A possibility to play Ranger without pet.

@Loki the ranger didn’t need buffs to the bow, we were already fine and very much used bow wise, not to mention Escape is still stupid broken in PvE that you could run a Melee build as a ranger primary for almost no drawback cause they can’t touch you, they were just making beast master go from “those crappy skills no one touched when they were serious cause they sucked” to “those skills that are actually pretty good in the right builds” beast masters had their place in PvE post patch, they didn’t take over, and they weren’t as demanded as splinter barrage, but they were there and they were useful.

The same should go for Gw2, being petless should be an OPTION it shouldn’t be the end all be all (and it absolutely won’t, the pet mechanic isn’t BAD in GW2, just unresponsive, which is being fixed, today.), but it should be an option, and imo should complement using a pet and should be more of a “dance” between having your pet out and not having it, obviously being able to trait into using one more than the other, but always using both if you want to be the best you can. (Like a Mesmer, no matter what build, will have to use their shatters and phantasms properly if they want to be the most effective).

@Obsidian if you want big numbers you play a warrior, their entire class is the “we get big numbers!” Thing, rangers are the constant drumming of medium sized numbers that’ll never get quite as big as warriors but will add up to around the same.

Power rangers get big numbers…2.5k auto from lb along with upwards of 7k mauls. Very good burst and very good mobility. Fixing pet responsiveness is going to be huge as well as 2 sigils on lb/gs. Problem, for tpvp, is still thieves.

Thieves aren’t a problem if you know they’re there, if you dodge their initial burst you’ve pretty much won.

And 2.5k isn’t a “big number” +9k is a big number and only warrior and thief really get that, not saying our damage isn’t ridiculous, my rapid fire can easily drop enemy glass builds , not to mention my autos hit really hard and are AUTOs, we are far from weak, people just see a not massive number and think “they clearly do less damage” despite the fact our damage adds up to theirs, if not surpasses theirs, very easily.

Best description of a zerker ranger is an ADC from LoL or other Mobas, we wreck face from ranged, and have some tricks to get away and live, but in team fights we need our team to help keep us safe so we can destroy the enemy team with minimal effort.

2.5k, 1500 units, and on auto attack is huge. Thieves are and will continue to be a problem for power rangers in tpvp. Rangers have very good mobility, but they still can’t compete with thieves.

What are you doing trying to outrun them? That thief NEEDS the fight to end within the first 3 seconds or he’s kittened, if you can live that long you have it in the bag, time your dodges and evades, use LR as an evade + gap opener and not just a Stun breaker and you’ll dominate thieves.

Not to mention if you swap to S/D and say “kitten this we’re fighting it out now” that thief will kittening melt and you’ll take almost no damage due to the evades.

Thieves are my mortal enemy, and are my favorite enemy to fight, I know all their tricks and hunt them down like animals, and I can say 100% the longer a ranger stays up in the fight vs the thief the more and more likely that thief will lose, especially if you throw that thief on their back foot and make them play defensive. That’s when you’ve won.

Not sure what you’re talking about…but you compete with thieves (as a power ranger) for their role on a team. Thieves mobility is exceedingly higher than that of a ranger. A rangers role may differentiate because of their zoning abilities with LB. You can cover so much ground at 1500 units to force cool down usage before someone enters a team fight.

Funny how so many people are acting like the entire class of thief is OP by taking a look at a single, fully traited ability, then ignoring all other aspects of thief as well as how it fits in the current meta. =P

Except you can look at the thief and how it makes others obsolete in filling that same role.

I know the build differences, I stand by what I said. It’s not necessarily a shot towards anyone but more of a compliment to Tage.

It’s shots fired when you say that Guards are pretty easy to kill 1v1 as a Thief except Tage, when that’s not really the case. I can’t imagine even a decent AH guard being killable for you in any sort of reasonable time frame, and I’ll back that up with duels anytime.

It’s more that Tage doesn’t die, at all. Everyone else does.

LET’S DO THIS! Stream it please.

Add to the suggestion, signet of the beastmaster needs to be made baseline. It’s poor design that the ranger is the only profession who has to invest 30 points into a tree in order to be given the “choice” of active/passive signet use that other professions get baseline. Make SotB enhance signets like Written in Stone for elementalists.

One of the biggest things hindering rangers, not only are our pets a pain to deal with (yes it takes a painful amount of time to master using your pet) but when you do use them right, a lot of the things you can do with it are in the name of killing the pet. We could have a good modification of trait and skills where the pet contributes without having to be sacrificed in the process.

If you’re looking to run a true power build, it is mandatory to take SoTB to compete with thieves. There’s no flexibility there. That seems to be the problem, they think your pet SHOULD be a huge help and require management through abilities like SoTB, but in reality it only hinders the players more.

There should be a command to stow or hide pet. Nothing like fighting thieves who always get a free stealth because you can’t make your pet avoid an attack.

If you take anything Backpack says seriously, you’re doing it wrong.

Was this directed at me? If it was, my comment has nothing to do with Backpack’s statement. As a matter of fact I linked to him, his own comments from this thread, in which he said Blu wouldn’t use preference. What I was addressing, was Blu’s comment in that post on how he slotted your team. His explanation, up to this point, did not seem very structured or built on objective criteria.

If it wasn’t directed at me, please ignore.

Did they announce how they selected the 8 reservation teams?

Im going to be adding that on either tomorrow or Wednesday, right now I need to get all of the appropriate information posted for those that got in.

From what I read in the other post all I can say is; that what you have released (as far as the criteria) seemed very suspect at best. I’m hoping that was not the case.

Do we know what all the new Traits are?

Marksmanship: Read the Wind: Longbow and Harpoon Gun projectile velocity is increased by 100%.
Skirmishing: Strider’s Defense – You have a 15% chance to block ranged attacks while in melee.
Wilderness Survival : Poison Master – Poison you apply deals 50% extra damage. Poison your pet’s first attack when they are swapped to.
Nature Magic: Survival of the fittest – Remove two conditions and gain fury when using a survival skill.
Beast Mastery: Invigorating Bond- Your pet heals in an area when executing command abilities (i.e. your F2 skill now heals in an area)

Well, that killed my kitten of hope for the ranger class.

Pets are supposed to get more responsiveness with their f2 abilities. Which will be huge.

Do we need to spend all glory by tomorrow?

in PvP

Posted by: Pyriall.1683

Pyriall.1683

To be clear: before tomorrow’s patch you should open all of your tournament chests, spend all of your glory, and use all of your PvP crafting materials.

Think X armor doesn’t fit your character’s appearance? Craft it anyways and put it in your locker.

:)

Except there is no way you can use all the PvP materials. Whether you open chests or craft gear, you will have to salvage, thus you will get materials.

Please create a npc to trade them.

That has been asked for since the announcement of glory removal. If there wasn’t an NPC added by now, there won’t be one by tomorrow.

One area that I do have a question about is this: What about former players who are coming back to the game post April 15th. What are you going to do to their items? How would they know they needed to get rid of the game?

Do we know what all the new Traits are?

Read the Wind is the new grandmaster trait… and it seems worthless.

No way! Totally wrong! Here’s why:

Let’s say you’re auto-attacking with Longbow from from a distance, so say you’re consistently critting and hitting for 2500 damage.

Let’s also say that you’re attacking once per second.

If an enemy moves or strafes, and you miss two shots out of five, then you miss out on inflicting 5000 points of damage in 5 seconds. And let’s be realistic – no matter how skilled you are, you’re going to miss some longbow shots due to enemy movement.

No other trait can potentially add that much damage (or rather prevent you from losing that much damage) in such a small amount of time. And it’s FREE damage! It isn’t dependent on other skills. It doesn’t have a cooldown. It doesn’t depend on swapping weapons, or dealing with your stupid pet, or any other circumstance. And you can’t wash it away with condition removal.

If you’re hitting high numbers with your longbow, anything you can do to significantly decrease the chance of missing is going to make an enormous difference in your DPS.

Read the Wind is pointless because it competes with Signet of the Beastmaster. If you’re going to play LB/GS power ranger, you are competing with thieves for their role on a team. You need signet for the movement speed increase and signet of stone is too necessary to give up.

Signets

in PvP

Posted by: Pyriall.1683

Pyriall.1683

Signets are supposed to be a choice between a passive and a active ability that provokes thought on whether to use it or not. There are a lot of signets out there that could adjusting, but why is it that rangers have to devote 30 points into a tree just to have the option of a choice? Signet of the Beastmaster needs to be baseline for rangers.

Why not let the bottom seeds play?

@Pyriall

Saying that everyone can participate doesn’t even IMPLY that the tournament won’t be seeded.

Seeding is done, within the tournament, once the competitors have been established. We’re talking about reservations. I have no problem with them seeding teams and setting up the brackets appropriately. I do have a problem with them giving preferential treatment to certain players.

Also, this isn’t just about the “competitive” pvp community. It’s about the bloody pvp community. This wasn’t made just for you.

A Tournament of Legends not for the competitive PvP community? Seeing as only the top 8 get rewarded, how do you figure it’d be at all accurate to include the casual community in there?

Instead of a tournament where you have to compete, I have a proposal just for you, Pyriall.

Instead of single elimination conquest, we should have a contest to see who can hotjoin for the longest without dying IRL. Seeing as you have 74% of your games played as hotjoin, and are rank 63, you should be a shoe-in for the gold.

They stated repeatedly on the RU that it was open to anyone who wanted to participate. Obviously only the top teams will win, so what’s the harm in allowing more to enter?

Your only response to this is to bring hotjoins into this conversation? As if this some how offends me. Well…you know your team gained a lot of ranking steam rolling solo queue players in team queue. I don’t see the difference.
