All you’re doing is encouraging an even more broken play style with even more broken builds. The smaller nodes reinforce tanky/sustain driven builds with huge aoe. You should be able to kite around a point instead of promoting the vomiting of aoe while you face tank everything.

I love Capricorn, but the secondary objective on this map is just falling flat. There needs to be an alternative to point accrual besides sitting on nodes that encourage the use of the whole map. You’re left with a similar feel to that of spirit watch where the objective doesn’t have enough pull to fight over.

This is seriously out of control. Guardians REALLY are not that bad.

There have been plenty of people who play DH who have said the same thing. Far too effective for the effort to play. This has become the replacement for the last few seasons of scrappers.

In my opinion, what makes Guardian so effective right now is the ability to consistently decap a point while fighting your opponent. Is guardian in a better place than before? Yes. Is it OP? Not really.

It is far too effective for the effort to play. Very similarly to the previous seasons of scrappers. You couldn’t tell a good one from a bad one.

I personally enjoyed the deathmatch. It was a break from the usual conquest. No secondary objectives, no pressure of team roltations, just kill or be killed.

It was good and had it been supported as an “arena” type 3 v 3 format, it would have been successful. We had, at the time, many 3 v 3 matches that worked out great on this map.

This is no different than season 2’s necro stacking, and necros in season 2 were infinitely more oppressive when stacked in numbers on a node than DHs that aren’t running full traps.

the only class that doesn’t do much when stacked is eles, but eles in general need a ton of help, they’re the DHs of season 3.

Most hard-core players don’t want pve players…they are just casuals for them…
That’s why people want to gate divisions and legendary backpice (legendary backpack is the reason why season 1 was such smash hit) and ad little elitism to ranked…
On other hand they fail to understand that pvp needs pve to sustain itself (less playerbase=longer ques).

The thing what is important for me is make this game easier TO LEARN. Hotjoins are mess, pro-esl community don’t share wisdom very much (few only stream, to few post here), there is no guides about what rotation is, counters, every thing is needed for noobie to learn hardway (so they pick easy builds ect ect).

Even I having 3 years experience have some problems: ele is bad condition now but I want to compete on the same fair level with other classes. So I decide to reroll for example rev but…my mrr isn’t low…to often I have to fight with pro-league in queues so how I can play safety new class or test new build without lowering my mmr? We all know hotjoins are bad and to chaotic (thank god we have wvw and roaming).

No, hotjoins is exactly where you should be learning to play the profession. Who cares if they are chaotic or a mess when your objective is to get used to the profession.

Courtyard was a great map for death match. It had so much potential and felt very similar to WoW arenas. The main problem was that the map, imo, was best suited for 3 v 3.

And it should have been done similar to WoW, only best of 3 and you had a small prep time in between to change your builds if you needed to. It would have added an additional meta game to the map.

Two main issues with pvp continue to be:
1. Still no appropriate tutorial for new players to learn how to properly play the game.
2. New players being thrown to the wolves with veteran players. This particular issue is extremely kitten ing to the game, because this generally sets off veteran players who then take it out on newer players.

Hot join maps are still buggy. You try to join one it says the map is full, but it’s not. You also randomly get removed from those maps as well.

Some people genuinely have a hard time against DHs but if you’re a good player, you can run through most of the DHs.

There are fewer DHs as you climb higher on the ladder from what I’ve seen so therefore, more build variety (For me at least. For everyone else though, I’m not so sure).

Would you be willing to post a video of you running through some good DH’s? I want to see what you’re doing.

I believe “Match Manipulation” is what you can report them for in this case.

But that doesn’t do anything.

I and everyone else on both teams have been reporting the same thief trying to buy wins in /yell in ranked for the last 2 weeks and I still get queued with him at least twice a day.

Sorry, but this is the result of A-net having limited resources. Screen shots and videos do nothing because they don’t have anyone to look at them.

Please nerf the duration of the stuck bug because I think it lasts too long and the immobilize lasts for too long, which makes the game hard to play. If it is not possible to nerf the duration can you provide an option that turns it off because the immobilize is way too strong.

It’s embarrassing, but they don’t know how to fix it. All of these “talented” programmers, yet not a single one of them has been able to remedy this bug.

Hello everyone,

A few weeks ago we posted a small update on this forum about how we intend to make a number of system changes to improve the PvP league experience. While the bigger changes we’ll be making to leagues won’t be ready in time for Season 4, we’d like to let you know about a change that will be in effect for this upcoming season.

With the start of Season 4, we’ll be returning to Season 1’s style of matchmaking which focuses on creating the most balanced teams from the players queueing within your pip range. This change may widen the skill range of players in each division, but we feel that increased match quality is worth the trade-off of reduced prestige for this season. During Season 2 and 3 we added two league features that greatly impacted your ability to climb: start-of-season division placement based on previous season performance and win/lose streak pips, and both of these features will remain enabled for Season 4.

We’re not at a point where we’re able to discuss the changes we’ll be making to PvP Leagues for future seasons, but making rewards more accessible for casual players and making divisions prestigious and a more accurate indicator of skill are among our highest priorities.

All of those maps suffer from empty space. You need some better secondary objectives to drive fights off point to maximize the size.

Capricorn is far too big for 5 v 5. Spirit and Hammer are very stale in their current format.

I consider this the best modification for the game. It makes players think and play, both at the same time. Now positioning matters, having the first hit matters, fast combinations matter, because everybody is glasscannon.

We are all equal. We are all dps using our abilities for dmg, cc and positioning. That is all there is now.

That is not true. Inherent in some of the profession design is sustain along with damage. Too many professions have huge sustain and damage while others just have damage.

Personally, as a forever elementalist I liked they took those amulets away, but I can’t understand how past almost a year they haven’t made a viable DPS build for us, a shame.

I don’t know is if this a good idea or not, but personally I think they need to rework the stats contribution of each amulet for each class separately.

It’s not just about stats on amulets. Fundamentally the DPS builds, unless they increased damage output so far that you are one shotting someone, cannot compete with builds that have offense/defense built into the same abilities. The other profession’s damaging builds provide so much more than what the elementalist is capable of currently.

Hey folks,

Just a quick reminder: the PvP team is not responsible for profession balance. The PvP team, along with all of the other major feature teams, provides feedback to the skills team, but the PvP team itself is not directly involved in making balance changes.

What we do have control over – however – is the build panel (sigils, amulets, runes). It’s one of the knobs we can use to push gameplay in whichever direction we feel it needs to go for that particular season. For this release, we wanted to take support down a notch and increase the pace of combat.

It’s not our intent to completely remove professions from the meta – but things do fluctuate and I think we need to give the change a bit more time to see how it plays out. Elemental Bastion being bugged since Tuesday certainly has not helped the Tempest situation, but that should be resolved fairly soon and we’ll be able to properly see how ele will fare.

I know many of you fundamentally disagree with the removal of build items – and that’s fine. I understand where you’re coming from, but I hope you understand why we use this as a tool for balancing PvP specifically.

Forget about the removal of the amulet. Elementalist’s damage builds cannot compete with their counterparts. You guys have known about this since the release of HOT. Most of the amulets you introduce cannot be used by the profession because of the low base health.

Overall health of pvp in general is poor. Matches are not competitive it’s 19 times out 20 either do the the stomping or get stomped. Also most of the loud potion of the noncompetitive sPvP community lobbied so hard for Solo queuers to be used as fodder, so I’d honestly say around %90 of the decent and up solo queuers moved on to other actually competitive small structured Team Based PvP games as I have as well.

On top of the low population more then half of the players currently playing sPvP or more toxic and childish then most LoL players, which in it’s own right is a impressive achievement, tho prevents most causals from wanting to doing anything in sPvP other then the daily lobbies. If you read a few post on previous post on the forums about how to jump start GW2 sPvP again, you’ll see that most got shot down by the few players that enjoy effortless wins due to the past, present, and more then likely future iterations of the match maker system.

In conclusion, all that’s left in GW2’s PvP game mode are highly toxic, noncompetitive players and matches. The only semblance of competitiveness in GW2’s sPvP are the ESLs on twitch, and the public ran community league events. I don’t even know if players are bothering with that anymore.

I’ve also found greener pastures for myself as a solo queuer so for ANet to pull me and my kind back to the game, they would have to pull what we would called in Eve Online a “Jesus Patch”.

After the hell with the carrot and the stick I went thru for Seasons 1-3 before I realized that I just don’t care enough to play and queue with these kids hoping against hope that this will be their chance to become ‘pro videogamers’ instead of getting a job, I’m not ever going to play ranked again. Unranked is fun enough, and not a crap show.

Well, if they do something like last season where where you left off determines a starting point, I might queue to get my Amber ticket and add to the 5 I have left just for the basic mini-llama, but I’m not really going to try in that one match, and then leave ranked forever.

Except I don’t even like the thought of that, so I might just spend those 5 I have left now on junk to remove the idea.

Yeah, I’ll stick to WvW and Unranked, where I actually enjoy it, win or lose.

As (rightly) pointed out here many times, most people are not the ‘pro gamers’ skill level. But kitten if they won’t scream at me for ruining their dreams because I can’t support their 1v4 at mid.

If you enjoy something that you lose, then you shouldn’t be playing with people who want a more competitive environment (right or wrong). So, you would be correct in staying and enjoying WvW and unranked.

Single Or Multiple PvP Classes

Hi, I’ve been playing GW2 pvp for the passed few months after switching over from pushing wow 3’s for a few years. In WoW it was generally better to just get really good at one class or maybe 2 but I feel like it could be different in gw2. Is it better to just have a class or 2 to push or is it better to play several? thanks for the help.

The game is easy enough to pick up and without the level grind you can play as many professions as you want and get good at them. There is no reason to limit yourself to one or two when all are easily accessible.

IMO unranked is nothing more than 5 v 5 hotjoin without forced auto balance. You should go in there expecting the same quality of match ups.

Which brings me to the population decline. In hotjoin, at peak hours, you have less than 40 players in all of the custom arenas. There is just overall less people playing the game.

No, I’m dreading it. Most of all, I am afraid ANET is going to say that matchmaking went well in S3 and just needs a few tweeks. The level of exploiting by teams was awful.

I have 3 divisions to cross for the kittening wings. Then I can leave “leagues” to the voice enabled teams and let them use someone else for a whipping girl.

How many players do you think actually queue up using any type of communication? You have such a distorted view of what actually is going on and make so outlandish claims without anything to support them.

To be fair there are variations of condi-thief that do use off hand pistol. My variation uses p/p and sb. SB is the main weapon and p/p is for utility.

There are no NPC pirates in this map that interact with players. The secondary mechanic is a periodic 4th capture point (“The Bell”) that awards increasing team score.

There was probably some confusion because once the bell is captured, there is an awesome sequence of cannons blowing up the pirate ship. This is only for flavor, though.

Was there anything changed to the “BETA” maps? I thought the purpose of “BETA” was to test and implement changes. So far, we have had the same map without any adjustments to test. All of the same issues, that have been reported, are still prevalent in each map.

In fact, quite a few posters on this forum have talked about doing exactly what I describe.

You have “screenshots of AN ESL player…” That’s your evidence to support your position? A single ESL player and you want the community to believe it is as pervasive as you suggest. I don’t understand this kind of thinking.

To be clear, there is a question of whether or not this is happening. Absent substantial evidence, an implication simply doesn’t become reality.

Buff Defense for Hammer Guardian

The 3rd Hammer Auto Attack (for Guardian, Symbol of Protection) should Block while activating.

This would make the 1 1/4 sec cast time viable in PvP:
(right now your just prone to damage/cc from long cast time)

Mighty Blow should also have some defensive property while activating (like Scrapper) such as reflect projectile or something.

The last thing this game needs is more defensive abilities added to offensive ones.

The choice of “hardcore” style pvp players would have to be team queue. That group is too small to support pvp on it’s own.

GW2 is a casual game. Witness ANET’s effort to attract pve players to pvp. No, if one could choose only team or solo, then solo would be the logical choice.

@ROC I’ve been an avid dungeon runner for a long time. When I first started, I’d often find myself kicked from a party without explanation.

Later I learned that I had been rejected because it was considered my gear wasn’t adequate or I had made some mistake. Or I simply wasn’t a geared out 80.

I have Dungeon Master and know a couple of the runs like the back of my hand. Still, on my alt account thief I couldn’t get into a party. She hadn’t made 80 yet.

For this reason, I am careful to make my lfg “all welcome” When I lead groups. Countless times I’ve heard players wonder why they couldn’t get on a party or got kicked. It still happens in places like Arah.

There are few if any randoms running raids. I tried but was kicked after I made some error that was never explained. This was on one of my main account Mesmers, in full ascended gear, ( including Wings of Dwayna, ironically.)

With the attitude in pvp, it would very quickly become a situation of only select players ever getting on a team.

What would the rejected players do? They’d leave. All team is a disastrous scheme and I fervently hope anet is clearsighted enough to see that.

With your mindset, why even play the game at all? According to you, if you simply show up to something enough you should be rewarded with top tier items. I don’t want to beat the dungeon/raid; just give me the phat lewts because I’m here.

I dislike the idea of all team for a couple of reasons;

Teams carry. If the goal is to test the skill of the player, that goal is distorted by the addition of teams. This is especially true when a team goes against randoms.

On a practical level, I was always last to be picked for teams. Why would I want to relive that in GW2?

Philosophically, GW2 is allegedly about heroes. Almost by definition, a hero is a loner.
I don’t want to be beholden to a “commander.” That view is shared by many, I think.

The “Guild Wars” were a specific period of Tyrian history. King Adelburn helped end that if memory serves, before The Searing. This is why the franchise has always been about the player alone or in a small group.. be that henchies or a dungeon party.

Insisting on teams will drive away anyone perceived as not good enough to team. This type of elitism can only hurt the game.

You’re the poster child for everyone gets a trophy. If you don’t want to be picked last at something, then improve. My goodness…

Section 5: Article 3: Necromancer Life Force-As related to the generation of life force pre-match. The generation of life force via summon and dismissal of minions, attacking objects, or change of utilities is strictly prohibited. All matches must begin as the game was designed with zero life force. Any attempt to game the system will result in immediate disqualification.

There is one right there…only “legit” tournaments and duelists follow these rules.

You’re mistaken. By definition, a healer will be able to tank. That’s one of the primary functions of healing.

The full healer ele does laughable damage. It’s also highly vulnerable to conditions and cc.

I dont understand what is ppl trying to argue here when every single duel server/legit wvw duels agrees that the starting LF of a necro should be around 20%

People who try to invalidate another person’s point of view by adding statements such as “…legit” are completely naïve. I can come in here and say the same exact thing to invalidate anything else that would follow from you. Guess what? It doesn’t work. “every legit and respectful dueler agrees you should start with 0 lf.” See how that works?
