I try to mimic some whiners here : rant GIMME MOARR, GIMME EVERYTHING FOR 9 DOLLARS WITH EXPANSION, I played this game for 3 years without paying a monthly fee or anything but I want all for free
Okay, after some thoughts I admit it is rather unwise to not include at least one character slot in the standard edition. They added two in GW1 campaigns though the price was full price (around USD70 here where I live).
K. Don’t buy it. If fifty bucks is going to stress people this much, perhaps they need a break from gaming to find better jobs. It’s a steak dinner. Buy it or don’t but stop whining about it. The price is the price.
I absolutely second your thoughts!

I like GW2, been playing since it released, but like so many others I have come to a point where I can’t really “progress” any further. I’ve got all my ascended armour/weapons/accessories. I’ve got my character looking exactly the way I want, so I’ve no need to grind extra skins (until something is released which I like the looks of more than what I currently have equipped, but you never know when that’ll be).
I’ve heard that HoT is meant to be bringing some form of progression in but how does it work exactly? I’m not looking for WoW style treadmill grind or anything like that, that’s not what I’m saying… I just need some new form of progression to set my focus on.
Thanks guys.
We’re getting the GW2 equivalent of WoW’s reputation grind.
GW1 had reputation or what they called a title track. Nothing new. Just look up the luxon/kurzick titles. Took ages to grind that to 10 million:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Allegiance_rank
And yes, I like farming reputation. At least something to do after you hit max level.
Patch won’t affect world completion in any way. Besides that: I had to complete world twice for the gifts. And even the 2nd time was painfully boring. Sure you can split it and do it here and there. Most of my 9 chars have 60%+ anyways. But TEN times? I rather dive into a pull full of used diapers ;-)
It’s fine, 250 gems isn’t really all too much to get in game or even to buy. The only greedy thing is the exclusive hairstyles only available via hair style kit. Just add those to the character creation already!
Which would mean that new people and new chars would get the exclusive hairstyles and faces for free but veterans with old chars would have to pay. If you don’t think that would cause massive whining in the forums then you don’t know the forums.
Yeah, kinda. But people usually accept to pay for a reskin of their character.
What is a ‘valet’? Can you it that?

This game generally lacks monumental awe-feel with huge monumental buildings or constructions. The only thing that looks a bit like this is Lornar’s Pass if you look up from the valley to the Priory.
And then… the new areas are all much much smaller with events everywhere. Sometimes I just want a vast devastating area not filled with zergs and NPCs running and shouting all the time. Give us something like the Crystal Desert or Desolation in GW1.
Now with even smaller maps than the ones from the original game (why!?!) the game even loses more immersion which is anyway bad be cause of zoned maps.
I don’t get what’s complicated? 3/4 or all legendaries are the same BTW.
You get the mats, you need two recipes from Miyani and one gift from a particular dungeon for 500 tokens, the rest is putting stuff into the mystic forge.
Of course if you don’t have world completion and crafting on 0 it will take some time. But nothing that you can’t do within a couple of weeks.
I made 4 legendaries – the last was Kuzu – and especially this one was rather easy. Took my only one week to finish. Though I bought all the mats I didn’t have.

I really don’t remember exactly, but never something worth more than 30g, and I am well around 3k hours.
But just to share this: I bought some keys back during Halloween 2012 and got the Grinning Shield Skin:
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/36339
I sold it for 60g right after Halloween and though it was a great deal…

Imo I don’t have much problems to find the events, usually you just ask where the events are and there are some meta events, too.
As OP already mentioned the following event is broken every single time:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Escort_the_supply_dolyak_to_Snowdrift_Haven
This is just ridiculous. This even after years the same mess. What the hell? Can’t they just fix that?
Okay, point granted. Of course they just could’ve leave SAB after the initial introduction. I didn’t mention exactly what I want to say; when (or if?) they bring back SAB people will value the content more rather then having it constantly and all the time. You can clearly see that with the annually returning events like Halloween, Wintersday etc.
Such tactic creates exclusivity and we all know how it feels when you missed something in the past that was just a one time event.
That said, I do not appreciate this. It’s an attempt to explain what anet’s plans are. Additionally, they seem eager to have additional content with SAB rather than just the same two worlds.
(edited by ProtoGunner.4953)
My point was people will always complain and they wouldn’t play SAB anymore (unless you are a hardcore fan) be cause there is no additional content. The kitten begins anew: they moan there is no additional SAB content.
First they were fun, but after a couple of weeks we’ve seen all paths. It is fun from time to time to run dungeons with friends/guildies and on top you get rather good gold.
The problem I see is that since the beginning there is nothing new there. They revamped AC once but that’s it, aside from Aetherpath. The dungeon scene is stale and it’s really a shame that my favorite MMO has the most stale instanced group content I know.
This skill is mainly useless in PvP, really. People run and dodge around you while you channel. Usually hits next to nothing. However, you can immob him with dagger 3 if you want to waste it on this rather sub-par skill.
I don’t run Terrormancer, but the far worse Minion Master (for fun) and think that rangers are one of the easiest classes to kill. Just spam all your minion skills and use CCs and spam your skills til he’s dead. Just dodge on cooldown, don’t think and you’ll eventually succeed, there’s really no big tactics on the amateur level.
Nobody likes underwater combat. I’d be perfectly fine if I never had to fight underwater again. I despise the PS missions that force you to spend 90% of the mission underwater.
Well, I like it. It’s not as bad as all talk about.
There are two ways for anet to fix this: either rework the whole underwater content and introduce it again with a new expansion or they will remove it completely.
The sheer fact that they introduced it from the beginning is a plus for the first. Also I can’t imagine they remove it completely. Don’t forget that they must make underwater combat for the Revenant. Also, they can’t just remove it since people invested in underwater legendaries (like me).
I like this game but the non existent endgame in this game is what bothers me the most. I like to have a raid or hard instance with unique drops to make the ultimate gear (in the GW2-context skin-wise).
Thing is, skins are very subjective. What is one person’s absolute favourite over-the-top bells-and-whistles completely oversized pauldrons is another person’s worst nightmare.
If I, for example, didn’t like the skins that the “raid or hard instance” had as a reward, would I be justified in claiming that there was in fact “no endgame” as there was nothing of interest to me?
I second your thoughts. My point was not the rewards thoug, this may something that can be individual, maybe certain tokens to buy items from a pool of gear/skins. My point was rather what end game means to me.
Extreme RNG luck, I threw in about 1500g worth of exotics and 500-1000g worth of rares to get nothing. Since almost two years I never used the forge in order to get a precursor again. I feel healthy again.
I like this game but the non existent endgame in this game is what bothers me the most. I like to have a raid or hard instance with unique drops to make the ultimate gear (in the GW2-context skin-wise). We don’t have this in this game. Of course the scavenger hunt for the luminescence armor was fun and motivated me, but that’s just not it.
Even GW1 had hard mode and hard instanced group content for up to 12 people (FoW, UW, DoA, Urgoz, Deep…).
I never will understand the GW2 community. They seem to like what I don’t like and here I was sure people gonna hate it, but they like it? WTF?
I like jumping puzzles, but let’s face it: the camera is – even with the collision slider – rather horrible. You learn to adapt and take other angles. Maybe it’s perception but I can run through parts or jump through parts even when the camera is constantly changing. Maybe be cause I played a lot of platformer games on consoles (Mario Galaxy anyone?).
Lol, you made my day. I read the whole thing, then I watched the picture of Roy Cronacher and had to laugh ^^
kitten stop repeating the same old tpics every single week…

I have a kittenload of other games to play:
-Driveclub (PS4)
-Witcher 3 (PS4)
-Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker (Wii U)
-Grim Fandango Remaster
-Soon new Batman: Arkham Knight
Further, I may check out the following games though not that interested in:
-Heroes of the Storm
-Destiny, since new patch
-Wildstar when its F2P (I played betas and only a 1-2 weeks after release)
Also, it’s summer, I bought a new mountainbike and there’s still 1 week of vacation and some concerts, BBQ with friends, festivals etc. So I am certainly not bored. There’s plenty to do besides playing GW2.
Ever thought about pet swapping? You could heal twice by swapping pet and casting again. That’s the reason.
That said: the trait is crap anyway, it’s a very low heal that heals only if you use an attack skill, so it’s bond to DPS. I just think the mechanic isn’t well though out. As it is with a lot of traits no one uses.
BTW: you inspired me to try out the bunker MM build from here:
http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Necromancer_-_Minion_Master
While not the most effective build, it is a lot of fun and you can hold a point quite for a long time/prevent from capping even with 2+ enemies and wait ’til help arrives. Also the damage is surprisingly good with dagger although highly defensive.
WoW has something like that. If you go for beastmastery line you can tame exotic pets – at least it was like this until Cata or so.
Would appreciate it.
I observe Cobolt Dye as well as Electro Pink and Electro Blue Dye. Since the announcement of removing them of the loot table of the black lion chest those dyes skyrocketed to ridiculous prices. Prices generally ‘jump’ be cause buyers buy the cheap ones and only the absurd priced ones remain. Usually you can see a restock of those a couple of days later. But ultimately they will remain extremely pricey as soon as supply goes down.
I think most people aren’t trying to manipulate it. It’s just panic buy and later sell it for more. Investment so to speak.
It depends on the class, I had zero problems with bosses as a ranger or warrior. A rather hard time as Elementalist. But even then; they aren’t really hard. You have to learn the mechanics and at the end you will fighting them without going down – especially if you do the achievements.
My advise: instead of complaining just learn the mechanics, I observe a development in the game community that concerns me and that is the constant complaining instead of learn and overcome a challenge: you will feel satisfied. I am glad that games like Dark Souls or the newly released Bloodborne are there.
Something between 1500 – 2000€ since release. I don’t have that much time, since I have a full time job. But I easily can afford that.
Agreed, but do this for all professions: let us have at least 2 OOC weapon swaps. It really sucks to look after your other weapon if you want to change it, altogether with templates we already had in GW1 – why didn’t anet implement this in the first place? That’s really mind-boggling.
The video lacks sound effects and the music is unfitting/not form the game. Besides that: nice vid.
I think starting with 0% is fair. It’s the neutral state of your class. You must build up life force in order to use it. Imagine a warrior, they nerfed it that way he has 0 adrenaline if OOC, so I assume the same should be with the necro: build first up, then use it. I don’t think it’s fair to have a full life force bar at the beginning of a fight. Same with a mesmer: he must build up the illusions and it’s even not possible if you don’t have a target.
If you have the impression you can “buy it any time” you may never buy it. But if it only comes up twice a year you may be more likely to purchase it, even if not discounted, because you don’t want to spend another 6 months without it.
That’s true, but that’s why only a few items aren’t up all the time.
I just buy the character slot, it’s not that you can only buy it when it’s on sale though I get it; something cheaper for the same is always nice. Remember, you can always use the credit card to buy gems, it’s not that expensive.
I don’t have the problems with those. If something is annoying, is the guy in Camp Resolve in SW who tells every 30 seconds that ‘If Mordermoth can attack the Mother Tree it can attack anywhere!’ kitten , Every. Thirty. Seconds. What the hell? Stop this madness!!!
Wait what? Okay, I never do such things but if I kick someone and we are only 2 players in the party, I get kicked too? Didn’t know that. When has this been implemented? Together with the new kicking system?
Kicking yourself out has been a thing since the game released.
I didn’t get he kicked himself. Why would you do that..?
So, okay I get it. He accidentally kicked himself and writes now a forum post for this? Oh my…
snip, pictures from ancient machine
Your screen has a 1:1 ratio? Is that CRT how old? 20 years?
To your 2nd part:
Point 1: I agree. Most skills are just of their own and don’t bear the synergy it should’ve. There is no complex rotation that we even in WoW have. Of course there are a couple of ‘synergies’ like Blood is Power/Deadly Swarm and some rotations to stack buffs and stuff, but it’s never at a level of gw1 or other MMOs.
Point 2: Only half true: Only a couple of elite missions had this erronous mechanic. If you remember the dungeons introduced with Eye of the North had respawn points. Also, it’s a kittenty mechanic to artificially raise the difficulty. I see no point in this and it was only frustrating.
Maybe this is the very old news during pre-release of the original game: they had this idea but never came to fruition. Hence they allowed to use their API.
End of discussion and we all can go home, really…
You mean, we can all stop playing.
IF this would be true :
The problem I see is that a lot of people run around with useless crap, taking time to kill an enemy sometimes 4 or 5 times longer than with other gear
…which in fact is nearly impossible, since for that you really need to mess your character up big time.
I simply love the different gears. Not because they are really viable, but because players have options.
On paper or rather in theory you are right – versatility is always nice. I know what I am talking about though: back in 2012 I mained a guardian with PVT gear and AH-build, thinking this is the way to play a guardian. More and more I learned to play more aggressively and ultimately I landed on the zerker meta. Killing mobs with my first setup was a pain: it took literally 10-15 seconds to kill a normal mob in Cursed Shore while with the meta setup it takes 2-3 seconds. It’s a huge difference and the problem is that a lot of people use those useless gear. Especially in dungeons this is a problem.
Also, if the meta shifts to something different people need to grind for a new set and it takes a rather big amount of effort/time to complete a full ascended set. You could argue that this is normal in MMOs, but we all know that ArenaNet has a different philosophy and are eager to prevent this.
I never liked all the different stats in this game. The problem I see is that a lot of people run around with useless crap, taking time to kill an enemy sometimes 4 or 5 times longer than with other gear. This is just broken and it creates a lot of discussion in dungeons etc. as we all know.
Fixed stats for your character would be much appreciated. And those stats should give equally defensive as well as offensive stats. End of discussion and we all can go home, really…
Wait what? Okay, I never do such things but if I kick someone and we are only 2 players in the party, I get kicked too? Didn’t know that. When has this been implemented? Together with the new kicking system?
I’d personally prefer “Arbiter”. But I don’t care that much about the name. This thread just shows how few problems we have. 41 pages of raging only be cause the name doesn’t please you? That’s ridiculous… After a couple of months playing as “Dragonhunter” (unless they change the name) no one cares. Just move on, my god, the class won’t be different to play…
Horrible animation regarding how old Soul Calibur is and they managed to do that 100 times better…
I partially agree, especially with the Zodiac, Chaos and Tormented sets. Those should have been added with the implementation of an instanced hard party oriented content like it was in GW1: UW, FoW, DoA etc.
After years we veterans still ask for it and they still didn’t do anything.
A lot of people want organized and instanced boss encounters with a large group. It was a core element of most MMOs and that’s the awesome thing about it. They showed with Triple Trouble and the new Teq or the Vinewrath that they can do that. Now the problem is that there needs a lot of organization in a open non instanced world where players are by accident and don’t want to participate. This along with other issues. That’s why I’d appreciate this. The only dedicated content for guilds at the moment is the guild missions: 1h of content you can do with your guild per week- extremely repetitive after 2 years and didn’t change at all. It’s just not there, the feel of the challenge, the feel of joy after killing the hard boss for the first time with a huge guild is just awesome.
I think clipping in MMOs is something you can never rule out. It’s simply not possible with so many different armor skins and outfits. How can you expect to have no clipping if you have something like a spinal blade and a greatsword?
To achieve this every single armor item must have exact collision rules which is insane: so live with the clipping, it’s really not that bad. Just look at WoW, your cape even clips through a chair ^^
