I have to ask, I’m not connecting your thread title with your post. Can you elaborate more on what you are proposing? I’m intrigued by the concept of a legendary backpack, but your post doesn’t mention anything about that.
Seems an idea to use essence of luck in crafting a legendary back item.
I actually wouldn’t mind recipes in all areas of crafting that used essence of luck. I liked that some was required in crafting Mawdrey/Mawdrey II.
The only problem I see is that essence of luck is so prevalent. You’d probably have a full stack of the fine in 2 days, the masterwork in maybe a week just through regular play. Then the others are so rare people would complain about never getting any of that type. Maybe a way to convert the fine/masterwork into rare/exotic essence of luck would be needed as well.
U can convert up to exotic already with an Articifer

My 2 mains are completely made up – Randulf Rawhide and Goliath Bill. No idea where the latter came from in my head (my name is not Bill and I’m average height!), but the former is a play on Gandalf when I played Lotro and Rawhide is because he often has a “gunslinger” play persona to him.
Latronius Wolfe is my thief. The name was inspired by Gene Wolfe’s Latro in the Mist books
Orpheus Argonaut is a greek mythological inspiration obviously
Titus Augustine popped into my head after reading Gormenghast. He’s a human noble with violet coloured eyes. The surname just popped into my head as a fit (I wanted Augustus but it was taken as a name)
Viktor Belmont is inspired by Castlevania
For pity’s sake people! You paid $60 for ~30 explorable areas (counting cities) in the base game. And now ANET is asking you to pay $50 for a THIRD of that MAYBE. And you’re perfectly fine with it. I just don’t understand.
Well, we are paying $60 if you count the cost of an extra character slot, which you will most likely need to play the revenant.
But yes, you have a good point. I don’t understand it either. Why are players paying the price of a full game for much less content?
Because it’s still more content than many full priced games and because we enjoy the game enough to pay out what to us is an acceptable amount of money.
It’s an individuals responsibility to decide if the value is worth it for them. For me it is, for you it isn’t. Neither of us is wrong in our opinions.

None of my toons were nerfed once i played with the options. My warrior is prob on par, but thief and guardian heavily buffed. My ele slightly so, although perhaps more due to condition changes.
The new elites should really make for some tough options to choose from imo, which is a good thing.
That silver is really nice on that armour. What specific dye did you use?
And yes the wings will be back
i think it is white dye in the rare tab, i just returned like 2 days ago so not 100% sure ill let uno wen im able to log on.
Works really well!
I will warn i put them on my similarly clad guardian. And walking around or static he looked fabulous.
Then i tried combat and the effect was hideous. The wings move nicely at first, but the flap and clip through the body making for some grotesque animations. I dropped them after 2 days.

The announcement on the homepage does not say that. It just says by july 31st. No mention of pre purchase end
Did they def confirm LW season 3? I know the last comment was they weren’t sure how they’d approach seasons again, but that was some time ago and I haven’t kept up beyond that announcement.
Speculation would leave me to expect any LW content to be post Xmas or early spring. They’d want a grace period for HoT to bed in and time for ppl to finish it. Plus we have Halloween and then Wintersday. That’s a lot going on for more content to then appear on top.
I think that depends on when HoT comes out. It currently seems to be around July 31st?…
That’s to do with a refund grace period for the pre-purchase. Whilst I’d welcome such an early release date, I’d b surprised if it was much before end of Aug/early September based on where they are with releasing info and no sign of a beta weekend yet.

They have not confirmed what will happen post-HoT with additional content drops. Either form or timings
No, its an additional slot on top of that for when beta weekends start. It’s completely separate and inactive until it’s required
Opinion is divided. No doubt some will be ruined, but conversely many new ones have popped up, some superior than older ones.
As for diversity, there are divided opinions again. SOme say we have less options, but more viable options, heralding an improved system. Some say we have limited options and are cursing the changes. I’ve found many more options for me personally, but for a better overview of the discussion there are a lot of threads around you can read up on. I’d especially check the Guardian forum if that’s a particular concern
Here’s the nearest thread on the discussion https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Why-limit-us-to-3-trait-lines/first#post5225694
All MMO’s do this periodically to try and keep balance in check.

To directly answer 2 of your questions;
Hero points are skill points now. Your excess became a currency called spirit shards which for the mystic forge crafting mats
Yes, you can have only 3 full trait lines. You can no longer take bits from any given line
There was a massive re-balancing this week and traits were merged, removed, added or changed. This is the result of the new specialisations system they communicated on the homepage a few months back approx
The changes were also connected to the upcoming elite specialisation coming in the expac, since one of the 3 full lines you will be able to take will be an elite trait line which will alter the way your class plays. This is just the early implementation to give themselves extra time for balances.
If you visit the most recent patch notes, you can read the final iterations that were put into the game, If you have any particular feedback, there are official threads in this subforum, but also ones in the profession subforums being collated by the forum reps.
One school of thought is that people will rush to him too quick and spoil the fight. Another is that they want to give people time to develop the requisite masteries to defeat him. Then release the fight or a build up + fight as a sep DLC. I’ve also seen people say that Zhaitan was taken down too quickly and they’d prefer a longer build up to an Elder Dragon this time
Perhaps we don’t even fight him although that wouldn’t be a wise move imo.
Personally, I’m not sure if I’d prefer him in the expac or not, although the impact might be greater in a single post-launch content drop.
Glad to know I’m not the only one who is disappointed with how little content has been hyped up so much
What are we getting altogether then? I’m assuming you know since you’re saying the xpac doesn’t have much content.
No one knows, which is his point. note that he said, “…how little content has been hyped up…” not “…how little content HoT contains…”
Even if HoT releases 3 maps (which is not based on any facts), there’s every reason to believe the content packed in would be pretty high.
What reasons would those be? Look at recent performance. DT is decent sized and contains a repeating meta consisting of some DE’s. SW has a single zone-wide repeating meta chain, with a surplus few events, JP, some explore, and two farming things — labyrinth and chest farm. As free additions, they’re fine. 2-3 such zones for $50 means that HoT is weighted more towards features than content.
Now, maybe there’s a lot more content to HoT than has been shown — but they have yet to show us much.
His earlier point stated as absolute fact there was little content. Scroll up to see that.
As far your second point, it comes down to perspective and interpretation. I shall re-phrase and say “I” have every reason to believe there will be enough content. From everything shown in the previews, what I played in the stress tests, streamed videos, I have seen enough to extrapolate what I believe a fair amount of content. Hence why I pre-purchased. Everything I have seen is either in line or greater than what I expected the expac to contain when they announced it in January and with other MMO’s I have played.
However, others disagree and that is fine and understandable and I have no issue if people are sceptical at this stage. It’s the claim of it being absolute fact that the content will be low, when the full reveal isn’t complete which needs to be steered away from.
Yes, I believe they were scaled down a bit for GW2. I forget why
So because those expacs contained no content it’s ok for gw2?
I’m not sure where you read that in my post, but judging by your post history you are determined to twist everything to show this lack of content you dearly want to occur
I can name plenty of expacs that have contained far less.
Can you?
I don’t meant to make it sound like I’m not confident Anet has a bunch of cool content hidden up their sleeve. They haven’t even announced what “challenging group content” is yet. But I can’t think of any major expansions that have contained less than what you mentioned.
Well every Lotro expansion has had 1 zone. Moria, Mirkwood, North Rohan and South Rohan (clever marketing said they had more, but everyone saw through that when the expacs dropped). Moria being the only exception since that had so much jammed into it, it is regarded as one of the finest MMO expacs of all time. But compared to the gigantic size of the core game, it was a small zone.
Anarchy online’s Alien Invasion had mostly features and a couple of instances. But those features drove the small amount of actual content. Compared to the Shadowlands expac which brought in an entire world, it was a bit of a shock, altho the content is still played today, 10 years on.
TSW technically hasn’t had an expac, but it’s DLC’s are around £15-£20. Tokyo as a full map was released over 3 of those and the combined total price was more than HoT. The size of the map across the last 3 DLC’s was about the size of Frostgorge Sound. The amount of content reflected that, but the price did not. It was too high in the later issues for maybe a week’s worth of play per DLC
Even if HoT releases 3 maps (which is not based on any facts), there’s every reason to believe the content packed in would be pretty high.
It’ll be related to elites I imagine. They don’t want people dipping in/out of an elite specialisation because that would completely defeat their point. So they went this route for consistency.
That’s my guess.
Oh and I also believe Karka should be brought up to Tequatls standards (as in pre-recent buff). It would revitalise a boss and a zone in one swoop.
Revitalize as in “I won’t even go there anymore because it’ll just overlap with the next boss”?
A fair point, the timers would need to be looked at. Or people would have to decide to go to an easy boss or a challenging one. I suspect that might be a good thing and keep both “skill” parties happy
Oh and I also believe Karka should be brought up to Tequatls standards (as in pre-recent buff). It would revitalise a boss and a zone in one swoop. And give people somethign new to work on until it was mastered
Tequatl isn’t meant to be like this. They are just trying to adjust his health pool to counter the rise in conditions. They put in a blanket fix which is highly suggestive of a “try it and see” tactic and will prob be slightly dropped back during this week. Their aim with Teq was to be more challenging than the other bosses yet inclusive.
As for the other bosses, well Wurm is stated to be aimed at 10-15% of the playerbase as quoted by a dev. Which whilst I have a differing opinion on, I have accapted that there needs to be a boss for that skill level.
Starter zone bosses are fully intended to be facerolled. That was stated as a design pricniple for them.
The others are a matter for debate. All content usually becomes trivial after repeated success. It’s more a case of having them at least meake you work a little. Golem for example is easy, but you still need to pay attention to avoid dying all the time.
Jormag is easy, but has some mechanics to keep you on your toes. Could use some tweaking to remove some safe spots.
Shatterer should never be that easy. It’s a dragon champion where you can avoid ever taking damage.
We still have bosses like Balthazar, Lyssa, Dwayna, Melandru and Grenth which also provide challenge. Perhaps Grenth more so than the others (and a fantastic boss fight that is)
At this stage of the games life with ane xpac due, there is nothing wrong with easy bosses to keep zones active. The place for challenging content will come with the expac. That’s where I believe it belongs at this point.
We were on one of the organised guild with TS maps. Didn’t fair a huge amount better tbh
Except the OP has missed out and changed several facts as has been highlighted by a few people in the thread.
I’m not against comparison, only it needs to be fair, accurate and based in fact
2) it’s a complicated issue. they’ve stated it is something that isn’t easy to fix. They aren’t deliberately trying to block people out of spite. It will take as much time as such an in-depth fix requires.
Actually, they have stated they already fixed the issue. The only reason it is still disabled is cause they haven’t REMOVED the rewards from the players who didn’t deserve them.
Quote from Chris Cleary:
I’ll go ahead and comment on this thread, as it seems to be the most recent of the HOM ones.
I’ll try to explain this without getting too technical, and some parts are probably going to have to be left out.
The bug that caused players to unlock achievements/skins/titles and achievement points was caused when the GW1 server that stores the HOM status talks to the GW2 server that controls new character creation. Basically it was sending bad data to the GW2 server, and unlocking achievements that should not have been unlocked.
This means that there were multiple problem points that need to be cleaned up. The first thing to be cleaned up was the bug that caused this to happen, and that was fixed within a few hours. However, the removal of the rewards is an entirely different problem.
We don’t have the tools to easily mass remove achievements/titles, which means it’s something that has to be developed. Unfortunately, this came at a time where our resources are tapped to the max, so it’s taking longer than we would like to fix this.
Thankfully (lol), when the HOM rewards bug was happening, the actual HOM was not accessible, and those players were not able to claim any other HOM entitlements…so the damage was somewhat limited.
We are working on this, I assure you, and we will remove the rewards from players that should not have received them. I do not have a timeframe, as modifying accounts at this type of level is not something we would ever take lightly, and as long as we keep a majority of the entitlements locked there is less for us to clean up.
So yeah, it’s fixed. It was fixed within a few hours of it happening. Now we are all just having to wait because they don’t want to enable it until they remove the rewards from those who didn’t deserve them. So because of that, we can’t access our HoM till then.
That’s the fix I meant. There are several comments on that situation from the QA testers which explain the difficulty in them fixing it and the time it is taking
In before the “Learn to play the game.” crowd comes in.
Many people in this game have are unable to understand that there are hardcore players and casual players. Usually, the hardcore players are the ones that hope the content is hard and challenging, while the casuals hope they can do events as casual or enjoyable.
ANET needs to please one of this crowd. They probably notice that the Hardcore crowd outnumbered the casuals in their metrics, so, guess what type of content ANET will dish out…..
I would be beyond amazed if this “hardcore” crowd anywhere near comes to close to the number of “casual” players.
1) who is we? I need stuff from it, ive bought the expac
2) it’s a complicated issue. they’ve stated it is something that isn’t easy to fix. They aren’t deliberately trying to block people out of spite. It will take as much time as such an in-depth fix requires.
What you encountered was this

That’s not really true. I am in one of those large organized guilds that run TT regularly and we welcome non-guildies too. We only ask that they get on teamspeak and listen. It’s absolutely not acceptable to be rude to them just because they might be new to the fight. As long as they listen and do their best, it’s fine.
It did say not everyone is like that. I am acutely aware there are welcoming guilds. But there are a large amount of ppl of who are unfortunately not as welcoming. I saw one particular troll from one the organised guilds in a moderately organised pug map standing around, not joining in and just shouting at everyone that they were failures.
The sad thing was, if they were as knowledgable as their guild is and their experience suggested, they’d have really been useful at helping the map through the event.
TTS, Att, TxS and gw2community are hardly nobody.
In the context of the whole population? They are insignificant. You are speaking about fractions of a single percent here. A tiny fractions at that. No content should ever be finetuned to such small subgroups, while being denied to everyone else.
Actually, Anet outright said TT was supposed to be “hardcore” content for super organized groups.
Yeah, i know. Doesn’t mean that was the right decision however. They have made a lot of blunders like that, when they do something for one group and forget to consider how will it affect others (the most visible one was the last prepurchase mess).
TT being challenging was the right call imo. Although I think it’s a tad too overtuned, lets put that to one side. The real issue is the lack community spirit around the boss. Those who like it persistently insult and often actively try to exclude (not always but often) lesser skilled players.
Conversely lesser skilled players often leech or don’t listen to instructions.
It’s perhaps one reason we don’t have raids yet. Anet wants harmonious group dynamics. It doesn’t always achieve it mind you, but it is a company that actively hates the use of “casuals” and “hardcore” and “elitism”.
TT would be a lot easier if both groups just worked together better
I never saw the original home city designs before they were scrapped. Poss related to those?
Otherwise it’s just the usual case of concept art not being true to the game, which is pretty standard anyway.
Good because I am unhappy with the greens we currently have!
There is no “right” answer. The likelihood is it will be brought down to be less overtuned, but you are otherwise right about merges. All have beenr equested to be merged due to so many duplicates. It just probably wont happen today due to virtually no moderation over the weekend.
It no longer increases any stats. That aspect was removed and base stats and armour were boosted to compensate
Mawdrey can consume anything between 3-6 bags a day. Nothing has changed
Anyone else noticed a change to their build when they go to WVW. An entire specialisation gets replaced. Is it a bug or have I missed something?
edit: seen the note in the patch notes. But they don’t save when I leave wvw and it resets again when I return. Is there a different way to save the build?

I think it’s an interesting connection and I can see why they’d use something like Diablo as inspiration for the first set of elites.
I’m just not sold they will use staff on 2 professions. Same with shield.
Admittedly I wont complain if Revenant gets shield. I do like a good shield class…
The diamond trait has always been good, but I hesitate to say overpowered. Eles are extremely squishy – it really doesn’t take much burst to knock that 10% off. If a condition hits on a skill which also damages, the skill damage applies first and if the health drops below the 90% the condition then applies. AT least that’s how it always used to on me.
The only thing that has changed is more will be using it since ppl can commit to the full earth line without losing something elsewhere, although many still don’t like the earth line.
Good trait, but easily worked around in a skilled environment like pvp is meant to represent
I find the options are there, but also there are more viable options for switching on the fly for specific scenarios. I think it is now set up to urgently need a build template to save things to.
We do not know thief spec isnt rifle. Datamining does not equate fact. It might be rifle, it might be staff. It might be neither.
The only issue ive had is with my warriors. The distinction between lines is blurry and my third trait line really only exists for one trait. I found i was taking traits for the sake of it.
However i have found greater synergy with my ele, thief and guardian. I dont play meta or follow optimum builds and Perhaps that is why i have been more positive about the trait changes and been enjoying the experimentation more
Be very careful about comparing NF maps to any GW2 maps, especially new ones. GW1 were generally light on content and had repeat value only for hard mode which was added later. Because of their small size of maps and lack of any real substance, they required substantially and I mean substantially less work work to make and develop than a GW2 map.
Take Dry Top. Dry Top alone has generated more time and content than any single GW1 map across any campaign;
- Coins to collect
- farming
- exclusive crafting reward
- an interesting and unique map mechanic
- a variety of different bosses with different mechanics
- jumping puzzles
By comparison what did Bahdok Caverns or Jahai Plains have? A couple of bosses, most of which had no discernable difficulty, some mobs, some pretty scenery confined by pathing, some non-repeatable quests. And that’s it.
You cannot compare GW2 and GW1 in terms of maps simply because the content ratio is utterly different and more time and effort goes into 1 single map in GW2. That’s why they churned NF out so quickly after Factions.

I hope ele does. To me it sounds more interesting than a sword and fits the tempest name better
Op, yes chrono sounds very interesting, but reaper has got my interest the most
You have also added trvial things like wurm mounts and varesh, whilst missing out there HoT counterparts – gliding, wyvern and the other bosses in the trailer.
To make comparisons you cant skew lists in favour of your own argument. You also missed out guild halls and masteries. The masteries would then need to be listed in different categories to meet your gw1 comparisons since some are quite substantial
The lack of challenge is exactly the point and how they want starter zones to be. Hence why some mechanics mobs use arent active until you move up a zone.
I dont disagree with your post tbh, but it is working exactly as intended atm
The gold cost is fine, i just think they should be exotic tier. The cost is only disproportionate to its rarity
