Hey folks,
While we do have the ability to turn some types of content on and off dynamically, the text for achievements are not one of those things. Unfortunately, this means if we have content that turns on before our next release, the achievement text will have to be available on patch day.
Many players require a bit of direction and context and we have found that the achievement text is a useful way for us to direct them. While there is a big downside of presenting some spoilers, we are working hard to frame the text so as to not spoil the actual events that will be happening over the next two weeks.
I will say that unlike the southsun achievements, all of the achievements in the dragon bash category will be accomplishable before our next release (hotfixes don’t count :p).
Thank you for the explanation, that makes sense.
I admit that after what Bobby said in this thread, I was hoping there weren’t going to be any more spoilers in the achievement list. I really try to avoid them as I want to play the Living World events for the story.
Bobby Stein:There are various bits of story spread throughout the Southsun Cove content. Some are in idle scenes, whereas others are nestled in journals, conversations, or achievement lists (which, due to a bug, did not obscure later events and revealed some spoilers ahead of time).

The 8 bit boxes “worked” and the sonic devices “worked” – the holo-emitters don’t.
You could take the holograms in either direction: simply buff them up (8-bit mobs) or make each one farmable only once a day, and/or have them spawn events (sonic devices); but something should be done.
I think #1 is more likely, easier to implement, and sufficient.

Yes, many people. There are a number of threads about it here and in the bugs subforum.

Just think Pixel that was in ONE DAY of the month long event. Is it really so hard to imagine getting a ticket with that many chances?
I can imagine quite a lot, but in your own example you said “100 coffers a day” – that would be 3000 coffers a month. It has since been shown by players who go a lot further that 3000 coffers by no means guarantee a ticket drop.
So, yeah, we might all walk away with weapon tickets, or we might not. The numbers I’ve seen so far though suggest that your optimism is premature.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Not only are the skins really nice this time around but they are pretty common to get. Without a ton of farming you can easily get 100 coffers in a single day and the event goes for a month.
Many of us easily got our 100, or 200, or even 2500 coffers yesterday (that is already almost an entire month’s worth of 100-coffer-batches), … but no weapon skin tickets. The coffers themselves dropping frequently does by no means mean that it is suddenly easy (let alone guaranteed) to get a ticket…

All the arguments brought up here for AND against rosters also apply to sPvP.
In sPvP we do have rosters.

Do you have a favourite moa racer? If so, who is it? Or do you rotate through them? Or pick one randomly?
I’ve been placing bets on all of them, but my favourite is Mortt. I just love the colours.
My boyfriend likes to place bets on the mystery moa, but I don’t know wether he has a favourite among them.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
well they did announce that a new build would be available, if you place your bet during that time, then it’s your fault. sorry.
Who said that the OP was disconnected to the new build?
I get frequent DCs when my internet connection randomly drops.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
There were 4 of us camping 2 spawns last night. With lvl 1 white swords as it was the only way for all 4 of us to tag them . After some time, in comes random guy. We ask him politely to use a white lvl 1 weapon because they die too fast. He ignores us and proceeds to kill when we activated. needless to say, only 1 of us managed to tag 1, the rest nothing. We move to next spawn – he follows. We ask him again to change his weapons. Again he ignores us. One of our guys is starting to get to the edge of reason and so instead of starting a brawl out came the exotics, stability and activate. I tagged 2, the other members of my team fared similarly. We did that for one more spawn, then the guy gave up and left. We switched back to our white lvl 11h swords.
So I guess theoretically we “won” the KS war. But having to fight it, I found very distasteful. This is the first time I had to purposively KS in GW2 and I did not like it. This thing really needs to be changed asap.PS: Stability works.
This can’t be the intended way things go. o_o
I think the holograms just forget to scale up.
I do hope that this will be looked into.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
No, you don’t. It says in the instructions that you will auto-forfeit if you leave the Moa racing area. I guess disconnects count as being “away”.
WHY it was implemented this way, I don’t know – it is in direct contradiction to how other events in Tyria work. Especially as you get the reward by mail.
So no, there’s sadly nothing you can do about it. (I lost some money the same way last night.)
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Aetherblade? Is that something from GW1?
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
It may be worth pointing out that all levels can’t perhaps reasonably afford the 50 Silver cost that’s been slapped on bets for the Moa Racing activity. That part of the event seems a bit more tailored to the rich/higher levels.
That’s a very good point that people tend to forget. After the first level 80 you can always send some pocket money to your alts, but new players don’t have that sort of bank account.
I know 1 gold was a LOT of money for me for a long time.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
At least it was acknowledged.
Out of the two alternatives
- Leave Crab Toss arena open for now
- Take some time fixing bugs and release Crab Toss 2.0 later
I think going with number 2 isn’t the end of the world.
This might also give ANet the chance to change stuff around based on player feedback or even implement new features, such as roster/play against friends.
I’d be pretty happy if Crab Toss 2.0 happened this way (whether or not I personally play it) and maybe then it’ll be polished enough for ANet to decide to make it a permanent addition to Tyria.
:)

I’m sure it’ll get fixed soon.

You have Personal Story as a Daily Option and more people will have that done than map completion. It is still just one option of atm 11. 3-5 hearts seem ok. Maybe add “Watch X vistas?”
Very good point.
I also just considered you could merge dailies “complete 4 events or 4 hearts”. It would sync nicely and you may even kill 2 birds with one stone.
That is a good point on the surface, however, most people with alts (as far as I know) complete the personal story only on one character, as it becomes the same for everyone in later levels. They complete the personal stories on the alts only to the point where the character gets sent into Orr with Trahearne. So that leaves a lot of personal story instances on alts to be used for dailies later.
Secondly, you can take part in somebody else’s personal story, but you cannot “guest” on somebody else’s hearts.
Thirdly, there is already synergetic effects with other dailies: daily kills, kill variety, aquatic kills, kills in Maguuma/Kryta/Ascalon/Shiverpeaks are all dailies that you will advance in while doing appropriate hearts.
All that being said, I personally don’t care if hearts are added to dailies – there’s enough variety in there to always offer at least 5 doable tasks for everyone, even if you disregard WvW, Dungeons and Minigames completely. Adding hearts won’t do any harm. The number of players with world-completion-maxed characters on all available slots is very low, and chances are high that these are the very players who will just do WvW/Dungeon run/etc. instead with ease.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I am almost sure you don’t have to do the killing blow, just tag them.
I have to look into it again today after work. Last night thoug, I killed holograms together with my boyfriend, and we got 4-5 kills out of those combined (with only us two there). If you only had to tag them, we would have gotten more than 5 kills combined, especially as I mainly do condition damage and probably didn’t one-hit-kill any of them.
On other occasions, I know for sure I did damage to them (little white numbers…) and did not get kill credit. There’s a chance that I simply didn’t do enough damage, but as a fully traited level 80 (even as a condineer) I don’t see that as very likely.
I’ll go and test it later, if I can find any non-camped holo-emitters. I hope I’m wrong!
They hit equal-level characters plenty hard, I’ve been bouncing around Kessex with a mesmer in the late 20s and the destroyers especially can be pretty brutal.
Then they should really scale up accordingly. I don’t know how hard they hit, or whether they have any special attacks, as not a single one of them ever got to hit me. They went down too fast to even land their first blow. (Topic title) Not. a. single. one.

It’s kind of fun (the first few rounds anyway) to run after the moas. I imagine the characters cheering for them, goading them and flailing their arms.
But I agree, being turned into a Moa and racing myself would have been fun, too. Maybe something like this could be added as a separate feature in the future…
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
This has come up as feedback on several occasions (Rox’ quiver, for instance). I remember reading a response from one of the ANet staff that they were working on finding ways to place back items on characters more smoothly.
I can’t find the post now, sadly, so I can’t tell you what was said exactly. Maybe somebody else remembers.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Also, get rid of the KD on activation. If there are lots of people around the projector, the person who activates it is unlikely to get any kill credits as the holograms will be dead before they recover from the knockdown.
This ^ is why I gave up on the holo-emitters last night.
At first I didn’t understand why there was a mob of 15+ players standing around a hologram without activating it. I thought they were waiting for more people, giving other players the chance to run up. Now I know, they were just shuffling in awkward silance, trying to not be that person.
Edit: I’m also seeing suspiciously bot-like behaviour from a lot of players. They’re appearing right next to projectors just before they reset, killing the holograms then disappearing again.
Has the API for timing these things been released? That’s the only way I can see these people are able to do this so accurately.
That would be bad…

Quick summary:
-About 64 gold was spent on 1000 dragon coffers, bought at 6s 42c each.
-An average of 2 zhaitaffy was obtained per chest
-No weapon tickets were obtainedI have video of me opening the 1000 chests, if you are interested.
Well, the numbers are very disheartening.
After reading about how ANet wanted players to be able to gein tickets in different ways, I really thought that this time I might have a chance.
Yesterday, I logged on to GW2 right after work and played until 3 am. No ticket; now I know why. Now I also know that there’s little point in spending that amount of spare time trying. Maybe I also should have taken a hint when I didn’t meet a single person with a jade weapon anywhere in GW2 last night, despite the very frequent coffer drops.
So, I don’t know, if this was supposed to make it “a lot easier” to get a weapon skin, or offer alternative ways: I don’t think it’s working.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I agree that the holograms die way too fast. Compare them to the bunnies and monkeys from the 8bit PvE chests, who were a good deal more dangerous – dealt actual damage and stayed up longer. In addition, the baubles they dropped were for anybody to pick up, giving people more time to get involved / less of a rush / more team work.
The holograms drop loot for everyone who manages to tag them before they die,, but in order to get the achievement you have to deliver the killing blow (as far as I could tell last night) so if there’s more than one player at the node, everybody is in competition and you’re likely to walk away without your achievement cpunter going up at all.
The other problem with the low hit points is that by the time my character gets up from the ground after the initial knock down, half the time another player has already one-hit-killed them.. and I walk away without loot, too.
Summary:
- holograms should not be killed in 1 hit. Give them more hp, scale them up to number of players if needed.
- give them special attacks that make them a little bit of a challenge, maybe even to encourage teamwork (see 8bit mobs, sonic devices)
- every kill should contribute to the achievement (like in slayer achievement), not just killing blows (like in weapon mastery achievements)

I’m thinking centaurs or an earth ele. They’re not going to give us a full dragon for free.
A dragon turning up != fighting a Dragon.
We actually KNOW that a Dragon is waking up (based on Arah Explorable) so it is fully possible that they will actually show us the actual awakening and/or set the stage for it.
I am very excited now.

The Rich Dragon Coffer is now available in the Consumable category of the Gem Store for 100 gems each, or 5 for 400 gems and 25 for 2,000 gems. This special festival box always contains Dragon Bash candy and also has a chance to contain fireworks, a Mini Holographic Risen Knight, and rarely a Dragon’s Jade Weapon Skin Ticket.
Thanks.. thanks a lot.
Yes. But this page http://www.guildwars2hub.com/media/gallery/dragons-jade-weapon-gallery says,
Luckily these tickets can be acquired relatively frequently from the various Dragon Coffers that drop
So in summary, the drop chances are:
- Rich coffer: “rare” (Source)
- Drop coffer: “relatively frequently”(Source)
And - More rarely in drop coffers than rich coffers (Source)
The more is posted on the skin chances the more confusing it gets. So… how about releasing some actual numbers?
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I love the jade skins. LOVE them.
Few things I would have done differently:
- I wish teh pistol and rifle handles were jade.
- I wish the sword was slimmer, or just a curved jade blade, without the zigzag.
Other than that, they’re simply amazing. It is hard to pick any favourites, although I think the axe and the shield are all the way up there.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
If they improved the chances of the store-bough coffers dropping weapon skin tickets… I will need to see some numbers before I buy anything.
I really fancy the jade weapon skins, and I understand getting them from drops isn’t likely.

As for Southsun, it is admittedly a small map – and wouldn’t need 8-10 hearts, just a few. Some of the stuff I’ve been doing in Southsun already feels somewhat heart-like… examples:
- Sand pit heart: Assist Advisor Zakk
Find golem parts, kill mosquitos (for when the quest isn’t up) (but when is it ever not up) - Research camp heart: Assist Researcher Levvi
Ping local flora (additional flowers can be added to the area for this)
Protect the area around the camp from karka - Owain’s refuge heart: Assist Owain
Kill karka
Gather karka eggs (when quest is up) (all the time)
Collect some spice from local bushes - Non-combat activity at Captain’s Retreat
The tourist beach needs some sort of activity (I imagine Faren and Kasmeer leaving) – maybe serving drinks to tourists, as a change from the “kill this, gather that” type of heart activities.
As for vistas, so many amazing spots are out there – from individual vents in the driftglass area to cliffsides to some of the higher-up straw huts. I like climbing onto things so I think I’ve already climbed a lot of the cliffs just to be able to look down.

Somebody claimed that they read that Crab Toss would stay and listed the patch notes as their source, but the patch notes don’t say anything to this effect, so don’t know.
I think extending the deadline would be the least ANet can do for players who couldn’t get the achievements, but I’d be happy for Crab Toss to stay. I don’t see what’s to be gained by removing it.

Yes, sorry, mine will be human as well. Main comes first
… but some of my alts are other classes so I might queue up again when they’re a high enough level for me to know that I’ll keep them. I’m thinking of my Charr in particular, who I think is beautiful, but I’m the only one who thinks so. :-x … We’ll see.

Hah, excellent! As for the resolution, the bigger the better as it leaves me the most options, but I don’t want to create any additional stress on you, so whatever you feel comfortable working with – you’re the one doing all the work.
As for the mini, he loves his super beedog (it looks so kitten with his tongue out: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/0/05/Miniature_Super_Bee_Dog.jpg). I wouldn’t mind paying extra for the mini as it is clearly more work to draw than a piece of equipment, in some cases probably on par with an additional face. Just let us know what you feel would be fair to compensate you for any additional time spent drawing.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Question,
what resolution do you drawn them in? Is it enough so I can use my portrait as desktop background, for example, or even print them? I’d definitely want to do the former, my boyfriend brought up the latter as an idea.
Second question,
(boyfriend again) what’s the surcharge for the portrait to include a mini?
PS: I love Jade’s portrait even more. Excellent work.

Moa racing, we cant do any racing ourselves in this mini game right? I think I read it was just for betting on who would win, or did I misread?
Info about Moa Racing:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/lwd/50-Silver-for-Moa-Racing
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I think the point of mini-games is (or should be) to give people something to do, casually, in between their “more serious” activities. As such I feel it should be free or very, very cheap.
50 silver isn’t the kind of money that I throw at activities just because I’m bored or want a change of scenery.
That being said, when you don’t want to win the Moa and you can sell back your tokens and it is “only” 6 silver per game, then, well, it’s immediately less bad. But I still feel it’s expensive entertainment, in the context of Keg Brawl being free, and Crab Toss even making you some money.
Hmm hmm.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
What I meant was that there should be a band (or several) playing that song, and the song would play once every 10 minutes or so and only be audible in the direct vicinity (same as sound effects from fireworks and such). The bands could be spread out across taverns, or if it’s only one of them it could stand in a central place.
So should you feel the need to stand around in LA for an hour or longer you would be able to place your character in a quiet corner, but other players who pass by one of the bands would happen upon the song and be drawn into the events this way.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I picked engineer as my first and main character because the class felt the most “me”.
I traditionally play dedicated ranged combat classes and ranger would have been the most typical choice for me… but I also tend to go for the non-magical classes first.
I didn’t pick engi because it was the most complex class or the least played or whatever… I just found it the most interesting.
Also, I have a thing for explosives.
:)
Since, I’ve started a few other character – guardian, mesmer, elementalis – but I feel most comfortable playing my engineer.
