most enjoyable for me.

I like it. But I don’t really have anything to debate here.

Can somebody official please confirm that this works as designed? Because this behaviour looks unintentional to me.
Reason: even when all containers are impossible to interact with, the timer ticks down to zero. If this was working as intended, I would expect an “Event failed!” message instead.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
But it’s only the style of the SAB-items. Why do you think the items should have been there last month? Except for the style they have absolutely nothing to do with the SAB.
To be fair, none of the “SAB style items” have anything to do with the SAB, as you can’t use PvE weapons or backpacks in the SAB.
