Yes, i rather like the new dailies, but what would improve on this would be to either broaden the zones or for dailies to be different for each account. That way it splits up the zergs across different zones and also different bosses, rather than clustering like it does now.

Yes i liked step 4 as an idea, altho having thee type of infusion for one dungeon seems iver the top. Grinding out a gear piece to do a dungeon has always baffled me as a chicken and egg appeoach to gaming.

Norhing wrong with the rest of it, except its all a bit run of the mill. Which is what the raid cdi was set up to work ideas away from. I like some of your mechanics ideas though

Kudos for putting time and thought into it though.

Question About Metrics

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

The thing is, we’ve been hearing for years from a number of devs from different companies that people don’t really enjoy the harder content. Some people do, but not most people. It’s not one or two guys saying this. Anet doesn’t only have the metrics from Guild Wars 2, they know what people played in Guild Wars 1 as well. They learned what most people play. You may not believe it, but that doesn’t make it less of the truth.

A few months ago, a Lotro dev who left the company (and thus could no longer be gagged) said that not only did less than 10% of the Lotro population raid, but less than 10% of the population raided since the game launched. He also said that forum posts by that group made up 50% of the posts.

This isn’t just Anet pulling numbers out of the air. First of all, more people solo in MMOs than most of us would like to believe. And those people tend not to do dungeons at all and none of them would care about dungeons unless they made a solo version.

Secondly, a lot of people just don’t want to be yelled at or kicked from groups, and they have a bad experience and stop doing it completely. Why play a game if you’re not having fun.

I’m relatively certain there’s a fairly big demographic of the game that will either never do a dungeon, or only do dungeons reluctantly.

It was an interesting revelation, especially for a game which had such outstanding dungeons. Certainly the best in an MMO Ive played and to read so few people played them considering how highly regarded they were made me look at the mmo genre with new eyes.

That said, disregarding them entirely just upsets 10% of the playerbase. Which is consequently what they have done. I’d hate to see that here.

I also remember the same philosophy being applied to pvp since that was always an MMO’s weakest community by numbers, but also by far its most vocal. That appears to have changed as resources committed to it (and also more pvp orientated games appeared to compete against).

As for metrics? Well stats can tell you anything you want, but it depends entirely on the context you use them in and whether you take into account why those stats are the way they are.

Narrative Device: Playing as NPCs

Fractals does it so much better. Although it might not always be you in graphics, it is still your build, your weapons, your chosen skills.

Playing as Caithe, whilst interesting for the story was offputting since you are thrown into the deep end without being able to learn the skills and associate with them over time. This works very much against the point and spirit of an MMORPG for me.

Hopefully, this was a one off, but it might interest you there is already a main thread on this subject with lots of views already https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/lwd/I-want-to-play-my-own-characters/first

I think it has potential for a brand new weapon to be honest. The warrior mace has a nice block function which doesnt fit a morningstar as well. I could see this having cripple or bleeds maybe. Perhaps as part of a whip subset that could root enemies?

I agree, id equip something like this on a barbarian themed toon as well

The trend in many mmos is to make smaller new maps. I guess thats to reduce lead time and also to make them more focussed.

I hope to see more big explorables though. My suspicion is maguuma will open up a lot in the new year as we take the fight to the dragon.

It was very messy and hard to follow threads in so many subforums. Already players are flagging up threads with brackets for suggestions, feedback, trading etc. this makes collating so much easier for the devs.

This is an improvement in my opinion

It’s been my understanding that if they do a CDI for a game element it will eventually be introduced.

The devs themselves explained, that this understanding is not correct.

That is sort of true to cover themselves which i can understand. However, i would not expect the devs to waste time on something if they dis not at least have intent and were using the cdis to guide development.

On a related note: it’s extremely helpful if people reported narrative issues (continuity or otherwise) in an certain format. This post on Reddit regarding the Seeds of Truth lore inconsistency was incredibly useful in tracking down the bug.

http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/related/2o7nkg/sylvari_lore_inconsistency_spoilers_seeds_of_truth/

  • Quote the phrase from the current build
  • Quote the phrase from the core game (or GW1)
  • Explain the discrepancy

That’s it. We just need the facts, which we can then use to locate the content in our tools and investigate the issue. So feel free to let us know when something isn’t quite right in the game. Just please present it in a neutral, factual manner and it’s very likely we’ll be able to look into it. Burying the facts inside a longer post is the surest way for it to get lost.

Thanks much.

That’s a good idea.

Maybe a dedicated thread or a sticky where only posts in the format you describe can be added. I’m quite certain the lore experts on the forum would be happy to add to it in this way if it meant getting the consistent story lore we all want.

Forum Reorganization

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

There were simply far too many subforums for devs to be abke to collate feedback. This change makes it easier for them to find the feedback on a daily basis, which is the main criticism people seem to throw at them.

This is how it should have been from the start, the forums never needed to be this big.

There is no conspiracy, no attempts at sweeping things to one side, no deliberate attempts to destroy their own game. Its just streamlining for the good of the game.

And if you genuinely believe a subforum should exist, give reasons for why. They have already said in the main thread other subforums may be added if they are proved useful ….eg BLTC had so e solid arguments in favour of returning.

I think the feedback to take when you strip away all the rage, is how rhe schedule is planned for the year. The last episode didnt really end, so people rightfully feel a bit like the episode was only half played.

Maybe next year, as feedback, have a more natural way to leave the story before a break or ensure it ends. Or before wintersday starts. Because of also how close the team keeps things close to its chest, there is nothing apart from another episode to get excited about. Maybe give a teaser to generate exitement?

Thats my feedback.

Legendary Ring Idea

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

Legendary weapons are about the social primarily, with account bound and stat swapping an extra bonus (after all, one item stat change has no real gameplay effect)

I can’t see Legendary jewellery working individually since they cant’t offer anything that wouldnt be too busy aesthetically if you had a full set.

However, like the old pvp trinkets, you could have one all encompassing trinket which covers the stats for all the jewellery slots and gives some kind of sparkly effect or other enhancement. That might be more feasible and then fit what you propose.

Legendary Ring Idea

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

It’s a lot of effort jus to change stats though, especially as one jewellery items stats wont affect very much. I suspect it would be quicker just to buy the ascended version from the laurel vendor than accumulate the mats.

People would need a real incentive to go for this. A colour change is one idea, but I’m not sure it’s anywhere near enough to warrant the work involved.

Managed to find the post dates. Last two were around 6:00-6:05 am PST the first one after the mid season break was around 9:00 am PST.

I think if no trailer shows up in the next 45 minutes it’s safe to assume the finale and wintersday will not both go live on dec 16th

That’s quite a leap of assumption!!!

Legendary Ring Idea

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

Im a bit confused;

1- What purose do they add. What are they giving that an ascended doesn’t already, bearing in mind it can’t give better stats or else risk a stat grind, which is regarded as something players don’t want.

2 – Why does only 2 Gifts of Exploration per character matter? Those who want multiples, just get more on new toons since Legendaries and gifts are account bound

Simple question: No more dungeons coming?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

Part of the issue revolves around more and more MMO’s discovering that dungeons are not as widely played as perceived and that only a small portion of the playerbase commits to them regularly. A well balanced dungeon is a lot of effort to make if only a small amount of players (proprotionate to population) play it.

I understand that philosophy…I don’t necessarily agree with it though. Or at least putting them to one side entirely. Just because a low number proportionatly play something, doesn’t mean the target audience should be narrowed.

Now, part of this is speculation on my part. MMO’s like Lotro boomed on dungeons, then after realising the effort wasn;t worth it, decided to scrap any further dungeons. Wildtsar’s marketing of its instances also hasn’t paid off for the same reason. IS this why Anet has cooled off on dungeons? Probably. But, it does have a healthy number already in place and that may be in part what they are taking into account.

Will they make more dungeons? I’d be utterly surprised if we didn’t see more and strong indications from the CDI (despite being shut down unnecessarily and cutting off early some really good community discussions) suggest instanced raid content is being worked on behind the scenes.

About Wildstar. In my opinion it crashed because of the business model. GW2’s one is superior (B2P), but following the trend of not so sucessful MMO Launches, Wildstar is probably going B2P or even F2P and players like me who are dungeoneers at heart might just take the bait.

This is why Im asking for confirmation on this whole “no more dungeons”, because it can be a game breaker for a lot of people I know.

If a dev response affirming the idea of more dungeons or conceding that there will be no more is what you seek, you will almost certainly not find it. It’s is (very!) strict Anet policy not to discuss these things unless it is about to launch. And even if they aren’t doing more dungeons (which I speculatively suspect to be false long term), there’s no way they would confirm that – it would just open up a can of worms.

It is wait and see I’m afraid.

It was better than I expected, but too abrupt in ending. It just sort of ended and left me thinking it was only half finished. It also didn’t progress the story at all and I’m starting to worry we are drawing this out for the sake of it now.

There was equally a lot of great stuff though – the skritt area/boat, the tunnels, the JP, the dialogue was at least decent enough and had a good atmosphere.

If the ending was better and we had answers rather more questions, it would have felt a whole lot better for me.

I’m confused. What ring is this and what is it for? I can find Caithe’s Blossom, Palgue Signet and Wynne’ Locket, but no mention of the ring in this thread?

The Verata’s Seared ring is for the luminescent pants collection. Wynne’s Locket you earn after finishing all the story achievements for this episode are for the luminescent boots collection. It’s a little ridiculous that I can only get the Verata’s ring for 1000 bandit crests and 10g when more than likely I will have to purchase all three carapace boot chests for 3000 bandit crests and 3g total. (I do thank Anet for letting us collect all the carapace pants from completing the Living Story) So I’m hoping they will have the Verata’s Ring available with the Laurel vendor to give us the option for purchasing it with laurels.

Ahh thank you for clearing that up.

Also, I didn’t see any of the four in the laurel vendors list nr did I see the ring in the bandit crest vendors list. Do all achievements need finishing first?

Crafting = General Discussion/Guild Wars 2 Discussion. Unless you’d have a different suggestion?

General discussion makes sense. Two other options:

All forum posts to be bracketed eg [BTLC] thread title. This puts the onus on players and requires some heavy moderating to keep on top of and “teach” forum users

Or a Trade forum to cover BLTC/Crafting etc

Well…gw2 gets more updates than most games. Its just little and often here.

Bugs? This is an MMo. Ive seen sub mmos have bugs since launch that have been ignored. One of those is 13 years old!! There is no correlation between sub and bug foxes. Bugs happen, its a fact of life with these games. At least Anet hotfixes on a regular basis, rather than waiting on a set patch schedule to fix bugs, which at least two other Mmos do.

You can pay a sub. Buy gems from the store each month. Job done.

A sub would kill this game, since the free aspect is what attracted so many players.

Think that covers everything!

I would love new legendaries.
Up to this point, I wasn’t really interested in gathering the materials and gold for one in a serious way, except for the Kraitkin which I really really REALLY wanted.
The thing is, most of them seem goofy and out of place. Kudzu is fine, by no means a design I would die to have, the Hammer and the Flameseeker Prophecy are pretty cool (though I think that Flameseeker would be the perfect shield for Guard, but the constant virtues and aegis ruin the whole thing), the Horn and the Torch also meet my taste. But the others, dear lord. Moot looks like garbage, the pistols are just pathetic, the Dreamer is just… I don’t know I like the Idea but… the swords makes me wanna vomit, and I know that I’m probably alone on this, I really can’t stand the designs of neither of the great swords, don’t get me started on the harpoon-gun. the axe is like… what the hell. I am really very very hard to satisfy in this regard, but I’m an aesthetics player and I especially like it when stuff fits with the lore, and as a hardcore GW1 Player I would love some designs that actually had something to do with the first game.
Sure, there aren’t that many iconic weapons from GW1 that could be used, but at least the few that are there would be nice. Shiro’s Blades as daggers for example. Or the Scepter of Orr. Then there’s the Spear of Archemorus, and last but not least, the Vampiric Dragon Sword.

So sorry about the rant but I really hate the bubbly plastic and glitter super colourful legendaries. I don’t want to offend anyone who likes these designs, but I would prefer some more lore-friendly legendaries.

I am happy to support everything you say….except about The Moot
