They did the same with Berserkers Ebb and Berserkers Flow. Beautiful skins, but very, very rare and only the sword and warhorn.

Maybe they are picking and choosing skins for certain weapons now

A Cthulhu derivative might be copyright protected. I think also it is expected to begin with “S” based on clues in LS2/ Also the Sclerite weapons might be a clue

I don’t think so. I’m pretty sure that the Sclerite weapons are named as such because they have those creepy blinky eyes on them. The Sclera is the medical term for the white part of the eye. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sclera

That being said, perhaps the sea dragon is a weird eyeball-y freak.

But I do quite like “Selbbub”.

I hope that A-net add some of this crazy fan theory into the game when Steve McBubbles appears.

You are correct, but Anet has form for naming Dragons after myths or using twistings on existing terms. Jormag’s name being inspired by the Wurm from Ragnarok for example and if wiki is to be believed, Zhaitan is similar to the Islamic word for Satan. Sclerite, whilst less obvious a term to use, is now in the Tyria naming system and it’s possible a corruption of the word could relate to the Dragon.

Next attempt, same 5, we obliterated it. We just changed our builds up a bit, utilised some of the elites and someone switched to a Revenant.

They were expected since they were a prominent part of GW1 – they displayed your guild emblem. I think clipping was the original issue, and prob still is since it plagues so many things. That’s the given reason anyway…

the real reason is..

Wanze bought them all and has a monopoly on them. He occasionally can be seen parading a choice one whilst trotting around Tyria on his mount, challenging all to a duel

I don’t think it is a concern and it certainly isn’t indicative of a new normality. In fact I’m much more surprised to see so few after 3 years. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like over inflated prices either – that’s just because I have a personal preference towards more obtainable loot tables.

It doesn’t indicate an unhealthy economy or an issue with the game at all – this is very common in MMO’s to have such massively high prices.

Frankly, whoever sold/bought it…good luck to them I say.

I believe the event UI timer is for the first guild to start it and participation is based on all runners from all players successful in that time limit, no matter who they represent.
The flag is also for the first guild who activates.

Your personal timer for the guild isn;t shown, although it might be from the guild mission tab. Our guild just declares after 1 person wins to get guild credit and then runs a second attempt to get everyone personal credit to avoid confusion.

Players don’t seem to get credit if you have declared victory even if the timer is still running and they make a successful run

They are my observations, but happy to be corrected

I believe that is not how it works. You get 1 single slot independent of bags, for 1 item to share between all characters on an account. You can’t use it for bags.

I suppose gliding mastery will be available to everyone? including core and f2p accounts? if not they are going to feel excluded, not being able to follow a commander to say one example. I can imagine already, if you cant fly, get out!

It will be based on the mastery system. If you have gliding mastery in maguuma, you’ll have it in Tyria.

ANet Sean Source
EDIT: Sorry about the misunderstanding. That line specifically is referring to the currently existing “Glider Basics” mastery, not a new one.

Next post:
Anet_Sean
Apologies, I mis-read your post. Earlier in development you needed to earn a new Mastery ability to glide in Central Tyria, but we changed that so that the Gliding masteries you already earned just work in Central Tyria by default. I thought you were referring to that, and not the blog post.

If they feel left out, they can always buy the expansion and get it. A business doesn’t hand out for free things that are the big attractions for an expansion.

Interesting info. So ArenaNet was actually doing the RIGHT thing first, then changed mind to force people to buy expansion. For me is really obvious, the core Tyria mastery was intented to be for everyone for free.

Maybe they thought forcing people to learn another mastery line and gain more mastery points wasn’t any better solution and could penalise HoT players if they had no spare mastery points left

Not everything is polish and QOL. If new maps is what you desire, then they will come as the new content. New races may never happen anyway since they have outwardly stated they aren’t keen on adding them as they add little for the cost of developement.

Can't avoid Jumping Puzzles? Why?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

Maybe, but jumping is an integrally mixed in part of the pve game and was one of the earliest advertised things about GW2 during development. I understand the hatred of JP’s I really – I hated them for a long while and I still avoid some aspects where I know frustration outweighs fun, however I do recognise and accept that they are part and parcel of the pve experience with GW2.

There is very little mandatory content for them though and where there is, aids are in place.

eg: Dry Top, the crystals far and away make the experience easier
and in Maguuma Gliding + mushrooms almost completely negate the need for much jumping.

GW2’s style hinges on things like an action orientated combat and a focus on jumping and utilising as much dimensions of gameplay (hence underwater combat and gliding). I really doubt they will deviate from this direction since is so fundamental to the game itself and opens up a lot of options for them to develop content.

As for “carebears” who avoid pvp (like me), well pvp is very different to pve and thus is developed and founded with different principles. It also attracts a different playerbase. It is good development sense to keep the two separate and not force either type of player together. They haven’t always succeeded here and more work still needs to be done, but they do a better job than many at keeping them separate, as well they should.

Comparison: Eye of the North and HoT

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

I am not disputing HoT has issues. I am disputing the comparison being used. GW1 is the wrong game to compare to in so many ways.

By that logic, no one should ever compare how they are doing compared to how they used to perform. Then the world would never improve. Guild Wars is the perfect game to compare Guild Wars 2, because it’s the successor of Guild Wars 2. At the very least, it’s a design sibling/child.

Except its a different type of game with different costs and approaches required. People (generally) don’t compare WoW to WC. Nor any other game where the original and sequel changed tack and genre. The GW1 to GW2 argument has been done to death over the last 3 years and most people have understood the comparison doesn’t fit. Even those comparers which are fair and bias free and aren’t out to prove one side is better, have understood the comparison has little value.

Also I don’t disagree with you about the bosses not being improved enough – I regard that as valid feedback, but you specifically said they hadn’t been done, when they had and that was what my reply directed to.

Randulf.7614

If you want to make comparisons, then compare HoT to its contemporaries like TESO or FF14 and see if or how their expacs enhanced their respective games, but not by comparing GW2 to an old, different and significantly cheaper to develop for game.

So DirectX 9 is more difficult to develop in than DirectX 8? Seems kind of backwards of what updates usually result in, but i’ll take your word for it. I guess all of the money that were backing them up in comparison to when they began developing Guild Wars 1 isn’t enough.

It is a vastly different style of game and even the developers have said it is significantly harder to code for for what they are trying to do with GW2 vs GW1. Also remember, we have had 2 seasons of story in between where money has been invested. GW1 did not have in-between content seasons to develop as well.

I am not disputing HoT has issues. I am disputing the comparison being used. GW1 is the wrong game to compare to in so many ways.

Randulf.7614

You forgot to write ‘so far’ on the HoT side of the equation.

Once it is complete (as EoTN is), it will be more equitable to compare them.

Good luck.

Well it’s been 3+ years since Guild Wars 2 has been released. Still waiting on their re-design of basically all of the bosses in GW2. Have yet to see that happen, so good luck with the HoT additions.

The re-design happened. Whether you like it or not is a different matter, but the following bosses received updates to mechanics

- Tequatl
- Jormag (very minor though to fix exploits)
- Golem
- Wurm
- Maw
- Behe
- Shatterer

Sure, more could be done, but they still did updates to bring them to where they wanted to be. I think the main argument has been that Shatterer wasn’t updated anywhere near enough and I agree wit that.

Comparison: Eye of the North and HoT

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

The campaigns are completely incomparable or at least in terms of map content. GW1 zones had minimal content per map, it just shoved dozens of maps in with very little content in each, whereas HoT zones have lots of repeatable content. I can also list plenty of expacs with less maps than HoT. Lets not forget Lotro introduced Moria which was one map, yet at the time was regarded as one of the best MMO expacs ever. Subsequent expacs then actually shrunk in size and content..

GW2 and GW1 require vastly different sized development teams and times. GW1 was clearly much easier and more straightforward to develop expacs for and whilst I commend the game for being one of the best ever of it’s genre, comparing it to its sequel is not the right comparison.

As for the cost, well game costs have risen in the in between years. You only have to look at D3 and SC2 expacs to see how expac costs have risen. Stwar Wars Battlefront – £50 for an unfinished game, then ridiculous amounts of money for the maps that should have been in from the start. OK, off topic slightly, but the standard pricing for video games has risen along with costs involved. COmparing EOTN price with HoT is again a poor comparison.

If you want to make comparisons, then compare HoT to its contemporaries like TESO or FF14 and see if or how their expacs enhanced their respective games, but not by comparing GW2 to an old, different and significantly cheaper to develop for game.

Why I think HoT failed

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

I can see that point of view, but their idea was to move the events in semi-real time and keep it going as a “living map”. In that respect it works. It’s an idea which is divisive. Some players absolutely love the idea and some people don’t, but it has achieved their design goal for this expac. People wanted less static maps so they came up with this as a solution. One which may or may not stick.

Why I think HoT failed

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

The complaints I have seen are often identical to the hate given to core tyria, season 1 and season 2 over the last 3 years, they’re just re-directed at the expac.

I’m not saying your opinion of it being a failure is invalid, I’m just not understanding your criteria. It did provide greater challenge – better ai, harder mobs, group events, raids – all specifically asked for by the community.

Better rewards is more tricky. The rng is still a bit of a plague, but improved collections, raid exclusives, precursor crafting, new mats which sell strongly on the tp, improved map rewards, all point to an improved direction. Not perhaps where many want, but not necessarily a huge failure either.

If you don’t find it fun, well that’s a subjective thing. Not sure I can say anything to the contrary to make you think otherwise – you are entitled not to enjoy it of course. I happen to find it massively good fun in most areas important to me personally.

What timers are broken by the way? I agree the DS mechanic is a bit silly, but what else?

Perhpas, but for new players who simply have no idea what you mean, ele’s are quite tough to level and a lot is to do with their squishyness. Compared to Warriors who have an incredibly easy time of it whilst levelling, ele’s are placed about right in that list imo. ELe’s also have more skills to learn, since once a player has decided what weapons to use (and even Anet stated most players stick to one weapon they like and never deviate), they have 5+5 to learn, whilst ele’s have 4×4 to learn.

I would not agree to have thief and necro above guardian though

At level 80, it becomes very different.

I do like the idea of glass statues as well to make 500 jeweller relevant.

How is Anet going to top Mordremoth?

in Lore

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

You also have to consider the environment. Jormags domain is arguably more challenging with the intense cold/raging blizzards and the power of Jormag must be pretty intense since the native people – Kodan Norn, Quaggan all fled south. Whereas in Maguuma, the Hylek tribes, the Dry Top Centaurs, the Skritt and even the Chakk remain.

Same with Bubbles. Karka and Krait driven out despite being formidable species.

Strategically Primordus’s location makes him much more formidable. Getting access to underground is much more limiting and bottlenecked, whilst he could be anywhere deep down.

If Kralk his bordering Elona, that brings us closer to Palawas armies and that throws up more challenges.

That’s just the basics, as someone said, good story writing could throw up any number of factors individual to each dragon not known of so far.
