The biggest problem I can see with race changes in game is cultural armor sets. Like would they just automatically changed to that other races armor or would you have humans in t3 charr armor? Maybe this isn’t an issue but it seems like it would be to me
And personal story + subsequent achievements. I Imagine the techincial difficulties of both outweigh this being done.
I doubt race changes will happen. It would be quicker to remake a toon than wait for this to happen tbh.
I don’t think you will ever find an MMO that has all zones fully populated at all times, especially not a year or later after it has launched.
ArenaNet is activly working on making all of the content as rewarding as possible, which is impossible.
Beside that, I see people everywhere I go so it may just be your server.
This entirely. I see areas even at mid level growing in population, but there are a lot of zones. People simply cannot be in all of them. The invasions have helped, but the mindset of many players is on farming/zerging/champs. Not all, granted, but exploration players like myself are a small group and thus only a few will ever other areas. Low population servers even more.
When more zones eventually come out, this will be compounded.
In Guild Wars 2, the monsters raid you.
Also, check out Guild Missions
Guild missions…hardly compare to raids.
Agreed. The bountys especially, which are still largely luck based, rather than purely skill based at this time.
I do like the Guild Treks though. Those are fun!!
There’s an anvil in dungeons..I see no reason they couldn’t add in a trait spec NPC either at the start
Staying forever is unnecessary. The formula (with some tweaking to balance out winning and farming a bit better) can be repeated in similar forms for future Dragon minion attacks (eg Jormag sending Svanir and Icebrood down into southern shiverpeaks). I liked the concept of invasion and I can see it being a blueprint for more world scale events long after the weedkiller is poured on Scarlet once and for all.
It could also be used to flesh out the Centaur/Human war or maybe Separatist/evil Charr attacks on Ebonhwake. Possibilites are endless

Yep, big fan of the concept stuff – and this is one of my favourites to date. Whilst I’d like to see a better correlation between these images and the in game art, there’s no doubt the in game art is also spectacular.
Good job guys!
I would kill to see a ANet post explaining condition damage in PvE and why they cap at 25 bleeds. Is there any such post? Please link if so!
It’s been a while since the last dev post on the subject. Will take a while to dig it out – I’ll post if I find. It’s to do with bandwidth.
(I imagine this has been necroed due to the relevance with Teq next week)

Noone ever visits this poor guy…
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Champion_Ooze_King
He’s getting so lonely :’(
He gets a regular kicking on our server. Twice by me yesterday in fact!!
The Champion Giant in far Eastern Harathi in the caves. He has an obscene amount of health!
The Krait Queen in south Timberline deserves a mention. Few do her simply because she seems to hit harder than the Elder Dragons and Shiro combined…
The issue is that if a boss has 25 of a condition stacks on him, then a condition class cant do any more dps on that boss. Meta bosses are usually maxed on conditions stacked on them quickly.
The 2 suggestions have been more than 25 stacks or 25 per person. Both of which have so far been stated impossible due to bandwidth issues. At this time, we don’t know if a change will ever be added
Thats what this thread is about. It is a legitimate concern as it limits builds
Its not ignored, they’ve stated why many times. I know it sucks (having a condition toon myself), but its a major technical/bandwidth issue which cant just be solved at this time.
I agree it’s a flaw, but I suspect we wont see any changes until they can work round the stated technical limitations
It will give them more time to work on the story and really give it some much needed work – especially as the writers team have said they are under time pressure normally. Def in favour of a one month hiatus. The community asked for SAB, better bosses and a break from LS. September has given that
I share the exploration sentiments though. I hope the World starts to open up some more soon.
I think this is perfect conten for mid month release if they insist on 2 week releases. Really looking forward to this – can’t say I’m running out of things to do this month!
If they made Bosses stronger (more time to kill) without additional rewards (example: more ectos) then this update will fail, even if Bosses would appear “more interesting”.
Why? People have specifically asked for harder bosses for months. Its been one of the biggest shout outs to the devs. They drop ascended mats now too, so technically they have been given more rweards, but no extra work to obtain them. I can’t see how it could “fail”.
It says all bosses and uses those 3 as examples. Full patch notes next week will probably go into detail.
I wouldn’t play an Orc in Lotro if the option was given (outside of monster pvp), the same applies to Charr
Ascalon was such a pretty place once…
Have to say, this is an exciting patch. Harder bosses all round was unexpected
Love the wallpaper too!!
Most of the changes have been for the better (for me), but they tend to be less lauded by Anet and thus overlooked. Also, I’d agree many should have been in from inception, but that’s a lost point now.
I’m happy playing the game, but it needs to get back to its roots with storytelling and lore. There’s an interesting thread in the LW subforum discussing how the GW1 lore is being rewritten by the writers and the current LW story isn’t working (with some very constructive points). Much of it comes down to the writers saying they are struggling with time, partly proving the change to 2 week content was the worse change for me – it was unneccesary and unrequired.
Have they U-turned on grind/tier etc? Yes to an extent (the game is still as playable w/o any grind whatsoever we often forget). It wasn’t an outright lie by them, they just had to change their business model to fit the metrics they were seeing. It’s a shame, but it’s likely they are were overly optimistic a non-grindy game could survive long term. They were a victim of their own hype I fear.
ALtohugh I enjoy it, the game needs to get back to some core principles of exploration of new zones, build making/new skills and Dragons (remember those?) as part of the story not some suddenly appearing sat morning cartoon villain that although had trained from every race in the world, was unknown until a few weeks ago…

Gold acquiring is considerably easier than it ever was. I play a few hours a day including general events, a bit of mining runs, some champ farming, maybe an invasion – I still come away with at least 5g a day, not including that I’m hoarding a lot stuff and salvaging greens for luck.
I never earned that without effort when I was making a legendary and T6 mats certainly didnt drop with the regularity they do now (largely thanks to champs). It’s easier than ever to make money – it’s just better balanced across the whole game than it was before.
It’s a skin that’s meant to take months and more to get, that people read way to much into my the moniker “legendary” (its just a tier tag, not a description..)
I would whole heartedly support more underwater stuff. I absolutely love it. I dont mind the combat, but have no issues if they improved it for others. Exploring the depths should be quite exciting!
One thing summed it up was when I bring new players into the game and they quickly pick up the idea of the Elder Dragons as the enemy from the world and NPCs and quests etc around them.
Then an invasion happens and they ask about Scarlet. For a new players, they have no idea about someone who is a major villain right now. Frankly, if I hadn’t read the story on the website, I’d know next to nothing about her either. How many others know of the existence of the stories? I really can’t get my head round why lore is there and not in game. Earlier lore exists in game – GW1 Prophecies/Destinys Edge/Rise of the Dragons etc etc. Current lore doesn’t seem to “stick”. Absolutely no lore should ever be communicated exclusively outside of the game.
How to do it? Well it’s clear technical limitations bar it. Better storytelling in each chapter will help. I’m inclined to believe this is not due to your writers, but the pressure and time restraints on them. I’d rather have amazing story every 1-2 months than the confusing threads we have now.
The book idea was excellent. It would give a reason to regularly visit the Durmond Library or a reason to have heralds. I recently did the explorer achievement for reading all the Ebonhwake books. THAT was fun, well written/constructed and informative lore wise. Maybe something like the GW1 dungeon books, where you handed them in to a herald to update your story so far.
Maybe something could be developed in the achievement panel as similar to the personal story – post dating for anyone missing earlier chapters. That would fill in key storylines and characters.
I’ve no idea whether those fall under the technical restraints you have, but I’d say this issue should be a priority right now since I’m surprised it wasn’t added in before LS was (seemingly) rushed out.

Having now played world 2 zone 2….
Wow, OK that’s a long level. Even Ninetndo or Capcom would probably be scratching their head over that one.
If it was a console game and not a temporary content with limited save capability, I’d love it. But, the light hearted fun from April seems to have gone by overly long zones, unforgiving puzzles at the end of long sections etc etc.
The fact that I found TM on world 1 as hard as normal World 2 shows to me where the balance went wrong.
Too many clever homages (Zelda + Ninja Gaiden I’ll give you was a interesting combo tho) and not enough fun for the wide audience you have- hopefully a lesson learned for the future
But the important part is that the narrator says that “it” has gathered powers in the DEPTHS and that it has become stronger faster etc. and that it has come to devour us all… Are you all thinking what I’m thinking? wink Bubbles* wink*?
Or Zhaitan is still alive. I never did the last story mission but from I heard he fell into the ocean right? And seeing as how Tequatl is a champion of Zhaitan and Zhaitan might be resting (if he’s still alive) in the ocean maybe he got powered up by him as Zhaitan’s first act of vengeance.
That would quite a nice theory to hang to. Whilst it’s probable he’s intended to be dead, it is possible for them to go back and explore the chance he’s not. I doubt they will invalidate the end of the personal story though, but options exist.
Sadly no Dragon stuff was confirmed for this year iirc. Doesn’t mean they couldn’t explore the idea later Teq has drawn magic from the UW dragon in someways..
Yes, it was accidentally rolled back, but unfortunately it cant be fixed. There have been several threads, but all are probabaly merged into the big one in the bug forum
I have changed my stats with the infusion in with no consequences (the preview window hides the sgil/infusion – but nothing is deleted)
I will say though, the stat changes for your legendary wont take effect unless you unequip and requip the weapon after changing the stat (unless they fixed that). I noticed that with mine this week.
the World Boss list is much bigger than those 4
they include;
Behemoth (queensdale)
Golem (Mt Malestrom)
Ulgoth (Harathi)
Jungle Wurm (Caledon)
Fire Elemental (Metrica)
Svanir Shaman aka Maw
All the Orr Temple bosses – Grenth/Dwayna/Balthazar/Lyssa/Melandru
Taidha Covington (Bloodtide)
Fire Shaman (Fireheart)
These World Bosses usually follow a meta (not mega) chain of events, with a couple of exceptions. They alwayus give a large chest of rewards and all but Megadestroyer gives a daily account wide guarnteed rare in a bonus chest
It wasn’t intended to be hard – tribulation was and no one has really complained about that. Certainly its no reflection of retro gaming, but TM is very good in the context of what it is.
W2 infantile and normal mode have been over tweaked by difficulty – the devs have admitted the learning curve was too steep from 1-2 (and thanks to them for admitting it). Normal mode is meant to be fun for all interested. TM is for the Liadri and elite group. It didn’t work out like that (yet – may get fixed).
Is SAB an excellent piece of content? Despite all the above..of course it is. World 1 is every bit as amazing as it was before and the overall concept is still genius.
Remember also, SAB forum was filled with praise before. There’s not much more to be said than already has been, so its not surprisng more negative threads will appear (and ppl are right to say so, as long as they are constructive)

Zone 1 cleared!!!!
4 hours…20 continues…
curls into a small ball and cries
Ah well. I wont re-enter ever again if I leave so best push ahead!
OK, Ive spent the last hour and a half getting to the 2nd checkpoint (to a small cheer to balance out the cursing..). If I leave, does tribulation mode remember where I was? Or do I luck out unless I finish world 1?

Having given it some play time the things ive noticed echo th posters
1) the learning curve from W1 – W2 is too big a jump. If world 3 or 4 maybe. All those retro games quoted have a learning curve leading up to the hard bits. This has none and just pops you right into the hard parts. There’s also some horrible collision detection (i think thats the right term) in places
2) There’s little fun (for me) in replay value. Sure World 1 was over easy, but it was soooo much fun running back through. That’s a real testament to how amazing it was. World 2 lacks that. Once done, I have no wish to go back through over and over.
Partly the achievements system drives the perceived stress. It’s pretty tough for most players I imagine to find the time to do all the checklist. I think that’s often a bigger complaint than the difficulty obstacles we often hear.
2 weeks is admirable, but feels more like a marketing strategy – “we are the only mmo to offer such consistent updates”. That’s true and I can see how a business would find that coup. Is it sustainable? Personally I don’t think so long term. The quality has varied considerably – not because of poor effort on part of the devs, but it feels more like because they are constrained by time.
I’m really not sure why we need “2 weeks” “3weeks” “monthly” etc. If the content is ready…release it. If not, give it more time. Flame and Frost had all the makings of a decent story, but was too spaced out. Now we have too short, too rushed stories without meaning or explanation. A story takes as long as it needs to be told.
Also, Festivals can be slotted in as 2-3 week slots a they are proven effective in those kind of windows…but only as background content..never as lead content.
One thing I have recognised with the Living Story – a new player will have no idea who Scarlet is or what threat she poses (not sure I do tbh..). They are likely fully aware the threat of the Dragons. Until Living Story seamlessly integrates with the world, it wont merit the Living STory moniker.

Seriously, what versions of these games are you playing?
We all have a broad range of experience with Atari – current games. I cut my teeth on NES Zelda, Metroid, Mega Man, Ninja Gaiden et all. When I reference one of these games I’m not saying “SAB is exactly like this game in every way.” SAB is a homage to ERA of games, not a single game or genre. SAB is LIKE Metroid in a couple ways. Like Ninja Gaiden in a couple ways, like Mega Man in a couple ways. We have items in shops you have to buy to progress like Zelda, we have instant kill spikes and pits like Mega Man and Ninja Gaiden. You can point to all the classic games that do things differently and say “See, that’s how you SHOULD do it.” The we we DID do it is based on the unique chemistry of our team and what we liked in old games and what we wanted to experience. Your milage may vary.
Bad josh…you made me spend money on my wii u for above mentioned games!!
Ps original metroid and zelda werent that bad…but feel free to never take battletoads as your inspiration for world 3 or 4
Theres a thread on this forum with a dev reply on this subject

I’m intrigued by this thread to try this tomorrow should I get the chance.
Might have to play some more Mega Man first though just to get my “insane difficulty” eye in though
Open world bosses, temple bosses, WvW keeps, and castles now drop Dragonite Ore in addition to their regular loot, which can only be earned once per day per location.
Dungeons, minidungeons, jumping puzzles, WvW camps, and towers now drop Empyreal Fragments in addition to their regular loot, which can only be earned once per day per location.
they key thing about the above is;
Ascended weapons can now drop anywhere ascended materials or other ascended items can be found.
I remember Colin mentioning this was possibly an oversight a while ago. I’d hoped they’d fix that for this patch. It’s no biggie for me as its a fun boss to play, but it would be a nice carrot for others.
I know exotic recipes were reset last patch, didn’t think it affected recipes mind you.
Best thing to do is, post a bug report complete with a screenshot of your reset crafting level to zero. It’ll likely reach them quicker.
Ive added this to the bug forum in case its not working, but I noticed once you changed the stats on a Legendary, you then have to unequip and re-equip for those changes to take effect.
Just in case no one else had noticed!
Happy adventure boxing!
When I change the stat combo on The Moot, I need to then unequip, re-equip for the stat changes to take effect.
Is this correct or should it update even if you change whilst equipped?
Its a bug – check the bug forum
Don’t play it then It was massively popular first time around and no doubt will be this time ..and the next time (world 3) and the next time (world 4)
It’s not for everyone, but its extremely good for what it is
Rofl..love your title there Vince! Imagine a CV with that on!!
When 3 differing groups come together – ie farmers, rpers and questers it will cause conflict of interest. – something that I’m slightly surprised wasn’t thought about when the content was implemented.
It happens with popular games. Ignore, report or turning of map chat are the easy answers. I saw plenty of arguing and demanding ppl follow “their” way of playing which was counter productive.
I have no personal issue with ascended being added, but I can very much understand why people are annoyed about it. This is, depending on your interpretation, a reversal of a core principle in the game. The game already has too many tiers already – I think the lines between rare/exotic were already too blurred and ascended just complicates things for many. And the time gating (if true) just seems a bit of a kick to those with alts.
However, I’m quite happy with it and the fact it is being drip fed over the course of months. And of course there is the point ascended isn’t “needed” outside of FOTM anyway. Having completed most of the content I’m interested in, this gives me an extra goal to proceed with.
The killer for me would be if they added
a) a new tier
b) levels above 80.
The latter would be destructive as it would undo all the work taken to achieve the gear you already had and the circle would just continue. There is of course no indication either would happen, so for now I remain content (personally speaking).
A welcome announcement and hopefully the start of overhauling the others too!
My big concern is that it is likely it will constantly be a hugely populated event and thus be too laggy for many to play. WIll it be on random timers? If not, will it be laggy and unplayable to those without high end pcs? Invasion has been hit miss in terms of lag. Sometimes it is fine, but I was in overflow and as soon as I was near a zerg, 2-3min skill lag kicked in.
This is what happens when Hobo-Tron gets abducted
