Its a confirmed bug

Whether its supposed to give you ToT bags or if its supposed to give you other stuff is left unsaid.
Well its Anet’s responsibility to make sure that its not profitable to intentionally lose the games like this.
Its obviously not ok, and I’m not saying that you shouldn’t tell Anet its stupid, but they also collect data from the event. When they see the pathetically small number of players who made any of these recipes, they’ll known that it was stupid. What I’m saying is you should say “10k skulls? that’s stupid” and buy it on the trading post, rather than dwelling on it like its the end of the world.
All the other prizes are just as expensive. There’s nothing you can get from this event without dropping 100g+ on candy. Welcome to Halloween 2013, where everything good about 2012 is gone, and all the new stuff is in the gem shop.
If you talk to the asura via the mini golem, she says she sees a “marked decrease” in the amount of candy corn in the world, and suggests that the bloody prince is to blame. This seems to indicate that as the event progresses, there will be an increase in candy corn (and presumably the other materials) later on in the event.
I didn’t say it was reasonable, I just said they were technically incorrect. THE BEST KIND OF INCORRECT. I agree with you completely, actually. The only new content is RNG gem store content, and that kitten sucks. That said, I don’t find their crestfallen demeanor entirely appropriate, given that you can just buy the skins on the tp for around 150g and falling. Whether you grind the materials or grind the gp, what does it matter so long as you get the skin you’re after? Then again, I’ve always been a pragmatist. Just do what’s easiest/cheapest, and don’t sweat it if you didn’t get it exactly the way you wanted.
I’m unclear on how the reward works. Is it that only the top ten players get any reward? If so, what is your incentive to die on purpose? It just ensures you don’t get any rewards.
Reloading by leaving and re-entering the Clocktower instance, causing the 3 smaller chests to be reset without having to wait 15 minutes for the server to restart.
I wasn’t aware that you could do that, but even still I maintain that zerging in the labyrinth is a better way to get treat bags. Not only does it award you treat bags, but also large treat bags and other drops, which you can sell and use the money to buy more candy corn and rare mats. Its more fun, less repetitive (though only barely, I’ll give you that), and less risky. You can’t fail the zerg, but if you fail the jumping puzzle, you don’t get anything.
If you unlock the recipe you can make the item with materials avaliable all year round too. And when you could do that, the price settled around 200gp each, where its stayed even during the new event. There isn’t even a short window to make the recipe; you can buy the materials on the trading post after the even, and if last year is any indicator, the prices will be rock bottom for months after the conclusion of the event. But really, don’t bother with the recipe, its too expensive this year. Just save up and buy the weapon itself.
Yup.
The Crossing was the only staff skin that I went – OMG I need this. I want this. I will make this. And now I can’t get it.
So I am basically miserable. Not that I think Anet cares. They’re too busy making their not-grindy game.
Calm down man, you can just buy the staff on the trading post and not bother with the recipe. It costs 200gp. That’s NOTHING. 200gp is not some huge unattainable amount of gold. Its like a week of farming at frostgorge 2 or 3 hours a day. Its a month of playing the game normally. If the idea of working up 200gp is miserable to you, you should count yourself lucky that 200gp is ALL your favorite skin costs.
Yeah. Don’t bother going to those doors except to get to the mad realm. They’re just a complete waste of time. Once you’ve unlocked both waypoints in the mad realm (by going through one portal of each color) you can easily get all the door events inside the labyrinth.
I have no idea what this post is about, but I love it.
Reloading the map? What do you mean by that?
Where does it spawn in the Norn’s home instance? I swear I’ve searched every nook and cranny for the thing…
You’re likely looking in the QUEST instance. There’s two instanced zones in the great lodge. One is right by the door, and one is in the bottom floor next to the tooth of jormag, all the way against the back wall. I forget which is the quest and which is the home instance, but try the opposite one you first tried.
Unless you literally succeed 100% of the time, a better way to get treat bags is to farm events in the labyrinth, and in that case you also get the three champion loot bags every 10 minutes or so. Unless you find the jumping puzzle fun and find the zerg loathsome, I can’t see any reason to bother with this after you get your exotic gloves, treats or no treats.
No they’re exotic. And the 740g cost was calculated by the numbers originally posted in the patch note to get the recipe, not make the actual weapon. In any case, the numbers were revealed to be 10x higher than intended. Now the cost for the recipe is down to around 150g. The cost to actually MAKE the weapons are right around 300-400g which isn’t unusual for exotic weapons, like immobulus, vision of the mists, etc.
Yeah man, why didn’t you think to stand in one of his aoe attacks to get a protective buff? Its like you just assume that Viscount plays by the same rules as every other boss in this game. Viscount doesn’t care about your rules. He also heals you with his punches.
I’ve seen him on every overflow I’ve been on, as well as in Tarnished Coast
If you’re after the crossing, mad moon, or arachnophobia, you should just farm up some gold and buy the finished product off the trading post. The supply of these weapons will be unaffected by this update, since practically nobody will actually unlock the recipes. Demand might go up now that people realise that the recipe is unattainable this year, people who wanted to wait to get it now realise they have no choice but to buy. But I don’t suspect the price will be affected that much.
The recipe which requires 40 wine, 10 cobs, 10 refined mats, and 10 dust will give you the recipe sheet “Recipe: Gift of X”.
When you consume that you will be able to craft the Gift of X using 1 gift of knowledge/ascalon/thorns, 250 ori ingots, 20 ecto, and 100 lodestones.
Using that Gift of X, you can craft the actual weapon using 1 Gift of X, 1 eldritch scroll, 100 mystic coins, and 20 sigils of the night.
Last year, the recipe sheet Recipe:Gift of X required much MUCH fewer pieces of candy corn and fangs/skulls/nougat. It was never a drop at all.
In all boss encounters, the stuff they put on the ground is bad. That’s how we’ve been taught since day one. Red circle or not, its rather silly to expect players to think to stand INSIDE one of the boss’ ground effects. And I’m pretty sure I have more than half a brain.
I was running with the herd in the maze completing the door achievement when someone yelled out “yes!” then he linked it. So I am assuming they are drops from the champs there or their chests.
Really tho, I am surprised why these items were not even mentioned at all on the update notes…
You ought to be less gullible. If I had the chat link from data mining, I’d troll people like that too.
Zerg content = auto attack and afk. Why bother with the mechanics when zergs can simply ignore them.
cause the grand Viscount can one shot a fully stacked hp warrior with certain skill’s and AFK on it is bad cuas if you die in a bad spot no one can res you and you will not get credit if you dont do enough dmg on it not to mention the boss goes buck wild at time just like the lich.
I’m sorry, did you just make as if going to a waypoint and running back is not an option? Are you one of those people who dies at an event, and stays there on the ground, expecting to be res’d? If so you scale up the event without contributing anything, and you make it harder on everyone else. Waypoint and run back. Not just here, but in all events, ever.
2. The drop rate of halloween mats will go up over the course of the event. How much and in what ways is unclear though.
You sure about that? There’s been nothing official stating anything like that, and nothing in game either.
The golem you talk to says so… albeit in vague uncertain terms.
The golem that you talk to occasionally says that you should expect to see more halloween mats as events unfold. Given the quite frankly insane requirements, I don’t see any way it could play out other than for refined mats to drop more frequently as it goes on.
Can I get a confirmation on something? Is this 10k materials getting me the RECIPE to craft the gift? Or the gift itself?… (difference of 200g in the construction of the item at current market prices).
Also, are the current drop rates on these items intentional? Because I farmed the labyrinth for… literal hours yesterday (around 6 as it was a day off….) and got like… 10 pieces of nougat? (at 100something magic find after food buffs)
1. The recipe requiring 10k candy corn and 10k rare mats gets put into the mystic forge and out pops a recipe sheet where you can learn the recipe for the appropriate gift. After you consume the recipe sheet, you can then craft the actual gift, whose recipe is unchanged since last year.
2. The drop rate of halloween mats will go up over the course of the event. How much and in what ways is unclear though.
Don’t be so hasty. The drop rate of halloween mats will increase over the course of the event. I suspect that when the dungeon is released, refined halloween mats will drop enough to bring the cost way way down.
Of all the posts about being disappointed about the update, I think this is the most concise one. You want new skins? Whip out the credit card. Otherwise: nothing. I know that there is more coming later on, but honestly, the entire first phase of this event is a complete non starter.
My gift of the moon (from the recipe I made last year) used the ingredients from last year (such as the TA tokens).
Maybe the new gift of the moon makes a different weapon or an ascended weapon?
Le sigh. I wish they just re skinned the old skin orange or red and called it a new weapon.
If you unlocked the recipe last year, you can still make the weapons, and I don’t think it has been changed, has it? The only recipe which has been changed is the recipe to make the Gift of X recipe sheets. So your gift of the moon will still make a moon shield or whatever its called
Labyrinth is quite boring. Here’s a screen of how awesome it is……
Why have you not picked new stats yet? That’s weird man
Yeah, your point being? They said he would remain. He was still selling his stuff, pretty much next to where the candy corn guy is now (hence why I guess he may have been moved or accidentally removed).
I don’t often say this, but if he was purposefully removed, I will not be happy. I have 1000+ zhaitaffy left that I was keeping to buy food, counting on the fact that he would remain there. If they had announced that he would be removed (as has pretty much always been done in the past with this type of stuff), I would have traded it in…
My point was Zhaiataffy isn’t related to the Blood and Madness event so it shouldn’t have been posted here. Its should have been placed in the players helping players, gw2 discussion, or living story discussion.
That’s an excellent idea if he’d like his post to be completely unanswered by ANET. This forum is really the only one where you can hope to get an ANET reply, because they’re more concerned with how the stuff they just released is faring vs stuff that has been out for a while.
Step 1: Figure out the dps of a rubber stamp 30/0/0/10/30 zerker warrior over a lenght of time equal to the average silver mob in a dungeon.
Step 2: Boost the dps of other damage-focused builds/classes such that they can roughly equal that dps over that length of time. Seem inelegant and arbitrary? Too bad, numbers is all anyone cares about.
Step 3: Make sure the dps lost by someone going into a support build does not horribly tank the whole team’s dps, by boosting the effectiveness of might, fury, condition removal, and other boons, as well as non damaging conditions like vulnerability and weakness.
Ok now you just need to figure out how to make CC not suck balls.
kRiza you obviously haven’t been paying attention to the things people are saying about teq. You think low population servers don’t want to muster up the people and organize? They want nothing more. Its just that they simply cannot do it. There’s not enough people or interest. And even in servers where there’s enough people and interest, you get forced into overflows where there’s not.
Are you perhaps being stomped on?
I managed to get into a main server, probably through sheer stupefying luck. I got all the achievements that required a teq kill, and I got my title. The rewards were garbage and I’ll never do it again. In a few weeks, the only chance you’ll have to complete this event is the first kill after a daily reset, and maybe the one after that. Once the diehards get their daily kill, they’ll leave and the dregs will have no chance at it. And its not like the diehards have any incentive to kill it multiple times a day, because, oops, everything is once per day per account. In a few months, it’ll be a ghost town except for the occasional guild effort.
The only way that would be useful is if a member of a guild were an anchor in the correct overflow, and he let other guild members join up with him in order to hop into the correct overflow. And even then, he could only bring it 4 at a time before kicking them to help more people join. That one little trick is ill equipped to handle anything over a handful of people staying in the same overflow.
If Jormag fails during phase 1, he just gets up and leaves. Nothing else seems to happen.
This is a test of whether you can get lucky and have 6 people who know what they’re doing on the turrets. Beyond that, its the same inane dps fest that we’ve always had.
At least they’ve announced the next living story. I think we can all look forward to the new content that will smooth over this condition kerfuffle.
What about removing the armor piercing ability from the turrets and putting it on the bazookas, along with some new skills. The turrets could be healing and support, with a 1 skill that damages teq, and to replace the 2 skill, an aoe stability on a very long cooldown. The bazookas could be the enemy management, where you take off teq’s scales, and control the adds he spawns with stun, weaken, vulnerability, etc. There could even be a skill that does extra damage to teq’s fingers and/or the bloated creepers. In order to keep the challenge with his armored scales, he can grow scales 5-10x as fast.
I’ve managed to do it fairly easily with swiftness and stability, and I got out alive to boot. Getting there isn’t an issue, I just have no idea if it accomplishes anything.
I agree with you completely.
You forgot one item:
*a zillion people
I played a warrior and became a rubber stamp zerker warrior, just like my father before me and his father before him. However I had Yakkington’s armor for gold farming, and when I had to pick new stats after MF removal, none of the stats seemed any good for me, so I decided to try something new and picked a condition damage stat. I like it but its disheartening to know that its utterly useless in most pve situations. Even in a 5 man dungeon 25 stacks of bleeding is often reached quickly, so why bother? I don’t mind that I can’t make structures bleed, but I should at least make them burn.
I’ve heard that during phase 2 if you plant (use skill 1, not 2) pact explosives near Jormag’s feet, it helps contribute to his stun, but I haven’t been able to find anywhere that confirms this. Is it true, or is it just a waste of time? And if so, what are the explosives supposed to be used for?
it has been suggested before that the buffs work backwards, and control effects do their thing as per pvp until the boss has been hit by a few, and then it becomes immune to those effects for a duration, then back to the start, hey even call it enrage or something, give them a temporary speed/damage boost, give them more/different abilities to use during this period of time, make them call in adds, or make the players do a jumping puzzle style dodge (like the laser room in MF), maybe even make the changes last till a certain condition is met (like the dredge fractal boss being dragged under the molten iron/lava/whatever it is). Suddenly you introduced a new layer of strategy because the players have to plan for the boss’s boosted phase.
You forget how completely worthless it is to stun the boss for 3 seconds, or to interrupt an attack. When you throw in a rage mechanic, people will start to go out of their way to avoid using any control skills at all, lest they accidentally trigger it. People will be kicked from parties if they trigger rage, and certain weapons will be banned outright, like warrior hammer.
(edited by Psycho Robot.7835)
It doesn’t need a nerf. It needs a turret mechanic that doesn’t put 100% of the event in the hands of just 6 people. Once they fix that it’ll actually be possible to beat it without unattainable levels of coordination.
This would be the most elegant solution to a seriously flawed game mechanic. To account for the fact that far more than six players would use the bundles, they could have the effectiveness reduced by several orders of magnitude.
I really don’t see why you can’t transmute the appearance of one type of armor onto another type in the same slot. I don’t see why that wouldn’t work, and its not like there are really any balance issues to worry about. If that was the case I could get a hat that I at least like the appearance of, even if its not a proper wizard hat.
