Rares and the forge

Randulf.7614

Safest bet is to craft your own rares of the specific weapon type you’re aiming for. That way you’ll narrow down the loot options the forge can reward per recipe. If you buy the weapons from the TP it can get costly, so making them should be cheaper, especially if you farm all your own materials.

It’s more that I get quite a lot of rares from teq/jormag runs and to be honest I don’t really need anymore ectos. I know it is more economically more sound to sell the ectos/mats, but I thought I’d give the MF a whirl for fun if there was a chance armour contributed towards getting a pre.

Thanks to everyone for their input, was very useful

a couple of quick questions,

If you throw yellows in to aim for a precursor, do the rares need to be all weapons or can you use armour? Also, if you do use weapons, do they have yo be the same weapon type?

Thanks!

Stop renaming people no reason

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Randulf.7614

The naming policy is clear when the terms and conditions were signed. If anyone doesn’t agree, then they are simply free not to sign the agreement.

Censorship of names takes into account sensitivities across a range of cultures/countries the game is sold in. Religious names are absolutely a no no according to the naming policy.

Randulf.7614

The problem is no longer the level or amount of communication now Gaile. You are correct in saying that improvements have been made and any right minded individual can see that from you and your team.

It just boils down to the roadmap again. Where are we going? We simply have no real inkling and it really is quite a unique situation for an MMO to be in. I read Mike’s post – it didn’t really address this particular problem, even if visible and definite improvements have been made elsewhere.

Suggestions have been made ofc;

- email forthcoming events and updates
- regular GD blogs
- return of the preview trailers/info (no preview of next season 2 or Halloween yet, despite eager clamourings)
- Something more substantial than a vague zone portal in the homepage for a teaser

I’m not saying these are the answers, but they seem valid suggestions from across this thread. Many just want something to get excited about going forward about this great game. It’s not really a big demand from the community in my view

CDI- Guilds- Guild Halls

Randulf.7614

Ok cool let’s start it of then Donari:

Note these are my personal top three priorities:

1: The ability for guild members to be able to show of their prowess and achievements through Guild Halls and their own avatar customization.
2: The ability for players to work together in a fun way to build something different and exciting.
3: The ability for smaller guilds to enjoy guild halls.

Chris

And we want to do things! GvG, other new game modes as tower deffense, survive the vawes of monsters etc…

I pretty much sit on the fence regarding the need for GHs, but if I was pushed for priorities, I’d say I’d gel with what Chris listed. In any other game, I think the extra game modes would be interesting, but outside of dungeons, SAB and the mini games, I prefer the whole “keep it in the open world” system the game has. It’s not unique, but GW2 does a very good job of getting it right as far as I’m concerned.

(GVG an obvious exception ofc. I don’t pvp or care about GVG, but this would work best using a similar system to GW1.)

Bugged maps - Collections and Anet

Randulf.7614

I’m confused. What is the bug you are reporting here?

Buried under the main rant is the complaint that many DE’s tied to collections are bugged. Such as Foulbear which is still intermittent. A legitimate complaint there.

I don’t share the complaint about megaservers (which are an excellent addition to the game imo) or the collections as a concept (something that was suggested on these forums a long time ago).

anet's lack of transparency

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

Does Anet email out news to its playerbase? I get plenty of emails about things going on in different mmo’s – from weekend events, to in store offers, to roadmaps ahead. Some of them work on me and entice me back. I have never been emailed by Anet (yes Ive checked my spam folder)

Now I’m not a player needing “enticing back”, but looking at what has been happening in GW2 recently and upcoming, how many casually minded players aren’t aware of;

- the recent pvp tourament and chance to win a precursor from watching the twitch stream
- Halloween and the start date
- WHen S2 re-starts.

Sure it’s on the homepage, but is it being more widely advertised? I know it’s a bit away from the transaprency being asked for, but it might be useful to those who wouldn’t think to visit the main site.

Randulf.7614

in 2013 they said precursor crafting is one of their major plan for the game but nothing happened not even word about it, whether they canceled it or still working on it, that is the kind of confusion and lack of communication i hate, the major plans for the game that change the game play must be at least discussed with the community /players for feed back and all.
other games have pts or play test server before they go live with major updates, while this game developers are silent about it for no reason in my opinion just making players confused about the future of the game.

Actually, you can read what the Devs said about it on the previous page in this very thread. /smh

As stated before, even though the statement has been quoted in countless threads, players seem to ignore what the Devs announce. Thus, they may be reluctant to announce anything , as what good does it do? I’m neither for or against the practice, but there surely is evidence for their stated reasoning.

what they said in this thread and others was they announce it once it is ready to go live , what i said is they must be crystal clear as what their plans for major updates are like pre crafting. like other games announcing major feature and content, for example rift announced new souls months before or swtor announced housing mini expansion month before or wow announced expansion months before, this thread is about transparency, read it again if you did not get what is it all about.

What you said is that there was no word from the devs. The guys above pointed out that there was word and it was pretty conclusive – they are working out how it will fit in the new rewards scheme. That’s a reasonable update on the situation.

Crystal clarity isn’t actually what a lot of people are asking for in this thread. There is an understanding why that cannot be the case and in fact few publishers can ever be that clear. What is being asked for is just something to grab onto, even if it is next year.

Randulf.7614

Some of you pointed to the Season 2 image and said it wasn’t enough to excite you about the season. Some said we should use “teasers.” But isn’t that image precisely that? A teaser?

Ok, let’s talk about this on a personal level. Share your thoughts or desires, not what you gauge to be the thoughts or wishes of the whole community.

I’ll start:

I love books. But I never read the slipcover or the back of the book. Why? Because usually it says too bloomin’ much! I don’t want to read something like, “Ingrid takes a vacation in Crete and meets a mysterious stranger who isn’t all he seems to be, which she discovers when checking the lining of his suitcase and finding four passports in four different names all containing (insert imagined gasp here) her new lover’s photograph! What will Ingrid do? What will she do?”

Well, I’d have to read 100 pages to catch up with the whole “phony passport” thing, but during those 100 pages, I’m thinking, “So when is she finding out that Pierre is a scoundrel?” And everything is colored by what I know, and the whole story-telling experience is diminished.

Oh, and I don’t even want to go into the whole “I saw a trailer at a movie, and every good joke and/or pivotal scene in the movie was telegraphed in the trailer.” That’s not good teaser-ing — that’s giving away the store!

A teaser has to be carefully devised — for a book, a movie, a game. I find the portal and the date to be enticing. Others here do as well. It’s ok — your mileage may vary. But I don’t think we (as devs) want to go the way of TMI for upcoming content because that takes away the joy of discovery and the sense of wonder that everyone will experience as they play the new episode.

Again, just a personal opinion, but as you can see, something I have thought about quite a bit!

Taking your book analogy, I ran bookstores for the better part of 15 years. The behaviour you describe simply isn’t common nature amongst the general populace. Blurbs are extremely important passive sales techniques (and actually most rarely spoil anything or even relate to what actually the story tends to be about anyway..). Of course TMI is a careful balance, but I would be very surprised if what was put up on the front page could ever be described as TMI. Even saying exactly where we would be going would still be just about undercutting it, whilst still generating enough info to garner excitement amongst the players and also amongst the wider community of players who are on hiatus right now.

For example; in TSW, I know FC are bringing two more areas of Tokyo to the game. That’s common knowledge to the playerbase. They know what the 2 zones are. We don’t know anything about playable content (probably a massive grindfest but hey ho), but we know the direction. Same with Lotro – in Spring they stated a roadmap of where players would be headed over the next year. Exact details left to the imagination, but we had a map.

In GW2…I haven’t got a clue. I could make an educated guess…but that is it. Personally, I’m with you, I don’t want spoilers. But, I want something to get excited about. I’m a loyal player who is likely to stick with the game for life, but I have nothing to look forward to. Which is a little saddening to me really.

You have an amazing game, with an amazing future. Shout about it!!

Did you enjoy the latest WvW season?

in WvW

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

I jumped in to do 5 events then jumped out. I can’t say it encouraged me to do wvw.

I think they went too far this time – previous seasons have run WVW alongside other content making the achievements too time intensive. This time they removed extra content and dumbed down the achievements. I see what they were experimenting with, but it went too far imo. It is however, a difficult balance to get right for them.

I certainly am not complaining about the rewards though

Jormag Discussion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

I’m uncertain why it matters though. Jormag never fails, so I’m not sure how the solution suggested would benefit the event. In fact the ranged dps on the right hand side usually helps reduce the number of burn phases as it zaps enough of his health to be worth it.

Right now, there are enough people to do golem protections/ ranged dps and ice shards.

However, I’m not against a reworking of Jormag to make it more challenging or at least more dynamic. ALthough I wouldn’t be surprised if we get another Claw if we go north one day and the mechanics are improved.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Randulf.7614

GW1 was notorious at the time for having the same complaint – especially in fact for elementalists. I had so many issues finding decent looks for my toons in GW1. I have only ever been spoilt for choice in GW2

GW2 has gone a long way at addressing thie issues of the predecessor and the variety is astonishing for an MMO in my opinion. The creativity I have seen in open world and in threads is greater than most other MMo’s I’ve played.

Having said that, there are still issues;

1 – Acquisition. More need to be in game to balance out the gem store. I have no issue with gem store releases, but the balance is skewed too far

2 – Whilst sheer volume and combo and dyes are available, not every taste is catered for. That’s a nigh on impossible job to do granted, but medium armour needs some love and I take the asymmetry point in the OP’s statement as well.

There has to be an acceptance that not all achievements are going to be doable or at least doable without significant time investment. I would love to get many of them, but Im not prepared to put time into grinding gold for black lion weapons. That’s fine – those achievements aren’t aimed at me in which case – there needs to be ones catering for all types of players, including those who like grind (yes there are plenty of players who do)

There is nothing which you “need” to grind for here and achievements shouldn’t just be handed on a plate anyway (wvw 2014 went too far imo, but they said that was just a trial so I expect that to change next time).

There are problems with many of the achievements, esp collectables, but grind I wouldn’t say is necs a big one

The key thing for me and ive picked out a few repeats of this in proposals across some posts is the relevance to small guilds. Guild missions were a kick in the teeth to small guilds and yet they were such an excellent idea. Not unique…but perhaps the best ive seen at linking guilds to thriving open world. Small guilds like mine felt left out due to manpowet needed.

Guild halls must be obtainable for all guilds and in a way that is fair to all. Lotro did it well with timescales being linked to upgrades. That way, guilds could develop equally.
