Eldvin Monastery Brew of the Month Club?

You will be able to finish it next January. It would be utter foolish for them to begin a collection 6 days before the first month expires and not loop round. Collections ar permanent, so this will exist for future players as well.

Sure it wasn’t one of the perma conditions that are inflicted by the statues? They go when you relog to a map where they aren’t active or defeat the meta bosses.

Also, if its immobilise, did it have a condition symbol attached to it? There’s a bug which just stops your character dead in their tracks and the only way to move again beyond relogging is a dash skill of some sort. Been around since launch, not sure anyone knows how it triggers.

If not, then yeah it’s a bug

I wholeheartedly support what you are aiming for. The collections are a mess and as you say, the difference between what is considered common and rare has long since lost any definition. This would be a really useful QoL change

The misc weapons are worth mentioning because some of them are sublime

Berseker’s Ebb
BErserker’s Flow
Berserker’s Mordrem Saber
Berserker’s Mordrem Cleaver
Berserker’s Mordrem Warblade
Berserker’s Mordrem Warbow
Berserker’s Lightward’s Battlehammer
Berserker’s Lightward’s Battlestaff

And some I read from Dulfy
Augury of Death
Great Capra
Might of Brauer
Seers Warstaff
Ley Guard’s Protector
Opulent Defender
Ley Guard’s Revolver
Dandy Buster
Velocitas Eradico
Kingmaker
Arkhalos

Some of those listed are super rare drops that you basically have to pay hundreds of gold on the TP to obtain.

That’s a separate issue though. They are obtainable without gold and without use of the gemstore, which is the topic of discussion here. I don’t disagree that they are perhaps too rare, but the point stands they exist in game through content.

Juggernaut changes?

The first one was actually aimed at the armors we got in the actual game. Thus not taking in the gemstore into account. Since that’s another pay wall.
I was actually trying to say the armors we can get in game without paying gems are to few in numbers and most of the time look a lot less good than the things in the gemstore.

Yes, apologies I see that now. My bad

Sick of the Gem Store

Randulf.7614

Because if all of these armors looked really good then I wouldn’t mind.
But my problem here is that most of them don’t and instead they make good looking outfits for the gem store.

Entirely subjective. I’m a huge fan of most of the outfits/armours in the store. If people didn’t like them, they wouldn’t sell and the whole outfits in the store wouldn’t be an issue.

And something worse is going about with gliders. The only glider that isn’t in the gemstore is the one you get by default. Why not make gliders to get for completing content? Like raids? Or quests?

Completely agree. I am OK with most being in the gem store, but I would like the chance to earn or even craft say a Guild Emblemed glider for example. Or maybe a couple of bosses drop them as rare loot, which reflects the boss themselves.

So basically the problem is that they are purposefully holding back good content so we will buy more of the gemstore. And that attitude REALLY needs to change.

No that isn’t something that is happening or is there any proof that it is. You can be unhappy with the prioritising of the content or how long it is taking to come out, but the gem store content is not designed by the same team, so will barely impact main content.

To continue on this. Lots of fashion items don’t really have a story behind them or a rather vague story. By making collections or preferably short quests you can explain where these armor sets originate and why they are there in the first place.

It’s clear legendary armour is getting this treatment, however I otherwise approve of the idea for more armours.

The relevant feedback gets back to the devs either by them reading themselves, by the weekly report from the community manager or by the forum specialists. Whether they act on it or how they prioritise, or envision the feedback as part of the direction of the game is a different matter. The feedback generally gets back to them, it just isn’t always obvious until it hits live that is the case.

That latter is a problem equally caused by oft dire company communications and also the way the community sometimes presents itself.

If you have feedback, leave it constructively, with the appropriate headings and just ignore any threads that offend you or you think aren’t giving the right feedback. The devs will get what they need and ignore the rest.

What is the purpose of precursor collections?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

For me, they are fun. I have no issue repeating content. if I did I wouldn’t be playing an MMO, let alone GW2. It just happens most of GW2 I like replaying. Many of the collections encourage unique approaches – for example Rodgort collection 3.

They exist to give players a way to re-explore the World, maybe do some old content, maybe see content they glossed over first time, but ultimately get their precursor at minimal cost (I have nearly finished Rodgort and have barely spent any money).

To be honest I wish the entire legendary was crafted the same way via collections, but this is the next best thing. Will it appeal to everyone? No, but I personally am a fan.

I alt between a few MMO’s but less and less do I play them. Virtually everything in GW2 ticks the MMO itch I want and I don’t feel penalised for playing in old maps and content. Plus no continuous gear and level grind!

There are no less problems in other MMO’s, but most contain less content or repeat playability for me compared to GW2. Long may it last!

Although I would like TT nerfed a fraction, what I want wouldn’t be healthy for the game. TT is completable and it would dismiss the hard work of those who have finished it at the right difficulty. What it needs is vastly superior loot to encourage more people to participate/lead/learn.

There are bosses ahead of TT which need looking at long before though
- Karka Queen. I would say of the most urgency since Southson needs all the boost it can get
- Harathi. A bit of a damp squib when you think the centaur meta has followed across 4 maps and ends here
- Taidha. I know she’s only human, but she needs something to make the fight more interesting. Maybe the Fort firing back or something? Maybe she has a monster pet.
- Jormag. Not in a bad place, but could use bringing into line with newer mechanics.

Limited w/o Heart of Thorns: crafting, etc

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Randulf.7614

Legendaries were always craftable via the forge with some stages using actual crafting,

The confusion is not legendary crafting changing, but that HoT introduced precursor crafting. That is the only addition to the system. The system for non HoT players is the same as it ever was for the original legendaries, but you can only obtain a precursor via a drop, the tp or the forge as it always used to be.

Grandmaster Hobbs only gives recipes for the precursor crafting, which leads to making a legendary. He is also the only way you can get a precursor for the new legendaries.

Crafting is still relevant for the later stages of the legendary

I like the size of it and that it captures so many aspects of the game, world bosses, squads, new QoL options, balances, wvw fixes, gliding etc

My main concern was how small balance was compared to the early previews. For example ele sceptre was mentioned as a key change, yet remained almost untouched – basically the early communication of intent did not always match what had actually changed.

Overall it felt positive though

(Returning Player) still grindy?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

More grindy. Harder to earn gold (dungeons were nerfed). Good places to earn gold via PvE nowadays is: Tequatl (2 gold daily) and fractals.

They keep nerfing things since years as far as I know,

thanks for all answers, no reason to download 25GB then- shame this game deserves better devs if you ask me…nerfing every single thing, removing story content and full focus on pvp is disgusting. I’m a mostly solo player in MMOs, and there’s literally nothing solo in GW2 and also income resources ruined by developers, which forces us to buy Gems. Doesn’t matter, I’m not going to spend a penny to them

thanks again

The opinion of 3 people above you does not constitute fact. May I suggest you wait for a wide array of opinions for before closing up shop?

There have been nerfs and buffs as there are in every MMO ever made and hardly every single thing has been nerffed. Full focus on pvp is just simply not the case. Strong focus yes, but they are seeing a pay off. I might hate pvp, but I hardly blame them for them wanting to put more focus on it.

At no point are you forced to buy gems. For anything. Ever.
The economy is contentious though, but it is entirely possible to make money in the game fairly easily. It’s balancing the mentality between hoarding and selling amongst other things.
In some ways there are improveemnts – legendaries no longer require vast reservoirs of gold since you can craft the precursor. Sure it takes longer and you require a bit of patience, but the requirement to spend gold has been pushed right back.

Is there grind? Yes. Is it essential? No, not quite, but even some of the social grinds are a bit OTT. I think most people will agree on that.

As for removing story content, only LS1 was ever removed. Nothing since and if you left a year ago, nothing has been removed from the story you have already played. The story itself has improved though, despite some issues with length and inconsistency with inclusions of existing lore.

It is also easier to criticise on the internet when you aren’t face to face or accountable to your words. What people say online are not what people say out loud to another.

The structure of the forum also doesn’t help. The general discussion subforum has probably done more damage than what has been gained. If it never existed and sub forums were more specific or focussed, with strong moderation, the culture could have been bred differently over the past 3 years.

You say that Andrew, but old Shatterer regularly had bulging zerg groups and this fight will get easier as ppl learn new methods. If it is being beaten so easily and so utterly now, it will actually be worse ( easier) long term. That is something we have learned with almost every encounter since launch and the map will still be full long term. Achievements, dailies, collections…they all help ensure that as you increase your new playerbase.

Great job in finding the time to get this update in, it was needed and it clearly resulted from years of feedback, but I personally think it needed just a bit more challenge to give it uniqueness.

It felt a bit flat for me. Certainly an improvement, but also didn’t feel dangerous enough for a dragon fight. Move, dodge and shoot, the only frantic bit was the ccing of the crystals, which was well done.

Whilst it didn’t need to be of Teq difficulty, it never felt like it could ever fail or have much of the interesting mechanics Anet has been doing a better job of implementing in its fight. Perhaps more could be made of the lightning and also the crystallising people. Perhaps the gliding could have been more crucial.

An improvement and much needed, but much less than I had personally hoped. It was well received in map chat though.

What have you done to TD meta?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Randulf.7614

If you want a challenge go to raids or fractals. Open world is meant to be fun for the casual player. Before it was not fun, not it is.

I’m going to have to disagree with you on this. It’s a difference of opinion so we likely will never agree. The one thing I do want to know is where it was stated that open world is meant to be for the casual player and that it must be easy. Casual does not equate to skill level.

It’s not stated and it doesn’t have to be. However, open world is far more accessible than instances and is the play area of choice for the widest array of players. Therefore, it needs to cater to the broadest skill level, which almost always sits at the less challenging skill level. Most MMO’s which have had hard and challenging open world areas, have had to nerf or de-clutter their maps to cater for a wider audience for sustainability.

Lotro did this as a classic example – it removed group zones and added soloable mobs as the game grew and the playerbase became split, it became less and less sustainable to have challenging open world areas, as the majority of players were being put off. They moved all their challenging content into instances – using a tiered difficulty system to break up the challenges further. Whilst I can see how the quality of the experience suffered, many embraced the changes as they felt less shut out from the areas of the game they shouldn’t have been.

So it’s not catering for casuals, since you are right, casuals is the wrong term and doesn’t equate to low skill, it’s catering to the widest possible audience.

But why must nearly all open world content cater to those of a lower skill set? Many people enjoy large scale encounters such as Teq, Marionette, vanilla Gerent, TT, etc.

Maybe Anet should create map-wide instances for those that want large group oriented challenges. They can then increase the rewards.

I don’t disagree with that bit – some amazing raids can be had from wide open areas, but as I said, it is unsustainable to have a game’s open world limit itself to the gamers who want challenging content. Lower skill level players make up the majority of most mmo’s. It is good business sense for Anet to avoid limiting their maps to just those of higher skill – that’s why they put in the raids.

The only way that can change is if the metrics for the raids show that equal numbers of different players play open world vs the raid over a period of time – something very unlikely to happen, but would show that challenging content is more desirable in a wider area of their game.

Also, except TT, most of those prob no longer count as challenging content. Teq and Marionette perhaps at first, but they had decent learning curves. Gerent’s learning curve prior to the change was way too steep and unforgiving.

This leads to quantifying what is challenging content. Teq and TT are vastly different skill levels for example. Some will argue neither go far enough, some may see as too hard. Where does Anet draw the line as to what is challenging and what is not. If Gerent was deliberate and people simply did not play that zone, the game and expac suffers and 25% of the open world starts being abandoned. And that has knock on effects. That leads to nerfing. It’s easy to blame Anet, but they need to work on the bigger picture – catering for the broadest possible audience.

Karka Queen should be by far and away the stand out choice in my opinion. Maw, Behe etc are all starter zone bosses and Jormag already has enough mechanics to be a lower on the priority list.

I would also argue the Centaur boss in Harathi, since it’s a decent event chain and really it culminates the whole centaur meta building through several maps. It needs a grander ending.

They fixed a bug first of all, but even if it was a deliberate nerf, it was unsustainable to have a major map event so hard. It pleased the hardcore crowd, but it was causing so many people not to even bother trying. That is not something healthy or sustainable in an open world format. It needs to have a chance to fail, but not to the extent where it was failing almost every time.

Challenging content exists, but in raids, where it should remain, otherwise maps will die very quickly, especially when the meta rewards tokens and leyline sparks which are a necessity for a wide array of things including guild halls. Culling an opportunity to gain those is folly.

Precursor Crafting too expensive

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

It is only too expensive if you buy everything. So far, I’ve nearly built Rodgort and the precursor only cost me where impatience set in. The rest I have got from farming or playing events or mats gained from alt levelling/world completion.

I’m also stockpiling mats for Astralaria long term and I’m already doing well getting amalgamated gemstones. Orbs themselves maybe not be a fast drop, but you can craft them very easily.

The high costs exists, but only if you choose to shorten your journey.

Having worked in the games retail industry, i would be shocked to see an expac go on sale so quickly after release, especially during Christmas, which would have been extremely poor business sense.

New Year sales are not what they once were, especially for games. A few places did discount it in the sale, but Anet would have wisely thought that such a discount directly from them so soon would set a very bad precedent for future expacs.
If people knew an expac was going to be discounted 3 months after launch, it could significantly affect expected preorder sales and potential early interest.
