I’m happy to see Southsun Cove evolve and change (new plants growing at Driftglass, etc.).
But I liked that ship…….

Are you guys using the ground targeting, or is your GW2 set to auto-target? (If so, disable auto-target.)
You have to select the correct skill and then target the mine by putting the big ground-targetting cross-hair ontop of it.
(I think the option is called auto-target, anyway.. I can’t go in and check right now)

I support /facepalm.
+1

Armour pieces based on the different dragons, ideally dropping (in some shape or form) from dragon chests.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
That’s true, but the OP (^^) invited speculation in this thread.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Hehe, maybe I was the only one who was quite happy with the much subtler version :p
But I am certainly glad that people are happy now, and I don’t regret my purchase.
ANet, thanks for listening to the players’ concerns and turning it into a quality product.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
- Larger selection of pants (as opposed to skirts) for female characters in both light and heavy armour (medium armours offer more than enough selection)
- Likewise, more “skirts” for male characters
- Including a “kilt” type
- More “skimpy armour” for male characters (and I think the inclusion of “invisible armour” is a great idea)
- Ethereal armour that is largely particle effects
- More themed armour / release with living story chapters (Armour is much more visible on the characters than weapons. Consequently, I care about the looks of my armour a lot more than my weapon looks. I would be more inclined to achievet “skihn tickets” if they could be exchanged for armour instead of weapons.)

(which, due to a bug, did not obscure later events and revealed some spoilers ahead of time).
It was a bug? That makes me happy.
Having a few story cinematics at key moments would have certainly helped players piece together the plot, so in the future we will likely use them in ways similar to the F&F releases.
And that also makes me very happy.
That’s the two issues I had with this chapter addressed Thank you! Really looking forward to future chapters.

Okay, that’s all very good input. Kind of makes me wish I could play 4 different builds at the same time
I think I’m happy now with my elixir gun/pistols girl for traits:
- 20/20/0/30/0 with
- Exploit Weakness, Enhance Performance
- Rifled Barrels, Fireforged Trigger
- Blood Injection, Backpack Regenerator, Deadly Mixture
That gives me enhanced damage, recharge and range on the elixir gun (the latter also for pistols), some additional condition damage, and almost permanent regeneration + might.
Next step, getting armour to complement this. Rampager’s sounds like a good idea, but yeah, maybe I’ll through some vitality/toughness into the mix for when things get too hot.
I’ll also try out pistol/shield as soon as I’ve got that pesky rifle mastery achievement out of the way. I’ve only ever seriously played double pistols, but after reading this thread and a few others in this forum I think I have to give the shield another try.
I haven’t given the tool kit much thought at all yet but I’m happy to try that out next!
Again, thank you for the insights and suggestions; I feel I’m learning a lot.

Finding someone to just mail you 25g will be much harder than someone selling it for them, which is also why I said someone they REALLY trust.
It would be easier to find five people and borrow 5 gold each. I’m sure that there’s a number of players who would take that risk, especially if they got it back with interest
If The Hunter sells for 500g, then paying them back with interest won’t be a problem either.
OP, whatever you decide to do, I hope it goes well for you.

Not one tear shed for the smashing of thousands of Skritt shinies?
I feel bad for both being Hero of the Skritt and holding the Skritt Slayer achievement :’-(

I was more interested in the psychotic downfall of the omelette achievement Sylvari than Canach.
Seeing her whole crew gone and her conversing with straw men. The feels. :C
Yes Awesome.

I just want to throw in that some shoulder skins don’t just “lack” one shoulder, but actually have two different ones for left & right. Which one should be kept when you disable them…?
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Thank you Unfortunately, I don’t have that much inspiration in me for crossbow skills right now (the weapon type seems super straight forward to me), or I would.
Your whip ideas are really cool, by the way, I’ll add them to my post!
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I love asymmetric armours – probably because I have played so many archers in other games. I love, love, love that guild wars has both 2-shoulder and 1-shoulder armours. (When playing a ranged character, I will probably always pick asymmetric shoulders to complete my outfit.)
If you could turn on/off one shoulder on any of the styles, fine, I’d support that, although I don’t strictly find it’s necessary as we have such a wide selection of shoulders already, and many shoulders combine really well with many tops that are (technically) of a different style.
The exception being super specific styles such as certain dungeon armour sets; in those cases it would be great if both 1- and 2-shoulder versions would be supported.

Fire – Water …
The logging axe shall be air. Lightning cutting down the tree on the final strike.
I’d buy that ^^
One more thing about the sickle, I’m actually very glad that it is more subtle than the molten pickaxe. Because with the amount of gathering I do, the pickaxe would get old pretty soon. I’m not enough of a lava fan to enjoy seeing that all the time. In comparison, the sickle feels understated, but I prefer it this way.
So whatever the future brings – whatever a jade logging axe (or lightning axe) effect may be like, I hope it is more on the toned down side like the sickle, and not “in your face” like the molten pickaxe. My cc
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
While the animation have been fixed the effect is now broken, at least I feel it is.
Whe you use the pick the ground immediately begins erupting with lava. The sickle used to do that too. Now, though, the water doesn’t burst forth until a second or so after you’ve finished and are moving on. It should happen as you kneel down.
I could get behind this, although I must say I can also live with the current delay.
When I get to harvest the same node multiple times, or harvest a farm, I get to see the animation in full, so it feels more special.
On other occasions I have found I just stand still and wait for 1 second to admire the effect before moving on.
So I only miss out on the effect when I rush through things… in which case it’s not that important.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Now that they’ve fixed the animation and the lock, I actually think this is a quality product. I saw on youtube that it was fixed and bought it. I’m really happy with the vines & water effect.
Thanks for fixing it, ANet. Now take my money.

I would like to add to my earlier feedback that I think that the rewards so far have been more than fair:
- Two (!) gorgeous backpack items of opposing styles, account bound.
- Unlimited +200% MF while adventuring in Southsun Cove. This in conjunction with constant events, some with guaranteed chests.
- ~ 180.000 xp, 7000 karma (at level 80), and 1 gold for completing the Canach fight. A daily group boss fight for additional daily rewards.
And this is just the stuff that we all take for granted now.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Everytime ANet try something new, there’s the risk of it rubbing people the wrong way; in fact whatever they do, there’s pretty much a guarantee that it will rub some people the wrong way.
Many of the changes were made in direct relation to earlier criticism. (“Flame & Frost was too cryptic? Here, have some journals spelling out the story for you.”; “Don’t like 5 player content? Here’s have a solo instance in addition.”) And the solutions ANet found may not have been perfect, and can be further developed into better future chapters.
Don’t slam them for trying out new things. ANet is kissing many frogs for us because they know that some of them turn into Prince Molten Facility.
Please be constructive in your criticism. This way you also have a much bigger chance that it is heard and processed. There’s really no need to put the devs on the defensive.
:)
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Just goes to show Anet does NOT want us farming.
Have you been to Ember Passage lately?

For what it’s worth, I’m still getting an average of ~ 1 ecto per item, using masterwork salvage kits. The rares are from random drops and boss chests.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I agree.
I also agree with some of the criticism (and made some myself), but man, people are harsh.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Downscaling means your armor & life will be the same as if you really were level 5. So you need to play smart, regardless of your actual level because in Metrica you’re level 5 baby. As a downscaled 80 you get the benefit of being fully traited, having 3 utilities, an elite, and 3-attribute exotic gear to start with. Which means you are stronger than a real level 5 because you have more weapons and wider stat allocation.
These things make a very noticeable difference to me. I can immediately tell whether I’m in Southsun, Orr or Queensdale…….
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Or you can just imgine the whol world as one level 80 place, and ignore the levels and the numbers. This is what the developer’s intention was on first place.
Yes, that’s what I do.
It’s undeniable that a level 1-15 map is less lethal to my character than a level 80 map… but I’m really glad that I have all of Tyria to play in and I’m not restricted to high-level maps because the lower level ones I just steamroll through… that’s what would make me super bored.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I want to express my thoughts about the storytelling & background info
I like… because:
- it’s very realistic to spread the story/infobits amongst a lot of npcs & 2 unmovable books. You have to find those npcs & objects which adds an exploration aspect to the game, which is great
- most dialogues are voiced & I love the voice-actors – it’s relaxing not having to read everything
- Interesting villain. I love how it’s not black/white, Canach just tried to help the settlers, so I can’t see him as evil creature. I like this character.
I don’t like… because
- “who the heck is Canach” – It’s so easy to miss the infos on him and I feel there is something big missing…
- Anet blogposts are great, I really love them. Why are those not in the game in some form? I feel like all these great stories are lost outside of the game and when playing you should have a context at hand. Who was this Canach again? There was a link in the launcher last week but now it’s gone.
- very few scriped dialogues like in Flame & Frost. There were first cutscenes and I thought to see improvements on those… instead no cutscene. Canach isn’t appearing before the finale which seems odd… I don’t feel like I’m hunting him down. Why isn’t Kiel the one who challenges him to the final battle. I’m really confused.
I really wonder (on the dislikes): was time the issue? Perhaps it takes much longer to create cutscenes and implementing a new system which mediates written stories/lore.
I agree with everything said here ^^
I liked parts of it and disliked others. Some details could have used ore polish. For example, when talking to the NPC outside of the boss fight instance, the player replay is “We will take care of it.” I assumed that that meant that I could bring my friends.
But overall, it wasn’t nearly as bad (in my opinion) as some people seem to think.
I certainly enjoyed it.

… and the same for the home instances in the other capitals.
There are a lot of spots in the open world that you can visit freely and that only get instanced for the personal story as needed. Why would the home districts have to be treated differently?

If you stay away from the mines when they detonate, they don’t down you.
I had enough time to disarm a new mine (or two) each time.

Yeah, he mostly did damage on me when he kicked me into a mine; other than that I felt pretty safe.

My client froze once since the patch.
(Before the patch, it seemed very stable. This was the first freeze I’ve had since I’ve upgraded to Win 64bit)
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I think there is a Canach animation when he is about to explode the mines (if I remember correctly), in which case the text would be only additional help.
If it was on screen (similar to PvP announcements) it would have been a little easier, I agree.
(But I had no problem finishing it the way it currently is.)
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I actually didn’t mind the Canach fight mechanics. It was annoying at first as it took me a few minutes to work out how to do it, but I don’t need everything to be handed to me on a silver plate, so that’s cool.
The story was (is) good, in my opinion. Still waiting for everything to climax when the rest of the content is released.
My suggestions for improvements:
- Canach instance: 1-5 player instance
After people complained so much about “being forced to play with strangers” during Flame & Frost / MF, ANet tried to compromise by giving us both a single player and a multiplayer instance. I really appreciate the extra effort. But people still aren’t happy (…). I think it would be best to just leave it to the players. I know designing instances that scale with the number of players is much more of a pain, but it worked for Cragstead & Hatchery, and the personal story instances.
- Canach fight mechanic
The red/green thing is not optimal for people who suffer from colour blindness (I know several GW2 players who are affected); a different sort of visual marker (e.g. glowing aura on/off) would have been better.
- Cinematics
Since Ellen Kiel’s and Canach’s dialogue VO was recorded anyway, a dialogue cinematic would have been nice. (Although I could only hear half the dialogue, so not sure what’s going on there.)
- Avoid spoilers in achievement page
Option 1: Use the achievement page for teasers, but those teasers shouldn’t give away too much.
Option 2: Release achievements together with the actual content to avoid spoilers.
- Crab Toss
These things
Maybe I will be able to give more constructive feedback after the release of the rest, but so far this is the only things I would suggest to change in future living story elements.

Yes, it makes no less sense than our own bombs detonating and hurting only enemies, or enemy bombs detonating and hurting only players. It’s not exactly intuitive, but it’s the same in the rest of the game.
/shrug

The clothing line was fixed… that’s something, I suppose. :P
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Alternatively, spam him with condition damage (not sure if this was intended, I believe not, but it works). It’s all papercuts, but you can bleed/poision/etc. him to death with a condition build in a few minutes.
If you’re going for the light-footed achievement, lure him towards the starter area with the NPCs where he can’t knock you into any mines, and fight him there.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Disable a mine with the correct skill (2 for bomb mine, etc.). It will turn from red to green.
Lure Canach towards you. When Canach walks OVER the mine, it will explode and take some 5-7% of hikittenpoints (I think). Repeat 15-20 times.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
one of them was developed in a few hours by one person, and the other was developed by a team for a few months. Comparing the two really isn’t fair.
That being said, Crab Toss isn’t for everyone. Some people enjoy those things and some people don’t. The good thing is that you aren’t forced to play crab toss to get the rewards, so you don’t have to do it if you don’t want to. I personally enjoy it, and get a bit of a kick out of grabbin’ crabs.
Different folks like different things, and that’s okay. We’re trying to build content for everyone, so everyone can be excited about something with our release.Good feedback would be telling us about the things you didn’t like about it, and the things you did like about it. A nebulous statement of “It sucks” isn’t constructive. If you want to actually see change, you need to give clear feedback so we as developers can talk with each other about things we could change for next time. Whether its an activity, a dungeon, a boss, etc, giving us feedback about why something didn’t sit well with you is far more valuable than just telling us something didn’t sit well with you.
Is this helpful at all?
