And I +1 it each time.

So what legendary(s) are you going for?
Frenzy, because:
- I want a legendary for my main who is an engi so I’m sort of very limited in my choices; I don’t like the looks of quip or the predator, and I don’t use shields.
- Who would be so stupid to invest all that effort in an underwater legendary? Not many. So: the precursor won’t cost me an arm and a leg. (38 gold)
- I’ve got enough hipster in me to get a kick out of going for the underdog.
- One day in the future, new and better underwater content will come.
- But most importantly, I actually like the look and effect. I love the fishies.
How close are you to your goal?
Not very, been casualling it. I’m not actively working towards it, outside of very slowly collecting ingredients as I happen upon them. I might never get it.
Bolt or Incinerator? (Just help me out here K?)
Depends on your playstyle and character’s preferred style of clothing, and such.
I personally like Bolt better.
How has your day been going?
Procrastinating.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Either way, I think this needs looking into.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
To me, the easiest are:
- Pearl Islet (Southsun Cove) short
- Sleive’s Inlet (Caledon Forest) easy jumps, no pressure
- Shaman’s Rookery (Wayfarer Foothill) as long as you avoid the ravens, super easy
- King Jalis’ Refuge (Snowden Drifts) it has like 6 jumps in total
- Vizier’s tower (Straits of Devastation) once you figure out how to start it, the rest is cake.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I feel the dailies are easy enough. There’s always 5 in there that I can get with little effort, 2 more with additional effort, and then dungeons, fractals, WvW etc.
I use it as a rough inspiration for where to go for the day and I like that my direction differs from day to day.
If I could pick my own 5 “easiest” dailies, I’d end up doing exactly the same every day.

As we’ve seen a few messages from players saying they didn’t get the achievement even after watching the fireworks, here are some useful information:
- your character needs to be in the following zones in Lion’s Arch: Gate Hub Plaza (around the Asura portals), the Grand Piazza (next to the Dragon holoprojector) or the Mystic Plaza (next to the Mystic Forge)
This wasn’t clear to me. In fact, I spent quite some time looking for the best place to watch the fireworks from for my partner and myself – and I favoured elevated and private places. Up on bridges, out on the opposite shore, etc.
We happened to be at central plaza when the fireworks happened, but that was largely by accident. If I’d had my way, we would’ve been up some romantic pic-nic spot on a cliff – probably with a better view, but without the achievement.

Should come as no surprise – I endorse this.
I personally haven’t missed anything so far, but I would have loved to be able to brush up my memory on Lost Shores (I had absolutely no recollection of Canach or Kiel… oh, my memory.)

I would have made sure that every single weapon skin has some jade in it – for example, I would have given the pistol a jade handle.

I took some time looking for pinatas, getting LA map completion with my alt and doing some crafting and bank tab reorganisation.
Many people seem to sit around in LA and /map chat for hours on end anyway. I don’t see the problem.
Fireworks in bright daylight would have been silly anyway.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
The event itself is tied to the ingame time and will happen at dawn (ingame). So your fireworks might not have happened yet, as it is not dawn ingame.
Why dawn? I guess most people would expect a firework to happen at dusk.
It makes total sense to me that the fireworks take place at dawn.
This way, when you’re adventuring anywhere in Tyria, and night falls, you know that you have 35 minutes to get your kitten to LA.
If the fireworks happened at dusk, there would be a 70 minute daytime window to cover.
This way it is much easier to time, without having to sit in LA for over an hour.
I think that was pretty thoughtful of the devs.

What do you like best about Dragon Bash so far? My favourites are:
- The tiny paper dragons coming out of the pinatas – awesome animation. They are so cute and I keep bashing pinatas just so I can watch them.
- I’m just back from the firework display and I rather liked it. It was exactly what I expected, nothing out of the ordinary, but come on, those Quaggan and golem fireworks were pretty sweet! I wish my stack of regular fireworks did Quaggans and golems. I also liked the finale with the class icons.
- With the jade flintlock, finally finally there’s a pistol skin in game that I actually like. I’m really not a fan of most of the other pistol skins, and for a pistol/pistol engi that is somewhat sad. Now I have something to work towards and admire, because it looks awesome. I’m not even one of the dragon fetishists, I just think all the jade weapons look really cool, and I particularly love the colours. I’d probably deck out most my characters with jade weapons if I could

You could also just adventure anywhere in Tyria and then waypoint into LA upon nightfall.

You only need a few people playing keg brawl or crab toss at any given time – people on a keg brawl team don’t care whether there is 5 or 50 or 500 simultaneous instances of keg brawl. Secondly, the games are instanced, so the players don’t even have to live on the same home server. That is a handful of players across all servers, per mini-game.
GW2 has a player base of how many hundreds of thousands? How many thousands of players are online at any given time?
If it works for dungeons, I don’t see how keg brawl or crab toss would “starve the population”.

I think it would help if the forum software supported a few more options.
- if players could close/lock their own threads when their issue is resolved or an actual bug has been fixed, and/or if players could flag a thread as “resolved” for a mod to close them
- if players had a way to suggest a merge of threads, which mods could then merge with just one click
- if upon thread creation the forum searched for similar titles or threads and asked the player whether any of the returned threads cover their issue
All three changes would take some “weight” off the bug report subforum without additional mods patroling them 24/7.

I don’t think anybody has an official answer to this right now.
I assume however that other pickaxes will be made available in the future. A fair chance for new players to get the equipment, and a chance for old players to get tools for their alts, and all around more money for ANet.

Maybe they forgot to put the high-res textures in ^^
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
That’s weird, on my machine during preview, the Jade skins have higher detail than anything I’ve seen in the game to date.
Hmm, do you have high-res textures turned on in your settings?
Maybe it’s just that.
(I can’t test it, not been so lucky)

I had the same problem in Southsun – I lost my settler’s bugg every time I DC’ed (often) or joined my friends in a different overflow. I could always get the buff back (and it was free and a nice bonus anyway) but only if I ran to a settlement and back, so in some cases when I was on the other side of the map, that just wasn’t an option for me and I went un-buffed for a while. I wasn’t super impressed by the implementation, but it wasn’t the end of the world either.
When half a gold is involved, however, it’s different, and I certainly would have taken this into account when implementing the Moa Racing mechanics.

I don’t understand the expectation that any dynamic events should be geared towards solo players. These fights aren’t instanced, they’re open world with plenty of people running around (which made it impossible for some players to even tag the guys before they went down before).
I mean, if you want to solo some events, go right ahead. I’ve soloed some holographics nodes without any problems, too. But I don’t feel entitled to some sort of special treatment and I don’t understand why other players would.

It’s random.
I totaled them up because I like numbers, not because I believed I would find anything in here. As long as it is 100% random and there isn’t any sort of strategy that a player can apply to get an edge, it is the money sink that we all think ANet is trying to give us. As soon as there is a way to better your chances, this way will end up on the wiki, all the players are going to start betting on the same moa, and the whole thing doesn’t work as a money sink anymore (on the contrary). The question isn’t so much whether there is a pattern, but more why would ANet do such a thing?
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
The flapping is beautiful, just too fast for my taste.
I would prefer more understated once-in-a-while animation; less hectic, more majestic.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I’m also waiting for this
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I would like to know two things:
- If you place a bet and then leave the zone, fair enough. I don’t really understand how that would keep Tigg from sending you a letter, but meh. But when you’re back in the event area by the time the event finishes, you should get credit… not so that people can port in and out of the event – the races aren’t long enough to make it worthwile to sit through several loading screens anyway. But it would allow someone to get back in after a disconnect.
- Other dynamic events reward you even when you walk away, so why the change? What is the reason behind this decision?
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
The change is a good one. I don’t believe for a second that it was intended for players to 1-hit kill 4-5 foes (solo!) the second they come up. Theh they could just as well have made them pinatas to whack.
5 holograms should be the same difficulty as five skelk in the same zone, or 5 bandits, or even deer (if not slightly more of a challenge, imho) but they simply weren’t.

Reading the above makes me wonder whether there is just one set of race animations. So: can you tell from the position of each moa in the line-up (from left to right) who’s going to win the race?
I will observe this for a bit next time I have time to play.
I am almost certain that this is the case, I just don’t know the specific pattern yet cause they don’t stay in the line up long enough.
I watched them for a bit tonight and I’m pretty sure I can disconfirm this. It seems that any starting position can produce a winner. Confusing.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
There’s no waves, and no lucky or unlucky streaks. A specific moa might win or lose 3 races in a row, that doesn’t mean that it is more likely or less likely than any other moa to win race number 4.
When you flip a coin, and you get heads 3 times in a row (or 10… or whatever), then upon the next throw the chance to get heads again is still 50%.
The Gambler’s fallacy, also known as the Monte Carlo fallacy (because its most famous example happened in a Monte Carlo Casino in 191312), and also referred to as the fallacy of the maturity of chances, is the belief that if deviations from expected behaviour are observed in repeated independent trials of some random process, future deviations in the opposite direction are then more likely.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gambler's_fallacy
So, unless ANet are trolling us with some secret algorithm which I doubt, then it doesn’t matter whether you pick one and stick with it or whether you switch every time or any other combination of the two.
Why do I doubt that there is a secret strategy to be worked out? Because ANet knows that if there was a way to get an edge on the odds, every single player would start betting on the same moa (per match) and suddenly it wouldn’t be a money sink anymore. Now why would they do that? Why wouldn’t they implement it in a way that simply randomizes the winning moa, guaranteeing that players will make a steady loss the more they play?

On the first day of the event, I got achievement credit only for winning (I won once, and playced 2nd and 3rd place several times) but yesterday I got credit for a #3 AND another #1 placement (and thus finished the achievement).
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Meep’s defninitely not an underdog, then
Regarding the black moa winning a lot of races, I was under a similar impression. Maybe there’s more to the mystery moas after all.
Has anybody seen Muggo win, ever?
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I have to revise my earlier statement – you can indeed get credit for a #2 or #3 placing; it’s just that I didn’t get credit for most of these on the first day. So I guess that’s just the bug of no credit given, regardless of the placing.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
The thing is that the mob health balance is pretty much spot on … if you are fighting them in a level-appropriate zone. So what is needed is either a radical improvement to character downscaling or some kind of effective disincentive for high level characters to farm holos in low level areas.
The problem is not just the downscaling of players. It is also that the mobs don’t seem to take into account how many players (of any level) are present. So it doesn’t seem to matter where I go with my level 80 (please take into account that Orr doesn’t have holo-emitters…) – A) my gear is always overpowered and B) as soon as there’s more than 1 player it becomes an affair of seconds. And this is true for all the nodes I picked up on the way to my achievement, in various zones of different levels. As a general rule, the random normal mobs spawning around the holograms and harder to kill and do more damage.

I’ve been looking for “adorably plump” body types for my female characters on all races – but they’re all stick-thin to me. I wanted my engineer to be at least a little chubby The differences between the existing body types are noticeable only during character creation, when you can compare them directly, but are far too subtle – in game, every body starts to look the same…

Three hours later: this
Hey, everyone: we understand your frustration with the achievements not working for Crab Toss and we apologize that you’re not able to earn those achievements. Although Crab Toss will be removed when the Dragon Bash update goes live, we are working on ways to make this activity available again in the future, and you will have the opportunity to earn or complete those achievements again. We don’t have an estimate on when this will happen, but we will be working on fixing the issues with the achievements and on making Crab Toss available again in the future.

- Business decision:
Making temporary content allows ANet to draw players into GW2 regularly, thus creating a larger potential customer base for their gem store.
ANet: declares content as temporary —> leads to
Player: “If I want to play this, I have to do it now.” —> leads to
ANet: “Here’s some limited time items as well.” —> leads to
Player: “Better get them while I can.”
- In-game justification:
What Shmee said.
- Quality reasons:
If temporary content is buggy, you can wait it out; if permanent content is buggy, you have to address the bugs some time. Making content temporary allows ANet to try out some ideas, see if they’re working (technically as well as mechanics), then spend some time polishing things and potentially re-releasing new and better versions.
Really not sure if #3 is a thing, but I feel it should be.
Please note that #1 is not a criticism, I see this (in principle) as a totally valid strategy that both ANet and players benfit from.
