Woow what’s up with the replies to that thread. I didn’t really want to send in pics with my potato graphics but I think I’ll try to get some of TA done today. Probably no videos or animations though.
didnt dekeyz showed math that mace was just as good as sword?
No it showed it was almost as good, but people use it as justification to use mace.
It’s pretty kitten good justification if you ask me. GS + Mace/Focus is around 1% less dps than GS + Sw/Focus in a 30sec fight. It’s better in a shorter fight. Sword give you a blind. Mace give you healing and a block, but can screw up might blasting.
They are both top weapons.
“1% less dps” Best case? Worst case? Average case? Thats important info, theres a consistency gap between mace and sword.
Got served by a greatsword mesmer in zerk only CM.
‘If you knew anything about mesmer you would know that GS is good for certain situations’
I guess all of CM was a good situation for this. >_>
that’s what all GS mesmers use as their excuse
“GS is good for certain situations”
well please name these situations

432 to actually do some damage before bosses die
Your info is a bit vague but on high buffs a swordsman should put out around 1,5-2k dps while up.
On the carrier you can use ground targeting before combat to drop a double wall and stability ward before getting in combat. Stability ward helps keeping the parties dps up. I pull the dredge below the ledge so their grenade attacks hit the wall above them because of their arcing flight. That way theyre never reflected, the dredge shouldnt die and the cart shouldnt burrow.
If youre doing double wall, shield of the avenger, another wall, did the pull and your party still cant kill the cart in time theres not much else you can do other than hoping someone else throws some projectile defense.
I don’t know if it makes sense to break down the classes so much.
Edit: nvm, the (+) thing with their own subcategories looks much better
Great attitude there, buddy. Really makes us want to help you.
idk why you think i was asking for help, i was just asking for opinions here because i like discussion. if id think air was an actual contender for night or much better than frailty or accuracy id just go online and properly test it myself.
@maha for gods sake did you even read the first sentence of my post? i am aware of what options there are.
10/10, made me write an angry response, congratulations. thanks to everyone for answering to this thread.
You’re better off just taking force/night or force/slaying.
oh really, 10% unconditionally is better than possibly 10% or less? now you just blew my mind.
now lets assume im not kittened, am aware of this and im looking into what sigils i could put on a
general purpose weapon
as i wrote, which you surely read. making 1289379 different asc weapons is definitely not an option and who actually bothers changing sigils for every single thing they do. if youre talking about just putting night on for everything and ignoring half the game being daytime then i dont even know how thats related to my questions?
You could say the exact same about say frailty as well and i agree that there is almost no scenario where youd drop force. What about force/air though.
Between force, night, slaying, frailty, strength, accuracy the air sigil is rarely being mentioned as being a legit alternative for meta berserker builds.
Quick testing i just did showed that the wiki coefficient for lightning strike (1,2)XpowerX(exotic?)weapon strength of current weapon/2600 roughly matched up with the numbers i was getting on the testing golem. The sigil trigger cannot crit, however it is influenced by power (hence might) and trait damage mods. vuln also seemed to be working. I didnt check equipment modifiers such as force and scholar, though id expect them to work as well. Putting those numbers for example on a max buffs 45005 guard nets a good 3k per trigger potentially every 3-4 seconds, thus adding 1k-0,75k dps to the build.
now with sigil of air bringing an absolute number towards the build rather than a relative increase like the 5% of force it might be stronger on the lower end of dps range such as guards or maybe rangers. The advantage it brings over night, frailty and strength would be that it can be used everywhere and will always be a dps increase even if youre decked out on buffs. Its probably even the best sigil against structures, so yay. e: <- cut that, cant crit structures
(
considering a 45005 guard does only 8-9k dps the added 1k would be a rough 10% increase if you trigger it on cooldown (still 8% or so if you assume a trigger every 4 seconds), making it stronger than force even considering its multiplicative nature. if youre fgsing the other sigils are obviously a better choice but luckily only like 90% of pve is being fgsed, right?
Eitherway ill point out again that i did not test this very thoroughly so the sigil might not behave as i wrote it does. if you did test it and would like to confirm/correct me please go ahead. considering the current fgs meta i would probably stick with my force/frailty or force/accuracy combo for general purpose weapons, however assuming sigilair does work as i described it i would like to hear your opinion as to why its rarely mentioned in guides and the like.

cool, by the time lv100 amulets come out i might even have the money to buy some +5 infusions
I’m already expecting new infusions.
Pretty sure there were some +6 or +7 stat infusions in one of those data mining posts some time ago.

yup thats a bug that happens sometimes. there is a way to fix it but i forgot it.. i think it was about some other person in the party leaving the instance as well.
wait, are you saying na pugs arent horrible?
might be common knowledge but i actually stumbled on skale venom applying weakness and vuln on self just now. im pretty sure this happens on any projectile that bounces back to yourself, ive been able to reproduce this on mes staff 1 and guard focus 4. ive seen it happen on ele during mightstacking as well, probably from phoenix.
has this always been this way?

From the other thread.
If you want an easy time you have to zap them before they aggro on anything. They come about halfway into the room on autopilot before aggroing anything. If you zap them before they locked onto a target they show a much shorter reaction time. Hence, if you zap them right before they search a target theyll run straight to the boss. So to get them to the boss reliably:
1. Wait until the golem ran almost halfway to the boss
2. Zap him, keep your character looking towards the golem so the ray doesnt break
3. Kill thorns while waiting for the next golem to spawn (because if you zap a golem next to thorns he will immediatwly blow up)
If theres thorns growing at a really unfortunate time so you cant possibly kill them before the golem runs out act like this:
1. Position yourself close to the middle plateau
2. Wait until the golem runs up to you, doesnt matter if he sits down apready
3. Zap him now, since youre so close to the husk one ray is enough even with their slow reaction time. Alternatively shove him, however keep in mind that they will get stuck on the hexagons corners.
General things to watch out for:
- dont panic, even after golems go into explosion mode you still have plenty of time to zap him or to sidewalk out of the red circle
- dont run around in circles around the boss, even though it doesnt matter if everyone is properly pulling the golems it doesnt help anyone if you do run in circles
- if someone else zaps your golem shortly after you do, this will cause the golem to brainlag and likely not make it all the way to the boss. Dont panic, just prepare to shove the golem towards the boss. After that yell at the pug to get their own corner
- dont break your characters line of sight with the golem while zapping them, as this cancels the skill (so dont turn 180º while zapping)
- remember to tag the boss for champloot
Projectile absorption as it is in the game can never be balanced, its either very op or very up. Thats tied to the core of this games design, no easy fix to that.
Id rather have it consistently up than having some ranged bosses be cheesed by some classes and having them not work for no visible reason on others. Just give absoeption piercing as another trait to unshakable or something.
Then again, why bother with balance as long as fgs is in game.
A good group, or at least a good party leader, will roll for swamp while waiting for the party to fill up.
Wat? A good group/party leader will roll character according to what pugs he gets, duh.
People seemed to be getting showered in asc drops during the first days after update, right now it seems back to normal (someone gets healers gloves every 5 runs or so). Makes me wonder if there is a regenerating lootpool if you dont play for a while, see coe lodestones.
One way or another at this pace it would take me a year or more of multiple daily fractal runs to equip one single character with asc stats of my choice, not even talking about multiple weapon sets. Even if you draw a “good” drop, which happens somewhat reliably, its probably still useless due to stat lottery.
Obviously anet doesnt want everyone decked out in ascendeds anytime soon but why bother putting them into fractals at a tiny chance for the rights stats when you can just throw money at it. If anet replaced all ascended drops with say 50 dragonite ore that would probably get me more ascended items in the same timeframe.
When I specify LINK YOUR GEAR in capital letters on my lfg and 7/10 people joining say “hi” and nothing more and 2/10 people ask something like “you want to see my gear?”
When I ask for melee zerker, zerker with proper runes, meta dps, dps ele or anything like that on my lfg and I have to kick upwards of 20 people every time I make a group just because theres so many people that dont care I dont want to play with them.
The amount of “exp zerkers” in game that are neither exp nor zerker and are giving everyone a bad reputation.
What bugs me the most is the poor party leadership system. Its come to a point where forming a proper group takes me somewhere between 30-60 minutes, and this is largely due to people blocking the lfg while taking 2 minutes to link their pvt gear of melandru, being kicked, then joining again (deleting the lfg again) to tell me omg why was i kicked ive got zerker trinkets/you need support/reported :)/ive got enough dps/youre all stupid elitists. Then I have to kick them again, hoping that my teammates are still awake, not afk and did not change zones while I voted for kicking so someone can confirm it.
Because creating a party is super exhausting in this game. Youre taking a leadership role without having proper party leading tools at hand. Plus theres tons of immature people that cant read. WTB gw1 party system.
I usually need a few days break after making my own party just because its so frustrating.
Does seaweed salad work now? Last thing i heard was that its bugged, but that was long ago and I didnt check myself.
It will change a little bit after april 15th, when crit damage will get nerfed. They devs said that a berserker build will get a 10% dps decrease with the changes, but i’ve seen some people claiming that the reduction may get to something like 30% in some cases (like eles with lightning hammer and spotter and banner of discipline and so on…).
But i think the nerf is fair, because with ascended weapons a berserker build could get +12% dps because how crit damage scales so well with the extra stats, so this brings the ascended gear down to the same dps as exotic in the past.
The “10% reduced damage” refers to lazy zerker builds with no damage support.
The nerf itself is very lazy too, instead of bothering with improving AI and mechanics, brainafk soldier builds are getting favoured. Every direct damage spec, that includes those who wear soldiers/sentinels got a decent damage increase with the introduction of ascended items. It’s not like only ascended zerker would yield extra stats and especially increased weapon damage, which is a big factor in the increment of damage. The nerf to zerker is by no means “fair”, it is just lazy.
Ele damage will suffer even more. There may be some improvements towards ele survival in the future, but that barely matters for a decent dungeon player; if you were not able to run zerker on ele before the change, you wont be able to roll zerk after the change either. So really answering the OPs question, no nothing has changed, things will even get worse with the april 15 patch. Exploits and even hacks as it seems with hotw are beeing tackled with bandaid fixes, adding in some walls or changing/breaking some bosses, instead of proper fixing.
The fact that gw2 combat is broken beyond repair aside, crit damage normalization is actually a good step into the right direction. Your post just reads like youre upset anet is stealing your lollipop.
Requiring 3+ people to kick would make creating parties with requirements too much of a hassle to bother with it. Im sure some people would like that. Id stop playing if that happens, avoiding the clueless, trolls and dumbs is already too exhausting enough with the party controls we have now.
Wow. I thought Mai Trin was one of the fights people have been asking for. Needs some skill and class knowledge. One tactic doesn’t fit all classes. Can’t be destroyed with pure dps. Needs some teamwork. Good design must really irritate bad players.
If the target audience doesnt like it it doesnt matter how well designed something is. Besides, mai trin frac isnt good design. Its got some good ideas but overall it turned out quite annoying. Its the dredge of boss fractals.
Swapping to knights armor with soldier runes for this fight on my guard basically glues her aggro + cannonguys electric shot aggro onto yourself for the whole fight. Its rather helpful, as the fight isnt much of a dps race compared to any other fight.
Two things happened:
A) You usually had people in your party that pulled the groups weight and carried those that contributed little. This time your party was missing reflects, condition removal, stability and/or damage.
B) Team chemistry was wrong/people had a bad day. Sometimes groups just dont work for various reasons.
Both of these happened at some ratio.
I cant rule out that anet just stealth patched that path to hell because I havent been there since the last patch but its probably not the case.
AC is quite difficult due to the fact the Queen Spider is a wipe for most parties that don’t know how to mitigate the damage. You have to stack in a certain corner and do not move one bit otherwise you trigger her deadly lethal poison.
You dont have to stack in a certain corner to avoid the aoe, any corner works. In fact you dont need to stack in a corner at all, you just need to stay in melee range. You can also move around as much as you want as long as you stay in melee range, the queen will not use the poison aoe. Reason people stack in that corner is because its easy, convenient and gets all spider adds on a single spot. Youre just giving fuel to the people who think stacking is the devil itself if you make it sound like stacking renders the queen completely helpless.
Never drop banner of defense as a warrior, even if all the other banners are taken by others.
Stopped reading there
That’s actually one of the better things there. Defense and Tactics banners are useless. Bring a might signet for more DPS instead.
You must have missed the part where defbanner is strong at what it does for little investment and is a well used slot on any fight with continuous pressure.
I may have an unpopular opinion here, but I find that bringing a tank/support character when pugging makes the runs go much smoother. My friend and I don’t have a full time dungeon group, but we like to farm dungeons, so we end up pugging all the time. I run an off-meta zerker necro, and he runs an AH Pillar guardian. With some adjustments to normal meta strategies to take advantage of the tank, we only need half-conscious pugs.
So youve given up on ever having really good runs, in favor of having mediocre runs at worst. Whatever floats your goat.
Never drop banner of defense as a warrior, even if all the other banners are taken by others.

Ive had best pug results specifying “link traits” or “write out your traits” in the lfg. Its slower than gearchecking though, and quite a bit more exhausting. I also got the feeling that im missing out on good players that are too shy to ask what i mean.
There is some balancing, its called downscaling. Nevertheless you are not pulling the same weight as a fully geared lv80 with traits, not talking about your missing experience with the class.
The solution is to make your own party with your own requirements. The solution is not expecting anet to make people go out of their way for you, or anet making underleveled characters as strong as lv80s.
I know the clones are not fun to deal with while alone if they don’t los fast enough and running away to reset the boxes might either make the boss reset or get you hit by a stray ball.
But why people keep complaining about that pull? It has a very clear tell you can usually see in most scenarios anyways. How do you deal with mage crusher in p3 with that poison attack that has both a minimal tell and hits you almost instantly? Oh you spam reflects. Well guess what you can use for alphard.Simple, we kill him with a trident.
Making the boss twice as big would be an alright bandaid if theyre into aoes that make no sense visually. Bonus points if they make reflects work reliably (or never) and fix the guardian virtue burn.
Reflects are reliable, just make sure that no one (or any npcs/pets/etc.) are standing directly inside her circle.
Are you sure it works that way? My pugs usually push inside of her and i still reflect fine most of the time. Also keeping track on whether pugs put their toes inside a hitbox to check if my reflect will work isnt exactly reliable.
so could some1 explain properly how a ranger would deal more or better sustained dps than a warrior or guardian or thief within a 10 seconds timeframe? that would be great.
I don’t think that’s how sustained works.
edit: and it doesn’t matter either way. you bring warrior for banner (and ea). you bring ranger for spotter/spirit.
Well it does matter, if the boss dies within a burst phase of 5-10 seconds the chunk of damage that is guard burst dps minus ranger dps might pull ahead of the chunk group dps with spotter+frostspirit minus group dps without those. Might not be the case for guards and warriors within 10 seconds, but maybe for ele.
Making the boss twice as big would be an alright bandaid if theyre into aoes that make no sense visually. Bonus points if they make reflects work reliably (or never) and fix the guardian virtue burn.
It’s neither hard nor long with a theif. It would be a good fractal if the dredge stopped spawning out of the clowncar once the champ is dead.
No.
This makes me wonder how those people with full defensive gear and build in my groups still manage to die :-/
Luckily the tar waypoint activates on p3, where its very effective at confusing pugs :-D
On a side note, while the linked CoE video is very detailed and mostly correct on the mechanics as far as I watched, their actual tactics in fight are horrible and represent the pug standard of 2012. I would recommend you to watch a more recent guide on top.
We had CC on bosses in GW1, and we did fine!
Just saying.
Most of the fights in gw1 pve were group vs group.
Just saying.
Only real gw2 style bossfights we had in gw1 were lich, shiro, shiro+lich and dhuum (being released as one of the last additions to the game). All of those had knockdown immunity, condition and hex duration on them reduced and op monster skills.
In gw1 cc was a scarce resource and almost always went along with a harsh cut in group dps.
I didnt say it was an exploit? ^^
Definitely a problem though. If anet ever wanted something like balance that is.
why do you call it exploit? its an ability of a profession and even anet said people are allowed to use it to kill tequatl.
Satire.
There is one guild that genuinely thinks it’s an exploit, and it isn’t DnT.
You should say there was one since those who think that kinda quit GW2 some months ago.
The only exploit I see with FGS is Fiery Rush + Blink / Lightning Flash coz that way the animation bugs out. I see no problem using it against a wall.
Yeah, a single skill that outputs so much damage anything except for a well timed reflect (with op monster base damage) pales in comparison is no problem at all ^^
Night (and slaying) trumps all, if it applies.
Force and Accuracy are both fairly strong, where force usually is slightly better. But where force gives a fairly rare buff that you want to stack every bit you can get your hand on, accuracy offers a bonus that you only need a limited amount of that can be aquired from various sources. If you dont have to choose between them, force and accuracy is a good choice.
Battle is a strong sigil, though i am not a fan of it. Might is easily over saturated, especially with classes like ele and engineer.
As for bloodlust vs perception, try to get as close to 100% critchance as possible by any means. Classes that have a lot of points in their precision traitlines with big +% critchance traits like guardian and assassin dont need lots of extra precision and can take bloodlust. Other classes usually do better with perception.
