Not very interested in the dragon itself. I am just wondering if they are setting the game up to visit other parts of the world.
I think so, since some cataclysmic event is being hyped up in early teaser. I would like to at least see mordy though. The artistic design of the creatures in gw2 is stunning and i cant wait to see him in all his glory.
I remember not being disappointed at seeing Zhaitan, despite seeming rather small For a creature who caused a land to raise on his awakening.
There was once a dev post that stated they cant add them retroactively. However, im in the camp wanting to see more. People put a lot of imagination into their look, it would be nice to see such variation with titles.
Tyria after all has a lot of combat healers for a world without trinity…
Do you mean Mawdrey? I thought that had finished by the end of the first half of season 2
The comments from Leah are great – but I’ve noticed you have had to post this three times now. Fab in terms of communication, but it might be worth a sticky in News and Announcements, which used to be where the known issues went. Could be worth resurrecting that subforum and putting things important like this in there.
Then when someone goes “well ANet never tells us anything about these things” the community and yourself can link to it and go “Aha, that’s not true..look right over here…”
This would really flesh out the Living World and give meaning to the Orders. Currently the Orders are almost valueless in the game and are indistinct from one another. This would go a long way to fixing that perception.
I turn every excess ascended mat into bricks until my collections tab becomes full. The rate of gain Vs use is radically unbalanced right now (although it is still better than a low gain – this at least gives players who play so little a chance at getting mats), but I have learned from experience to never throw things away.
You just never know…
Because a spoon is blunt, it will hurt more
3 days and 4 pages with no reply have Gaile forsaken us?
Never! I was in England for a few days. Lots and lots of meetings, and I’m sorry I wasn’t able to post too much while I was away!
The whole lack of direct communication now has me feeling like the direction of the game itself might be in limbo and that is worrisome. Isn’t it odd that all these new hires and ads for specific people (one would associate with expansion like content) have hit so far down the road, 2 years in? I think to be honest the silence is a way to keep us all distracted from the truth, LS and rehashed holiday content is all that is on the horizon for a very long time and if they do lay out the roadmap the fear is that many will simply walk away and stop supporting the game.
Think about it and tell me you don’t draw the same conclusions at this point. Why the silence, why the lack of a roadmap, why the lack of specific answers regarding things like dungeons, classes, traits, races?Ok, here’s some info on these specific comments:
- No, the game is not lacking direction. Nor is it lacking vision or goals, plans, ideas, concepts, or any of the other properties that guide our future. The quiet now is not an indicator of anything other than the fact that, at this time, the company is not talking about the future but is, instead, working on it.
- Game companies, like most major industries, experience a certain level of turnover, and hire to fill those spaces. They also hire for new or expanded roles. Nothing startling here whatsoever.
- The silence is decidedly not a distraction effort. As Mike O’Brien said, "We’ve set a clear policy in the past year: “We don’t talk speculatively about future development. We don’t want to string you along. Creating fun is an uncertain business: sometimes things work out and sometimes they don’t; sometimes we go back to the drawing board over and over before we get something right. If we make optimistic promises and then can’t deliver on them, everyone suffers. So when we attend a trade show or give an interview, we’re there to talk about what we’re getting ready to ship, not to speculate on what we might ship someday.”
- Living World and holidays are important, yes. They are not the only thing on which the team is working, quite clearly, when you see substantial updates coming out on a regular basis. (Case in point: feature packs, the coming PvP update, etc.)
- We are not “afraid” to lay out a roadmap. Quoting Mike again, “The intention of the CDI threads is to talk with you about the roadmap.” If you’re not participating, you’re missing out on a means of sharing your feedback and a method that we may use to give information, when the time is right.
- No, we’re not fearful of player reaction to our plans; we’re simply choosing a different path in communicating in the here and now.
- In general, with nearly anything, there are ebbs and flows in communication. If we’re in an ebb right now, you can count on there being a flow in the future. That’s just logical.
This is a really useful post, but it still comes back to the roadmap problem. I have absolutely no doubt you have a plan and a vision and are working on tons. But, you get visibility on that so everything no doubt looks rosy and exciting.
Now step back and try and forget what you know, and put yourself in our shoes. Now what do you see? What do players turning away from the game see is being added to the game? Where do prospective players see the game going?
I’m pretty certain there are almost no specifics beyond “there will be more Living World”. I thoroughly enjoy this game, but I have no clue whatsoever what is on the horizon and have nothing exciting to talk about to people I want to join this game.
As a side note, the CDI’s are part of the equation I know, but the raid one got shut down illogically. It was an excellent discussion thread, which suffered not because of the “bullying agendas” which I barely saw, but because 2 devs set cross purpose discussions and everything got confusing and messy. Blaming the community for finally getting the chance to talk about something long awaited was a tad unfair I thought.
I had it recently, turned out to be a corrupted gfx driver. anyway, a cleanup fixed it
Some info might be helpful. And also the right subforum – especially as there is a sticky on how to fix black screen issues here https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Black-Screen-Issues-1
The concept of sub-plots upon sub-plots is not the same concept as having mysteries for the sake of having mysteries, where you have questions left unanswered even after the answer loses relevance but more questions added.
I think this sums up perfectly the issue I have with Living Story.
I would love a solo option. Ive been trying to get Arah Story Mode done on my Engineer for months. But the game is full of Leet snobs that only want zerker warriors or what ever. Oh and lets not forget about the Path Selling Trend that keeps growing by the day.
Same offer to you as well. If you’re on an EU server send me a message.
If I’m not half asleep at my keyboard, ping me as well. I’ve done it, but I’m happy to help since I will only run casual/fun/non speed dungeon runs to help people out
I think people are being a tad unfair towards the devs, content after all still takes time to make. I think the problem is more that these last two patches needed merging together to make one content patch. The story didnt progress much yesterday and left yet another cliffhanger to chew over.
Id much rather the story just got on with it and releases were larger and less regular. Apart from some very dodgy narrative (caithes dodgy behaviour we spotted from the start and us telling everyone who would listen about the egg), this would have received much better feedback if part of a larger patch.
Yes, the egg wasnt really a secret was it. That was extremely poor storytelling there. I know my character would never have been that stupid
Glad you like it. Not my cup of tea personally. I don’t think the Labyrinth fits into the story well or the map and I don’t care for it. But then I guess I don’t have to like everything.
Same. I find it out of place for the setting. However, im not being forced through it so i can just ignore it now I’ve done a few plays through. In fact it benefits me indirectly by increasing player presence in silverwastes for the breach and events.
I agree except with the legendary boss bit. It felt like they were playing with a heroes henchies system for using npcs to aid in battles. The more npcs you found, the easier the fight vs the boss became.
Could be a precursor for henchies in instances or a step towards better ai and npc skills
Yes, but there is a thread right next to this one already on the subject https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/s2/Wait-that-s-it/first#post4569892. Feel free to add your thoughts to it so feedback is together.
Going back to season 1’s format would be a mistake considering the good work in season 2 in making it available for all permanently.
In saying that, there are aspects of S1 which were good – the Tower, Battle for LA, even the invasions (for a while). It’s just that new Zones sort of take the place of the big open world cooperative gameplay S1 tried to aim for.
It is called a cliffhanger I believe. It is quite often used in episodic media.
Not always to great effect
I enjoyed it, but yeah…wow way too short. Felt like half an episode and the end was rather abrupt.
Also getting to be rather tiresome having more mystery than explanation. This isn’t Lost – I wish the story would just get on with it rather than leaving cliffhangers every 2 weeks.
Well to be fair the PC is supposed to be an able-bodied individual. Not an oldie that might die of old age before getting to the front.
Old people usually don’t manage to do all that much in the heat of battle, especially not in battles against completely new and unknown foes.
Druss The Legend turns in his grave!
The nebo terrace event is a fairly new problem that has cropped up. It never fails to make me laugh when 50 odd vet centaurs turn up versus 2-3 players.
No i havent seen it succeed since it broke either.
Didn’t they start off doing this and then sort of…..stop?
It’s one of only a handful of games where when a large group of players are in an area, you can simply admire some of the combinations spawned from people’s imaginations playing around with the vast array of dyes and armour and weapon skins.
Your 3 questions are the sort of things people are asking for and have been for nearly the life of the game – that is the roadmap of which many speak of. Revealing where the story is not what the community has been asking for these past couple of years – that is a spoiler not a roadmap and you are correct in that assumption
People are invested in the game as you say and want to know more about what is being worked upon. Right now, that information is pretty much zero apart from guesses gleamed from the CDI’s etc.
This is the only MMO I have played that has no visible roadmap and I find it a little sad that information isn’t provided to us without our constant nagging.
example: Engineer backpack issue. 2 years of constant threads aside, we finally got an answer from someone at Anet (was it youy?) about the situation and how it is being discussed internally and the challenges involved. More of this on the issues that are raised weekly would;
- please the community
- clean up the forums
- reinforce the link between dev/community (which is improving thanks to recent efforts from you and your team)
p.s Harry Potter was an awful series. GW1/2 is not

I use Tornado still in Silverwastes. It’s an excellent skill on the Teragriffs, esp when they swamp a fort NPC
The gem store IS your optional subscription. If you put in £8 as a 2month sub along your lines of thinking, then then support is achieved. They will not ever add in any kind of sub to this game, since that is the core reason so many people began playing GW in the first place. ANd optional is pointless given the cash shop
The gem store is your place to support the company financially
I had no idea you couldnt complete them on an alt when you had finished the story on your main. That explains a lot!
What a baffling thing to implement
Guilds I would highly expect to be the centrepiece as discussed above. That would make sense for a feature pack.
Given the discussion round raids, I also expect to see build templates, UI improvements to be in there as well in preparation.
For what purpose is this tier? We have too many as it is, I’m not sure I follow why another would be needed?
Asura sometimes say it in greeting as you pass
George Takei is famous for saying “Helloooo”
George Takei played Sulu in STar TRek
Sulu became Captain in Star Trek 6
His first command was The USS Excelsior
That’s all I got
Who are these people, or what info do we have about them? It came up doing the living story for me, since I’m a mesmer myself. (not sure if that’s a requirement, but most likely)
It’s a safe guess that Countess Anise is possible member.
That dialogue pops up on any of my chars, regardless of race and prof it it helps
A ranger and a Squirrel? Hmm…
Since before last patch, I get (usually once a day) my screen go fully black except for the cursor. I still get sounds coming through, but otherwise unresponsive. It easily reset with Alt-F4, so Im not obstructed from playing, but it gets annoying if Im on a high populated map event.
I’ve checked graphic drivers and drivers in general. It is also a recent problem, but not specifically since last patch. I’m also EU, but I don’t think it is affecting anyone else for it to be a wider issue.
Any thoughts to the potential problem? (bear in mind I’m not a technical person when replying!)
edit: Just noticed sticky so will look at that in detail, but welcome any additional suggestion

They’ve been squirrelled away for a future update
Personally I think that’s nuts…but there ya go
Ohhhh, Randulf, you should be ashamed. You could have resisted, but you had to go fur it, right?
Rumbled. Time to high tail it outta here

You might want to be more specific about what you are suggesting. Reading your post I have zero idea what you are wanting and I imagine a dev reading this will prob be the same without some more specific proposals. being put forward.
If the dragons were to overwhelm tyria, then seeking help from cantha would seem relevant. We arent at that point yet, but that would feel like the natural way to introduce cantha in a few years time.
I agree that elona would be a more likely venture considering Kralks presence, but again, not imminently.
I hope to see both though. They would look stunning and be so much fun to explore
That seems more than a good reason to me. Cantha has a huge potential in storyline given the history and given that gw2 exosts because people want more of what they enjoyed from gw1, it makes perfect sense
But not right now. We have a storyline in progress and pulling people away with a new continent would not be sensible at this time.
For the op. There is a massive thread on the general discussion forum if you wish to search for it and lend your opinion.
Another thread said the symbol on the blindfold is the symbol of the Six Gods
One would usually think that by following up a previous post of mine saying “when Thalador puts histheo ry, I have a half joke” followed by said Thalador’s theory of Rytlock meeting the Six Gods, followed by the statement with a :P
One would think people would realize that he statement was a joke.
To be frank, I wasn’t sure if it was a joke or not…
If it was meant as a joke, it was very much a bad one and very much an in joke. I’m not a big lore follower, so lore in jokes are going to go over my head on a forum
I havent seen any drama between the two groups. The main issue I see is lack of numbers for the final bosses. That seems to be due to a number of factors, including population and players not learning the mechanics.
Both of which could be overcome by increasing the rewards for a 5/5 win. Currently the map is so profitable, that getting all 5 is a low priority.
The downscaling is in fact exceptional game design – it allwos for maps to be populated teh world over which is something most MMo’s fail with. What is the point of having a map which is redundant after a few levels? This way you can repeat old zones and be rewarded and new content can be added and built on. Every MMo should have this.
As for the NPE. Well, I’ve just started a new character. There are some differences granted, but nothing game breaking or changing. Certainly nothing at all to warrant the responses I saw about it
I presume Sligh refers to the Luminescent Shoulders, (not the Carapace Armour) which is the Collection reward for the achievements in the main story arc. That requires repeating the story
Another thread said the symbol on the blindfold is the symbol of the Six Gods
I am loving it – this is what Orr should have felt like, ie a battle zone.
How it will pan out long term as populations move on, or if we defeat Mordy is a long term concern, but for now I am thoroughly enjoying Silverwastes
There is ascended gear, but gear progression is something the game is meant to steer clear of and that is deliberate and hopefully the way it will always be with the game.
You can currently start from the beginning of Season 2 of the Living Story (at a cost of 200 gems per chapter – although each chapter will be free if you log in for it’s first 2 weeks).
Season 1 is lost to you I’m afraid. By it’s nature it is not something that can be added retroactively without major reworking, which is not on the immediate cards, but it is hoped for the future.
Welcome back, hope you enjoy your second time around!
edit: I was beaten to it by the above posters!
Seeing as the Deep ocean dragon will probably be the last one standing, one’s gotta wonder about an age defined by water and… tentacles…

Even if mounts were something to implement (and opinion is so vehemently divided that it prob will never happen), the chaos from lag would be too much. People already suffer on full maps and even more so when pets are summoned. Mini pets even have to be hidden to keep performance. Adding mounts into the mix would just not be feasible from this perspective alone.
Whilst I commend the way you have put some thought process behind your idea, it is extremely unlikely mounts will ever happen in the game. I understand your feeling towards waypoints, but they work very well for the game.
The fallen seraph were a bit annoying, but the mordrem are just right. Yes they have large hp pools, but they are meant to feel hard in the way that the risen do not. With the new patch especially, it feels like my character is in a dangerous battle against dragin minions, something that isn’t there with say the Branded or Icebrood.
