Maybe it’s a liability thing: maybe whoever operates the Asura gates (who DOES the money that we pay go to anyway, lore-wise??) disclaim that they cannot be held liable for any material losses when you pass through, such as hair clips or your fillings or a box of contracts.
The Consortium strikes me as an organisation who would be extremely aware of fine print and would avoid using the gates, playing it “safe”. (And while you say that a transport by ship cannot be deemed safe, I have no doubt that the ship would have made it to LA safe and sound if not for…)
So yeah, the Consortium trusted in the Lion Guard’s honesty and professional attitude, and that backfired… I guess Noll (or whoever decided to not use the Asura Gates) has some explaining to do of himself now.

All the sclerites have been turned into weapon skins. They are now an extinct species – and thus the skins’ rarity.
Hahaha
Okay, so, what would have solved this and tied everything together nicely, is if the Karka Queen would have been purple. Replacing the textures with differently coloured ones would (I imagine) have been a trivial change. Even if it was the same textures, otherwise. I personally think that the dripping and eyes wouldn’t even have been necessary.
That would have been a nice reveal at the end, and made the final boss even a little more “special”.
(That being said, when I first heard of the sclerite weapon tickets, I imagined them to look more like the karkas – a pink (slash green, slash all colours) coral reef sort of look. I would have liked that better than the dark purple drippy textures that seemingly came out of nowhere.)

If I would have known about this, I would have rolled a Sylvari character sooner. Shame that you can’t replay the personal story instances, so I’m going to have to make this one count.

I remember reading or hearing in one of the dev interviews that there were jumping puzzles that had been removed from the game because they weren’t polished in time for launch. Some of them have already been added back in, but I am hoping we’ll see some fun ones in the cities eventually, especially the DR gardens.
Oh, it would be amazing if I could find a source for this. I love jumping puzzles the most, and the prospect of new ones, be it in cities, instances or the open world, makes me all excited. (Although I think the cities need them the most.)

It says in the announcement that Moa Racing will stay, so this IS the original Moa Racing that was planned from the beginning.
I actually don’t mind them introducing content such as mini games, jumping puzzles, mini dungeons, etc. at a slow rate and space things out a bit.
As for Crab Toss and Dragon Ball: as much as I personally didn’t like Crab Toss, I wish it would stay. It is easy to ignore for players who don’t want to play, and enriches the game for players who do. I see nothing to be gained by removing it. And the same for Dragon Ball (most likely).

… yes, making it harder would be good for some and horrible for others. Making it easier would achieve the exact opposite.
However if there was no cap on monthly achievement points, but instead it got exponentially harder to get them, then I believe it would work for everybody.
Please refer to the link I posted above for explanations.

You gotta deal with the bad to appreciate the good.
I’m trying to keep up my cheerful positive attitute as well.
However… I do think it is important to give ANet feedback as to enable them to develop the game into the most popular direction, should they have the funds and care to do so.
(Of course, raging doesn’t help anybody with anything.)

- If you try to get to the Karka Queen event, don’t go through the Driftglass settlement as it is full of karkas. Run from Captain’s Retreat instead.

We’re aware that people want new armor skins. I want new ones as well, and we’re working on things. Armor skins are much more time/resource consuming and difficult as opposed to weapons.
Tribal skin worn by Alastia Crow and in the PvP locker is not available for players. THAT skin fits a tiki/island theme perfectly and would save work making that available to players. Why wasn’t this done?
That’s a pretty good idea, actually.

My views on the recent update…
- In-Game Letter
I got the in-game announcement – this is a great way of getting players to involve themselves in new content, especially when that works with “last night’s patch”.
- Holding four settlements
Slightly confusing. Apparently Kiel’s Outpost counts as a settlement, while Pearl Islet doesn’t (and is never under attack). However, later Kiel’s was under attack by crazed wildlife but the meta-event indicator still said that all four settlements were under player control. Still not sure how this is supposed to work.
- Issue with disconnects
I was in the unlucky position that today my client got dc’ed a lot. (My boyfriend, who plays on the same network, didn’t have these issues.) I realise that this is my own problem and it doesn’t have anything to do with the living story update. I’m bringing this up because each time I got back into the game, I was put in overflow, where I was immediately swarmed and killed by crazed wildlife, while the rest of my party was still on the server that already fought or held the settlements. Then I had to wait for someone to revive me before the “join” option became available, or waypoint to a non-contested waypoint, then “join”, and fight my way back on my own.
How to fix this:
This is obviously not something that is under the control of the living story team, but maybe you can pass this on: When I enter the game and I’m still part of the party, PLEASE spawn me on my party’s server.
- Karka Queen fight
It was pretty busy over there so I didn’t actually see the Karka Queen until just before she died (culling issues). So if there was anything special to this fight (special attacks or whatever else) I will have to find out later. (I just heard that there were karka eggs? Didn’t see them. Or players. Or the chest. Only an ocean of particle effects.)
- Rewards
I think 1 rare item (same as the other world bosses) would have been good enough.
- Special Merchant Items
Armour: I don’t think I’ll be buying anything from the merchant myself; the stats aren’t worth 2g per item to me personally, with or without karka shells.
Weapons: Same… plus I think no one wants the starter weapon skins for anything.
Potions: the only reason for me to get the karka potions would be to farm more karkas… since there’s nothing else for me to get with karka shells, I have no incentive to go back to farming them. It just sort of fizzles out right there.
Special items: I knew that there weren’t going to be any from reading forums, so I didn’t end up disappointed, but I could tell that many people in /map were. If there would have been even a single item (karka shell shoulder pads that are the same in light/medium/heavy) for a ridiculous number of karka shells, then people would have had something to focus their attention on. (It would also have made the karka potions somewhat useful).
- That feeling of not getting a reward when in fact I did
I already got 2 sweet backpack skins and several titles to show – but I got them all early on. It’s a little like getting paid for work on the first of the month and then not wanting to go back into work, because there’s suddenly no reward at the other end of this.
How to fix this
Hand out the special skins (and possibly titles) to players at the end of the event (like the Molten gauntlets), no matter whether they reach the required number of achievements early or not.
- Karka Queen Achievement
Didn’t get it, but I hear the bug is being worked on. After other achievements were already bugged in the last few days (is this related?) I heard some people say that they saw this coming. This leaves a bad impression, but as long as it is sorted out and people get their achievements later, it’s good enough for me.
- Epilogue with Ellen Kiel
Slightly disappointed that I couldn’t do this instance together with my boyfriend (we usually do our personal story ones together). The instance itself was okay.
At the end, there seemed to be a sound problem; Captain Magnus’ voice was only half the volume of Ellen Kiel’s.
All in all, the new content didn’t blow me out of the water, and it didn’t make me angry either. (Just the overflow issue spoiled the fun for me today.)
It would have been nice to walk away from this with a greater feeling of accomplishment; better timing of the existing achievements and rewards would have fixed this for me.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
There were people in /map who did the event along with my boyfriend and myself, they said they got the achievement, but neither of us did. It seemed to be 50/50.
(TC, first occurrence of Karka Queen, regular server / no overflow)

Moa Racing is coming, June 11!

Also Dragon Ball, which sounds (more or less) like another variant on Crab Toss / Keg Brawl. We’ll see

I’m sorry to hear that. That’s happened to me before, too. Not in guild wars – but with the system set up the way it is, there’s no way currently you can protect yourself efficiently.
I really, really, really wish this was addressed.

I’ll throw in a few potions and such.
August 5 is so far in the future though!
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Okay, so here’s how I would “rank” them, just based on impression playing GW2. (I’ve only done 3 out of the 5 racial explorer stories so far, though.)
1. Kodan + player races (+ Tengu + Largos)
2. Quaggan + Hylek
3. Skritt
4. Krait
5. Ogres + Grawl
Tengu and Largos in brackets because I haven’t seen enough of them to rank them adequately; I’ve seen hints that they are sophisticated cultures but I couldn’t put them into any sort order right now.
I find it’s a shame that the Krait are reduced to 100% villains who are aggressive ALL the time, as this sort of denies us as players and insights into their culture. From what I’ve seen, I wouldn’t place them above Quaggans or Hylek, or even the Skritt. There may be more to them, but there’s currently no player access to that sort of experience.

Or the two spots use different methods of rounding.
i.e. for the one on the left side, 99.6 % is rounded up to 100% (which is in accordance to math custom), while the one in the dialog box rounds down to the full percentage, indicating that you haven’t yet reached 100%.

That was possible for a short period of time (maybe an hour?); the instance became accessible to players by accident before the patch went live.

Under these circumstances, will the deadline for the Crab Toss achievements be extended?
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Yes, I think most players are aware of this concept. However, I fully support a “slot” for minis for other reasons as well.
- Whenever I leave a zone, my mini is stowed, and I need to double click it again. This is really annoying and half the time I forget. Running with a mini becomes more effort than it is worth. (Main reason)
- My mini takes up space in the inventory, unlike the weapons I wield or armour I wear. This doesn’t make any particular sense when I see the mini run after me, clearly not being in any of the bags at the time.
(Minor reason)

First people complained ArenaNet had the audacity to finalize a storyline with a 5-man story dungeon.
Now they complain ArenaNet has the audacity to do something you need to do on your own.
Sigh
Remember how everybody complained about the Rox and Braham instances, and how they gave players the choice to solo or group up?
Me neither
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
To make this clear: Ability to enjoy content solo = good. Ability to enjoy content in a group = good. Losing the ability to do either = not good. You have the ability to dynamically scale difficulty based on the number of players present and thus support anything from solo play to full groups and all the iterations in between, so can you please make use of it?

Define what wouldn’t count as “main races” – because I’d say the races like kodan, krait, largos, and tengu all surpass the outright called “minor races” (skritt, ogre, hylek, grawl, quaggan), and except for the jotun’s fall are still beneath the “elder races” (jotun, mursaat, seer, forgotten, dwarf).
I don’t understand how the krait are one of the “main races” – is this something from GW1? My impression as of right now is that the Hylek have more culture going on by far.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I’m not sure that the majority of the Ascalonian ghosts are even fully aware of what they’re doing. Judging by many of the ambient conversations I’ve heard from ghosts, most of them seem to be trapped in a bizarre state between life and death where they constantly relive the events of the past. There was a pair of Ascalonian ghostly peasants in Plains of Ashford who are talking about the Charr invasion getting closer, and when you approach, they scream about Charr and run, but they don’t attack unless you chase and corner them.
Then there’s also NPCs like Captain Calhaan in the same map who seem to be reliving the events of the past over and over (talking about the Great Wall mission in GW1). These lead me to believe that, with the exception of more powerful ghosts like Adelbern, most of these ghosts can’t even tell what’s really happening. They’re a tragic part of history, locked in the past and unable to escape it even as the world moves on without them. That was Adelbern’s greatest crime; forcing this on his own people because of his refusal to admit defeat.
That’s what I meant earlier, you described it better than I could have ^^

Whether you craft it yourself or buy it: this tonic is super expensive. It should be worthwhile for players in as many ways as possible. I fully support costume brawl options for this tonic.
However, since it is an infinite tonic, I feel the costume brawl skills should be a little weaker than other tonics’.

I would like to see the posts from the GW2 website fed into the “My Story” tab. It can show a red " ! " when there is a new story entry like when you level and have a new trait point to use.
Each update that has story posts can have the content thrown into the “My Story” tab. We click on each event as a form of a drop down. I guess it works a lot like the wiki, but this is just another alternative of displaying information.
Attached an example I created real quick in Photoshop.
You can probably add those images as event tabs in achievements too to create some visuals.

Ascalonians aren’t evil. Their ghosts are just a bit crazy because adleburn condemned them to protect ascalon in their death…
It isn’t that they’re evil, just that they’re too dangerous and run the risk of killing living people if they aren’t taken care of, they are after all ghosts – they deserve to go into the afterlife in the mists or whatever it is ghosts are meant to do.
This would have been my reply as well.
I don’t see the Ascalonian ghosts as evil, but instead as confused and dangerous. They died during the war and now they are forever preserved in the state they died in, incapable of changing opinions or taking on other viewpoints or ever making peace with anything or anybody. They’re no longer persons capable of independent thought, they’re shadows / reflections / echoes of persons who are long dead. And that’s why you can’t reason with them.
As for the grawl being an intelligent race – that’s debatable, I think they come across as intelligent because for some bizarre reason Anet thought it was ok to have people do their voice acting and not edit the vocals in any way..
That’s always struck me as odd, especially after playing the personal story chapter that deals with the Grawl. They’re depicted as simple minds, but at the same time capable of complex speech. Not sure what to make of this, as for me, complex speech always indicates complex thought processes, but maybe the Grawl are just special in the way that they do one without doing the other.

Isn’t there a cap on how many laurels you can hold at a time?
I bought an ascended amulet and dumped a few laurels into dye kits -_- … Also contemplating the minis.
(Sidenote on ascended gear: It looks like you can’t get anti-agony gear with laurels anyway, so if I want anything that helps with fractals I will have to earn them through running fractals.)
I don’t feel I need to hoard the laurels – I can always get new ones if/when they release new items.

I would like to be able to save certain colour combinations and easily switch between them. I’ve been re-dying my armour so much and with all the dyes I have, it’s become some work to go back and forth between the designs. You can’t select enough “favourites” to support this, currently.
