Especially with the supposed nerf to treb shots through doors, and likely AC damage through doors to follow, sup rams with masteries on gates is going to be even more OP than it already is.
The whole point of defensive siege is to slow/stop superior numbers.
Making doors the first upgrade would help. Otherwise they will need design new siege or effects to slow down rams.

This makes me really nervous. They already nerfed cata’s through the gate, now trebs, next AC’s? It’s going to be nearly impossible to defend towers against sup rams with mastery now.
The whole point of siege is to delay/stop forces with superior numbers.
The only acceptable solution I think will be to make doors the first upgrade. Upgrading walls first is silly since no one goes for walls when doors are paper.

After they fixed it the first time it was really good for a long time. You could have 3way fights in smc with almost no lag.
Since the last few patches however its gotten a lot worse where any 40v40 has a potential to lag out the servers.

I’m on FA and I am quite sure that everyone wants to drop to silver league to have proper matches. So expect WvW on FA to be dead until season 2 starts.
This guy is either a troll or not from any major wvw guild. As such he does not represent the view of FA’s major wvw guilds.
No one on FA wants to tank to silver and play pvd league. We want to stay where the best fights are, which right now is in tier 2.
The unfortunate reality is that we have no night time presence compared to that of SoS and Mag, as OP says. For that reason alone we are in danger of dropping to tier 3.

Same here. Zerker guardian dps them the whole time while standing in the bonus damage circles. Got even credit but no loot.

Welcome to FA! Don’t worry about FA going to tier 1. This won’t happen for the foreseeable future. If you are playing during NA prime, I would suggest joining a wvw guild. Unless you want to mostly roam, you won’t always find a commander tag on map.

Yep. Doesn’t matter if it’s contested or not. If you try to port from one map to a waypoint other than spawn on another (eg hills, garrison, eb keep, smc), it will always send you to spawn. Happened with the eotm patch. Not sure if bug or feature.

The worst offenders are ones where you can’t move and can’t use skills and where you can glitch inside towers/keeps. Also ressing downed players through gates.

I think it really depends on the server. Some groups can be filled with strong wvw guild players on off-raid times.
When you are in a guild group, your builds and parties are highly theory crafted and synergized and using every skill properly matters.

I’ll add one:
If you get immobilized while moving, sometimes you will end up bouncing around unable to use skills until you tell your character to stop moving.
This is a pretty comprehensive list. While some of them are mere annoyances, others are completely game-breaking.
Being stuck, unable to use skills, stuck in terrain/walls, not getting credit for events despite doing everything possible to contribute to the event are all pretty game-breaking.
As for the stuck bug from building siege, it happens when the siege building completes when you are still in the animation to build it. The game thinks you are still in the animation, but no longer actually building it. Sometimes it goes away when the animation would have normally finished, sometimes it doesn’t.

Nothing can be done to change the way ppt is calculated. The problem is ppt itself, and it’s perception.
PPT is meaningless. The rewards for “winning” in ppt are nothing. Zero. Occasionally getting a 4th iron ore when I mine? Hurray!
Moreover the ppt winner is generally determined by which server has the best coverage. No SEA coverage? No EU coverage? Well too bad cuz your enemy has a 60 man blob running around at 4am server time taking all your t3 towers and keeps.
Handicapping ppt or having it scale with population is something that has been suggested since beta, and is obviously something that anet will never implement. Which is a good thing.
If you want to compete in the ppt game, it is up to your server to recruit guilds to cover your weak spots.
The best thing anet can do is encourage server pop balance. This is something that came up constantly in the CDI and yet Anet never addressed it.
TLDR: The sooner you stop caring about ppt, the faster you will truly enjoy wvw.

Elen Kiel was supposed to have built air defenses in light of the revelation Scarlett was going to attack LA.
Where was this air defense? Scarlett’s airships basically walked into LA with no contest.
I wonder if Gnashblade could have defended LA better…

With the upcoming removal of glory, many of us have questions that we hope will be answered in the Ready Up stream today. Here’s my list:
1) What will happen to the reward chests many of us have stockpiled? Will they contain any new items after the update (the reason many of us were stockpiling them)?
2) What will happen to all the glory boosters we have not been able to use?
3) What will happen to all the spvp armor we have accumulated? (elaborate on the spvp <-> pve armor conversion). How will pvp armor be acquired in the future?
4) Will the glory vendor have new items after the updates?
5) What will happen to pvp crafting materials?
6) Will this patch have retroactive rank rewards?
Feel free to add your own questions if I miss any.

When Eotm is reseting, you cannot join any wvw map. Anywhere. Even if you are already in wvw. You can’t even switch maps. This is horrible. Anet pls fix. Basically you can time your kittenaults on enemy keeps at the moment eotm is reseting to prevent ANY reinforcements from coming to the map. Eotm should be an overflow, not something that breaks wvw completely.

Several times today after the recent patch, my guild was trying to join wvw or switch borderlands and it kept saying “WvW is unavailable while matches are being updated.” This happened for several hours after the patch, even while everyone was in wvw, just trying to change maps. Does wvw go on lockdown while the EotM matches are being reset? If so, fix this. We almost lost our garri because nobody could get into an outnumbered map.

One of the most attractive things about gw2 pvp has always been it’s ease of access. Everyone starts on equal footing. You’re basically telling new players and new spvp players they can’t play the builds they want until they unlock stuff. Not a good move.

I like pretty much everything in wvw so I just mention a couple things I dislike:
Dislike:
1) Waypoints: thieves tapping gates keep waypoints contested, spawning entire map zergs when the timer runs out.
2) Commander functionality: horribad. See CDI thread.

I was thinking about siege in wvw and what some interesting counter-siege equipment could be.
1) Introduce golem mastery. Remove the shield bubble from golems and instead make it a rank 5 in golem mastery. Reasoning: Golems already have a metric craptonne of health and having shield bubbles on top of that makes counter-siege difficult.
2) Rework ballista mastery. This is not (really) an anti-infantry weapon, and as such spread-shot is a terrible skill. This is much more effective as an anti-siege weapon. Introduce a new skill: penetrating bolts. Bolts are unblockable and ignore seige bubble.
3) Introduce a new siege equipement: siege-bubble generator. Costs 40 supply. It has two skills: i) Slow time. Lasts 5? seconds on a 30? second recharge. Increases the recharge on ram abilities by 66% and reduces golem attack speed by 50%. ii) generate siege bubble. Lasts 3 seconds on a 30 second recharge.

My opinion: Waypoints should only be contested when the inner gate is being damaged. At that point, it will be permanently contested. This will fix 2 things: 1) thieves tapping gates continuously to keep waypoints contested or trebs hitting smc walls and 2) waypointing entire map blobs into lords when the enemy has already breached inner.
Right now the problem is that the waypoint is linked to the event status on the keep. The even status is easily triggered by just a small amount of damage to the outer gate, and leaves a ‘dead period’ in between the 3min event timers where the waypoint becomes accessible for a few seconds. It’s just bad mechanics imo.

Grouch recently posted in the spvp subforums that no balance changes will be implemented until after the completion of the Scarlet living story arc.
Does this mean that no changes will be made to anything wvw-related until then as well?
If so that is extremely disappointing.
IMO, and though I may be naive, account bound wxp is something that shouldn’t be overly difficult to do and would be a huge change to wvw, something that everyone who plays wvw has been asking for for months and months.
I’m starting to feel as neglected as the dungeon community, and that’s saying a lot.

Leaping can be used very effectively to jump past the head of the enemy group and land in their tail. Doing so out of a water field or into a static will give a personal heal or daze the target. However your driver must use this with caution as this will effectively separate your group into leapers/non-leapers. As a ranged character you have two options at this point: 1) kite around the edge to keep damage focused on the driver 2) dodge/teleport/invuln with your driver. In open field kiting and saving your cooldowns is usually the better option if you’re good at predicting where the enemy group will move. In close quarters and chokes generally you have no choice but to use option 2. Positioning is the most important thing casters can learn.

We don’t run the hammer train meta and still wipe hammer train guild groups.
Cool vid but all I see is a lack of warriors. Still stacking guardians, eles and necros. Stacking guardians with hammer/staff or hammer/greatsword is 75% of the hammer train meta.

My list. Note this ranking does not reflect the number of each class I want, simply their importance to effectve wvw battles.
1) Guardian. Most people agree here. The ability to share boons, especially stability, area denial in wards and good combo finishers makes them the cornerstone of wvw.
2) Ele. Some may disagree here, but good water rotations will power your zerg through battles. Area cc, lots of aoe and boon sharing make ele almost as important as guardians.
3) Warriors and necros. Area cc and party condi clears and offensive buffs. Banner res and boon removal.
4) Mesmer. Great utility in reflects, focus pulls, veils, boon stripping, mass invis, timewarp.
5) Thief. The perfect scout. Can also give nice buffs to group with venom shares.
6) Engis. Secondary water fields and lots of condi application but lacks in sustained cc.
7) Rangers. Good water field on their heal and good access to aoe immobilize but otherwise unremarkable.

Haha yeah we kind of had to suicide them because we were completely seige capped. It wasn’t as fun as we would have hoped because there was almost no one on the map. maybe 15 mags showed up to defend their keep. 60 omegas is almost always a bad, and expensive, idea.
