Why do they HAVE to role play in public?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I stumbled into some at Hoelbrak the other day. No idea what they were talking about, but it fascinating to see them engaged in what they were doing. I don’t RP and have no intrest in RP, however I sat there for maybe 10mins observing them and how they played and it occured to me that RPers have the potential to really enhance the Living World concept.

Frankly they should be encouraged and supported in my opinion

Permanent living story content
Improved champ rewards (which became champ boxes)
LFG tool
More varied mechanics in fights (eg Mordrem)
Reduction in Orr mob density
Title for defeating Liadri (was added 2nd timer around based on feedback)

My personal favs which make me chuckle are;
More ways to obtain ascended crafting mats…followed a few months later by…more ways to use up big influx of crafting mats (ie MAwdrey/Star)

Remove Restriction On Unique Ascended

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

If you have just recently bought 2 of the same unique ascended item, there is precedent for support to swap it for the other version (ie if you have 2 offensive, they might swap the new one obtained for the defensive version).

I dont think they should remove the unique tag for the reason given in this thread by eMKay, however I doubt anyone would really object if the unique nature of the rings was somewhat clearer.

Or they could add a vendor so you could swap an ascended ring for one of relevant stats. This might help alleviate the issue of those getting unwanted rings in fractals.

What cheshire is saying is that you can upgrade one of the rings that makes it a different unique item. Thus you can have one unique uninfused version and one unique infused version.

No title for completing all jumping puzzles?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

I think there are 2 issues with them not doing it

1- they are always adding more of both. There have been at least 5 JPs added since launch for example

2- Apparently they are unable to retroactively give titles for achievements in general

It is a shame though. More titles is always good, especially any that show off player skills

I don’t think 17 pages over a period of time counts as a “majority” of players considering how many people play this game and how many of those issues are likely resolved by now.

If it was the majority…that thread would be considerably longer. Considerably…

How about instead of trolling a genuine plea for a fix you do something productive. Most of these issues aren’t resolved and just because there aren’t more people complaining on the forums doesnt mean a serious issue shouldn’t be addressed over a week.

It wasn’t a plea they gave, it was a demand. I replied to say to submit a bug fix as stated in the second post in this thread. Something which worked for me when I had problems. Hopefully it will help the OP when they calm down, since shouting at the devs to fix their server with no other info provided wasn’t going to improve their issue.

Dear Mr. Stein, cliffhangers do not work

in Living World

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

You can get round it in part by

a) having less cliffhangers. To say they don’t work in MMO’s at all is silly. They do create speculation and people are actively discussing them and the next chapter – exatcly what Anet wants to happen. Unfortunately, I am uncertain if they are aware that there is far too many. A couple a season is enough…more than enough, otherwise they lose their power. You comment about the MMO world never being completely on halt is more spot on for GW2 than anything else.

b) Giving out answers. I think one of the big lessons that now has to be learned (and quickly since it hasn’t from season 1 despite the promising start to S2) is that you can’t keep leaving more and more questions unanswered as time goes on. You need to feed back answers to the player. This isn’t a book or a film where you are inactively engaged in the story or are going at your pace. Players are confined to Anets release pace and are actively involved in the story. It’s a different medium entirely and can’t be templated against other forms of media.
We are even still waiting on answers from season 1!

Living Story will always divide the community. Always. But, GW2 needs to do its own natural thing rather than mish mash cliffhangers and flashbacks into a story just because thats what blockbuster TV series do.

HAve submitted a ticket? Provided info on the tech forums?
Lag issues are complex, demanding “FIX THIS” will not fix it in any shape or form. Giving them suitable info however and working the tech team will fix it for you.

As this isn’t affecting the majority of players (since the entire community would be kicking and screaming if it was) it must be localised to yourself or your ISP.

Send a ticket it and let them help you fix it

Id love the option to gift someone living story chapters. There are plenty of returning people who will feel gated by the idea of buying content for their story.

Id imagine a living story ticket which could be gifted to a player which could then unlock any one chapter. In theory its a win win situation. Anet gets money, more players potentially to play the game, and gifters get a warm fuzzy feeling inside!!

They stated a few weeks back there will be some changes reverted back in the mission sequence, but that it was a time consuming job and there was no time frame for completion

Technically all they said is that they are working on fixing the issue. They never said the word “revert” in any variation, synonym, or synonym’s variation.

A strangely pedantic reply, but in order to appease, I have edited my post accordingly

TSW is very much a more involving game. Whilst the missions can be paused, a full main mission can take upwards of an hour. It isn’t as casual as GW2 by far. It also has a much darker atmosphere… there are few smiles or happy characters in TSW for sure.

Now I am getting back into GW2 a little, I use them both for their own merits. GW2 for a casual jolly, TSW if I want to play something serious.

Overall though, with the changes to GW2, TSW is the better game and I couldn’t really vote for GW2 in this arena in good faith. GW2 has the fun, TSW has better storyline and delivery, so much so that I feel GW2 vs TSW in that regard is like a one-armed man in a boxing match.

Let me know how you feel in two years. It’s always easiest in the honeymoon period.

Both games are the same age, give or take a couple of months, unless I misread what you meant

TSW = July 3rd, 2012
GW2 = August 28th 2012

Yeah not much in it as I said. Makes for a good stand off against each other as well considering they are the same age

Sure but a guy playing it for a couple of weeks won’t have seen the flaws (and there were plenty). Not to say it isn’t a good game, because I still play it occasionally.

But as when someone posts how good Guild Wars 2 is when they just start, and people come on the forums to tell them just wait till you’ve played a while, the same is true of other games as well.

Guzzi is definitely in the honeymoon period.

Ah my bad, I missed his earlier post about being a new starter to the game, hence my confusion

That can only mean that they’re not going to put it back as they should do, all the parts in the correct order, as that’s the easiest of all the things they could have done.

Apparently it isn’t easy to fix the issue, although it is unclear whether the fix involves reverting it or cleaning it up to make more sense.

Itll be interesting to see who wins. Many of the criticisms levied at gw2 are much worse in tsw.

1 new zone in 2 years
No new dungeons except one half hearted raid
Massive gear grind…one of the biggest in any mmo
Recycled festival content
Pay to win items in the cash shop
Paying for quests

It has many good points and the devs are great at keeping their community up to dare and is a very good game with outstanding story writing, but despite the issues gw2 has suffered, it has a future with soo much potential where it can go. The big concern in the tsw community is post next content patch, is that the game done.

Whichever game wins deserves it as they are both excellent, but the fact i play gw2 more and dont have to worry where my next gear grind will be, means Gw2 is my choice.

Both games could learn much from each other in some areas

Between testing and live, things break and bug out. Happens in any game regardless of how much testing you do. MMO’s are extremely hard to prevent bugs happening in.
