I came a long road and despite being a rather dedicated player and a GW player since over 10 years now, I must admit that some people are just so DETERMINED with dedication that my comment seems so utterly superficial and casual that it hurts. That’s it, it really came down to this. I don’t really go so much into detail.

I just copy the PvE meta on my characters and that’s it. I am not that much into theory and synergies, so maybe I just don’t see it. I just checked all the traits and built my own idea of what I wanna do on build constructor and it seemed fine. I don’t had the feeling it was so different from other new specs.

In this sense: chill guys, it’s a game and in the end you should have fun to play it and in the end it comes mainly down to your own skills to win (yes, I am aware of tier lists in a lot of games).

Oh that said: I really only played it in PvE for like one hour, so of course I’ll have a more detailed opinion after PoF release. further notice: people are creatures of habits, meaning we are so used to dodge that we think it is better than something else. Give it time, I am sure we get used to it. It’s a rather deep going change to the mechanics we know since 5 years.

[Concern] Will Anet actually fix the Mirage?

in Mesmer

Posted by: ProtoGunner.4953

ProtoGunner.4953

What exactly is the problem. We get a powerful dodge replacement where you can use casts and aren’t vulnerable, the lack of dispalcement is made up by the buffs you get like superspeed. We also get new ambush skills and there is with axe 3 and one other skill I think the option to finally make your illusions targeting a different target. Also you can boost your clones with this trait: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Infinite_Horizon Which makes your illusions make using ambushes (by gaining mirage cloak).

Also the idea of not dodging is that in PvP other enemies won’t see you dodge to further confuse your enemy. It was pretty easy in PvP to see the real Mesmer when s/he dodged.

I see the complains now and remember the TEMPEST being one shamed class before release. Only to be one of the most popular and powerful specs this game ever saw after the HoT release. Remember my words. Mirage will be back to full POWER (of love and passion).

People are just acting immature towards the fact that the mirage didn’t have any new F-skill and/or other mechanics.

Aurora crafting?

I did it and it took me about 3-4 weeks to complete. If you haven’t done any achievements it will take you a vast amount of time. First to unlock the trinket collection itself and then all the living story 3 associated achievements for the items you want (though you can get those form PvP or WvW rewards, which I only did for the Bitterfrost Achievements since the boss achievements are really annoying if you play solo). Other than that it’s not hard and you will roughly need around zero to 1000g depending of how many mats you already collected.

Oh and there is one thing: Start with this as soon as possible, be cause it is used in one of the collections and it’s time gated (you need at least 16 days to complete):

How is the game these days?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The more different things you do in the game, the more enjoyable the game can be imo. As someone who is not in a guild, and HATES pug grouping for small group things (can’t stand seeing elitist kittens insult others over skill level and what not)… I miss out on fractals, dungeons, raids, pvp, and even more organized wvw play. Yet, I still find gw2 has more to offer than any other game I’ve played. And we have PoF coming out.

So yeah, I’d say the game is worth trying again 100%.

Seems rather your perspective. Elitist != being adaptable to overcome harder content. If your really miss out even lowest level fractals start to work on your playstyle (if you wish to do this content) given you are only missing it out be cause you feel everyone else in a group is elitist.

My opinion to OP’s question: After I burned out with HoT (maxed out and did a legendary after a couple of months) I mostly quit playing and only played sporadically. Though I always logged in for the new story chapters. I also finishded the new legendary trinket Aurora yesterday and for me it was rather fun to do (expect that timegated druid backpack from Draconis Mons…).

The new expansion looks promising and I like mounts so in my opinion they learned from the mistakes with HoT – especially content wise.

I only played the following in PvE (which I mainly play):

- Scourge: 9/10 fun lore and interesting mechanics. Fun to play. I plan to max this out at first. It felt a bit squishy though and the barrier cooldown is way too fast. I seldom could make great use for it.

- Mirage: 8/10 fun lore and interesting new twist with the dodge mechanic. I also never felt underwhelming damage wise. Since it lacks dodges there are a lot of skills to teleport with new utilities.

Further I played the following during the class beta:

- Spellbreaker: 5/10 rather underwhelming though I like the animations, but can’t say too much

- Firebrand: 8/10 nice animations and lore. I like this one so far.

- Soulbeast: 7/10 looks strong, but somehow I don’t like running around with a constant stench cloud around me and it feels a bit off.

- Weaver: 6/10 I am sure it is fun to play, but its overwhelming amount of skills and complexity may turn off some players. Also sword feels a bit weak.

- Deadeye: 7/10 looks and feels fun to play. Not sure how it works out in PvE though.

That’s why I also like to take the opposition in like Horde in Warcraft or make a female charr. It’s called ‘role play’ and to play a female doesn’t make me uncofortable (I am male). It’s a point of aesthetics. Like you like to watch a kitten female ninja fighting off some thugs etc.

Get some boosters and you are done in 6-7-8hours top. Try to complete as many dailies as possible and consume the potions. A full track is roughly 75 of those.

Edit; Horrible typos.

It’s 6-8 hrs without boosters, with Boosters it’s between 3-4 hrs to complete.

Also there is a way to get the GoB without ever doing any WvW besides going into Spawn and purchasing an item for WvW Big Spender it’s Called Karmic and Ley Line Converters.

So either do 3-8 hrs of WvW or due the Converter method that requires zero WvW.

3-4 hours? I want to see that. I use boosters and it takes 7-8 hours easily and I am mostly on tier 6.

Why didn't you buy HoT?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: ProtoGunner.4953

ProtoGunner.4953

Reasons why I haven’t bought the new expansion:

- I have only recently come back to GW2 after 3 years. I’m pretty much clueless about what has happened story wise. I’m pretty surprised that the majority of content is untouched from when I left and it seems whatever is new is in the xpac.

- I originally bought GW2 for around(probably a bit more) $20AUD (Physical Copy) when it was first released.
The price for HOT alone is around $37.82AUD and the upcoming expansion is bundled with HOT for $63.04AUD. For me it’s just a turn off for these expansions to be over the base game cost. But now the base game value is suddenly 0. I feel like Anet should at least give some sort of trial period to their expansion to see if it’s actually worth getting.

- From brief research I found out that there was some sort of outrage with HOT release for existing players because around the time GW2 was going F2P. If I’m not mistaken there was a possibility for existing players to “refund” their game and basically get a free upgrade to HOT. And this is only for digital purchases. I assume this was a limited time thing and again – I feel somewhat cheated. I bought the game like others a physical copy which I’m pretty sure I still have yet I’m not entitled to the same. It’s just somewhat unfair.

What I find bad about the expansions:

- Class skills/specializations : I dislike that it’s ONLY available for HOT users. It’d be nice if it was the new class was for the HOT expansion and the specialization update was available for all; else allow it to be unlocked for those who had existing accounts prior the game turning F2P.

- Gliders : I thought this was just odd seeing in GW2 very odd. I still don’t know what to think of it. I’ve only seen it’s use in a jumping puzzle in Lions arch that required the use of the glider. Why that JP is in a “F2P” map I don’t know. But thank gosh there are HOT Mesmer that are willing to cheat us through <3.

- Story restrictions : Literally am restricted to getting story content. What if I just paid for the episodes can I just get into the relevant map instances for the story? No. I HAVE to have HOT. To me it’s just a turn off to returning to the game and being excluded to such an important aspect to the game.

Sorry for any errors or if some parts make no sense; somewhat tired but was looking for threads related to HOT.

Er, dude… you clearly never played an MMO. It’s totally normal, that’s why it’s called an expansion.

Anet is not that amoral. They had time constraints with the original style of generation two legendaries; they were just too complex, so they made them easier, without the ultra long collection quests and left us with exactly four legendaries which have them (nevermore, astralaria, hope, chuka and champawat). MO told us in a long post, they will put them on hold until they re-introduced the new ‘style’ of legendaries with much less complex inter-world connected collections.

I am not sure weather they haven’t finished the designs of all of them or they now release them in small parts even after the new expansion – which isn’t the best move imho, because peculiar people like Dashingsteel who sees a conspiracy and cashgrab behind every corner are kittened.

I assume they won’t release infos or at least not all the infos be cause the HoT expansion underperformed and the actual playerbase is pretty low. Typical company policy. Look at WoW: after the population fell drastically, they just removed the ‘active player’ news completely.
