AlSo remember that if one party member is at the dungeon waypoint, as long as you are in the zone, it will port you inside when dungeon starts.

The only change id advocate for waypoints is less pf them or a better spread. Some areas have waypoints next to each other. Which seems counter productive.

possible Gliding areas

Randulf.7614

It’s not going to happen. It would require more time and energy than it’s worth. It’ll mean that some vistas will lose integrity. Some jumping puzzles will lose integrity. It would mean a dev team not only having to go through each map, but a dev team having to constantly go back and fix each map. The maps weren’t designed for flight. All the new maps will be.

Don’t know why but that sounds stupid to make an awesome mechanic just for one area, expansion s are supposed to release features not just for new content but for the original content as well.

That last has precedent against it. Lotro put mounted combat in expac and beyond only. Tsw has end game aegis weapons system in the last zone and aegis shield only in tbe last 2 sections of the zone.
There are other examples in games as well.

Some games implement expansion features to core and some dont. If they do not, it is with good reason ( as in this case) even if player logic differs.

Ranger gets staff, thief gets rifle

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Randulf.7614

Neither situation is known. People are quoting thief will get rifle, thief will get staff, ele will get sword, ele will get warhorn etc etc..

We dont know if elite specs will duplicate weapons. It was an assumption based on fair distribution of the weapons, but its just as likely anet will go for whichever weapon is most appropriate regardless.

The key thing is that is all speculation. So many threads claim absolute fact and this isnt the case until an official announcement hits.

Guns in fantasy mmos

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

That’s because fantasy is often stereotyped by the worlds Conan and Lotr and D&D laid down. Simply put fantasy is and should be, so very much more than that. It’s just whether guns are introduced in the right way to the setting and not simply for the sake of it.

I think GW2 pulls it off reasonably well by trying to show a technological advancement blended alongside magic. Such tech advancement is an oft overlooked part of fantasy evolution in a series or franchise.

10 euros for an expac would be wonderful for the community, but utterly unsustainable for their business to thrive, expand or invest from. I don’t believe £35 is too expensive personally, especially as I went into my local game store today and saw the new Batman game for £55. That is a game, which Im sure is great, but would have enormously less gameplay and repeat value for me, for 45% more money. Looking around, this was very much the norm for game prices.

Game are more expensive to make versus the cost of return these days, so prices have gone up. 3 years ago, £40-£45 was the average price and now it’s £50-£50 for little extra gain beyond graphical detail.

Expacs are the same – D3 RoS was £30 as was Starcrafts expac. FF14’s expac was£30 and that charges a sub on top, making it more expensive long term.

The price is always going to hit people differently based on their financial circumstances which is why gaming is classed as a luxury purchase. Also, it isn’t necs Anets fault. Shareholders at NCSOFT will likely have had some input or expectation of price which will have influenced things.

The expac is $50/£35. New players get it the core game for free and all future expacs will give the previous expacs and core for free going forward – it is part their business model as stated in the community address on the subforum and on the homepage.

As for the discussion on whether people think it’s fair, there are dozens of threads you can view around the forum on that subject

The shield’s utility is too low for the high cool downs linked to them. Guardians are especially problematic, because the push effect on Shield of Absorption actually makes group fights harder, and don’t last long enough to really provide protection against the slow attack speed of most mobs. And the Shield of Judgement only gives a few seconds of Protection boon and trivial damage. At least on the Engie its 3 seconds of Mobile reflect and a ranged stun, while Warriors get a stun and a long block.

If I had to make a simple suggestion, I would say give the Knock back to Shield of Judgement (which is easier to aim), and give Shield of Absorption pulsed protection for people fighting inside of it.

This make a TON of practical sense, as the bubble can be used to surround allies in a Melee fight, and the judgement shield’s cone is easier to aim.

Really good idea

Yes, and after they presold the game with the promise of access to any next beta event, all betas were only beta weekends. Unlike now.

That is actually not entirely correct.

Pre-purchase started on April 10th. There were tests after that which didn’t include everyone that have pre-purchased.

It is of course also worth pointing out that they never said any next beta event, but rather every Beta Weekend Events, just like this time.

The balance and traits patch? Neither, im just as glad as i was. Why would the patch alter my opinion though?

after the patch you have a more clear perception of the direction the game is taking.
I almost pre-orded, so grad i didn’t….

But i followed the preview notes and the announcements, so i knew exactly the direction of the game. Bugs aside, im rather happy with the overall direction this patch has taken things. It has opened new possibilities with builds, condition is viable at last, and the game is well set up for future elites, which will make for some tough and intriguing decision making. That in turn sets up the game for more interesting encounters to be developed.

Plus new LA has been lovely to explore, with an enjoyable karka hunt – the type of scavenger hunt i want to see more of in game.

If you want a balanced discussion though, id be happy to hear more why you think otherwise. You haven’t really given any insight or detail

If i were to chime concerns tho, it would be the following..

The need for more testing or a test server. I dont know why one doesnt exist, but hope the case is stronger post patch.

The time it took to disable the problem traits.

The fact ls1 isnt started. I understand why though, i will say it need prioritising post HoT though. Thats my opinion for the continuity of the game as a whole.

These dont affect my decision since they arent problems i feel detract from my purchase, just things i feel need addressing

I pretty much concur with Konig. I think there are golden opportunities to learn the lessons of hindsight on S1 and make the changes you see fit that would improve things. S2 showed how you are improving the narrative and using that on S1 can only be a good thing.

Whilst I’m sad no work has been started on S1 since it is vital it is restored for the continuity of the story between PS and S2/HoT, I do appreciate that you have come out been honest with us. No false promises, no “watch this space” placitudes. It tempers the disappointment a lot, especially as any reasonable person will understand the demands of the expac on your time.

I would however concur with the above suggestions something is put in game to bridge the gap. I am friends with players who pretty much are oblivious to S2 existing and if they started it, would be utterly confused. Maybe the UI could direct the player to a herald in LA, directly after finishing the PS to play a video of what happened and then move onto S2 from there. Plus the addition of the panel Konig suggests.

Toughness vs Vitality for Guardians

Randulf.7614

His damage is extremely poor, but he offers a lot of support and healing options

The point is, dont focus on a stat set, but mix up to get what you need

How many characters do you have?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

Total Characters (across two accounts): 15

- Mesmer: 2 – both level 80
- Guardian: 2 – both level 80
- Necromancer: 2 – both level 80
- Ranger: 2 – level 80 and level 36
- Elementalist: 1 – level 80
- Warrior: 4 – two level 80, one level 75, and one level 7
- Thief: 1 – level 80
- Engineer: 1 – level 80

And then I have one keyfarm slot, beta slot, and empty slot on my main account. One empty slot on my second account.

Just out of curiosity why would one have 2 accounts for 15 chars when 1 account easily can cover 15 chars? What advantage would there be to it?

My guess is when the game was 75% off, people bought extra accounts, which could then get extra dailies/laurels

Thief Elite Spec

Randulf.7614

Nothing has been debunked since Rev elite has not been announced.

No datamined material is considered accurate since so much has ended up being scrapped.. It might be true or it might not be. That is the best we can say at this stage

Thief might be getting staff, it might not
Has there been ranger confirmation of staff? If not same rule applies.
Rev might be getting shield, as normal or elite. It might not.

it is when the artist were paid to make art for the elite specs.
thats far different than just coding in place holder skills.

Concept art has existed for things that never made it into game before though. Voice actors were paid for lines that never made it into the game – like the whole Marjory death scene in LS1. That too was datamined

I’m not saying thief wont get staff, but people need to stop acting like it is absolute fact. It isn’t until it’s announced – something That_shaman has vigorously tried to communicate at times.

Biggest Worry: Old personal Story.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

I don’t disagree, but GW1’s narratives were never particularly strong either early on. Also, 3 years on is perhaps too late to be worrying about the core story putting off new players – we’ve all played through the PS and are still here despite it.

The philosophy of MMO’s these days is to make the early story easier and easier, quicker and quicker, adding in shortcuts wherever possible. This allows its players to access the newer content faster.

This is why Zhaitan probably became soloable
This why Lotro removed all it’s lower lvl group content and buffed players to ease through the once harder story elements
This is why TSW, once lauded for its challenging story arcs, nerfed the campaign story this year.

Will Anet improve the personal story? No, it really has no reason if the majority of players haven’t been put off by now. And it’s resources unlikely to be spent, when LS1 still needs rebuilding and the community clamouring for new content.

Will Anet improve its storytelling in all the areas you listed? I believe yes. There are precedents – Prophecies and Factions were God awful narratives (imo), yet EOTN was excellent in comparison. Living Story 2 was a big improvement from the get go on the PS and LS1. It still needs to avoid constant overuse off cliffhangers and amateurish “more questions than answers” as an approach, but improvement exists.

Well yes, you will see people want trinity roles because that’s an engrained attachment with MMO’s. There are also people who like to play a defined, rigid role. That ill be the case forever during the game’s lifetime.

However, I see far more people against the trinity role in GW2 by a country mile. It’s a huge selling point to the game. Whilst the game continues to tweak it and ofc has had problem with the zerker meta (which highlights why a full dps set of stats could have been a flaw from launch), generally it pulls if off pretty well.

I have a 5-6 year old PC. The 2 things I noticed in the beta were that the heavy smoke effects made it chug extremely badly. Comparable to the dredge area in FG. I will be upgrading my PC within the year, but I’ll bring that forward if the beta weekends show my PC to have more issues with the effects (I play on medium settings btw)

Also, new LA is indicative of the gfx improvements. If neither the smoke effects, haze effects or new LA cause you any issues, then you are likely going to be fine.

Gaile said a while ago she believed no official raise in specs, but would check. I don;t think she remembered to get back to us though.

Otherwise the bank area in Divinitys Reach has always been very popular. It has the TP/bank/guild bank in one place.

I’m unconvinced Primordus could get there, I guess it depends how deep his tunnels run for him to travel beneath the seabed to reach it. It’s also a considerable distance from his starting location just under the east of FG. I know he will have travelled, but perhaps not that far.

I like the idea of returning the that area though
