If a name isn’t chosen yet, they should run a competition, with the winning name appearing in game via some lore connection. Like a lost scroll/tome or something, or a largos NPC.
Again, the halloween issue is debatable. On the one hand, every MMO I play has rehashed content, some going back years unchanged. Also, time spent on new halloween content is less time spent on;
a) new season 2 content and making it better
b) any “potential” expansion
Imagine the uproar from the community if the above were delayed or the quality dumbed down just because new halloween content was added for 2 weeks.
Having said that, I’d still be eager to see a furthering of the Blood/Madness tory next year….Just sayin’
The content thus far in s2 has been underwhelming. I’m still waiting for this quality thing all the fanbois and white knights keep bringing up.
The content is quality from the perspective of many. The actuality is that you personally do not enjoy it. Which of course is fine – there is no possible way the content can please everyone.
I thoroughly enjoy it personally. If that makes me a fanboi or white knight, well that isnt really an insult, so i am happy enough with that label
This sounds like what GW1 had with hard mode. GW2 isnt set up for this and will cause the following issues,
Segregation of the community..all making their own demands
Extra work on devs taking away time for new content
As new zones and continents add, the population will be wafer thin per zone
Arguments about who is casual and who isnt as the lines between the two are blurry
Id prefer to see equal content for both groups across the game and the community work together to help less skilled players through harder content, in a mature and collaborative way.. As an MMO should be imo.
The 2 week content was changed on that schedule for season 2 based on feedback by the community, who overwhelmingly fed back that content should be released when ready rather than adhering to a strict schedule.
Despite many communication faults, they did say there would be longer breaks, especially at mid season, to allow for wvw, feature packs and halloween.
They did not “lie” on this point
As to the expansion argument…i remain on the fence about this issue until season 2 has run its course.
Time to dig out my Lovecraft and William Hope Hodgson compendiums. Must be a clue in there….
There are several threads on this already, but it is likely just a lore connection since the main emphasis is on Mordremoth right now. Either the statue exists in the location we saw and it is part of creating atmosphere or there are links to the realm of torment perhaps.
I certainly wouldn’t expect to see him returning when he has been so utterly destroyed and the story get so busy as a result.
Is it interesting though? Definitely
Also, the thread title makes it sound like raids only as part of a Guild. I presume the discussion is about raids in general as a concept?
One of the problems (which I currently have no solution for but am interested to hear solutions to), involve ‘teaching’ current mechanics to a wider player base before the raids are introduced.
For example; In the Labyrinth, you have 3 different bosses. They can be overcome with sheer numbers, but raids are generally done with a finite number of players. In smaller groups it is essential the players have a greater understanding of things such as;
- vigour control
- use of non damaging conditions such as blinds and cripples
- use of stability
and how players can rotate them into their builds. Without “zerg countering” mechanics, raids will become stale, so how does the game do a greater job in teaching the players in preparation for raids? Improving base content like core world bosses maybe?
The other problem is who are raids being aimed at? Right now, anything with hard mechanics are avoided by open world groups or played to a lesser degree;
- Grenth
- Skeletal Lich
- Dust Devil
- Triple Headed Worm
It could simply be that rewards are not appropriate for the difficulty in the game right now. Certainly Wurm is well below par. Legendary Giant isn’t worth the effort vs chaining easier, quicker bosses.
Anyway, thats’ some random headache induced musings I came up with!
I think what would be better Gaile is to say that said items in the store will be available post fix or not. That would be a better guideline for people, since that is a key point for this thread
There is no framework for soon that you can lay down in black or white – it is getting to the reason why people want something that will help you answer this.
Bronze,
Enamelled Blaze
Flame
Redemption
Midnight Teal
I dont think an alternative method is the answer. I think the ap requirements are set too high personally and they need to be given out at lower ap levels. At that high a level, I’d rather see full sets or exclusive weapon skins, rather than the final parts to an armour set.
I was curious about one of the folks in the video at about 2:10 – was he a dwarf? If so, this should get very interesting.
That is Ogden Stonehealer from GW1. He does appear in GW2 in certain storylines. He is a dwarf who was transformed like the others, but seems to have retained his personality
I think it’s possible the statue is largely there to represent something or add lore to a location we are going. There may be some link to him and the main story, but I would doubt any major plot line involving him.
Wont be complaining if I’m proved wrong mind you
The image of what appears to be his statue was in last week’s teaser

I thought it might have been Hall of Monuments at first, but doesn’t make so much sense. The new maguuma zone looks suitably chaotic, but is the video hinting at a new shiverpeaks zone or one already in game?

Looks exciting! Some great little teasers at the end there

Some interesting stuff at the end there! Think I even spot an old friend!
Looks like the fractal backpiece giving some of that glow?
This was answered by a dev on the forums in the spring – it is on the back burner due to changes around the reward system. There would be no further news until they had something workable and ready.
The recent Dry Top scavenger hunt plus some of the collectible scavenger hunts is likely them experimenting with the best way to roll something like this out. The fact that no reply has given, despite being mentioned in just about every main thread on these forums is likely that there is no information to give right now.
That’s my take on the situation.
The game needs more titles in my opinion, so i support this
Great work!!!!!
I got this just before a Teq run, shortly after I entered the zone at his wp
It was fully playable…until I tabbed out and then it locked
A 1:1 trade for another limited time finisher would be an idea
I have never rubberbanded in GW2. Have you submitted a support ticket or posted in the tech subforum?
If it was a core issue, everyone would be suffering, if it is an isolated issue, then they will need details to help solve it
I remember when we voted for a new fractal between the Thaumanova Reactor or an Abbadon fractal we were told that both would eventually be in the game. Maybe this is a hint that the Abbadon fractal will be coming soon, possibly where Rytlock ended up.
I too have pondered how the Abaddon fractal would have fit into the story back then. Could be interesting for sure.
I’m not sure I get the crystal desert/elona speculation, since the current season revolves around Mordremoth. I suppose it could link to wherever Rytlock went, but they have said they don’t have the resources to do multiple story arcs, so if it is Abaddon, it will likely involve Maguuma or existing zones somehow.
I think this thread is pretty good evidence that the value of skins is incredibly subjective. Sometimes a cool skin is going to be basic, gritty, realistic or plain. Other times a god’s hand come from the sky to hand you a universe tearing, light sparkling, night glowing mace that may not compel awe as much as it will force other around you to dance until the stubs of their bones beat a catchy cadence for your amusement.
Disco is life!
No, you get a bunch of the halloween item you dont put in, so essentially it’s a way of making the item you want out of the loot you didn’t (eg if you need a lot nougat, but don’t need skulls)
Trick or treat bags do work – don’t get too excited for the result though!
I
Guild Wars 2 on the other hand does really poor job at selling useful things:And yet Guild Wars 2 does make enough money in order for ArenaNet to avoid a rather massive layoff involving all other studios owned by NCSoft.
Not sure this is a fun commend or not.
At least you can’t be serious.
The only reason why A-Net is still alive is that they let almost everyone go and
outsource as much as they can.
That also explains why GW2 as a product looks so disconnected from the customers
or their former glory.Let me quote from employees NOT MADE UP BY ME
QUOTE:
- Severe reliance on contract/outsourced positions completely tanks morale across virtually every department.
- Resources are spread too thin. Nothing seems like a real priority
- Most of the upper management seems disconnected from their employees and the customers
- Compensation: ArenaNet has always paid below the industry standard for most, if not all, of its positions.
- Salaries have not only lagged behind, but opportunities to advance have also been greatly reduced.
END QUOTE
Just to add to that, the positive outlook by the employees is around 54% right nowOn top we have the income report that clearly shows that they had a little peak in 2013 but in general lose about 3 million to the former quarter.
Like we all read GW2 is not under the top revenue games any longer. How do you read out of these informations that A-Net makes enough to keep the employees and deliver a descent product is far beyond me and totally delusional.
Fact is that they did bet on odd horses and lost.
LS was more than a foreseeable failure and the fact that they stick to it instead deliver expansions has more to do with the financial situation.
They simply can’t switch anymore even if they wanted.I know most people “dream” of a hidden secret expansion project that will pop out of nowhere.
But sadly all of the relevant numbers speak against that.
A-Net isn’t announcing something epic because there is nothing to announce.Simple plain and very sad
Where are you quoting from?
Thoroughly enjoying Halloween this year. I understand the feedback about more story or wanting 2012 instances back, but as mindless relief after work – this is perfect for me atm
It reminds me of the investigation quests in Secret World, which are perhaps some of the best designed quests in any game in both concept and implementation (and immensely satisfying to finish when you don’t use a guide or hints)
Whilst the clues here were above my head, this was excellent to watch unfold between John and the community. If something like this could ever translate into the game, it would be a winner, but for now – great job John. You are better some professional writers I have come across in my career…
p.s. I’m not a huge fan of the skin, but that’s really not the point anyway

Judging by the emphasis on new players this, no changes to festivals has a certain logic – they are giving the new players they are trying to attract the same content to experience.
Whether this is a good idea is ofc up for continued debate. I’m certainly having fun, blowing off a tiring week hunting candy.
Bring back dyeable outfits!
Bring back? They are dyeable already….
The idea is sound and was an excellent idea in GW1 and other games that copied it. I’m undecided on whether GW2 is fully set up to benefit such weekends though
I’d prefer things like below for a weekend incentive;
- extra magic find
- extra pvp xp gain
- extra wvw gain
- extra karma per event
Here’s an update for you:
It’s clear that quite a lot of you would like to have greater flexibility in using the Currency Exchange. Our intention when we designed the new interface was to streamline large volume purchases, which make up the majority of transactions.
In light of your feedback, we will update the Currency Exchange so that you can decide how you want to use it. We will keep the new streamlined system and also offer a new “Custom” button on the panel that you can use to exchange any increment of gems or gold.
We anticipate rolling this out soon. Stay tuned!

Sorry for the delay in posting this, but out of respect to our international community, we wanted to be able to post in several forums at once.
Thanks for the reply Gaile, this should solve the problem now.
I see why you designed it now, but hopefully this has been an informative situation on balancing metrics against forseeing what players want in the game.
Thanks again for the update!
Likely impossible technically but also feasibly. Restricting people based on their playtime bias is unfair and is as unjust as those complaining for the sake of it. People take holidays, natural breaks, work commitments etc. there is no possible way of enforcing this accurately.
And it wont improve the forums in any shape or form. That requires deeper work, whether improved moderation, better forum structure, in game improvements…tick as applicable.
Ignore or report the problematic posts. The internet isnt worth arguing with day in and day out
I thought this was an excellent move. Halloween and festivals are for fun and exclusivity shouldn’t go hand in hand. I understand something like Liadri or maybe even a hard jumping puzzle and you having something to show off, but when its just a case of farming X number of materials or throwing gold at the TP…then no, thats not the same thing.
This is a massively improved and fairer system over last year’s debacle imo
This might interest you for your third point https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/bltc/List-Of-Things-We-Want-In-Gemstore/first
What was your honest consideration of people who had odd numbers of gems, like 50, or 199, or any other amount that can’t properly be traded or used to purchase anything? What specific factors made you decide that letting this spare change cash-shop currency rot, unusable, was the right decision?
Did you consider that new players would be confused by cash shop items that cost 700, 1000 gems, when there is no option to purchase or trade for those specific amounts?
That is a pretty good point actually and something i find infuriating in other mmo shops. The increments never match the purchase prices. GW2 set itself apart from this by its unique and excellent system before the change
You can find the support tab at the top of this page above the logo
Pop something into the support subforum explaining your predicament and they will advise. There is no manual way to change email, only support can do this.
A support ticket is the only way to change email
Hey there,
Here are a few tidbits from the team:
- A lot of newer players had trouble with the interface. That doesn’t apply to you, you’re veterans who have been around the conversion block a time or two. But newer players will benefit from the updated system.
- The goal was to make the Gem Store more like other shopping experiences, and if you think about it, there is more of that feel to it now.
- You may be surprised to know this (I know I was) but very few people bought gems at smaller denominations than the first one offered in the new system. That’s not to say they never did, nor that there wouldn’t be the desire to do so. But overall, the current options were selected based on player purchases in the past.
- The team is going to listen to your feedback and, if and when it’s practical and desirable, they can look towards adjusting the new system to better meet your needs.
So please keep your thoughts coming on the new system. Feel free to make suggestions but please, keeping them constructive would be very much appreciated.
I understand the reasoning but the result is below,
.1- new players get an easy system, vets get a system they have enjoyed taken away. We were new players once and were fine and have stayed the course.
2 – the UI is clearer defintely and looks good. Having increments was unnecs though, a separate button for the rest of us to choose our amount in a slider as before would have given you the best of both worlds. The very minimum should be small increments, but realistically none should exist. There will always be confusion and there is a limit to how far you can dumb a system down.
3 – the uniqueness of such a great and lauded system has been heavily watered down.
4- a kitten storm on the forum. Many posts are unnacceptable, but the tone suggests an overwhelming feeling towards the changes. This shouldnt be wholeheartedly ignored as feedback, since it shows an unwelcome change.
It was ridiculous last year – there was never any need for such a high cost for a fun item and there was a lot of feedback about it which they have listened to for this year. This is a very welcome change to the rewards systemr, especially as it’s a short festival and meant to be a bit of fun.
It is very nice!
The UI is simpler and cleaner I agree, but realistically speaking the old system was elegant and it worked. Not being able to choose your gems amount just seems baffling 2 years into the game’s life.
