Actually earlier this evening in soloq, this ele was popping up next to me and bursted me down twice in ~1.5 sec (was playing a glass bs thief) (im not the best of thieves :p). I also observed him to be continuously fighting at mid, backing off, healing up and rejoining the fight.

So hats of to you- mysterious sneaky ele player!

True, a lot of condition specs are way too tanky- while still having great access to damage (condis) and aoe cleave.

The trouble may be due to:

1) The only requirement for good condition damage is condition damage itself. Power damage requires power and at the very least a good amount precision and some crit damage.

2) While condis can be cleansed, most power based attacks have better animations and are easier to dodge and are affected by protection.

Hey there.

The matchmaking was recently changed and the leaderboards ratings were reset. A lot of people seem to agree that new-ratings are a bit high, hence you’ll probably be fine when your rating adjusts.

The build you linked is a good one, so keep practicing and trying to improve! Sometimes you will have terrible luck! Which can’t be helped…In this case I advise taking a break :p (from personal experience it really helps).

Have a look at each class, and play the one that strikes you most. If you pick an ‘op’ class- it might get nerfed… And also, if you play a less op class- welldone, you’ll be actually learning how to play faster.

Good suggestions! A greyed out marked with low priority of showing would be a great (and simple fix?) QoL

Sometimes it is a bit misleading, and if one doesn’t always check the health bars, one can lose a few critical seconds to misinformation.

I’ve been playing lots of HoT join this weekend and think it’s in a terrible state.

Where as it was always a zergy chaotic experience it’s now often a gank fest.

Actually, it feels better than in the previous months. Points are being capped and ninja’d at twice the rate, splitting up zerging. Also I’ve been noticing much more bunkering and tanky builds, also countering zergy behaviour.

However you are quite right- it does little to cater to very new players.

While I still don’t like how the spirits work, the build isn’t as OP as it was (apart from OP screen clutter), however I think it is very viable.

Also, BM is still decent in my opinion for 1v1 type play or backpoint holding (although it had been nerfed), I use it when I play ranger, and I manage quite ok.

Having said that

Since things didn’t go as well as expected, it would be unwise to start hyping esports too much.

It’s great that since the last patch, the pvp base has grown somewhat! I’m hopeful that with the new pvp roadmap, if changes don’t come about too slowly, it might continue growing.

From what I understood- you’ll probably be able to bring in your T3 from PvE in the future. I also recall them mentioning that the change to gear will be coming in the next phase…which is some time in the next few months.

I spend half my time in hotjoins taking it easy and testing stuff out to alleviate soloq nerves. However I am sure that an unranked normal queue with hidden mmr would be an amazing substitute.

funny you said that… BM is the easiest build on ranger, dude. you just leave your pet on a node and kite from afar. spirit ranger build gets all the action compared to power and BM builds.

You can’t quite do that whilst defending home though :p
You might be right, I won’t really argue since they have similar passive dependence.

I think most of the items listed in the wiki are correct, however some require multiple tries to forge successfully since some of the recipes yield more than one possibility.

Also I believe there are certain skins which you attain solely from rank/tournament chests.

Hope this helped a bit.

BM is still a strong spec imo- I have played it a lot in soloq, even after the spirit buffs/pet nerfs, and had good to great results as a home point defender. (Most assailants are confused when no spirits come up trolol)

Since the OP mentioned skill factor -I think it takes a bit more skill to play than a spirit ranger (why I stuck to bm), it still a build on the passive side- partly due the near useless active effects of the signets (no fun… t.t) commonly used in the builds.

Out for 3 months, worth it to return?

The rampant condition meta has been toned down quite a bit- even though there are several great condition builds have surfaced.

You’ve also skipped the stunning rise of the hammer warrior- but it has been cut down a bit.

It’s up to you- if you have fun play, if not, don’t

I agree that the longbow on war is a bit op…or at least the lack of telegraphs make it so.

Would it be an idea to nerf, not by reducing numbers, but by fiddling around with how the range effects it (like ranger longbow 1)? I mean from a visual pov, a warrior switching to a long range weapon, setting the ground beneath his feet on fire and proceeding to continue his melee with the bow is also a bit funny.

Well done on continuously increasing your rank patiently!

It might be the following: The maximum percentile achievable before entering the top 1000 isn’t fixed theoretically, but rather is determined by the number of players registered in the leaderboards, so the big jump you described can be cause by that the top 1000 are equivalent to the >80% percentile for example.

So you probably only need to push a bit further

Future of the PvP Locker

I have a few questions and concerns relating to the current pvp skins.

The current pvp locker allows a skin to be withdrawn, equipped and eventually deposited again, similar to being ‘unlocked’.

This is awesome- with so many in game skins, I really love filling in my locker a bit more everyday. I have consistently gathered BLTC skins and PvE meta rewards so I can store them in my collection, use them from time to time, and lovingly store them back. In other words I have invested quite a lot of gold and time in gathering these skins.

The only drawback of the current system (personally) is that if you want to equip a second version of a weapon on offhand or another character, you need to have ANOTHER skin, which you cannot deposit simultaneously with the first. (Which basically separates it from being an unlock t.t)

With the unification of gear I am uncertain of the current values of these collected skins. Will they become soulbound on a one time use like in PvE? Is it worth continuing to forge incomplete pvp sets in the mystic forge?

TL;DR: What will become of our pvp skins, and pvp skins in general?

You guys are actually excited about a blog post? Is that what we have fallen too? I guess the “big” balance patch was such a fail that the “big” pvp blog post now looks epic. I am sure the clowns on reddit will love the blog post but for those of us who have been around pvp for long enough….we dont forget the new skills, rewards and other stuff in 2013, and the “balance” patch that buffs hammer warrior.

Possible (however dubious) news of new upcoming game modes/new reward systems/new skills/traits should offer a spark of curiosity to most. It is also very unlike a balance patch.

Though the actually buzz pre-patch is wild speculation and hard to effectively decided what will be op and what will not…

I remember when they announced the ‘Destruction of the Empowered’ trait for warriors along with the ‘Signet of Might’ change, I was terrified they were going to start eating everyone up. Turns out they didn’t…for a while :p

We’re working with custom support to get additional reporting functionality. Adding a stack of dishonor for being reported isn’t off the table either.

I believe this was a feature present in GW1 pvp, which was in my opinion, worked very well. Glad to know it might be considered

I’ve advocated this as Unrated Que to outright replace Hot Joins for a long time.

In order to do it you have to erase Hot Join completely and just leave the custom servers that are paid for. It would improve the quality of the game immensely in all queues, because people would actually learn how to play correctly in the unrated queue before they got into rated play.

This.

As long as hotjoin lives, it’s 1) sucking out life from the queues, 2) a mediocre way to experience spvp.

However, there must be some form of matchmaking (heh). While teaming up with a few friend for fun is nice- a full premade stomping randoms is no-no.

Idea for confusion/torment

This is hardly a proposal, but just an idea I had I thought I’d share and perhaps trigger a discussion about the state of confusion

What if confusion had a much shorter duration (eg. 2 sec) but had it’s power scaled upwards?

Now you’re probably choking at the mention of buffing conditions, however- consider:

1) It would punish mindless spamming much more heavily.

2) A compressed intensity boosts the risk/reward factor.
-‘I only need to sacrifice/minimize skill use for a couple of seconds for confusion to be actively avoided.’
-‘Should I still try to finish off my enemy before he can disengage?’

Another few pros:
-Less reliance on condi clear to remove it/saving clears for other condis
-Passive condi clear is less effective against it since it is shorter (encouraging active play)

A couple of cons:
-Might be overbearing to recognize when under many conditions
-Getting caught in the middle of a heavy-skill use paradigm.

A similar argument can be thought for torment, however I think it suits confusion better.

Usually when obtaining a skin (such as a BL skin) you have the option to convert it to a pvp use or for pve use on interacting with it. However I have no idea if/how transmutation crystals work within spvp.

While I think diversity has opened up slightly, the ritual of manually changing my traits, runes, sigils, weapons is a bit monotonous. A template of sorts to help speed this process up could encourage people to switch and fiddling around with their builds.

On a similar note, having a ‘-’ option to re-allocate a few trait points instead of ALL the trait points, would be a very neat feature to implement. The only complication that it would need to be ‘locked’ for WvW/PvE.

If only the upcoming changes to rewards would include obtaining a BLTC weapon (at least the pvp skin), even heavily RNG’ed from tourney chests, I would be happy.

I would also go crazy if you could buy them outright (pvp skins) with gems. BLTC are hardly spvp oriented- plus I’d bet they’d sell loads.

I believe the decision for thieves was to promote condition builds. I’m quite interested in how that will work out.

It seems if spec’ced for condition dmg, they want the condition to be quite powerful, so it makes sense to stack for intensity.

Devs mentioned that we are going to be seeing at least a new trait change per tree, up to as much as five per tree. This is good news, since there are some traits which are, without fail, never used in spvp (and most probably neither in pve/wvw). Consequently most professions are very much pigeonholed into one or two builds.

Do we also get Skyhammer?

Really loved the ‘bonus missions’ so far, the cutscenes and the voice actings were an improvement too

You cannot obtain them directly in spvp. You would have to sell dyes and/or sell items/salvages obtained by laurels to buy it from the TP.
