Especially rangers are sought after. Their condi setup with viper’s gear is very good.

Imo it’s a map issue. You can’t see where the event/quest mark is at first – I mean on which level. The map is small but I usually found most things within 10-15 minutes. And you get used to it and know where the stuff is. Take your time and stay cool…
I play a lot of metroidvania games though, maybe that’s why I find myself rather comfortable within such environments.

The fight was great, at least the atmosphere. Too easy though but with no bugs.
Story wise I don’t know. If course it’s cool to see Primordus but to introduce another character to the roster and make it more complicated is a bit annoying although it is Balthazar. What does this mean? I mean a lot of the professions worship Balthazar as their god of war – all warriors for example. This should have a lot of influence in the future. Or they make whatever it is necessary to ‘undo’ it. We’ll see…

Taimi is a typical good feel disney-like character for young people imho. It just is too bright and too I can do and achieve everything style. I just don’t like this trope. Hollywood and especially children’s shows is full of this copy-paste characters and it sucks.
But I respect that many people apparently like her. The story overall is pretty good imho and I miles better than the original personal story (which was even more full of tropes and annoying characters).

I wish people would finish at least one Soulsborne Game before they start with HoT.

I dislike that all new maps are significantly smaller than the original HoT maps and of course a lot smaller than the original vanilla maps. Other than that: they are okay. But there is no meat: you can do the story and seen all in about 30-60mins and that’s it. The only thing going back to it is for achievements and grinding stuff. Everything seems so shallow though. I really think they should have original and interesting side quests and/or daily quests where you can farm for reputation.
Probably I am just nostalgic, but I liked the reputation farm in GW1 and WoW: Burning Crusade. It motivated me. It’s likely that I would change my mind if that was today though.

In my opinion Anet is gone too far. There are a kitten ton of gliders and only 3 are (2 of those legendary!) are skins you can get in game. There is not a single fancy glider you can get via achievements or as a drop from a (raid-)boss. The soul river for example would have been perfectly fit as a rare drop from Gorseval – a missed opportunity!
One thin I loved in WoW is to find and collect mounts via achievements, special boss drops etc. It motivated me a lot. And in GW2 you are left with buying stupid gems for 99% of all the skins. A shame.

Guys, you defending this ludicrous method is ridiculous! It’s unbearable to ask for money when it was originally for free. New players don’t and won’t have any understanding why they have to pay again. You progress the freaking main story! And besides: the original content of HoT was so tiny with no dungeons and only 3 real maps to explore and then they dare to ask for money progress in the main story? What the hell? Guys really, I don’t get it, are you really so blind by fanboyism that you really defend this business model? I am completely speechless…
Yes, guys, can’t you see having an opinion is ludicrous? can’t you see how mad it is to deviate with this guys opinion, HOW DARE YOU!
It’s unbearable to ask for money when it was originally for free. New players don’t and won’t have any understanding why they have to pay again.
1st. you seem under the false notion that LS was once free. it was not. Never was, never will be. It was a GIFT for active players. You paid for it by being active during release windows. Just because you missed the treat doesn’t mean you were entitled to it.
2nd. Luckily, we don’t. You say we pay for it again? who, who paid twice for LS content? name ONE person, just one!
Lol, great thing mimicking me. I sometimes get a bit offhand. That’s what I love in this forum. But now in all Ernest Hemingway: Your argument that the Living World is a gift from Anet is far-fetched. They had to keep the crowd playing, it was in their interest to keep players playing the game. Also it was experimental.
Oh and btw: I haven’t missed a single LS2 or LS3 release, I got it for free. I also have a 2nd account and I payed a few hundreds of real money for gems. It’s not that I don’t like to pay for stuff I want. But I think it is a bad idea to ask for money – especially if you compare the price of HoT with its tiny content. Imagine a new player who has to pay a lot of money to just keep playing the story.
The money comes from the gem store, and this was the initial idea. I think the money they make with the LS story is far far fewer and only damages the company. But that’s my opinion of course.
‘would of been’ —> wrong
Why all the discussion. The point is that anet takes after a ‘fix’ which didn’t work another quintillion aeons to fix it. That’s what I think is the most annoying thing. Why the heck does it take always kittening ages to fix such simple things.

But as usual in GW2 they don’t do things people – especially the veterans – want:

Instead of building on the fundaments of GW lore they rather try to create new stuff people never demanded. One just asks why and wonders…

In my opinion it is bad communicated and new players are left unhappy. Imho this should be just free for all and all time. I expect that from an MMO. The damage is bigger than the money you make. You can see that on the forums. Every now and then someone asks here what’s going on.
You already getting to play free without a sub, so you may feel entitled to having everything for a free but content costs money to develop, servers cost money to maintain etc etc. As for living story, this is an old old old story, was discussed to death years ago. If you want it free swap gold for gems and get it for free, or get it for free by simply being onlnie when it is offered for free.
Think of it this way, a shop has a sale on for 2 days, you arrive in the shop 3 months later and ask for sale prices, not gonna happen.
No, the ‘sup’ concept is an ancient stigmatisation of MMOs and is not needed anyways. Subs were possible be cause people paid for it. And as of now only a handful have subs and a significant playerbase. Besides, GW2 keeps costs even lower with a non continuous world. The zones are split and don’t work as many MMOs with a true open world.
No, in my opinion it is bad marketing to ask new players for money to follow the main story. What were they thinking? You pay a full price game and then they ask for money? No, sorry. It’s a no go. Besides, I don’t think they make a lot of money off these story parts anyways. The damage is bigger than what they gain (monetarey income vs. long time customer contentedness).

So you want to destroy the balance and opportunity cost structure between combat and exploration builds that make GW2 unique, just to more efficiently skip map travelling with an item dependant boon that will instantly become mandatory and create a considerable power gap between people with and without mounts?
Wow, just wow. Your arguments are pretty null and void:
1. You seem very emotional towards mounts just for the sake of not want to having them. I talk about convenience. It’s convenient to have 100% speed increase. Exploration build? What’s that? You really change your build to ‘explore’ the map for the 10th time and then go back to your dungeon build? I highly doubt people want that…
2. If everybody gets a free mount at a certain point in the leveling process (similar to the standard glider) I see no problem about a ‘mandatory’ item.
3. Your arguments seem null and void. It’s emotional, and in the end you just fear a wowisation of your favourite game. That said, it’s pretty standard and every major RPG franchise has mounts: Zelda, Elder Scrolls, Final Fantasy etc.
‘would of been’ —> wrong
Your weird argument for production speed aside, how in the blazes is wasting hundreds and thousands of resources on making mounts, for which there is absolutely no practical use ingame, going to generate more income for anet? You really think a large enough playerbase is going to spend a lot of money on mounts to justify the massive production cost it’s going to take? I’ll get that there will be a few people who will buy mounts, but by far not enough to justify to the production cost. If anet had resources for extravagant things like mounts, don’t you think the regular content would’ve been a lot faster?
And your other thing, how is he in the minority? yes, I heard a lot of people saying they can’t wait for the next LS chapter, or the next expansion, but impatience doesn’t equate the belief that anet is too slow. I think you’re in the minority when you complain about anet’s production speed. I think the majority of the people here want complete content, rather than rushed content. I think that argument was settled after the release of HoT, which was clearly rushed because of impatient people. It was a complete broken mishap of an expansion. Only in the several patches after did it become a respectable expansion. Now people are more than willing to wait a little longer to get such a good expansion on the first day.
I don’t think mounts will take that much time. At least not for a normal company. Also, there are games which have mounts and waypoints. Also it is always better to have a mount instead to exchange to a speed boost which only gives 33% speed. I don’t want to constantly waste a slot in openworld only to have a speed boost, or use any skills all the time to get swiftness. Also 33% is too low. I want to have 100% speed boost. Also, there are maps where WPs are scarce – especially when they are contested all the time. Additionally in WvW I don’t have to walk on foot all the time to get into the action again. Mounts would be awesome – especially collecting them through achievements etc. Though I don’t think it will happen, so… one point more I quit playing at least temporarily. Waiting for expansion. Otherwise this game will go down fast. Playerbase is lower than ever and interest is fading. Even some of the most loyal friends I played with quit playing be cause the lack of content is so evident.

You are complaining that you got 4 weeks of game play (which i am sure is way more if you really started raiding and made two new legendaries) for 50 bucks and to top that you list PS4 games that cost about 70 bucks and give about a week (two weeks top) of game play.
Also MOBA audience and MMO audience aren’t quite the same. One being solely competition based while the other one just offers competition possibilites.
I understand what you mean: I have enough money myself. But I noticed a general consent in this forum that 50€ is a bit high for just a few maps. Other companies showed a lot more content for a lower amount.
You misunderstood my point about ‘gameplay’. The air and motivation and the awe of fresh feel faded away after four weeks; it was done, most achievements were done and there was nothing new to explore. Farming for two legendaries surely took a wile, I finished Astralaria at the end of 2015 and by mid-end 2016 I finished Nevermore. Though I played unfrequently.
You missed my point with MOBA/MMO community. There are global trends. There were the trends of RTS games, the trend of MMOs where all and your mother played it. Hell, I even met players who haven’t played any game in WoW chats before WoW. It was a phenomenon nonetheless and it was a new experience for me. Now the huge spotlight is gone and the focus within gaming is on MOBA and other team based simple games.
Of course the whole industry grew. There are a lot new possible players (China and other BRIC countries) which further diversifies gaming in the whole. And a lot of players who grow up with mobile games which then later complain that games and contents are too hard. The past 25 years games grew easier and easier year by year (with a few exceptions like Demon’s/Dark Souls etc.).

People who don’t speak/refuse to learn/speak English – especially in a digitalized world as of now – are severely limiting themselves. I know this is not a solution, but sometimes I wonder what people think if they don’t learn the world’s most spoken language…
I for example played my first RPG back in 1993 – 13 years old and barely any English knowledge – I had a dictionary next to me (no internet back then!) and looked up every single word I didn’t understand.

HOT completely ruined the game for me, I played the game from beta and have literally played every day since launch. But now I just play for dailies and on occasion do fractals with friends. The game should be called cc wars now, condition wars w/e. I used to love my war, getting in the mix, hitting stuff with a axe or gs. But with HOT that was taken away, now things like mobs in bloodstone fen that hit you from 3 miles away, or mesmer mobs in dorlic lake that drop 30 circles when they do their gs attack. My problem is when a light armor class like a necro has more survivability than a heavy armor class, you also introduce a healer class. Why not introduce a HA tank class with true taunts or better survival skills? I loved this game when it came out, but now I have unfortunately drifted away.
Hot was just rushed out unfinished, even the elementalist elite profession didn’t have an elite skill a few weeks before the launch, they just stuck some aura and stats change on a premade visual effect instead of making something cool.
It’s hard to fix something that hits so far off the mark. It’s better to start anew, so they started on a new expansion pack and cancelled the unfinished part of HoT and released the rest as LS3. This explains why we get these nice explorable maps with no content in them besides some enemies to farm.
Don’t tell false facts. The ele had his elite long time ago.
I don’t think you know. I was beta testing HoT. They canned the HoT elementalist elite skill in the last beta trial because all the testers complained it didn’t do anything at all and it was bugged on top of it. They started over a new one just before the release. It was completely rushed our and that’s why it’s kitten.
Hm, I also beta tested it, but you are right, it was 25% skill reduction for the party for use of the next skill.

Just to make people feel how extremely slow anet is. I lost motivation after a couple of months after HoT and I don’t bother to log in anymore because I am so bored (and some great games coming out the past months).
They need to learn that a steady stream of content is needed to keep players coming online. Why they only think they have to reinvent the wheel with new ‘concepts’ etc. is beyond my comprehension. People just want cool and meaty content like dungeons (non-gimmicky like Aetherpath). They just need to gaze upon their ex-company Blizzard to know how you do things.
Generalize much?
“People” want different things. Different players, different expactaitions.
Im perfectly fine with the speed we are getting new things.
New maps, new and revamped fractals, new raids, new story stuff, new pvp seasons, new legendaries, etc.Im glad they try out new stuff. If i wanted the same ol’ same ol’ – there are plenty of other games that deliever that.
I know, I know. GW2 people tend to be very patient. I assume it’s part conditioning part ‘you have to get along with it’. But imagine the standard MMO player back in the days and you release an expansion with only 3.5 maps and not a single dungeon. The people I talked with wished much more. So to speak, no I don’t speak for the general GW2 community, but at least with those who played with me GW2 and GW1 the past 10 years.
And yet this is the sentiment I came to this game to get away from. I don’t care if they EVER introduce another dungeon.
In most games you burn through the new zones, go quest hub to quest hub, get everything done and never return to that zone. This game is a very different animal.
I can’t compare VB or TD or DS for that matter to any expansion zone in any game I’ve played, ever. I got far more replayability out of those zones.
The number of zones is not as important to me as the complexity of the zones.
Ever heard of reputation farming? I returned to a lot of WoW zones to farm reputation until I hit exalted and/or there were other mechanics to do.
I don’t think the HoT maps are bad, but I had most done in like 3-4 weeks, and map achievements in a couple of weeks later. The story content was very short (4 hours, compared to GW: Nightfall which took me nearly a week of daily playing to finish), there were no dungeons to run with friends and no reputation to farm for glorious rewards. And let’s face it: 3 and a half maps (DS being one meta zerg event which is fun for 1-2 times – rest is farming for skins/achievements/mastery points) the content was just too little. Especially if you consider the rather high price of 50€.
After that I expected at least some content but the drought until the first LS release was too long. It was okay, but actually, I lost motivation. I really am bored. I made two new legendaries and my interest is dwindling.
That said the raids are of course fine, but unfortunately I lost interest in them. My theory is supported by the fact that less and less people are playing – popularity is low and friends asked me if the game is still live. I will buy the new expansion of course – I play since vanilla GW1, but my hope for the franchise are a bit low. Alas the whole MMO industry is bleeding. There’s a huge shift towards MOBAS and other team based games.
At least I still have my PS4 with great single player games. Why repeating tons of the same content in an MMO when I can play games like Nier: Automata, Horizon, Nioh, Bloodborne, Uncharted 4, Persona 5 etc.

They improved graphics in GW1 continuously and even switched from direct x 8 to 9. In GW2 the graphics in HoT are a bit more detailed and a bit more demanding. I hope they will continue to improve it for the next expansion though I doubt they will have a more contemporary directx version. It’s a bit embarrassing to use DX9 in 2017. WoW switched to 10 back in 2010 for instance…

I died 1-2 times when I first did that. Not so hard. I even did all the achievements tied to it solo.
Classes make a pretty big difference though. It was super easy with Ranger and Warrior. But also doable with other classes. I don’t think it is too hard. Then again I played a lot of solo Games like Devil May Cry, Demon’s/Dark Souls, Resident Evil which have comparable hard bosses with lots of mechanics. It’s just a matter of exercise.

Solution: nearly every major MMO offers difficulty levels. It’s totally normal. As typical as for Anet of course they don’t offer them and that’s why we all have all those little annoying things. There are easy tasks in the raid you can do, but I still understand all the people who don’t want to do it and even can’t fill their mastery level. It’s not really customer friendly.

Everything past the core game, old Tyria if you will, is overtuned. It is what is keeping this game from becoming a premier title. Solo personal stories are not solo personal stories. Well, I guess they are if you enjoy dying quite a bit when there is no matter of skill to prevent it.
The story is easy, I usually never die… I don’t know what game you are playing.

Here’s the point: People are very biased and do things how they are conditioned. They don’t even think how they use their space/jump button. They automatically press it longer if they think they need to jump farther. I know this be cause I have been conditioned like this, too. From Super Mario, Sonic and other platformer games.
Once you understand that you simply have to tap the space bar to jump and not hold it any longer you will notice that you never glide. Believe me. I have a 30 year gaming backlog and it works 100% like this. You either double tap or you hold it too long and this results in gliding. Always. Any other claims are results of either inexperienced biased/conditioned gameplay or probably lags (I can’t prove that since I have usually a ping of 20-40).
