I have no issue with their existence and yes I can ignore them unless I want the AP (which I do). But, they are beginning to dominate. Mini games are better used sparingly rather than driving or leading the content as they currently do. As an RPG, story shouldn’t continue to take a backseat as it has done since LS started.
I’m hoping all these random titbits of story will link to something epic. It’s all very bizarre atm and has been a bit stop/start in places. If the bigger picture works out, then I’ll happily take back some of the things here, but the journey is a bit bumpy right now.
RE: no mini games with F&F. Didn’t super adventure box launch during that period..? As much as I loved SAB…that was def a mini game!
Hopefully whichever fractal wins, the other will get some expanded lore in the World we can go out and read or maybe some artwork telling the story. Would be a shame if neither got representation at least in some form (altho I’d agree both can’t be a fractal)
Plenty of people doing these on Gunnars Hold (EU). Never seen an issue getting a group
Which challenge did you do Evon or Kiel? There is no achievement set for Evon for these, hence why it is considerably easier to complete.
I rarely enjoy the mini games in GW2, but Aspect Arena hooked me. I agree the achievements seem to cause people to concentrate on just going for crystal bearers and not winning, but I still enjoy it. Considerably better than the abominable dragon bash one

That will drop – it is only day one. Essentially the community has got what it wanted with gems for skins, its just that u convert the gems to gold and buy off the tp when the price is right. Long winded, but a start at least
Oh wow…yes that’s quite the change. Not sure if it’s a dirt mund tho – it is all covered up
Perhaps is weighs on your mind because you have “Night Fever”

It’s anti fun if you don’t like it. It’s my favorite jumping puzzle in the game. We do this with my guild, usually takes about ten people. If you can’t get ten people together on your server, don’t do it. It’s not required.
But saying only PvE people deserve jumping puzzles, so putting them in PvP is not fun because it’s not fun to you isn’t great. Dungeons aren’t that much fun to me, but I acknowledge there are people that like it.
The dungeon wasn’t designed with mobs…it was designed with traps that one side could use against the other. In other words it was designed to PvP in. And for those who like that, it’s certainly fun.
It’s anti-fun to you because you’re not a PvPer. The answer here is simple. If you don’t enjoy PvPing, don’t do the puzzle, because you really don’t have to. It’s a choice.
I did it several times this week, just to help out guildies, even on days when I already had gotten the chest. Every time I beat it it was a rush, moreso than any other jumping puzzle in the game.
Edit: You need a bunch of mesmers in that group….so you can portal people up as they fall. That’s what we do.
but it’s required for zephyrum sanctum kite achivement, which is a mainly PvE/living story achievement, not PVP
Why is the living story ONLY PvE achievements. You can comfortably get your meta event from that. In fact, there are many PvP living world achievements and have been all along. The achievements in Sanctum Sprint? PvP. More obviously the Dragon Ball arena….PvP. You’re just assuming because it’s living story it’s only PvE but that hasn’t really be true for a long time. Not since the Crab Toss game.
This is a PvP achievement associated with the living story. You see it as a PvE achievement because you’re a PvE’er.
Yes..it is a pvp achievement…amongst a pve set. Something that shouldn’t exist at all
There is no reason whatsoever, a series of pvp achievements could not be made as part of the Living Story to cater for all players. Mixing pve and pvp is neither popular or something that has ever worked in MMOs. I have nothing against pvp, It’s just not my thing. Should pvpers have as much chance to earn rewards as pvers? Without question –
Along with Obsidian Sanctum, you could have specific Forts, camps, SM, BL jps.
Should pvp and pve be mixed in a single achievement? No, not ever.

Reddit confirms they will stick around. Apparently the patch will have more info.
Not sure why they couldn’t let us know before then…
I’m going to presume no deadlines means we have a couple more weeks.
Unless a dev posts otherwise, Healix’s logic seems pretty sound
After getting all the ascended I needed, I bought the Cat Tonic. Now I’m ploughing them into T6 mats for my next legendary and to help guildies with theirs
Hello,
Potentially dumb question, but I couldn’t find an obvious answer anywhere. WIll the Bazaar achievements be coming out of the game when the Cuthroat Politics hits? I just want to know if I need to blitz sanctum sprint or whether the Quartz of power achievement is now unobtainable for me having stupidly forgotten to do before now
thanks!

The one area that doesn’t need an in depth story or extra length dungeons is Fractals.
I have always loved the concept of FOTM and the possibilities it can bring. Step in, face off a random set of short instances (some need to be shortened mind imo). Perfect for casual or hardcore due to the levelling. Adding in historical events is a masterstroke.
Making them longer and story based only undermines what makes fractals fun to play (for me), so no I disagree I’m afraid
No it shouldn’t affect the leaderboards (as a HoM achievement accumulator), but the leaderboard is skewed anyway due to the old daily point values from 6 months back and how those of us with longer time invested will always be ahead of newwer players. Leaderboards in principle only work when all players work from a level playing field.
They are however, I’m sure just a bit of fun and anyway, meaningless in my eyes, so I just ignore the whole thing

What masses who were driven away? Ill put my hand up and say the direction is causing my interest to wane, but where are the facts to support a mass exodus or a waiting mass of players on the virge of playing but wont because of the “combat system”?
Let’s see…
- Primordus: Unknown location underground – presumably near the central transfer station.
- Destroyer minions – created from scratch
- Currently held at bay by the stone dwarves
- Jormag: Unknown location in the northern shiverpeaks.
- Corrupting male creatures who lust for power – Icebrood
- Holding at bay throughout the shiverpeaks
- Kralkatorrik: Unknown location in the crystal desert. Last known location: Glint’s lair.
- Branded minions – corrupted “mindstate” of creatures that fell in the wake of the dragon.
- Fighting off Branded theoughout The Scar.
- Bubbles: Unknown location under sea
- Minions: Sclerite, presumably corrupted sea creatures with tentacles
- Fighting creatures fleeing from Bubbles, no sign of dragon.
- Mordremoth: Unknown location beneath the Maguuma Wastes
- Minions unknown, speculation ties it to the Nightmare
- No immediate threat.
- Zhaitan: Dead in Orr
- Risen minions, no further corruption.
- No threat, the dragon’s dead.
So as of now, nobody wants to go on the offensive. If we strike a dragon in its own lair there could be dire consequences. What happens if we head to the Crystal Desert to kill Kralkatorrik and Jormag flies down from the north or Primordus erupts from beneath the earth to wreak havoc on the overworld? I think if I were a political advisor to any of the five nations I’d stay on the defensive.
Ah but if i was a dragon, i prob wouldnt be just bothering inconsequential villages and upsetting baby quaggans! Zhaitan at least encroached right outside the grove. Too soon for a full blown story, but in addition to my living story suggestions above, we could have a chapter of scouting out a building threat or a new zone where it is feared a new attack could come from.
I got there after a straight hour of trying. Some naughty words were expleted on the road to success mind!
There is some strategy as stated above, but it is tempered by also needing luck sadly.
Bluff when as much as you can get away with, keep your reduced damage buff handy and time your belches so you don’t get caught with only “drink” off cooldown. Sounds easy..it of course isn’t and you need to hope you get him using the right skills against you when you need it.
Very annoying, was glad when it was done!!!! Kudos for sticking it out for 3 days…I’d have caved or broken my keyboard!
You want another compelling and unforgettable fight as the one against Zhaitan?
The one where we poke him with pact lasers while he doesn’t mount anything resembling resistance, until he falls off the mountain side and vanishes into the clouds like a disney villain? Or is there another secret fight that I haven’t seen yet?
I think Wolf may have been slightly sarcastic about the technicalities of the fight there
Tru true. But a living story chapter involving dragon minion issues would be relevant and potentially great fun.
The brand is meant to be growing (iirc?) Maybe a sudden outpour/growth that left a lasting impact on the landscape?
Maybe a destroyer uprising brings a new destroyer menace or small volcanic rift that scars Maguuma after some inetnse battles or skirmishes.
I do believe we need more of a global and constant threat from the dragons. They feel a bit like localised nuisances right now to me. Living STory is ideally suited to improving this.
More than happy to see these returning since ppl enjoyed them so much.
Personally disappointed no immediate, or laid down plans for new region/dragon related story after a year. I’m not expecting to fight one..but some effect from a dragons would be a more interesting LS storyline I’d have thought than the stuff we’ve had.
But, adding the dungeons back in is a positive sign of listening to the community
Yep, we noticed this too. Bit annoying
well they cant rly focus on making anything major or more complex and permanent then mini games with shooting out new “content” every two weeks.
two weeks is too short for making anything significant.
Completely agree, but I’m (personally) of the thought that a less hectic release schedule with more significant, polished content is the better way forward. I guess time will tell as things pan out if that is the wrong thinking or not.
What “changes” do you refer to though?
I’m not disputing they have put in some good content (as did say that in my post). But, the world has not progressed. The World hasnt changed for all the clamour LS was meant to. We’ve had some excellent stuff – usually the gimmicky bits (This month, SAB), but I’m not seeign any really gripping story or straight content..
In that time, TSW has developed 3 updates – with new stories, new zones, new raid, new weapons. All of which are of a high quality.
Lotro pushed 2 expansions within 18months, with new zones, a big new combat (mounted) a huge number of new instances, lots of quests, interesting stories.
GW1 pushed out 2 expansions within a year, both of which prob saved the game, since Prophecies was pretty underwheleming.
I love GW2, but (and I will say it again – I PERSONALLY) do not believe it is giving the right balance or enough quality story. No reason it cant put the same deciation to story as it has to to the mini game stuff.

I’ve loved the new content and for what it is, it’s excellent in my opinion – a big well done to the team who worked on it.
However, it is utterly bizarre not to have equally in depth content to appeal to non JP players alongside it. Minimal story, no meaningful events, no challenging boss fights. By all means keep making stuff like Bazaar, but supplement it. The story since LS started has been jumping around a lot, some of it good, some of it woeful, some of it ending suddenly without warning.
1 year on, we now really need some meaty content. Living story should be progressing set up stuff for the dragons, not shallow enemies like Molten or Aetherblades, who came and went in the blink of an eye…

OK, I’m normally not a fan of the jumping puzzles, but I had soooo much fun finding these on my own and then jumping.
Great job on this devs, from normally a jp hater!
:)
Was starting to go off the game a bit after being massively underwhelmed by living story. Im still not a fan of the overall directipn, but i am impressed with this zone. Its nice to have a unique area with its own identity. So many of the existing zones lack this.
Theres still some vagueness with npcs – it seemed like some were giving me something, but it was clear what (morning for eg). However, its joyous to see that the zephyr are made up of a single race. Its been utterly ridiculous to see charr, humans and asura mixing in such numbers across the world in the factions we meet.
Overall feelings are that more care and effort has been put in on this one and if the content goes up from here, theres potential these patches will finally deliver.
I want whatever is suitable for the content. Aetherblades has some good bits, but would have benefitted from more story, bigger build up. Instead, it’s a rushed piece of storytelling with a decent dungeon and some pointless achievement tick box exercises.
The noir scene was excellent and really looked like it was going to set up one of hell of an experience. Except, it didn’t and fell flat on its face with a half hearted bit of story, with no satisfactory explanation as to what/why things were happening.
I know they are taking forum feedback, but 2 week updates wasn’t what we asked for. Just non rushed, quality content.
So far Living Story is a concept simply not fulfilling its existence in any way. I hope it pans out eventually, but sometimes you need to brake to go forward..

I’m on Arena.net’s side on this one. If you really need these on all of your characters then buy more. It’s far from being something essential.
Agreed. This isn’t an essential item, just a convenience thing. With the rage going on about RNG and so many people asking for straight cash for items in the gem shop, ANet can’t then do themselves out of making money by reducing potential sales on items such as the tools.
Well, Lotro is having a bad time of it atm due to its gear progression strategy. It’s killed a swathe of ppl since Rohan as ppl are forced re-grind after each content patch.
I don’t think a lack of gear progression will kill GW2, it didn’t with GW1 and there’s just no reason or evidence to suggest it will here. There are things wrong with the game, but this isn’t one of them in my opinion and I’m glad to see an MMO trying to do end game a diff way. But, it’s way too early to write it off.
The following will pertain to PvE content only:
GW2 is like a carnival. It’s fun to pass the time and look at all the cool sideshows, but there is no overall epic adventure. Just mindless wandering.
Sure there are a epic meta events, but you complete it and carry on to some other unrelated event that does not progress your character forward whatsoever, knowing that these events happen on rotation. I did enjoy my personal story, but I feel as though GW2 is two separate games before and after you hit 80. All character story progression grinds to a halt after your personal story, and all gear progression stops after you buy your favorite looking armor and transmuted it with exotics from the TP. I will say that I had more fun leveling/questing in this game than any other MMO I have ever played. The zones are just gorgeous, the “questing” was seamless. But now what? Hitting 80 I was ready for some epic battles with huge bosses and cool armor and weapons. But that didn’t happen.
This games attention to detail is phenomenal. It’s dedication to meaningful and rewarding end-game content progression is horrendous.
Agree/Disagree?
I agree, although that is partly why I play. I enjoy the mindless wandering, since I have other mmos to fill the opposite reqs. And I still have Gw1 installed for when I yearn for that too
That said, I’d too like the epic boss battles you stated. Even if just for the sake of fighting them and no reward.
Or buy heavy bags which yield 3 T6 mats a pop and sell them/put towards legendary
I love underwater combat and zones. Sure the combat needs a bit of work, but I still love it on my warr and ele.
Would love to see new aquabreathers and new skins for them. And also an UW city maybe.
It’s good for levelling and I use it on my mid lvl Guardian atm, but not for grouping. I’m not sure it could ever be viable for anything other than solo pve stuff anyway. I’d like it to last longer, but this was a very much welcome buff
It’s certainly ambitious, but I’m not sure why they feel the need to.
If they can pull out a bit more depth to their content and more variation (eg some story would be good – we’ve almost nothing outside of F&F, only the incredibly short investigation bit which was over in a blink of the eye), then fab, all for it.
For me though, longer waits for decent content is preferable over rushed content thrown at us fortnightly. The Living STory, whilst containing some moments of real excellence (dungeons, skins design) is not living up to what it hypes – ie a changing Tyria. We’ve had a whirlwind of threats come and go which have had virtually no lasting impression on the world, yet the same diplomats are round the table negotiating over the Charr/Human treaty…
Quality over quantity if both can’t be obtained
I am having a really hard time beating this dungeon. I have read a few threads, and a lot of people say it is easy. I wish that I could say the same. Getting to Frizz is not a problem, but how do you beat him? The electric beam plus the wall and golems? I have tried 4 times, and spent most of the day failing. since it is so easy can somebody please let me know some tricks on how to beat it?
There’s a strategy in the dungeon forum for doing both bosses.
I got quite infuriated by it, but largely because I’m not very good at jumping mechanics (plus I was too tired and grumpy to properly coordinate toight!). Avoiding the lasers is mostly a case of jumping on the boxes to avoid the lower laser and running from the upper. Nuke the golems, job done.
Establish a rhythm and hopefully you should be OK
Sorry, really hated this one. I’m all for decent mechanics, but this was a bit OTT for my liking (spike damage for 15k by final boss for eg, and gaining conditions too quick to cure).
I appreciate the need for elite players to have something difficult, but maybe an easier story and harder explorable?
F&F one was considreably better in my opinion
It is a step in the right direction in terms of using mechanics and not pure dps though.
Glad ppl are enjoying it!
Is it weird that my first strong reaction to the notes was “YES! THEY BUFFED MISTFIRE WOLF!!”?
Haha nope I had the same reaction
Glossed over the rest – walls of tiny changes to skills/casting times etc glaze my eyes over lol
I have a ton of those dice, which my son just “inherited” (read stole) because he started playing pen and paper D&D with some friends. Imagine that…people still play pen and paper. Who knew?
I have friends who get together on occasion for a D&D session. It still seems to be ‘relatively’ popular, given it’s 2013.
Yeah…pen and paper is probably bigger than ever right now. The sheer amount of rp groups, systems, rules etc etc is more than u would believe..
Completely agree. However, we have hundreds of active threads already on this identical subject.
Whilst everything you say im wholeheartedly behind, we really need a one big thread for this subject now..
In a nutshell, yes that’s pretty much it
buff = increased effectiveness
nerf = decreased effectiveness
The day the community is satisfied is when GW3 comes out…so that the whole vicious cycle can begin anew
Removing general discussion would prob help. Then all the unconstructive stuff wouldnt be concentrated in one area and make the community look worse than it actually is.
Some great discussion in the helping players, community and lore subforums for eg.
