CDI- Fractal Evolution

in CDI

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

I very much doubt I have anything additional to add to the discussion beyond wanting to see more fractals added, but I do want to pass on the team what an excellent idea I think Fractals have been as an addition to the game and the genre. It’s possible other games have done something similar, but FOTM to me as a dungeon concept;

- works better than other dungeons in length, rewards and mechanics/variety
- has the ability to utilise the franchise’s lore
- has a form of vertical progression in agony/infusions which doesn’t unbalance the rest of pve (that’s putting the ascended discussion aside of course).

More fractals and more lore can only enhance a really well thought out concept – great job designers!

Oh and like any dungeon, I’d support any changes to the fractals which would remove the ability to “skip” any section. Skipping seems contrary to every pillar in the game.

bringing back awards cheapens everything :(

I thought it was certain to return as it was recurring annual event?

All rewards should absolutely return imo. Not everyone gets the time first time around and newer players should have the opportunity at least. I agree the difficulty shouldn’t change or be on par.

Update on Capes?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

There has been no updated info on whether capes will ever be added to the game. There is a feature patch in the spring will hopefully address some issues (eg clipping), but we have no idea what will be in that.

They were the only back item in GW1, but because of the varied new number of back item design in GW2s, I suspect capes being added are extremely low on the priority list for the team.

In short, they may be added. Or not. We don’t know

Where did the karma go?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

The karma nerf was done as their weren’t enough karma sinks for the sheer amount of karma many players had. They had 2 solutions – add more karma sinks, or reduce the amount of karma earned and try and encourage players to particpate in more events in the open world. The idea was sound, but at a guess it didn’t force enough people in open world events.

I appreciate this doesn’t help you with your problem however. The good news, is that for the next 2 weeks, you can earn obsidian shards at a pretty decent rate via the LA event. There is a trader in the outlying camps will who give you shards in place of tokens you find in the city.

Hope that helps!

CDI Format Proposal

in CDI

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

I think using the format will make up-voting more valuable a metric. Perhaps a note encouraging up-voting proposals before or instead of posting.

The format may increases the opportunity to engage in quote combat. Perhaps quote combat is grounds for post removal.

The format will also speed up the discovery of good ideas. Will we continue to use a summary every 3 pages and if so, who is responsible for compiling? The players or the development team?

Thank you

Hi Psientist,

We should definitely continue to do summaries. As to who does it that’s a good question which we could explore here in this thread? I am happy to do it, but I know that there are members of the CDI who really like doing it to.

Chris

The summaries are excellent, but there are times where 2 ppl will summarise one after each other. Worth the people who have been doing the good work coordinate either here or via pms and divide up between the threads. Or leave it as it was. Too much summary isn’t actually an issue, it’s more about their own workload really.

CDI Format Proposal

in CDI

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

My honest opinion on this is probably not something that will be taken on board, but in the interests of feedback, I’ll give it anyway. We are running the risk of going overboard with the analysing and bureaucracy of these CDI’s now, with more threads for disssecting and now formatting than the CDI’s.

The CDI’s are really useful things, but this isn’t a corporate boardroom or an English essay exam where we need to go overboard on the red tape. This is a community forum, where anyone should be encouraged to post constructive and concise feedback in a way that they feel comfortable doing so. After a hard day’s work, many are just going to be put off by these new rules and either ignore them or just not post.

The CDI’s are fantastic things, lets get back to them – they worked pretty well as they were imo. Lets let the discussion flow freely with less restraints (albeit with the odd direction as they were before).

p.s Great job on Battle for LA btw

Hi Randulf,

Please understand i am not trying to add more hoops to jump through. By being more succinct through spending more time thinking about proposals and reducing them to their core we gain higher accessibility for those that do not have the time to read a wide variety of different formats of lengthy posts. It also allows the developers more time to be able to engage and collaborate and in turn increases the quality proposition of the CDI in general.

Thanks for your feedback on LA (-:

Chris

I think it showed in the previous analysis threads where ppl thought they were the feedback threads and started posting feedback, that the process IS getting more confusing. Whether it is intended to make it more complex or add more hoops, the perception exists to some parts of the community.

And you are welcome…I eagerly await the final installment!

Eight player parties?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

Adding it to existing dungeons at this stage would very likely to be costly as it would impact on their servers – they already changed some pet consumables due to the cumulative impact on servers and the resultant performance issues it was causing. I know zilch about the tech side of things, but I imagine adding 2 extra slots is from a programming POV not as simple as doing just that.

As for the 5-man, well it works rather well right now. I wouldn’t personally object to that changing, but for new content rather than existing. I’d like to see a range – eg 3-mans as well as larger groups (8man? 10 man?), but realistically this is not something I’d expect to be a priority. The game works right now with 5 man instances and then larger groups for open world.

Attempted and often killed weekly on Gunnars Hold, thanks to a select number of commanders who tirelessly organise and coordinate it all.

It does vary from server to server though. It depends largely on a very small number of dedicated people willing to get it off the ground and stick with it even after numerous fails, using tools like a server forum to get the community involved.

Improved rewards would go a long way though. They aren’t bad, but the chances for ascended or unique skins are just too low to entice enough people more regularly

Colin first said there would be a ‘What to expect’ blog in January. Then in Dec. or Jan., he said he would release it after LS Season One ended.

So, I guess that’s why we haven’t seen it yet; I, too, am waiting for the bi-(or so)yearly ‘State of the Game’ blog.

Ah ok, I missed that bit. Shame, we get so few updates on forthcoming news about the game as it is.

I don’t really care wether or not the content is delivered through the Living Story or an expansion.

I just want to know what they are working on. Right now there is nothing to be excited about.

They’ve said that they have large pojects in the background, but they refuse to tell what it is, or even hint at what it is.

I think this is pretty much my feelings too. I love the game and I’m enjoying the build up to the season 1 finale despite mixed feelings over its implementation to date. However, it does seem really weird that the company refuses to announce its plans for the game. I understand that after the manifesto backlash it may be wary of future accountabilities, but most MMO companies announce titbits of what they are working on; Lotro announced new zones in Jan; TSW announced Tokyo a year in adavnce; Anarchy keeps its playerbase in the loop for balancing/new engine every month etc.

I’d have expected something from the Game Director about “GW2 in 2014”. Just to keep us excited!

Mordremoth, the 5th wheel?

in Living World

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

It works rather well since the others have already awoken, whether it was told via GW1 (first stirring of Primordus) or the novels (Kralkatorrik, Zhaitan). Since we missed Jormags rise, it would be rather cool to experience the awakening of a new Dragon in game first hand.

Whether that is the case….we will find out, but I personally think it makes more sense to do this than go up against one of the 3 known ones so early in the game’s life.

Lots of speculation across these forums has been around Primordus as the dragon behind this – I’ve read a few really good theories on him, but it didn’t feel like an obvious lead in for him through the story so far, compared to the Jungle Dragon. Why would Primordus be the dragon who made contact with her over the other dragons when she entered that machine.

Not that I mind, any dragon is good as far as I’m concerned

I get the impression they aren’t as popular as the new group of NPC,s. Possibly due to the lack of any interaction, possibly due to them being more connected to the novels than the in game story. We will see where it goes, but I suspect the writers are going down the path of involving this new group over DE since we are interacting with them every chance.
