LOL, just read ‘harassment’ by bouncing around on you, haha, made my day. Dude, seriously?

Honestly, it’s a game, get a thick skin man. Unfortunately, it’s quite common. Usually, that’s some under 20 year olds with a kittenload of testosterone, short temper and they don’t understand what they do. Just tell them to kitten off and put them on ignore list.

People these days… get depressed when their dog has diarrhea. Guys, the world is tough, you get harassed, people mob you, just hit back. Eventually, you will come back stronger.

Honestly, I don’t care about the personal story. That said: it’s quite common that the main story of most games is easy. Only the ‘end game’ – which admittedly does not exist here – should provide this. Final Fantasies usually were quite easy to finish, only the hard stuff was locked behind side quests. So I don’t get WPs rant. Maybe make it a tad harder, but that’s it. Besides the season 2 story stuff is significantly harder than the personal story.

The second article talks about something we don’t know yet. The “Challenging Group Content” will be hopefully get a detailed article soon.

GW2 needs a new graphics engine!!!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ProtoGunner.4953

I agree that graphic is outdated, anyone who says otherwise never played anything outside of f2p mmos. But its okay..graphic is not everything. Howered when it perform like a crap with outdated graphic and then you see another mmo with even more effects, really beautiful graphic with little nice details you know something is wrong. And that is a bit sad for AAA game.

You’re comparing a game released in 2012 and started being developed in 2007 with a game still in beta and started in 2010.
Btw, if you played Black Desert (that game) you’d know the crazy and ucceptable popping the game has. You should prefer lower graphics than insane ones near you, but lower than gw2 far from you and a freaking bad popping.
Just look at those screenshots and see the downgrade done in not so far graphics.

Max quality with supersample at 1080p:

http://s29.postimg.org/8ildglq6u/gw020.jpg
http://s22.postimg.org/qqznrrsc0/gw021.jpg
http://s29.postimg.org/lt98a4gr9/gw022.jpg

Now tell me again how amazing the graphics are.

That’s because dx9 doesn’t support tessellation, which would bump a lot the quality of stone buildings and walls.
It could also be improved with better textures, but the game already weights +25GB and the new expansion is about 35GB of space. If devs put better textures for all buildings in the game (tons of them), game could easily need +100GB of space.

The game is 3-years old; I expect it to have 2012 graphics, not 2015.

DirectX 11 was released in 2009. I expect a 2012 game (Guild Wars 2) to have at least 2012 graphics :p

There are many DX 11 games that were released years earlier than Guild Wars 2. Here is a small selection, including some other MMOs:

Aliens vs. Predator (2010)
Battlefield Bad Company 2 (2010)
Battle Forge (2009)
Civilization V (2010)
Colin McRae: Dirt 2 (2009)
Dungeons and Dragons Online (released 2006, DX11 support added 2010)
Lord of The Rings Online (released 2007, DX 11 support added 2010)
Star Trek Online (released 2010, DX 11 support added 2012)
The Secret World (2012)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_games_with_DirectX_11_support

It’s perfectly possible for a DX 11 game to be backwards-compatible and also support DX 9 and/or DX 10.

DX 10 is not much better than DX 9. but DX 11 features a lot of real improvements such as tessellation.

DX12 is amazing because it drastically reduces the amount of draw calls, but it will only work on Windows 10. Although Microsoft are offering Windows 10 for free to current owners of Windows 7.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/8962/the-directx-12-performance-preview-amd-nvidia-star-swarm
http://www.anandtech.com/show/9112/exploring-dx12-3dmark-api-overhead-feature-test

Gw2 was released in 2012, but started to be developed in 2007. Back then dx10 was just released, but nearly everyone were running XP. Dx11 came years later and the game was way more developed.
Few months before the release devs were thinking about moving to dx11, but they preferred to stay with dx9, as still a lot of people was running the game in XP (which doesn’t even support dx10).

Very strange statements and English… 100 GB…

That ‘pathing’ you described, sorry but that is so super specific… I read the forums almost every day, have played 3’000 hours and started in betas and didn’t know about this. I knew at the beginning thiefs de-aggroed while stealthed – this got nerfed.

How can you NOT know about this if you have played 3000 hours?
I would imagine when you’re stealthed, and you still see mobs following you, you wonder why that happens, and search for a solution, no?
I guess you play PvP, which doesn’t have any mechanics at all

No, you misunderstood me. I know that they follow you during stealth. As I already mentioned, I know that this was a change way back at the beginning. Before that change you lost aggro and got out of combat immediately after stealthing. But what I didn’t know was, if you stand still during stealth the enemies stay there, even if you de aggro and WP to another place? Is that correct? Thought all enemies in dungeons have a leash in GW2?

I haven’t played stealth classes in dungeons though. Maybe a few runs with thief. But also I never did speed clearing, I run mainly rather fast casual runs without any specific group compositions doing most dungeons in the 10-15mins time span.

Don’t compare a 9 year old game’s price with an upcoming expansion.

Why not? Same company, same price. It is entirely justified to compare the value for the same price.

Be cause in a couple years you can buy the addon for 10€ i am sure.

Also you get a ton of updates in the future.

You are not paying for the updates, you are paying for the expansion. Besides, Nightfall also got plenty of updates, including a whole endgame area. So that argument is void.

Inspired Character Names!

ProtoGunner.4953

All of my characters have the name Tyr in them. I got the name from Breath Of Fire 1, it was the main of the end boss at the (which was actually a girl) but years later the changed it to Maria because Tyr was just a bad translation. However ive been using the name for almost 20 years now and almost legally had a name change (yep).

Tyr XIII
Tyr X I I I (tattood on me)

I really hope you know the origin of the name ‘Tyr’ – it’s a norse god.

I always use a first and last name and try to combine them thematically to the character. So for example my Charr Engineer is called “Ratchet Ironwrench”. “Ratchet” for being a fan of the series ratchet and clank and thematically the technophile attitude. “Ironwrench” – well “iron” fits to Charr stuff and “wrench” and engineer… you get the picture ^^

But honestly, I am baffled how many people go down when the electric field shows up or his smash attack, 90% of the people get knocked away and don’t get the right dodging and this after three years. New players aside ofc.

I check sometimes other players. And I am shocked that those ‘1,1,1,1’-ers really exist. I can’t imagine just standing there and doing literally nothing. From this perspective I think it is good, the zerg learns how the mechanics actually work. In the future though, keep those for instanced raid content.

GW2 needs a new graphics engine!!!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ProtoGunner.4953

ProtoGunner.4953

Well, Blizzard updated their graphics a lot. Compare vanilla with now, it’s a huge difference, also they let you choose the renderer; either dx9 or 10 I believe (last time I checked was Cataclysm…).

Anyway, for an MMO, GW2 looks rather good. Though I think they could update a couple of things. Lots of environmental textures have horribly low rez textures and a lot of structures have very low polygon count. Especially in the outer areas of a map. Also, I think they should add a new direct x. Imho using a 10 year old renderer is outdated. They should’ve introduced dx10 from the beginning and have it included during the development of the game engine.

Like the crusader in Diablo 3 or the Paladin in WoW. He should be the one soaking damage. Yeah I know dodging and no trinity blabla. But for kitten’s sake, let him take the damage of others and reduce it. It would be a cool mechanic.

Kicking... Not Just for Dungeons anymore!

in Living World

Posted by: ProtoGunner.4953

ProtoGunner.4953

I first experienced random kicking with the dungeon community upon reaching level 80. Every single time I joined a dungeon group, here’s how it would go, after clicking the group advert, I would place my hands on the keyboard to begin to greet everyone, then I’d see:
Moron no. 1 has voted to kick (my character) out of the group.
Moron no. 2 has voted to kick (my character) out of the group.
Moron no. 3 has voted to kick (my character) out of the group.
(my character) has been kicked out of the group.

Now, I have completely quit dungeons, and when I look for groups doing random things in the open world, even when I make sure the group advert is described as “Doing heart events” or “Join me!” or “Doing Orr events” I’ll click the “join party” button, then as I greet everyone, or as I attempt to great everyone, here’s what happens in the first nanosecond:

Moron no. 1 has voted to kick (my character) out of the group.
Moron no. 2 has voted to kick (my character) out of the group.
Moron no. 3 has voted to kick (my character) out of the group.
(my character) has been kicked out of the group.

This sort of asinine behavior makes everyone in the party look like their I.Q. is somewhere around 70…… and it probably is.

I literally cannot join a single group without witnessing the above behavior, my friends list has only 4 people on it, as the direct result of this behavior 99.9 percent of the time I join a group, I swear I’m not even making this up, it’s like this every time I log in GW2, and attempt to join a group, it’s gotten to the point to where I insult the offending kickers, letting them know they’ve all been blocked.

What the h*ll kind of asinine community is this? Oddly enough, I think it might have something to do with the type of people who would advertise for a group in the first place, they must tend to be idiots.

I’ve played mmos since 1996, and GW2 is the first modern MMO I have played, even DAOC’s community is nowhere near this bad, kicking in that game is still extremely rare. Oh wait, I have played AOC as well, I forgot. anyway, I never got kicked on that game either, the month or so I played it, mainly around Tortage, I grouped with quite a few people there, and never got kicked there either…. so what gives here in GW2? On a side note, I’ve played GW2 off and on since 2013

Maybe it’s on your end? I never get kicked.

Anyway… the outrage is kinda comprehensible especially the lack of a character slot… but I think you are completely forgetting that you won’t just pay 50 for one static expansion. It’s rather a financing of a long term game that will evolve after the expansion rolls out. You get a lot of additional stuff in future free releases at no additional costs and no shady pay to win stuff as seen in other online games.

50 is not that much. And if it is, then I wonder how you can survive and even have a PC to play this game and a connection to the internet.

There was a thread; how much real money you invested in this game, mainly in Gems. And there were numerous people who didn’t pay one cent! And I am sure the outrage is the highest amongst those people.

Actually, 90% of my run experiences are good. People tend to push the negatives.

Not even vanilla WoW had raids ending on wipe. This is just stupid and makes the game more annoying. There are great single player games, where a player death means something (Bloodborne, Souls series…) and I appreciate it. Be cause death means something. But please not in a MMO. Even in GW1 they noticed that and added resurrection temples in their dungeons.

And again the outrage in the forums only is like they announced they will shut down the game and we all have to pay 100 $/€ for nothing. The real life and even in game feeling is this: “Okay, the price is a bit steep and/or they could have added at least one character slot to the cheapest expansion option but nonetheless I will buy it.”

For kitten’s sake: just calm down, and chill. It’s not the end of the world and it’s especially not needed to open a kittenload of threads and complaining and whining. Especially from people who played this game and never ever bought anything with real money.

Where Anet made a serious error imo and the opinion of many others is they decided to gouge the current players just that little bit extra by not including a character slot or two as they did in every expansion in GW save EOTN with the base HoT expansion. I mean seriously, there is zero incentive for a current player to pre purchase the base package.

Thank you, that’s what I think. The price would be okay if we get at least one additional character slot in the normal edition.

I think most of the rage could’ve be been prevented when they included an additional character slot in the standard edition for veterans/people who own the original game.

Yes, you played the game for nearly 3 years. Why is that ‘not anything’? A new player didn’t enjoy the game for 3 years. It’s like you would complain that a TV in 2012 was a lot more expensive than today and moan that people who buy this TV today got it cheaper.

The constant complaining about nitpicking and greedy behaviour of our kittening society kills my nerves.
